    Which problems?

I'm trying to decide to keep or return this device.
Till now the touchpad dosent register double clicks well and Im looking if this coil whine is acceptable for me.
The Touchpad was better before I clean installed Windows 10. Any ideas?

    Everything else is very good.
Good Wifi signal, connects without problems, wake up without problems, good display.

There arent many alternatives for the XPS.
I had the spectre but this was the last time with HP.

I haven't had any issues with my touchpad. It works great.

I've had flickering screen issues(seems to have been fixed after putting wifi power output at 75%).
Chrome, when maximized, will also bob up and down when hovering over hyperlinks and as far as I know there is no fix. It's a bit of an eyesore.
I've now experienced a couple of times where the laptop wakes up even though the lid is closed.

    Okay thank you.
I will try to get an refund, because 1500€ for a device with
    - loudest coil whine
    - bad touchpad
    is too much.
Looked at the x1 yoga and x1 carbon today.
    - touchpad like it should
    - no coil whine
And it would be cheaper for me as a student.

    Edit:
I installed the synaptics mouse drive and removed it again and now double clicks will registered much better.
    Don't know why

Anybody still has problems with humming noise from speakers that appeared after Anniversary update? The system still urges me to install the updates.

Did you just dowload the older version from Dell's driver page?
Or did you get it elsewhere?
Or did you just roll back in device manager?

OK, why is it that most mornings when I open the 13 from sleep, it starts up from a powered off state? Some mornings it seems it has downloaded and applied updates and some mornings it just starts as if it had been powered off. If I close the lid and then open it an hour later, it just wakes up from sleep as expected. I'm just a little confused about what this thing is doing when it's supposedly sleeping overnight. Closing the lid is currently set to sleep in settings.

Probably. Lithium battery chargers will usually trickle charge the last couple of % to help maintain the battery's health.

That's why you see all the phones with quick charging - they only charge some of the phone at a extremely fast rate. The slower the rate of charging, the less stress the battery has and as a result you get a longer lasting battery.

I can't solve a bluetooth problem, even after reinstalling Windows 10 from recovery partition.
I'm connecting to a bluetooth audio device, and it's automaticly connecting when booting up.
After standby the device can't reconnect anymore, even manually.
After installing newest bluetooth drivers (Dell Wireless 1820a) it worked for one week, then again no reconnect possible.
Then even the bluetooth keyboard did not connect.
After reinstalling Win10 i didn't update any bluetooth drivers. Worked again for one week and connected automaticly to bluetooth audio even after many wakes from standby.
Again not connecting after one week of use.
Bluetooth keyboard is working, yet. Don't know what to do.
Any help, after problems with USB-C, Thunderbolt, fan noise and bluescreens i'm starting to hate my XPS13 laptop?

Update: After searching this topic i uninstalled a "WIDCOMM bluetooth" application (under control panel / uninstall apps). After reboot bluetooth audio reconnects again immedeately. Seems this preinstalled s-h-i-t caused weeks of frustration.

I was checking the new announcement of Dell on its site (DELL Technologies) and just couldn't take my eyes from that sideways "E" on the corner.. just like Mr. Robot's "E corp"..
    Sorry for the off topic.
Still no news about XPS 13 with Kaby Lake.
Come on Dell take my money!

Hopefully they can finally fix all the bugs when they refresh the XPS 13 lineup. It's taken a looong time to figure out all the bugs and stuff.
    1. Windows scaling sucks. Had to schedule a dpi fix script upon every boot.
    2. Flickering/flashing screen. Turned off panel self-refresh and lowered the wlan card power output to 75%. Also updated to the very latest Intel graphics drivers. The screen finally stopped flickering after doing those steps.
    3. Bezel around the bottom of the screen is starting to not stick as well as it used to be. I'm assuming those with a touch panel don't have any sort of issues, but I have a matte fhd.
    4. Keyboard is a bit on the mushier side. More importantly, the key-rollover is terrible. Light fps gaming with the wasd keys is a pain.
    5. Had an issue with chrome only on this laptop. Chrome would shift up and down by a pixel or two when hovering above hyperlinks. I finally fixed it by disabling hardware acceleration in chrome.
    6. FHD has adaptive brightness control. This is a smaller nitpick and I knew it going into the purchase, but it really needs to be removed. I see no benefit.
    7. Everything is a fingerprint magnet
I love the design and the form factor. It's just so damn hard to make everything work right that it's tough recommending this to people.

As expected, those specs are incredibly close to those of the current XPS. From a practical perspective, it is not much of an update at all.

Big improvement, however, if Dell decides to complete all beta testing and work of the bugs before release.

Kaby Lake XPS 13 looks like just another refresh. Like pressing, hopefully they fix the bugs.

