Dell XPS 15 (L502X) - Order Progress

I ordered on 5/19 and I am experiencing the 'Delivery Preparation' phase like some others. I used my order number as a FedEx Reference # and found the tracking number for my new XPS.

I called CS to see if I could get them to move a little faster (I'm impatient, I know ) and I was told that my system is ready to ship and that it would be delivered on 6/6...Honestly, that's not acceptable for a machine that is 'Ready to Ship'. The rep couldn't upgrade shipping or even give me any good information about when the system would ship, he just gave my phone number to an agent at Dell who will call me in "3 days time" to confirm that my computer has shipped. Oh well, couldn't hurt to call right? Hopefully it ships later today or tomorrow. Others have had better luck but maybe it was just enough to push my computer through the system.

Joosay, I ordered 1 day after you and had very similar specs as your machine. Hopefully I'm next in line! Keeping my fingers crossed.

 

Can you give the link were you ordered this? I am not able to have this system configuration for the above price at dell.ca

I ordered on 15/5, but the order was placed on the phone (and even though the backlit keyboard was a customizable option online, the operator didn't touch on it). When I received the order confirmation and discovered it was ordered with a 'standard' keyboard I called back and the operator understood my concern about having a back-lit and placed a new order (minus the 36 month McAfee subscription she somehow talked me into originally) on 17/5 (since I called back the very next day, she talked to her manager and it was alright to replace the order). However, when I called back on 22/5 regarding the progress of my order they told me the standard keyboard order was still being fulfilled and that the back-lit order even though it was on the system as a confirmed order had not (as yet) been fulfiled (placed in pre-production). So now they've properly cancelled the standard keyboard laptop (due to be received on 30/5) and it's still showing up as production completed online and the backlit keyboard order is showing up as 'cancelled'.
Hopefully they'll update my customer number with the right orders (online - even though I've been told it's inaccurate), until then I'm crossing my fingers on a delivery time within the next month or so.
The laptop cost around $1800 ($1870 approx US) and I'm considering right now to pay an extra $220 for an additional two years warranty (due to the significance of the investment).
Is the warranty support worth it? I had to get my XPS 13 serviced multiple times due to horrible fan and AC connection issues.

 

I ordered it on the phone. Started with the $899 promo from the long weekend, and got the dude to give me the 6 cell and 6230 instead of the 9 cell and the 1000/1030 wireless card...

FedEx picked it up from Dell and is estimating delivery tomorrow, 5/25...Life is good!

Dell.com still has no idea it has shipped of course.

Anyway I ordered on 20th.Cancelled and changed order again on 20th evening. Expected shipping was 6/6. Got an email today that it has been shipped through puralator. It is in transit in US. Would be sweet if I get it tomorrow.

Edit: Grr it is ground shipping. Wonder how many days it is going to take

 

I wouldn't call it bargaining; it's not like we were haggling over price or anything.

Where are you? The way Dell has traditionally done things, for 10+ years, is that they ship everything to their Oakville facility (my first Dell order, in 2000, I think they trucked a desktop machine up from Texas over a weekend; I'm not sure where desktops come from these days, and laptops used to come from Malaysia, maybe they still do), then Purolator picks it up there.

If you're in southern Ontario, then it doesn't matter that it's ground, probably. By the time Purolator gets it, it's a day away by ground...

That means absolutely nothing other than the fact that it hasn't entered Purolator's network yet.

Once Purolator actually picks it up (most likely in Oakville, unless things have changed), it'll most likely get to you the next day.

Now if only MY laptop was on the way...

Nope, it was the standard ground shipping (5-7 days).

I did put in a call to Dell on Monday inquiring why my laptop had been sitting "ready to ship" for two days. No idea if it helped at all but it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

 

socialweeble, have you tried tracking via FedEx? Use your order # as your reference # on FedEx.com and link it to the zip code where it is being delivered and it should pull up your tracking #. FedEx received shipping info on 5/22 for my laptop and it didn't ship until 5/24 but I knew that the process had begun. Dell.com is slow to update order status especially when dealing with excited/anxious customers like me (and probably you ).

 

OK.... I did overnight an it still shows in production. Called Dell to check status yesterday and today. I think they said they will put traking on it or something to let me know its progress in more detail (a bit of a language barrier) and it made me feel much better like I did something or something . You did give me hope though. I will just keep my fingers crossed. Thanks.

 

Not sure how to link it to the Zip code... But I have tried for both laptops. Ordered an Inspiron 15R on 5/21 and recieved it 5/24 and fedex would not pull it up with the order number. So with the XPS I need to tag zip with it. Do I need to log into fedex to do that? BTW the Inspiron 15R is still showing shipped on Dell.com.. O well I have it now. Thanks for your help.

Slothzilla, Thanks for the link and your help. I tried it for both the recieved lap and the XPS with no success. I did use the tracking number off the received laptop and I do get all of its info just fine. For some reson no luck using the dell order #'s. I am just impatient. I will just have to wait and see what happens. Tonight I will try the dell #'s again using you instructions and see what haps. Thanks..

Just picked up a l502x off of dell outlet today.

Was on the fence and was considering the xps 15z/xps l502x/hp dv6t QE/clevo variants...but I bit and found a good build w/ a $150 coupon.

Can't wait to get it and switch out to SSD and OC the GT525m.

 

My order status says estimated delivery 20th June, hoping I would get it before that. Can't wait.

 

Got confirmation today for 07th/june delivery. That's only a week and a half wait. Cool. Wonder if they'll deliver???

Well mine shipped yesterday 31st, and estimated delivery date is 3rd June. From the UPS tracking web page, it appears to be going on a world tour. It's been to China, Korea and Kazakhstan so far.

 

Surprise surprise. Got a call today saying it's stuck at customs. Looks like I'll have to wait till next week. At least it's in the country.

 

... then on to Poland, Germany, and finally made it to me today. Just starting to install stuff on it. Looks like a load of junk needs to be uninstalled first.

 

Just receive mine today......got a refurb with everything I wanted...well almost everything...no bluray burner...just a reader but close enough......cosmetically looks perfect....no scratches or scuffs anywhere.....wont have time to boot it up until I get home from work tonight!!

My order status changed from work in progress estimated 20th of june to, shipped from factory, now estimated delivery is on the 14th of june, I might get it earlier though, lets hope so.

 

Just got a call from the Delivery company, my laptop will be delivered on the 9th which is this Thursday, way better then the first estimated delivery date of 20th of june.

May I know how you got the price 906.5 for this configuration..for almost the same configuration, I am getting it for $1200.

 

eesmav, the $906.05 is just what copied from the order. I ordered the XPS 15 $1099.99 package, less a $100 coupon from Techbargains.com, plus a U2311H 23IN Flat Panel Display, then I had 3% off for using my Dell Preferred account, and a shipping coupon.

I added the following to the XPS 15:

Additional year adding (1 year to 2 years) McAfee Security Center - $15

Total additions = $115

Got a call from Dell yesterday, said order was complete and would be shipped soon but it's still in production online.

 

GUYS!!! XPS 15 is really really bad... I only used mine for 3 hours and it died, some problem with the motherboard or something... there's no fixing it, have to return or replace.... cheap doesn't mean quality I guess..

 

My XPS 15 (L502X) is on its way this morning.

You might have had a first bad experience with the laptop, it doesnt meen its really bad, just get a replacement and hopefully this time everything will turn out well for you.
