Dell XPS 15 (L502X) - Order Progress

My EDD is 26/04 as well. Once again, like peas in a pod. The coupons I used for the XPS ran till 21/04 and Dell has coupons again until 27/04 which comparatively is £30 less than I paid so no love lost really with Dell - I think the £30 covers the cost of the 15 month McAfee subscription which I would have paid.....

 

Where's yours AK? Mine's just touched down in Germany...had an interesting journey so far!

Update

My order which was placed 4/14 has shipped today 4/21 with estimated delivery by Saturday 4/23, originally said 5/3.

The tip I believe is calling customer service and bring up the fact if it is sitting waiting for pick up by fedex as was the case with my unit.
I called yesterday 4/20 spoke to the customer service rep let him know the status in Order Status said "Ship Complete" but still have no tracking number. He confirmed said the laptop is packaged waiting for fedex, then today boom tracking number.

Not sure of this will work, but might help.

I am happy though not even 9 days and I will be seeing this unit in my hands, it was picked up in Jersey sweet that's were I guess it was built not even more then 3 hours away.


Also person above wow yours went through multiple nations, get the job done dell? Awwwwwwww Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Mine has said Ship Complete since Saturday. When I click on the order number it says Finalizing Production. I think it's just waiting for someone to pick it up for delivery. I hope they give to the shipping company soon. Does anyone know if they use someone specific? I hope it's UPS, the UPS guy always comes after I'm off work and I assume I'll have to sign.

 

My Dell computers always have been delivered by FedEx. You will have to sign. Enjoy.

 

Shipped! Yes! FedEx says the delivery date is 4/27, that's much better than the 5/5 estimate that Dell quotes. I ordered it 4/17, not a bad turn around time. Hopefully I'll be around to sign it, otherwise I'll be making a trip to their depot.

 

im really thinking of purchasing this laptop. should i opt for the 540m vs the 525m? i've read over and over that its not worth it, but want to pose the question out there for you users? any regrets not getting the 540M? i will be getting the high res screen.

Since the main Dell plant is here in sri perumbadur , chennai ... i hope the laptop is delivered quickly

 

I ordered it on 1st April anf got it on 18th April.
Seriously guys it's a very high end laptop , sound , screen and evrything is awesome. High end games runs so smoothly on high settings. But i'm facing issues with old games like NFS MW which do not offer more than 1024*768 , game just scales to middle of screen leaving two black bars. Nvdia 540 M Gt do offer display tab in control panel. This is something fishy. Nvdia has recetly launched new drivers for 540 M , today i'll install those. Hope it works. Fingers crossed

 

Good point, I asked Dell if I could drop the Studio Design part of the order if this would speed things up, but got no reply. I live in Switzerland, and such orders are shipped from Ireland, so delivery may take a while, still quoting 3+ weeks total time...

 

Dell is remarkably inflexible about changing or canceling orders, so I suspect they won't accommodate you. However, if they miss the estimated delivery date and Switzerland has laws protecting consumers in mail-order transactions, you may be entitled to cancel the order.

On the bright side, I'll bet your computer is going to look totally awesome with the professional studio design. Keep us posted and let us know what it looks like when you receive it.

I bought an L502x from Dell Canada with 12 months no interest.

Order Date: 4/16/2011
Estimated Delivery Date: 5/5/2011

Guessing that it would come from the US, for a 5-7 business days shipping, my laptop should be in 'Shipped Status' by April 27-28, right?

Should I wait 'til like end of April to bother them about my order? Or this is normal for Dell Canada. Thanks!

 

Just an FYI:

I ordered an L702x but my experience might help L502x orders. I ordered on 4/15 and recieved 4/25. My estimated ship date was 5/2 and estimated delivery date was 5/5. I called up order support on 4/22 to ask about some part delays and the Dell rep checked the status of my build. He told me that my system had already been boxed up and ready to ship since 4/20 and then asked if he had my permission to ship early. Of course I said yes. It was shipped from Chicago to a downtown Chicago address.

 

Ok I'll try that tomorrow. LOL it's just weird; normally, they would try to beat the EDD but your case, if you hadn't called them they wouldn't have taken action. Thanks anyway!

 

Hey Hey! My order arrived!!

This thing is awesome, I don't play online games, just normal stuff and some music recording. The screen blows my mind. Must have to be elderly or poor eyesight to complain about the text size. Oh and my digital photos look so amazing on it.

Love the keyboard, and the metallic feeling of where I rest my palms when typing. My only complaint so far is that the mouse buttons (not a mouse but whatever they are called below the touch pad) click a little too soft for my preferences. I would like them a little stiffer.

