I believe some people owe a certain someone an apology, as that is IDENTICAL to images that were posted earlier.

Edit: Also, I absolutely love the looks, except I don't care for the leather.

No, I'm not referring to you :) I'm referring to the big hoopla that occurred when Jayson posted the slides (that Engadget refers to in its article) earlier, and a few users said he was blatantly lying to get attention. Well, these images are identical to those slides.

And I do owe Jayson an apology, I kinda got carried away as well

Wow, I really dig the look of the keyboard.
I really hope though, that the glossy black cover not the only option for the notebook when it comes out...
Cant wait to see some pics of the 16" model!!

Thats the second thing I noticed; it looks like a pain to type on because of the way the keys are made. The first thing I noticed, in picture 4 of 12, it looks A LOT like a MB or MBP.

    A few observations:

    - I hope having the USB/eSATA port right under the slot drive doesn't cause any problems/conflicts.

    - I'm not too crazy about the glossy parts which I presume will be the same with the Studio XPS 16. I'll need a microfiber cloth in close proximity to it. :(

    - A little more plastic this time around, but it looks like high-grade plastic.

    - I'm not too sure if I like the leather (or possibly wood insert). I'll have to wait to see my options there.

    - Some people may dislike the metal hinges (how they continue up the bezel a little) but I think it adds character to the notebook.

    - The keyboard is following the SONY/Apple trend, we'll see how Dell pulls it off. Overall, it doesn't look bad. I'm looking forward to getting the specs on it and especially the Studio XPS 16.

    That's what I understood too.

Actually, it's not an 'island' / chicklet design like on the Z or Macbook. It does look like it.

It looks like the same keyboard that was on the Sony SZ series from a couple years back.

The new XPS 13 looks nice, but it seems thicker than the m1330.

It does seem quite thick yes.

Probably because Dell wants to avoid the cooling problems the m1330 had.

thought so too.. but when looking at side pics and comparing the size of the USB port and the slot loading drive in these two pics. they look about the same. Its just that the the bottom part of the XPS angles inward a bit to give the illusion its thinner.

    Nice looking....
What turn me off is the location of the headphone jacks. Why at the front?
I just hate the external speakers cable snaking below my hands.
Hopefully they relocate these jacks to side.

I don't see the point of having three video connectors. VGA especially doesn't need to be on this, since there are Display Port to VGA adapters available. Just space taken that could have been used to add another USB port.

it seems to be the lovechild of a studio laptop with the screen of a macbook pro. I do like the new stylish design, but I'm not digging how blocky and cheap the body of the laptop is.

I am glad the power adapter is now on the right side of the computer, I hated it on the left side. Also, I am so glad for e-Sata, but why Displayport? To my understanding, the only advantage of display port is to display really high resolutions (more than the hdmi 1920x1200), but is that necessary? VGA is necessary because of backwards compatibility, but really both HDMI and Displayport? They also kind of uglied the front iwth a card reader and three ports.

i guess nobody knows until they see it, but I'm not digging the silver trim and the leather either.

Oh dear. is THAT what we have been awaiting?
In my eyes it will suit the US market but is an appauling design for the rest of the world where style exists.
    It is horrible!
Looks like an american designed car, tasteless and tacky :-(

We don't know anything yet about specs or dates. Right now it's all speculation.

@Jayson, I'm apologizing for questioning the authenticity of the slides, which to be honest, weren't the most proffesional slides I'd ever seen. I still didn't like the way you kept on randomly blurting out dates.

But again, let's not get off topic.

I'm hoping they keep backlights for the keyboard.

Wow the new design is awesome indeed! I especially like the leather at the back of the screen. I'd assume it'll make carrying the laptop with one hand much better without leaving smudges on the lid all the time.

I don't really fancy the keyboard though, it doesn't seem very comfortable to type on...

Still, I'll be holding my breath for the 16-incher instead. Gaming-wise the 16 should be more suitable. :)

Give him a break. He's just expressing his view. Not everyone has to like it.

I'm neutral. It's a hit and a miss. From all the angles we have so far it appears to be thicker than the current XPS. That's a step backward in the wrong direction. I don't dig the leather (assuming it's not vinyl) either. I hope it's an option. Have you seen what leather look like on a car seat after about a year? It won't be pretty. It's tacky.

Whaaaat?! Oh man just yesterday I was pretty set on pulling the trigger for the macbook then boom news of the xps 13 after like...months and months, which I was originally waiting for.

Tbh I'm not sure I dig the new design, if they needed the screw hinge support possibly for the leather at the back, i'd rather they hide it under the screen frame. The whole look of the leather and black gloss and the pricing of the materials that make then makes it look more like a high quality business laptop than one for casual everyday use. Hmmm not sure about this one, gonna have to wait for specs and price.

Anyone notice the bottom seems to be one whole panel to access laptop insides and that the grating pattern is actually lots of X's then with an PS at the end? Lol I find that quite funny. :p

Finally some real news on this thread!

    Your The Man Jayson! :notworthy:
(now, what can you tell us about the 16"?)

I am unsure of the design from the images on engadget. Overall it is ok, but will take some getting used to. I have my doubts about that leather and shiny black plastic. I feel like it will look like a fingerprinted mess after you handle for a short period. I would definetly want to see one in person before ordering it. Does anyone have a place they go to see Dell products in person? I am having a hard time just finding a store that has the Studio 15 on display.:confused2:
