So usb 2.0 is just standard usb. Sadly since it says 1920x1080 you would likely be limited to that on the monitor so it won't look exactly perfect. You are welcome to post links and we can try to help you, just make sure it's a safe site please.

Hi there. Okay so if on the website, they say this product is 1920 x 1080, that means whichever monitor i connect to... max resolution is 1920 x 1080 right? But my other monitor would have 1920 x 1200 as im using hdmi to hdmi on that monitor right?
The other thing is this. Apparently i spoke to the person who sells this and he says this usb c to hdmi is a female one. And because of that, i have to buy another hdmi cable to connect it. I read about this recently. So basically this isn't a 2 in 1 where buying it is good enough but i also need another hdmi cable?
Okay i will post links of site where i could buy from here that sells it and see if you guys could tell me if it would work for my monitors. -

Search eBay for ”usb-c to hdmi cable” and you get plenty of options.
Best solution would be if your monitors can accept DisplayPort and one of them can support DisplayPort 1.2, then you can Daisy chain.

hi thanks for the response.
This is the site i use here to buy electronics
Usb C Hdmi - ArtÃ*culos de Computacin en Mercado Libre México[A:usb-c-hdmi]
Can someone here tell me which ones would work? I have ordered from this site before... its like ebay. I will obviously ask the seller questions as i asked a few of them already. But can someone tell me which is the one im looking for here?
Adata Cable Adaptador Usb-c A Hdmi Usb 3.1 Consolas Full Hd - $ 699.00 en Mercado Libre
Adaptador Usb C (tipo C) A Hdmi + Usb A + Usb C Solo Mac - $ 509.00 en Mercado Libre
Adaptador Usb Tipo C A Hdmi Mac, Smartphone, Celular - $ 340.00 en Mercado Libre
This one below i thought would work because it looks like the one you guys posted from amazon. But when i did the translation using google translator, it says its not compatible with thunderbolt. Thus this one doesn't work right?
Cable Usb Tipo C A Hdmi Seafon - $ 290.00 en Mercado Libre -
Hi there. I can't order it from ebay because im not in the us now. If i was, i would just buy it off amazon and get it for like under 25 dollars. -
Hi there. Are you 100 percent sure if it says up to 1920x1080 resolution, that is it? In another forum, someone says thats not true, you could always change the resolution to whatever resolution is your monitor. Thus this is important because 1920 x 1200 vs 1920 x 1080 is a huge thing for me in what i do. I need 1920 x 1200 resolution.
Okay so basically anyone of these cables that doesn't have the hdmi cable connected to the other half... thus if its not a 2 in 1 is hdmi female? But the one you posted which is basically just plug it into the port on my laptop and other port on my monitor, thats hdmi male and thus doesn't need any other parts? If that is the case, why are there hdmi female in the first place? Makes no sense here. -

I can't tell you for sure that it will run 1920x1200 so I'm going to go based on what the manufacturer says. You can take the chance to see if it does 1920x1200.
Adapters that are not cables are useful if someone has their own cable, wants to run a longer cable, wants to switch cables, etc. I think you're over complicating things. -
The first 3 you list are all adapters, these need additional cable.
I would buy the last one:
https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-617874808-cable-usb-tipo-c-a-hdmi-seafon-_JM
USB-c, USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 are using the same connection and are in most case to be considered the same.
You can buy from eBay not only from US, just use the local version but sometimes the offers are limited (most stuff are from US or China) and import fees may apply.

