I think I've waited long enough. I demand they make the P8600, DDR3 and 512MB video available on the Studio 17 immediately. Tonight.

Curious about the ATI Mobility RADEON® M86XT - 512MB on the 1640. Anyone know anything about this chip?
-
Hey! See this thread...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=323801
Lots of info about the 1340/1640 in there!
Thanks for the post
Cin -
No hybrid Grpahics?
XPS 13 has 9500!! W00t , pretty powerful graphics.
The M86XT isn't even on ATI's main website. good look to anyone finding any information online -
although, it's 9400G or 9500... nothign afterwards? who knows?

i am about to order the 13 .... just with the LED screen... any opinions?
-
cool find!
-
Wait..yeah for sure I would want that...a thinner look, LED..WXGA..oh yeah baby!
OHhhhh sexyness in both!
I'm going to wait...would love to see some more color choices and such...but that will come later on, of course! And, also wait on some special pricing
Cin -
Cin , live life ... order one and put ur 1530 on sale ....
-
"M86-XT" would be the correct name I think, if you are Googling the graphics card in the 16.
-
Thing is...I would want another color choice...like, can you guess????
* red* lmao..oh lulz. Hmmm who knows, maybe I will challenge myself to order black or another color!
Let us know how that order works for you!
Cin -
you cant go red every time .... u have a red mini... get black.
-
Maybe I will..maybe not...prob's will!
Are you still in your order config'????
I wonder what the ESD on these will be???
Cin -
I just noticed that XPS 13 does not yet have: Blu-ray, 9-cell battery, and color options. Other than that the specs are awesome. And the price is pretty decent! EXCITED !!!
-
Wow!!! Really cool find. Why would the the links be only active for 48 hours though?
I'm also able to add these to the cart. I wonder if the order would go through if i supply my CC. LOL..... -
It looks very nice but really it's too little too late. Thankfully I'm not in a rush to get a laptop, although an upgrade is in order this year or very early next year probably. I'll wait for the new Intel Core i7 laptops later this year and hopefully with USB 3.0 and 802.11n (Final) and other things that are just around the corner. And yes it's ridiculous to always wait for the next thing but in this case, I'll wait because it seems worth it. Hope everyone likes their Studio XPS 13/16s when you get them!

ATI Mobility FireGL V5725 (M86XT-GL)
This comes from the 8730w (HP) manual.
Could it mean that the 2 cards share the same chip? Do you know anything about the V5725's performance? -
I didn't have to change a single thing off the stock 1640 for it to be to my liking! Wow.
-
and also is not to expensive!!!..
I only upgrade the processor to T9400 and I get everything cheaper than I pay my M1530 configuration with coupon 4 months ago!!
I asked the wife to buy again and i she didn't like the idea at all...
this means that our M1530 is now obsolete ?? ......(please don't answer) -
So I can find no information on the usual sites (Tom's Hardware, ATI, Anandtech, etc.) for the 16" graphics card Dell calls M86XT.
What in the world did they decide to use? ATI's site doesn't even mention it. There were much more mainstream cards I thought they would use unless they plan to turn off entertainment-heavy, gamers, etc and force them to go to Alienware or elsewhere. Shocker this one was to be honest.
Also, nothing but 6-cell battery options? With this machine, I was hoping to get it propped up a bit via a 9-cell or 12-cell battery. Maybe you can order it over the phone?
I'll have to also Google, but anyone know the difference (their help icon doesn't do much good) between:
Intel® 5100 WLAN Wireless-N (1x2) Half Mini Card [subtract $45]
Intel® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card [Included in Price]
? -
The specs are really nice (320GB 7200 rpm & 512mb Video Card) at base price but i don't like the 16" screen as that will undoubtedly increase the weight and is also lower res (1366x768) because of it being 16:9 compared to the 1530's 16:10 (1440x900) option.
Any one know how good the ATI Mobility RADEON® M86XT is compared to our Dare i Say OBSOLETE 1530's Nvidia 8600 .... -
As I mentioned before these would arrive during CES, and so it happened
-
It's a Radeon HD 3670, but digging up benchmarks is nigh impossible, and notebook check isn't reliable.
-
m86 gl is a fire gl card visit notebook check

