Excuse my ignorance... what is a EPP??
Is that Gift Card avaiable in all the countries?
is a 10% good discount?do you think i could get more discount?
-
-
Most of the time, you will get this from your employer! You can get a 7% discount off the price of your notebook, accessories, etc..from Dell. There is a special site you go to access.
10% is a very good discount, esp. on the 1340/1640's right now!

lol im so confused with the gift card thing. its like a game of hide and seek. Now you see it and then you dont. Ive seen it on and off a couple of times now and i dont know why they would do such a thing.

Individual letters end up looking blurry and inconsistent in thickness. This isn't a major inconvenience, but may bother some people -
Any thoughts / info on whether a non-Dell wireless card will be available? Would prefer the Intel 5xxx 802.11n goodies over Dell's stuff.
-
Just 4 days ago, on dell.dk, I ordered a 1640 with the Intel Wifi Link 5300 wireless. The only other choice was the Intel Wifi Link 5100. No signs of Dell labeled wifi-cards.
-
He means the 1340.
-
It's probably gonna say "you can't use that on this item" on most stuff not from dell (which is mostly what dell's got for less than or 200 $$). if you want to buy something more expensive, like another system, you're gonna have to add a load of your own money. And it's probably also gonna say "can not be combined with another offer" on that.
+ it's got a 6-8 week ship date
+ it's got a 90 day expiration date
don't buy the studio xps for the gift card. looks and sound nice, but 60% (i guess) of nonindustrial individuals who get it won't find an opportunity to use it)
Note: this message may be biased, because I ordered my system 2 hours before the thing started. -
THe $200 gift card is good on anything. I confirmed with them before placing an order. They even said explicitly that I could get an Xbox 360.
@Lux: You should just call them on the phone and have them throw the gift-card in with you order.
THe second time I added my compute to the cart, there was no gift-card. BUt I called them on the phone and they added it. Configure your computer, add to cart, then the sales guy can look up your cart and take it from there. -
You just have to have the patience to wait the full 6-8 weeks out!
I used mine last year, when rec'd in March on several things

Cin can you order already !!!!!

is the keyboard compatible with the xps 1330? I really like that black backlight keyboard. even if it won't work backlit i still like the overall look.
-
I made a thread about this a while ago actually:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=274842
(M1530 and M1330 have the same keyboard size and everything)
You can check out the photoshopped keyboards, all you want, but the truth is, the illuminated keyboard requires two cables to provide sufficient power and the M1330 and M1530 do not have the right connector slot.
HOWEVER......... if you just like the look of the black keyboard... the Vostro keyboard DOES fit.
Screenshots with M1530 here with Vostro keyboard installed:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=295797
(It will work for M1330 as I stated before, same keyboard dimensions) -
IMO the XPS 1330 and 1530 have the best notebook keyboards I've ever used though
-
I agree. They keys are very responsive and even after using it for a couple of months, they still work fine and people have asked me if it is a new notebook. XD
Illumination would have been nice, but its one of those things thats nice to have, but not really necessary. Sure its helpful in the dark, but being a touch typist, it doesn't matter to me. -
Dell sure likes their backlights. Every single notebook equipped with Montevina they offer (except for some oddities) can have a backlit keyboard.
-
anyone know what the resolution of the screen is on the Studio XPS 13?
Thanks! -
1280 by 800.

I just checked with a DELL rep and in the DELL chat: You cannot buy a XPS 16 in Germany without the integrated TV-Tuner.
For a company that let's customers choose on their website what config they need for their laptop, I find that very disappointing.
I wonder, is there a TV-Tuner integrated in the U.S.-models? -
What's so bad about a TV Tuner?

-
How will it cause more heat when the person doesn't use it
I think the guy just wants to save money. -
It's not only that.
There's a fee in Germany (under public law) for having a TV and being able to watch public television. It's about $20 a month, $240 a year. I don't own a TV because I watch none. I'm not going to start paying this fee just because I want this laptop. (Having (and the law says having and not using) a laptop with tv-tuner makes it a tv. Watching internet-tv is different.)
I know no one is going to infiltrate my house looking for a laptop with a tv-tuner and I could very well not bother about it. But call me naive, I'm not the conceiling type of guy. -
In Germany there is also this Fees if u here radio in ur car or on ur mobile... or if u use german radio streams with ur computer....
so are u still living in the 50's... -
Then DON'T use it.
-
I think ur missing the point plasma...it doesn't matter if u use it or not...you have to pay for having it
-
How the heck does the gov't charge you for that. Is it part of your tax documents? Do you get a monthly bill? Geez.
I dont even have cable and just get over the air stuff (im in Canada). I wouldnt pay for it though. -
uninstall the TV tuners driver, end of story. I really don't understand why you think it's an issue, no one would ever know, ever.
-
All right, all right, put me on display in a museum for abiding by the law ...
-
hehe, well it sounds like a bit of a silly law. I mean, you don't want to use it so i don't really see you as breaking a law, so by all means disregard it, i certainly would/will (as in the UK we have a similar thing).
-
If you think that's silly then wait until your hear this:
In Denmark you have to pay around 370 $ a year if you have a television OR an internet connection with at least 256 kb/s download. -
We pay a fee for having a cable connection here too (Netherlands) costs about 12euro's a month...but that's up to you really, i've got digital tv for about 20 and that gives me LOADS of channels, cable is standard
-
Thing is that when u have a device in your home capable of playing tv (or radio even sometimes) the goverment charges you for it, ofcourse you can choose to not pay for it but if they ever check (hardly happens really) the fines are actually pretty steep. Over here not having cable is pretty much not having anything on tv except for a handful of public channels but nobody really uses antenna's anymore LOL...i can remember the time we did but that's a LOOONG time ago
-
To make it a little worthwhile at least, I'm also concerned about the weight. At 2.9 kg, you'd be glad about any little bit that you could push off the boat that you don't need. And I suppose, the Tuner + Antenna is worth 50 grams? Maybe more?

For the people that spoke with the Dell CSR, any possibility of Dell offering a third option for screen res on the XPS 16?
I was about to pull the trigger on the studio 17" a month ago and then held back, seeing the bad speakers, the slightly weaker GFX (compared to HP's) and then came the XPS 16".
Now I'm all ready but after seeing the 13XX res on a 16" laptop at BB, I know this is gonna come back and bite me in future if I order now. The 1080p option is too much (as well as the cost).
Now if Dell gets a medium option like 14XX or 1650X, I'll jump on this in a heartbeat. -
Anyone seen any review of the 1340 yet? Has anyone on NBR got it delivered?

Anyone have an idea when the ATI 4000 series will hit the XPS 16?
Also, anyone know of any coupons or deals on the XPS 16?
Thanks! -
@cfoo: I bet the Adamao won't have the full-processor specs, nor discrete graphics of that of the 1340...purely my speculation.
I also don't believe it's going to be here any day now.
It be nice to be wrong, as it's a thing of beauty...but we have no idea as to what performance will be available on the the thing. -
The Air/Adamo are for VERY different markets IMO than a full notebook like the 1340. The former is a bit lighter and a tiny bit smaller, and appeals to some people visually. The latter is much more powerful, much more fully equipped, and much cheaper.
For me, there's no question which I'd get, but...well a lot of people have fashion fetishes... -
Dell have made it pretty clear that Adamo will be a sub brand not just a single machine. Premium branding with different models.
-
So I think for a number of reasons, the biggest that Dell has no plans on doing that for this laptop, that it won't happen.
If they do decide to continue the actual true XPS line, you might see one on there in a year or so. -
For California, upon checkout, why does the state environmental fee for the studio 13 show as $16 when the rule is "$8 per device with a screen size greater than 4" but less than 15"". Looks to me like the studio 13 is being mis-categorized as a 15-35" display.

Anyone springing for the samsung solid state drive?
While better SSD drives may be around the corner, the after market prices of SSD drives seem much worse, so at $200 the current 128GB model seems like a pretty good value to me... -
Im thinking of the SSD; $250 (CDN) for 128 is cheaper than oem at retail.
Performance may not match the top units out right now; but, it will be better than 72000 rpm units... and, you get all the benefits of SSD, which is my primary consideration since im not gaming or doing anything extensive like that. I need a quiet, cool running and vibration free laptop.
Dell Studio XPS 1340/1640 now available for purchase on Dell's site !!!