Members,
I recently made a post about a real dilemma with Dell's Support site under Drivers & downloads and for whatever it's worth I now also sent them an email (See Below) referencing such for a very hopeful change.
Regards,
SDeP58
RE: "VERY POOR"
To Whom It May Concern,
Whoever was responsible for designing, configuring and or more importantly changing Dell’s Support site under “Drivers and downloads” obviously fell asleep doing such, as it makes absolutely no sense at all and whatsoever?
Why would you categorically list the drivers with a column for “Last Updated” and ridiculously keep changing the drivers under the category to the present & current date, when in fact the “Release Date” is usually always earlier in time and the diver(s) are NEVER actually updated at all since?
Somebody really & greatly needs to get back to the drawing board and make the site where it holds true validity and is worth bookmarking & visiting because as of right now, it’s just truly a complete waste of mine & everyone’s time, and until it’s rectified, with hopefully common sense leading the way & change, I have absolutely no intentions of re-visiting the useless site anytime soon with probably many right behind me as well.
Thank you for your precious time & very hopeful consideration,
The XPS’s & Dell consumer(s)samastrike and PhilTheHill like this. -
It seems to me that you failed to bring over the point that the driver update list needs to have the removed column 'Release date' back. Not directly mentioned and hidden behind too much confusing complaints. This mail will just go to their trash bin.
If you want this column back you need to do a public survey or similar in their forums. Let the users vote for it and generate public pressure.
But I doubt this is coming back, as the change seems intentional to cover their sloppy and delayed release dates for updated drivers. -
You could be right about my email going directly in the trash bin yet my late dad taught me something that I carry & use with me in life and that's, "if everyone says it can't be done then it never will be done" Someone has to step out and lead the way and I decided to do such.
Case-in-point, I refuse to take this credit yet when I seen the so-called Google Doodles memorializing Cartoons, Special Days and the likes and sadly had absolutely NOTHING for the victims of the Disaster of 9/11 I wrote to their Corporate Headquarters expressing my great feelings of why that very Tragic Day was not recognized, and call it coincidence or not, yet the following year and since Google gave and is thankfully given them recognition. It's not a BIG Doodle like they do for others yet it's at least something.
What I see in this life is Too many individuals playing Tuesday morning armchair quarterback yet never physically being in the Game!!!
EVERYONE knows where the ball shouldn't or should've been thrown after the Final Score!!!
Your public survey idea I think is GREAT so how about you start it up and not only I yet I'm sure many will definitely join you?
FYI - Since my email 2 Technical Support Supervisors have responded to me saying that my email was taken seriously and has been forwarded to the proper channels.
In closing, Yes it may not yield anything wanted or positive yet at least I tried and a beginning has to start somewhere!!!

SD is right on the mark. Though you guys don't troll looking for it, you deserve a kudos as you all are an invaluable resource to us average joes who are just trying ot maximize the utility of our Dell machines and avoid the pitfalls that force us to waste our hard earned money.
I would have been truly screwed if I hadn't stumbled across this lounge.
BTW, since the new models are slowly taking the focus away from this lounge, I'd like to finally waste some space to say that if I ever, ever find the guy that designed the 9550 power supply with that dopey slanted connection that forces the cable to wind up on itself every time you move it, I will definately give him\her what for.SDeP58, pressing and custom90gt like this. -
Hey all got a question. A while back i bought a new battery for my laptop xps 15 9550 from ebay. I contacted dell and they told me they had the battery but not new. Thus it was refurbished which i was not going to buy. The issue first came when i got the battery, i brought it to computer shop for them to install it because i don't want to try to open laptop myself as im not tech savy. That person told me i bought the wrong battery because it was way too long. So apparently there were 2 types of batteries and the one i needed was the shorter one. So i returned that battery and bought the correct battery and brought it to the computer shop. Now this guy is pretty smart with computers... but the thing was when he put the battery in... my computer did turn on. He said he never seen anything like this. He then took the new battery out and put the old battery in and the laptop would not turn on. This bothered me a lot because i did not backup anything on my laptop. He then put my ssd into his desktop computer to test if my hard drive worked and it did. But when he plugged it back into the laptop, it did not turn on. There was a message i recalled that said didn't recognize hard drive etc on my laptop i recalled. But it did recognize on his desktop. Then after a bit, suddenly the laptop did recognize the hard drive and then laptop did power on and worked fine.
Has anyone who replaced the dell xps 15 9550 battery themselves or went to repair shop ever had this issue? The guy who replaced the battery for me told me he never seen anything like this before.
I ask this because my laptop which is 6300hq processor and has ssd... well the ram i have is 8gb. Im thinking about going up to 16gb. But if i do this, i will not try to open laptop myself and do this. But for most of you, is it pretty easy? I do not want to risk damaging my computer which is why anytime something needs to be done inside, i always go to repair shop and have the guy do it which cost money. But from what i saw with him replacing the battery and that happening, i assume definitely go to him to have ram changed right? The other thing is i know the 8gb ram i have is 4gb stick each. So i should definitely not just buy one 8gb stick and use 12gb of ram total right? Thus one 4gb ram and one 8gb ram as that could potentially cause issues with the laptop? Because when my laptop didn't recognize hard drive last time when he replaced the laptop battery, i thought that was not good. Also has anyone here upgraded the ram from 8gb to 12gb or 16gb and notice their computer is a lot faster? I have lot of chrome tabs opened so i figure upgrading ram should be a good idea? -
Changing battery is rather easy if you are comfortable with computer hardware. Most critical is to not strip the screws when open/tighten.
When I replaced my battery I find a few loose screws, this could have created severe damage so I think I was lucky to this when I did. I also found a great lot of dust, especially around the fans.
So every time you open your laptop take a moment to clean it and check that all screws are tight and that there a no missing screws, you have to find those!
What could have been your case is that some of the very small connectors could have been disconnected slightly. There has been several posts above SSD’s and memories not being seated 100% perfect resulting in what you describe.
Computer, or memory, goes faster when you have two identical units. Then they are used in parallel. The same goes with larger SSD drives, these are also faster because the internal memory can be used in parallel.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
@Drew1 - Sounds like the HDD connection isn't great, I have seen it with the M2 drives where they can be "installed" but not seated 100% correctly and exhibit similar errors. It may be that the connector got bumped during the battery installed and needed to be re-connected (firmly) for it to start working again?
-
Drew1, I'm not even going to try and answer your first question as both members jasell & Schmoo2k graciously did. I will just add, if this guy/tech, that you hold in such high regard, claims he never seen what happened to your unit with being in the computer repair business, I would personally run the other way and find someone else, as this has to probably be the number 1 scenario that happens to most individuals after opening up a computer or any electronic device. Finally, don't tell or show ANYONE that you don't know ANYTHING about your computer, car, appliances and etc., or they will take you straight to their Ca$h-regi$ter if you hopefully follow me.
Crazy things occur out of the supposedly norm when it comes to computers, electronics and etc., so just don't ASSUME your unit has (2) 4GB ram sticks and not just (1) 8GB stick with one slot opened and physically make sure what it has before purchasing ANYTHING.
Personally i firmly believe that the best learning experiences & knowledge come from OJT (On-the-job-training) and you should reward yourself along with building yourself some obviously much needed self-confidence by getting the correct tools and carefully opening up your unit and see for yourself.
Like member jasell said, it's very simple to do just make sure you don't play Hercules with the screws and you will be just fine along with Beaming with needed CONFIDENCE as well.
As far as physically seeing how much memory of your 8GB your using with your tasks. Right click on the Windows icon and choose Task Manager and then choose the Performance tab. There you can see how much memory is in use and how much is available. If there's very little remaining than I would say, a memory upgrade would benefit you.
Best of Luck,
SDeP58
PS - Now I need to get cracking with some OJT and learn how to do multiple quotes inside a post.

Drew1,
One of the reason why we stick with Dell is that it is usually easy to find service manuals for their units which using pictures usually shows a step by step view of how to do many of the basic things like replacing batteries, memory, HDD, etc. Also, Youtube usually has a good video you can follow to do these things.
Every time we upgrade as we did a couple of years ago to our 9550's, I would then work at upgrading the old unit knowning that if I screw up (which I have far too often) I wasn't risking my main device thereby gaining the necessary experience so that we wouldn't have to rely on expensive alternatives.
Places like here we come to for more advanced problems and peformance tweaks, not to mention uncovering lies that Dell often tells. -
Well i recalled when he did this, some screws came out but he did put them where they were suppose to be. -
Hi there. Well this guy i have went to several times already to have battery changed for other laptops etc. He does seem to know what he is doing. I get what you mean about don't let anyone know you know nothing about it. But this guy is pretty honest. The other thing is he charges a lot less than other places do. For example how much would you say a place should charge to open your laptop and replace the battery? Or open it up and replace the ram.
My computer does have two 4gb rams. He told me this as well when he opened it when i asked him about it.
Yes i know about task manager. Its usually using at least 77 percent memory. But most of the time its 80 percent or more. The thing is i have a ton of chrome tabs opened though.. many of these tabs i dont look at daily but i just have it there when i look at it. People said thats why im using so much ram. Also im curious but i get message on dell laptop that say use microsoft edge so i get more battery. Is this true or not? I use chrome. -
I saw the video to do this for my laptop. Well im not sure if it was exact model or not... but the video i saw... that guy seem to have trouble opening laptop and replacing the battery etc. Thus it was not easy just from looking at the video as that person in video said its not that easy even for him.

Chrome is the most powerful browser, it has the most rich executions. Other browse sometimes “cheat” and do not show all features that the page has to offer, this way they also may save battery, or they emulate the code and run slower, which draw more battery and sometimes gives a lesser experience.
There are quite many different ways to program a web page, languages and libraries, to use. As web-pages become richer there is now a trend to design webpages to push more of the execution to the client (browser).
The execution of these vary across browser, some need to be emulated on some browser which makes them run slower or with less animations etc (heavier=more battery) or will not run at all.
I’m sure you can find the ideal web-page for each browser to be “the best”.
In my business we are for the moment limited to only support Chrome since it is by far the most powerful.
So it depends what you want, battery lean or full experience.
You could use bookmarks for those rare pages, there is no real need to have them open all the time just so that you could easily go back to them. It must be hard to navigate across all the tabs, seem easier to me to organize your bookmarks in some smart structure.
Or you buy more memory and don’t need to bother...

Chrome runs great with 32gb ram. It used to use 8 or more gb, not sure how it is on the new version yet.