16"...meh.....
I'd like to know how the video card is compared to the M1530 8600M GT also. -
Does it mention the LED Backlit Keyboard anywhere as being standard?
-
Why does the 1640 have a bluray drive but not the 1340? The 1640's bluray drive is slot load so surely it should fit in the 1340. I've been waiting for months just to wait for the bluray option! Any ideas on whether this will be forthcoming soon for the 1340?
I'm not sure I understand the monitor options. Clearly the slim WLED is better (because it's thinner?) but it has a 1.3MP camera whereas the LED screen has a 2MP camera. -
great work andya1280
-
AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
worth the wait... IMHO.....F@#$ YES
wow...
not bad for the price..not BAD AT ALLLLLLLL
quick question tho, how duz the M86XT stack up against other graphics cards?? like 9600Mgt etc etc -
Interesting finds:
Comes with Vista 64-bit
16" has resolutions of 16:9 instead of the usual 16:10
Facial recognition software?
and the cost to upgrade memory is still overpriced -
-
Wow, so if the answer I'm getting so far on Anadtech and based on the link above provided with benchmarks:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile...&search=&sort=model&type=specs&vantage3dmark=
The card they put in the 16" is, according to the anantech posters, a "low to mid card" and according to the benchmarks on that link, when compared to the 9600M which the likes of the DV5T, HDX16T (uses DDR3 even I think), have:
3DMark06 Scores:
9600M GT 512: 5154
Mobility FireGL V5700 512 (M86-GL): 3564
Ought to be interesting to see the fallout on the forums on various sites tomorrow
The biggest issue they will have is pawning that off on people, especially gamers, who don't recognize a mainstream card.
Hopefully, it is a misprint on their website and they are probably using like a 9800M or higher, or it would make no sense.
Then again, maybe that had issues with a _real_ graphics card and hence the delay in releasing... -
how much do these new lappies weigh?
-
M86-XT (GDDR3) is the same Mobility Radeon HD 3670:
http://products.amd.com/pt-br/Mobil...f7=&f8=&f9=&f10=&f11=&f12=&f13=&f14=&f15=True
4700 points in 3DMark'06
Not bad but GeForce 9600M GT is still better with 5150 points -
Yeah there is a unanimous decision on the other forums that the 9600M is about 30% better.
Amazing they would but such a non-mainstream, limiting card in this.
The 13" is a much better solution as a whole.
And most of the people getting a 16" would be people interested in gaming, hardcore entertainment, etc.
Well, I'm sure its a misprint and probably they are using a 9800M+ but more to find out during CES -
yep that notebookcheck link site lists the M86-GL not the M86-XT. Given that in the past the XT suffix is used to denote a higher model, I'd say the equivalence of a 3670 and 3dmark score of 4700 is right
-
Here more specs for M86:

Okay, the graphics card is a joke. And what is up with the big gap between the screen resolutions? 1368 to 1920? Something in the middle would have been good.
I'm no longer worried that I went with the MacBook Pro. -
Okay, so I need a laptop.
What I want is an xps m1730 but I'd rather not pay the $1800.
What does everyone think of the value on this Studio 1640?
What computers might be better in this $1200 price range?
The Gateway P7811 FX seems good but I guess it runs too hot.
How long before the 1640 reviews come in?
Do you think Dell can be trusted immediately or should I wait for user reviews?
Should I just order this now?
Want, want, want. -
Is this the reason why this graphics card is being used?
http://ati.amd.com/technology/switchgraph/index.html -
wouldnt think so because nvidia chipsets also have a similar feature
-
Well like I said before, there has to be a reason it took THIS long for this to come out. There is nothing groundbreaking, and in some ways, some items have taken a step back.
One day you'll probably know the story, but it seems just like with Dell's XPS desktops, the XPS laptops have seen their day.
The 13" might do for people who just want to stick with Dell, but unless some drastically different news comes out of CES, I don't see a line for people wanting the 16" with that graphics option.
A card the performs under the capabilities of pretty much all other equivalent vendor models!
Time to find a good coupon on the HDX16 or DV5T but at least now I know I don't have to worry about waiting and thinking "Darn!"
Shame... -
Still no one has bench marked this card, wait till you see some hard evidence before jumping in to conclusions.
. There are people who are interested in a 16" wide screen notebook for other purposes, like for watching movies for instance... what about ordinary work ? if the price is right and that card has some decent performance, then people will line up.
-
Come on, it's been established that the Studio XPS 16 will not be gaming-oriented and certainly won't have anything 256 bit.
EDIT: Can anyone confirm that this laptop will have a backlit keyboard? I can't see anything about that on the Dell site.
Dell Studio XPS 1340/1640 now available for purchase on Dell's site !!!
