Don't you think it's possible to say you don't like something without trashing an entire country?

Well, props to Jayson. Though it seems Dell probably goofed up somewhere in development. It is nice to see the Studio XPS 13 as they promised.

A shame I've already moved on. Then again, without specs... a nice casing isn't going to sell me. :D
I really don't like that glossy finish. I'm like... anal about fingerprints. >_<

I'm a little bit deceived, it's at least as thick as the old xp, with half cm less it would have been awesome.
Maybe I'm too suspicious, but I still doubt that all the specs, posted in Jayson's slides are going to be in this laptop, maybe I'm wrong about waht a "edge to edge glass floating display" is but in this pics I see a ordinary tft, nothing special. But still, do you think a sli can fit inside that little thing?
About the design I just have to say that is way better than the last xps, it could have been better but is definetely above the average.

I agree with your assessment. After the m1330, this thing looks kinda bulky. It reminds me of my Inspiron 13.

I don't know... maybe the pictures are a little deceiving, and it will be much thinner looking in person.

Maybe you already know, but: the thinner a laptop is, the smaller the fans need to be and the less air circulation there can be.

    For example:
Macbook air, very thin, max CPU = 1.8Ghz. (with lower TDP)
Sony Z, quite thick, can handle 3.0Ghz CPU. (with higher TDP)

So a thinner laptop would be nice, but it's also more prone to overheating problems.

How does the m1330 handle heat? It's not exactly fat.

Quite bad. Lots of problems especially combined with 8400M.

I think Dell may have learned from their mistakes.

Gotcha. I will say, my I13 doesn't seem to get super hot. It's quite comfortable on a lap. It's also a bit thicker, so you may be right about them learning their lesson.

So how are they going to deal with the Adamo? from the engadget post it's supposed to be the world thinnest. I'm guessing we'll see sub-par performance parts on it? I guess that's why it's not thin + fastest.

No idea. I don't know anything more than Engadget has published. My remark that it will have lower voltage CPU is speculation/educated guess.

It may have similar CPUs as Macbook Air. So that would be 1.86 SL9400 afaik.

Engadget thinks February. They were supposed to be here in December, but got delayed. Probably introduced at CES.

Just another observation regarding the actual name "Studio XPS"
    1. On picture 6 and 12 you clearly can see "XPS" written on side of the hinge.
    2. picture 8: on the left side (middle) you again can see "XPS"

So, is it a "pure" XPS? I don't think so:

    3. Same picture at the bottom: STUDIO is written in tiny letters.

So, seems to be the long awaited "Studio XPS". :)

Been following these 'xps studio' threads silently since the beginning, and it's great to finally see something that looks like it actually will be released.

Sadly I have no interest in a 13inch so really hope some info will come out on the 16inch or even a new 15inch...

I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Studio 15 but now I think it may be worth a wait. The Studio 15 is almost perfect for me (LED Backlit, Backlit Keyboard, 9 Cell option that works, P8600)- if only it had a slightly better GPU, even the ATI 3650.

My trusty HP DV1348AP will just have to keep me going until I move myself back home to Aussieland, then hopefully by the end of Jan '09 I can get me a Studio XPS 15, or 16incher.

Anyway I think it looks great, would be nice to get some specs and a price though..

    The wait continues...

the adamo is the ultra thin macbook air competitor
not the same as the two xps studio notebooks

Actually I am glad they did not include those. Just a power buton. Media keys always confuse me about what each one does and I never use them. Not to mention those media keys that light up in bright colors. Try watching a movie with those flashlights under the screen! It also looks more business-like without them.

Also It does not look widescreen (as in 16:9) to me, look at the SONY Z to see how wide it is:
    http://images.google.com/images?q=sony+fw+z
Just look at the side edges how thin they are!

I'm more curious about the weight. I would like to see Dell release it at 4 lbs flat w/ expanded battery. That'd be great.

If anyone had the release date, it would be all over the forums, and you wouldn't have to ask. Since it's not mentioned in this thread or any other, it's safe to assume, no one knows.

Hmmm, only 2 USB ports? And one of them is shared with eSATA, so that makes ONLY ONE standalone USB2 port. Without a solid Docking Station this laptop si so useless, bad design move by choosing DisplayPort + HDMI in favor of USB2 ports.

It's probably just a matter of what the layout is of the desk it will be used on the most, or where the outlet would normally be while you use it on your lap.

Personally, I don't care what side it's on, as long as it's on the same side as the NIC. I prefer to have all of my cords coming out of the same side, when it's on my desk at work.

I went to the dell > home laptops page to configure a xps m1530 and noticed that it is no longer there. The m1330 is there, but the next option is Studio XPS 13. No sign of a Studio xps 15/16. I clicked the link but the page doesn't go anywhere yet. Strange that the site would be changed this early if the laptop wont be released for two months. The m1330 came out way before the m1530 didnt it? Maybe the studio xps will work the same way.

    Studio XPS 13
    Screen Size: 13.3"
    Starting Weight: 4.85lbs.
    Starting Price $1,406