I'm an audiophile so I also ordered some external speakers, but I was very surprised at how good the included speakers sound.

Ordered late evening 4/15/11, EDD of 5/4/2011 at that time. Shipped 4/25 from somewhere in Chicago. Arrived 4/26 downtown Chicago.

Hi, when DELL refused to drop the Studio Design part of my order, I asked them to pls Expedite it - which they did; now I have 10 days knocked off my EDD, but instead of shipping from Ireland to Switzerland (like I expected), the order is now being shipped by UPS from China via Dubai & Germany!

Should I be worried; is the QA the same no matter where the item ships from; will I get all genuine parts, etc.; I will need to check this machine out v. carefully before saying that this order is complete (my last XPS had a HDD error which took a while to fix).

Does anyone have an experience of Dell Laptops from Singapore?

I live in the UK and mine came from China. Build quality and condition was brilliant. If there's any problems, just get in touch with them.

I asked the CS rep why my laptop was still "in production", he told me that there was a slight delay however he wouldn't give me the details as to why.
He said it was in the final stages of production (boxing?) and that my laptop is currently in the US. He told me that the latest I should get my laptop would be around June 1st, however I most likely will get it before then.

I really hope I get it soon, I'm sooo excited.

 

Eh? You ordered on 21st April, your EDD is 6th May and the CS rep told you that you might get it on 1st June??

OK, good news, thanks... My XPS 15 (L502x) has now arrived: <2 weeks total time, but +1wk arguing with Dell.

Spec: 15.6" 1366x768 Screen (who needs HD on such a small size), i7 2GHz CPU, Design Studio Red cover (nice), Driver DVDs, 8GB RAM, 500GB (7,200rpm) HDD - no SSD avail., DVD (but will replace with an SSD), 6 cell battery (they all die anyway), 1GB Graphics card (v. little diff. for the more exp. version & I don't play games), US keybaord, etc., was shipped from Singapore to Switzerland. Total cost $1.1K

Am busy setting up & testing, but seems OK so far...
Later will add external x12 Blu-Ray Burner, 120GB SSD to replace the HDD & move this to the DVD optical drive bay using a caddy, then throw away the DVD.

My EDD is 06/05/11 but I called in and they said there were delays so its been pushed.

 

Hey I'm in Toronto as well.

I just called customer service this afternoon. I was complaining how my laptop hasn't been shipped yet (2 days till EDD). So he told me it was in its final phase of production and then he kept going...I honestly, didn't understand much of what he was talking about ( I mean, no offense English is not my 1st language as well)...But I heard phrases like, 'core manager', 'trying their best', 'monitoring' but didn't hear anything about 'delays' though. He then told me that originally my EDD has been moved to May 27! But then he added that since my laptop is almost done I should expect it to be shipped in 3 business days.

Then I checked my status page and it has been 'Shipped'. I have my tracking number but no details on it yet, only a note: PLEASE CALL 1 888 SHIP-123 OR 1-888-744-7123 FOR INFORMATION ON THIS SHIPMENT.

I'll wait till tomorrow, if my tracking details haven't changed, I'll give them Purolator a call.

Lesson for me: If I want my order to move you have to call them and check the status yourself.

 

Laptop now installed, updated & tested (after 6 reboots & 5h work). Am pleased so far, except for the Seagate HD, which is supposed to be a 7,200rpm drive, but only scores a 5.5 on Windows Experience! The std graphics were also at this level, but if that's the Intel i7 emulation then understandable; the 3D score was over 7 , as were all the rest.

I was surprised that my overall score was not over 7, as I have a year old iMac with roughly the same spec that can score this high. Anyone else have unusual values in their Win. Exp. Rating, or can confirm the Seagate HD score? Just shows the need for an SSD...

I've installed a SSD in mine so my WEI HD score is 7.7. Didn't check what the 640GB Stock Toshiba 7200rpm scored, but the maximum any mechanical hard drive can score is 5.9 (maybe the 15krpm drives score a tad more) so 5.7 isn't awful.

WEI will always give an overall score of the lowest scoring component.

I got 5.7 for my Intel graphics and 6.7 for the Nvidia graphics.

 

I just checked my order status yesterday, it changed to "Delivery preparation" half way through the day, and within two hours it changed to "Shipped"
I called in to Purolator to check where it was since the tracking code wouldn't work online and the rep said it was shipping from Austin, Texas so I should probably get it within 4 days or so. I'm happy. =]

 

Mine has shipped and yesterday was "on vehicle for delivery". As of this morning it's still "on vehicle for delivery"!
