Are you serious? Most people don't even know what LED backlit screens are. Then make it $300 more and lower resolution and it's a no brainer to ignore it. Obviously Dell will offer them again in the future, when they are cheaper and more available.

This thread is fine, the item isn't even annonced yet. No release date, no prices, no offical word from Dell...
-
there are no plans by Dell to phase out the M1330; this is no more than babble started by some of the unhappy here. You cannot compare the M1530 to the m1330 and, in fact, with the success of the m1330 it is deemed a huge step up for Dell. They will not be getting rid of it anytime soon.
Many would still claim it to be the industry leading system for its total package, pricing and weight. -
-
Extremely unlikely.
Dell has hit a winning formula with the M1330 which they are trying to take some benefits from by scaling it up to the M1530... as far as playing around with the original design goes.. Dell is unlikely to touch that design for a while... they got lucky and will not want to risk the formula that is working...
It's two different notebooks anyway.. one is an ultraportable. .the other a multimedia notebook with some good features like HDMI...
If they had a "lighter" latitude with HDMI and a thin and bright LED screen... it wouldn't be too far away from it.. I would probably jump on that if that was the case considering the latitude's superior build quality, warranty and battery life. -
PS: M1330 also was planned to have Blu-Ray option but was dropped later. -

sinstoic
You need to ease up a little bitEveryone knows that your "official" 1530 thread is there.
Also, you just joined in October and you have 257 posts - don't you work or something? (I am saying all this in jest so please don't take offense) -
-
-
Hmm! What's the latest here? I mean inside information not yet published elsewhere!
-
sinstoic.. i think you contribute a lot to this community, keep up the good work.
i liked the "its an error" part hehe.

Michael Dell when launching their new ad campaign mentioned the tablet and the XPS one but no mention of another 15 inch XPS model.. could this be a sign? -
-
-
I'll post it here as well...

Thanks Velman, good find! Rep power for ya!!
For anyone else that is going crazy trying to see the detail as these shots whiz by, here are the individual ones broken out:
Looking good to me. I'm glad the media controls aren't on the front. Port placement is tolerable for us righthanded mouse users. Conservative but elegant. -
Thanks for the stills. -
-
Will the graphics card be the 8600GDDR2 or GDDR3? And will it be drastically better than the 1520?
-
Velman
Just curious - where did you get those pics from? -
-
the 1530 is a beast
-
-
The difference would be that the XPSM1530 is rumored to be much thinner and lighter than the 1520.

According to a source, it's release is very very soon, sooner than you think of.
Trust the source but usually before release the thing gets leaked with all information including a date of release and price range. Why has that not happened yet? -
-
^
Reallie? I mean the dates. I don't have much details except a date which I can't tell right now. Hope it is released on the said date. It is very near though. -
Chances are that the rumours are right on the video card though.. they seem to be going the M1330 route on this.. ie. not meant for gaming... is said date this week?? :S
-
Similarly, if the rumors are true about the XPSM1530 only being 4 pounds, then it makes sense that it isn't going to have a full 8600M GT. -
Does Dell let you cancel an order that is in production? -
I was able to cancel my XPS M1730 with no probelm and it was in the production stage.
-
Here is a data sheet for XPS M1530: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/environ/inspiron_xps_m1530.pdf
It claims m1530 weights 2,8kg witch sounds realistic to me.
[EDIT]'realistic' replaced 'ok' -
6.1 pounds sounds OK?
That's pretty hefty for a "light" 15", certainly compared to MBP and the 4 pound rumor.
-
Three times as much energy consumption on idle as the M1330 isn't too encouraging.. :S

wish i felt this good about my M1330--i've replaced it 3x's.
-
The dimensions and weight are virtually the same as a Sony FZ, I was hoping for MBP-esque dimensions and weight, possibly a bit lighter at 5lbs after hearing the 4lb + battery rumours.
Perhaps I'll just go for an M1330 if this spec is correct. -
With a 85 whr (9 cell on the m1330) battery the energy ratings for the M1530 translate into 2.9 hrs on idle and 1.2 hours at maximum power usage... hmmmm
this compares to 8.0 hrs idle and 1.75 hrs maximum for the m1330 ..... -
-
-
I think the only reasonable explanation to the power usage figures would be a graphics card that's a lot more powerful than the 8400 GS... fingers crossed...
-
-
Keep in mind that the 6/9 cell that the 1530 will use probably has a different whr than the 1330's cells because of density (larger system has mre space for larger cells thereby increasing mah)....
-
Considering the Vostro 9 cell and the Inspiron 9 cell are also 85 whr chances are that they will be very similar.. batteries of higher than 9 cell capacity are rare.. Dell uses a 12 cell with 95 whr capacity as well.. it will definitely not be higher and a 12 cell will be much heavier.
Coming Soon: Xps M1530!