    Things to note:

KillerTM 1535 Wireless-AC 2x2 + Bluetooth 4.1. No more Dell shoddy wifi cards. Personally I'd prefer the Intel 8260 though.
Still uses DDR3L, but 16GB comes at 2133. This is a nice boost and should help the performance of the integrated graphics by a small amount.

Update 2: Today lost all bluetooth devices again. Bluetooth settings tell they are paired, but no connection (audio + keyboard).
Installed newest driver again from dell support and devices are reconnecting again immediately. Now i'm waiting for next week, until bluetooth will stop working again.
    It's frustrating.

Update 3 after 3 weeks: Installed INTEL Dual Band Wireless-8260 card for 20€, and bluetooth disconnect problems are 99% gone.

I got a Latitude E7470 (i7 skylake, 8gb, 256pci-e) from company that I work last week and it have the same coil whine that my XPS 13 has.

    What's happening with Dell?

Or maybe be it's something with Skylake processors??

I believe HD 620 should be better since that's kaby-lake stuff, but not enough benchmarks are out so we'll have to wait and see.

Guys, noticed a couple of weeks ago, that the hinge on my 9350 became loose, it has a freeplay of around15mm now. When I close the lead, and place the machine the touchpad side up, the gap comes right up.
Is there an easy fix for it? Or it's the service job? I'm in the part of the world now, where the Dell's customer support is not easily available. And my warranty expires in a couple of months.

P.S. I opened up the bottom cover, checked the hinge screws, they are as tight as it gets.
Noticed two hexagonal nuts at the ends of the pivot axle, but no idea how to tighten them, there's no way I could do that, with the instruments I have, the space around them, is just too tight.

This has happened to me on other laptops. The problem was screws that worked themselves loose. The fix was to remove the back cover and retighten the screws both on the frame and screen, both left and right hinges. To prevent the problem from reocurring, I actually removed a screw, put a dab of locktite, tightened screw. Repeated the process for all the hinge screws.

Dell has a PDF service manual available for the 9550 (and hopefully the 9350) that show the steps so you can determine if that work is in your comfort zone. When I opened the 9550, the screws looked fairly accessible but required removing some other stuff if I remember correctly.

I would really like to see Dell offer the same potential configurations across both the 1080p and higher res touchscreen versions.

On the website right now you can get an i7/16gb/512gb configuration in the touch screen, but not in the 1080p. If that configuration would be an option in the 1080p screen, I'd be very tempted to purchase. But on that higher res touchscreen model, no thanks.

In reality it will have max. 15 % more battery life than Skylake.

And I guess on QHD+ the fans will turn on less often.

I use the Asus graphics dock, an external GPU with Nvidia 960m. It works without problems, plug&play: just install Nvidia drivers and you're ready to rock.

Anyone else experiencing very low battery life? I checked by battery consumption and it was idling at 10W. I restarted and it went down to 3.5.. but as soon as i close the lid/push the power button and then wake the computer it won't go below 10W.. The CPU package is 5-7 W with 1% usage..

Guys, what scaling % do you set your QHD resolution for?

This is my first 4k laptop and i can't seem to find the sweet spot.

To be honest, i don't see any benefits to 4k resolution. It can not be used without scaling, and i think i'd rather just have a simple 1920x1080 (i've worked on it for years with no issues)

Strange, I am also sometimes idling with higher power outputs but I usually have many programs opened and I restart only when forced by Win updates :-D
Are you sure you have 10 W with 1 % CPU usage? Check what programs do you have opened.

I have FHD and use it on 100 % (using old programs, often switching to external screen) but with the QHD+ I would definitely use 200 % - that should make effectively same view as 1600x900 but with a "retina" resolution (4x crispier than normal 1600x900).

Has anyone tried this driver for disabling the FHD adaptive brightness? I have heard there are some options for the FHD as well but dont know if it works.

    Just try it out.
Many are using 150% to get more content on the screen.
    I prefer 175%.
But the real problem with 4K on such a small screen is that many programs are not high dpi ready.
So you have to provide for them patched mainfest files to get an usable scaling.

If you have a 1080p display, don't run the utility to disable DBC.

Although it takes power from the Acer dock, this is not enough, and display adapter gets reset all the times. You have to use the power cord.

I believe I had that with my HP Thunderbolt 3 dock initially, it blinked on and off constantly (charging and external display) but I believe a driver fixed that recently, maybe the Intel HD driver.

    Hello All.

Just joined the forum and just taken delivery of an XPS 13 9350 i7 6500/256/8/QHD+ unit.

Having read all the posts about coil whine I have listened very carefully to my new unit. I can't hear any nosie but I wondered if there was a way of forcing a test to see if it happens.

I've tried AC adapter plugged in, keyboard backlight on while playing a video on Media Player.

I'm hoping I have been lucky and got a good one, but just want to make sure while there is still time to return it.

    Any advice appreciated.

I heard it most when upgrading BIOS.
Try to find a webpage with some animations (it drives the CPU up a bit and squeezes a bit more).
