Same here, but the driver claimed he attempted the delivery at 1pm but I did not even hear any door bell/knock, no attempt notice left either, strange. Gotta wait for tomorrow I guess.
The order was placed on 6-7 and it was shipped 6-12. This is a replacement unit but it's built from scratch, the guy said he would put the production on priority so maybe that's why it finished production so fast.

I've had mine for about a week now. All is good. Put in Agility3 120Gb ssd and runs quite fast. I have a studio 15 also and the xps screen(fullhd) is so much better. The studio screen look pixelated in comparision.

I ordered my new xps 15 on 6/10 it's out for delivery today. Way faster than my first xps 15 order.

Did I get a good deal on a XPS15? I'm gonna be paying $1545 (includes tax + s&h). Is there anything else I should add/change?

Don't get that "speaker upgrade" thing. It doesn't actually do much.
Also why is the price so high? Base off of the $1099 model (assuming you're buying from USA.) -

If you haven't pulled the trigger, try to knock off $100 more.. -

Placed my order from Dell UK on 29/06/11
with a EDD of 13/07/11
updated with planned delivery 04/07/11
received on 04/07/11 10:30am
pretty happy with that =] -
Bought yesterday, (July 7th) from the outlet. Don't have the exact stuff on hand, but here's the features from memory.
Intel Core i7-2720QM
6GB DDR3 1333mghz (2 DIMMS)
640GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD
GF 525M 1GB
TEh EPIC SCREEN1080P FHD 1920x1080 with 2mp webcam.
DVD reader/writer(I WOULDA got the bluray if they had one with it for cheap. But I don't own any blurays or an HDTV haha)
6 Cell
Some crappy software I'll get rid of.
1 year hardware (gonna get a square trade to back it up)
Rang up $793 with taxes.
Expected before the 13th, but I'll be outta town 11th til the 17th. So I gotta trust my family to LOOK BUT NOT TOUCH. -
@Coke how did you get those specs for $793? I bought with similar configs and it came up to ~$1300
EDIT: nvm, didn't see the outlet keyword. Hmm, if it's that cheap maybe I should reorder.... -
I placed my order and received an email saying Dell Order Has Been Confirmed. Is it normal that order status says canceled on the dell website?
-
If not, that its definitely unusual. Call and find out whats going on. -
I didn't, I mailed them and they told me something about fraud verification and I need to call them for card verification because i'm using a international card i believe!!!!! I still don't know how to call the number they gave me...

My laptop was ordered on 6/26 and arrived on 7/6.
i had a few issues to resolve when I got it but it wasn't too bad. It's a great machine so far.
Here are the problems I encountered.
1. The laptop wouldn't boot when I got it. After a 30 minute diagnostic call with Dell, I removed and reinstalled the memory. It booted fine after that.
2. The roxio software stalled me at the welcome screen for 30 seconds. I disabled the roxio disk watcher and then the delay went away.
3. The 6230 wifi is finicky. I disabled wireless N and it's rock solid. Perhaps a future driver will fix the issue. -

