Well the pay channels are encoded and I cannot view them. However the free ones play fine :)

I suppose it is possible to install needed decoders to view the pay channels.

    Greetings,

I have a XPS 16 with the 5300 card, and am accessing the internet through a Verizon FIOS connection (using the router supplied by Verizon). I have the laptop setup to connect automatically when I boot, but it takes longer than I expect it should to achieve an internet connection. I haven't actually timed it, but it seems like it takes about 5 minutes after the system fully boots (ie, sidebar loaded, dell dock appears, etc.). For example, after the sytem boots, if I try to open Firefox right away I get an error message. Hovering over the system tray, I see a message that says something like "connected, local access only". Then I have to wait several minutes before it works. Sometimes I can get there a little quicker if I manually disconnect and reconnect. This is my first laptop so I don't really know what to expect, but it just seems longer than it should. Is this normal? How long should it take before I have access?

    Thanks you.

Hey guys, does any of you know if a VGA to S-VIDEO converter should work? I bought a converter cable but it does not work on my TV... Could it be the cable or the GPU doesnt support a TV output this way?
    Tks in advance.

i dont think there is any way to go from VGA to S-Video without a converter box of some sort. im pretty sure that VGA output and S-Video are completely different protocols.

i just bought my dell studio xps 16and it came with a hauppauge WinTv-Nova-T model 18109.
there is this wire with a small circular face that goes into the laptop and converts it into a normal tv aerial socket and then there is a Tv aerial lead that plugs into the converter with has a antenna so i can receive tv channels.

Is there anywhere i can buy the converter from just in case i lose it?
Its the one that has a small circular small that plugs into the laptop and changes it into a tv aerial socket.

    images of the lead:

By it's native resolution, RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) versus WLED LCD (1600x900). Should be obvious.

I am looking for a 9-cell battery for quite a long time now and it seems only the DELL USA e-shop (they don't ship outside of USA) sells this battery. Dell in EU does not offer any batteries for a Dell Studio XPS 16 (not even the standard 6-cell one). I searched Google many times and I was able to find only one site selling some non-dell batteries for this laptop.

I am also looking for them on eBay, but no luck so far. There was one used for sale last week, but before I could verify if it is the right one, someone bought it.

I happened to have a VGA-to-Composite/S-Video cable in my drawer-of-many-cables, and gave it a shot on my SXPS 1640.

You are correct, that neither output works from the VGA output on the 1640.

There is a seller on ebay selling new, original Dell 9-cell batteries. They had 3 of them, I picked up two. I was going to get from Dell.com, but they raised the price from $79.99 to $100.00. (that is an odd price, because it seems everything ends in .99).

The ebay Seller was asking $89.99 each, free shipping. (use bing.com cashback and save an extra $7).

I received my Dell XPS 1640 a little over a week ago. I posted elsewhere on this forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=402483) about some RGBLED screen issues I've been having. But there's one other screen issue that is even more troubling to me:

None of the .icc profiles that I download, either for the SXPS 1640 or any of Dell's other RGBLED laptops, work for my screen. Even Adobe RGB doesn't work well with my screen. Reds get washed out to green (as though Adobe RGB is too high of gamut for the screen), but without the .icc profile, the reds are oversaturated, as anticipated. It's as though the screen is somewhere between Adobe RGB and sRGB.

Using the profiles that KrionX posted here: ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=345445&page=243&highlight=cpugenie), my screen completely washes out to a green color that is neither life-like or natural (I know photography and am using color-manage applications).

Can anyone else confirm this behavior? Has Dell made a screen switch? Are we all purchasing inferior screens with reduced gamut now? Or did I get a lemon?

I dunno... My 1640 had an excellent RGB screen but the reds were oversaturated to begin with.

I tweaked the desktop color settings though and it helped a little,

    Thanks, sleey0.

On a wide gamut monitor that covers 100% NTSC or AdobeRGB, all colors will be oversaturated using non-color aware programs, including reds. Simply altering desktop color setting does not take advantage of the wider gamut and can lead to color errors ("delta-E"). I am looking to see whether any new RGBLED buyers are experiencing difficulties in their color-aware applications.

A way to find out is for someone with a RGBLED appropriate colorimeter like the Spyder 3 to check their gamut against the gamut of AdobeRGB in a program like PerfX Gamut Viewer.

The only problem I'm having with the RGBLED screen is that the left half appears to be a tad brighter than the right no matter what settings in the ATI CCC I adjust or what brightness I use.

I don't know if this was discussed before, but now I see 3 options for the system color: Black High Gloss Finish
    Black with Leather
    Red with Leather
Is the first one just the ordinary sxps without Leather?? Or they resolved the Glossy = Fingerprint magnet?