I just ordered my XPS 15 on Sunday night/Monday morning.
Date of order: July 11 ~0100EST
EDD: July 26
Status: In Production, since July 11
Here's my specs: i7 2630, 8GB DDR3, 750 HDD, Standard screen, centrino 6230+bluetooth 3.0, GT540M, XFi, Lojack, lowest Windows 7
I'm a student and got a good discount and a free Xbox 360 S thrown in (arrived 6/12). I got Lojack just in case, being in College with a high end (for me) laptop. I'm wondering, per my configuration, are any of these options likely to slow down the whole process? 15 days seems kind of much considering I have 5-7 day delivery. I also wonder about regional issues, as many of you have had transcontinental shipping occur for your orders. It's all just fascinating, I'm glad this thread is here to chronicle the order (in)consistency. -
If you had come to this forum before you ordered, people would tell you:
- Prioritize the screen upgrade first, it makes the most difference
- Upgrading the GPU to the 540M shouldn't be a priority because it only makes a 13% difference. Still worth considering because you can't upgrade it later, but the screen is more important.
- If you want an i7-2630QM, and you're buying from the US, base off of the $1099 basemodel, that way the 1080p screen comes included.
To be honest, this laptop is a waste of money if you don't get the 1080p screen. -
With regards to the base model, I only had one option being a student, where I could get the XPS in non-Z trim. I was only allowed the 750GB hdd or SSD, only choice of i7 processors, and had to have 8GB ram. 1080p was $150 on top of the base price I believe. Is the lower screen really *that* bad and do I have time still to change up? The price was a big issue for me, is it bad for 720p or bad because it's 720p? I'm not a huge graphics/oohshiny guy anyway, I'm satisfied with my 32" 1360x768 tv and quite satisfied with my 19" 1440x900 lcd monitor(Dell), so I'm not sure it will be a big problem for me at that resolution. How do I tell if it's the LG panel(assuming that's a 720p screen as well)? The part number on my order is 320-1672 and says 15.6HD TLF WLED LCD L50xX. Of course I want the best deal but I'm trying to justify every upgrade, this has to last me at (the very) least 3 years.
-
And it's bad for a 720p screen too. It's one of the worst quality screens currently being sold. It's the AUO B156XW02 LCD panel, and it's worse quality than the screens in most budget-class laptops. The colors are washed out, the viewing angles are terrible, and it is devoid of contrast. Basically any other 1366x768 screen (even the ones used in Inspirons) will be better than this one.
Even if your TV is 720p, I'm sure the quality is at least decent. The quality of the XPS 15's 720p screen is flat out unacceptable. Sometimes people get lucky and get a better quality (but still not very good) 720p screen made by LG or Samsung, but a lot of people are getting the AUO screen, and there's a high chance you will get the AUO screen.
Dell basically took the worst quality 720p screen and the best quality 1080p screen they could find. This is the reason the upgrade costs so much, it's because the difference is really that big. To be honest, it's kind of a waste of money to buy this laptop with the 720p screen.
If you're going to change your order, you have to call a rep as soon as you can. Otherwise you'll have to send it back when you get it, in exchange for credit to order a new one, preferably without opening the box. If they tell you it's not possible to cancel, hang up and call a new rep, because as long as the laptop hasn't shipped then it should be possible to cancel.
Here are some pictures of the 720p screen compared to a TV:

Hmm. Those pictures do look poor, I wish I could see it in person. I called someone who said it was too late to modify the order, I would have to cancel it and reorder if I wanted the better screen. The problem is, I think there will be problems regarding the promotion I participated in. I'd really like to keep my free 360 and have my student discount. I also used a 0% fnancing promotion which I'd like to keep as well. I'm just worried I won't get those promotions or will have to pay the difference because the promotions are over. I guess I'll have to call the Samaritans at Dell and see if they'll let me redo the order, keep my financing and 360 and give me the student discount as well. Ugh this is such a pain.
-
First try to get another quote including your promotion, but plus the 1920x1080 B+RGLED display, then if you get that secured cancel and re-order with your new quote.
-
Does anyone know if Dell ships with the Saturday delivery option for the 2 Day shipping service from FedEx? Sorry if this has been asked before - I couldn't hold the excitement
EDIT: And it looks like a negativeI just wasted $20 on the 2Day service; I live in Cali so it wouldn't have taken more time to get to me if I used the regular shipping.
-
*Update*
Date of Purchase- July 11
EDD- updated to July 19 from July 26
Status shipped, at FedEx in Chicago (why it takes 3 business days to travel 2 hours I don't know)
Right after I called about possibly modifying the order they updated the online status to say shipped. Now it's too late to cancel I guess (doubtful I could have gotten as good a deal anyway who knows). If I'm dissatisfied with the screen I may just do one of the screen/ribbon cable swaps later from Taiwan etc, I hate dealing with returns and this already has been one of the more frustrating pc buying experiences I've had. I hope the hardware is worth it. -
Well, it's here! 10 days early from Dell's original estimate. I don't have any problem with the screen at this point, it's no where near as bad as those pictures. The color isn't amazing and the resolution is small but it is definitely tolerable and good enough for now. I have issues with high contrast/light anyway, I have to turn down the brightness (especially for games). I think I got lucky and got the good screen of the 768s or maybe they stopped using the far inferior screen. I'm not sending it back for how it is, but I'm not shutting out the possibility of an upgrade in the future. After the hype I expected the screen to be nigh on unacceptable and that simply isn't the case with what I have here. I hope future purchasers of the low res screen have similar good fortune.
-
Hooray! My 1080p XPS 15 arrived yesterday and right now is the first chance I actually have to play with it! Right now, I'm creating my System Recovery Discs thru Dell DataSafe and after that, I'm gonna wipe it clean and do a fresh install.
I also watched a blu-ray for a bit, streamed some stuff on YouTube, and viewed my photos on deviantART and I have not had any problems yet. I really like my XPS 15 more than the 17 I originally ordered. The speakers sound a bit nicer on this laptop also... -