Hi Drew1,
If you feel this tech that you go to is being totally honest with you then that's all that matters as trust is definitely a must in EVERYTHING & EVERYONE.
It's real hard to say what exactly a licensed & hopefully insured service tech should charge for certain hardware & software repairs, installations and etc., as a 10min job could sometimes take 1hr and 1hr job could sometimes take 10 minutes, as everyone is individualized.
I say go by the average hourly labor rate, by shopping it, which you apparently did and if he's right around there or at times even lower and occasionally tells you No Charge for something you expected to pay for then CONGRATULATIONS, as you found someone that we ALL at one time or another look for when we either don't know or feel comfortable doing.
In the end, Trust is a Must.
I wish I could give you insight on the ins & outs of all the available browsers yet I just use Firefox and have for a long time as I thankfully have never been hurt doing so, with particular security add-ons, and it always does what I need.
For me and IMO, I did try Edge for a quick bit yet I just don't trust Microsoft's browsers and especially Edge even though it beats it's predecessors hands down, as it's always pushed on you and I just don't feel comfortable or secure using it.
I really have to agree with member jasell in that, what are you doing that you need so many tabs opened at one time?
If you are using 80% of your available memory in your everyday tasks and you need to have endless tabs opened in Chrome then I would say, at least step your memory up to 16GB or better yet Bite-the-Bullet and follow member GoNz0's gracious advice and max it out to the full 32GB especially if you plan on keeping your unit, as you will then be all Future-proofed for your needs.
Great, now that you know what's inside your unit you now know what to get.
Regards,
SDeP58
PS - Don't forget to Reward the ones that take their personal time to help you and PLEASE not just me yet EVERYONE!!!

There's usually more than one video, so perhaps you didn't see a good enough version. I'm not exaclty a pro and I have found it easy to work on my 9550 for the basic things like batteries and memory. The small screws are an issue which means you just have to be careful and take your time.
In any event, you have to do what's easiest for you so good luck. -
Hi there. Is your dell xps 9550 the same as mine though? My processor is i5 hq 6300 but still a quad core. I know there is an i7 hq as well for this version. But i think there are 2 version of this laptop for my model. Do you know if that one has the longer battery? Mine is shorter battery. But i think they made a dell xps 15 9550 for 2 different years? So theres many different versions of it. Also how many versions of the xps9550 are there? Because when i bought the battery online from ebay... only way to get it new because did did not have any new in stock... the place i bought my laptop to and battery said i bought wrong battery etc. Like how many versions are there of it. Like i know there is the dell xps 9560 as well but how many different ones?
Also can someone here find me a video of this on how to open up the xps 15 9550 to install the new ram? And in terms of easy/hardness, would you say its pretty simple for someone that is not tech savy to do this? The thing that worries me is i open up laptop and then jam the ram and then damage it somehow because im not sure how to place it correctly etc. I would have to pay im guessing like 50 dollars to have the guy do it.
Is this the 16gb ram that is recommended for the dell xps 15 9550? I saw in the reviews when i type in xps 9550 in keyboard, ppl said this works. And would i get dual rank or single rank. I would be getting 2 sticks of 8gb each as my laptop is 2 sticks of 4gb each.

Drew1, for the first part of your question: http://bfy.tw/JsZR
Regarding the RAM upgrade: I would recommand Crucial SO-DIMM Kit DDR4-2400, the XPS is reported to be a bit critical withe various RAM modules. Anyhow, you shold get a kit (two modules = 2 x 8GB).
Honestly, reading your posts, I would not recommend to make any changes on your Dell as I am not shure if you would recognise any difference as an unexperienced user.
The XPS 15 9550 came with two different batteries. A short one for those models equipped with an hybrid Harddrive (M2 SSD and 1TB HD) an a longer (higher capacity) battery for the models with M2 SSDs only.Last edited: Sep 13, 2018SDeP58 likes this. -

I just wanted to give this a try as I never find myself needing to do this. I just ran the newest version of Firefox 61.0.2 with over 30 tabs opened containing a lot of graphics and some background videos, along with MS Outlook & MS Word 2010, and resource monitor read, out of my installed 16GB of memory it was give or take right down the middle with 8GB used and 8GB available.

Hey all would like advice on this as i'm freaking out.
I turned on my dell xps today and when i do, i get that dell logo and then nothing happens, it stays on that logo. I then powered it off and turned it on again few times... same thing, does not load. I have had this happen few times but when it does, it is just one time and then i power it off and power it on and it works.
Can someone please tell me what i can do here? I'm freaking out right now because i have lot of things on this laptop and i didn't back it up. If it does show the dell logo and power on, does that mean there is a solution to this? -
Before it gets to the Dell logo keep tapping on the F12 key and then run the diagnostic choice and see what the results are.
If it passes everything, try holding down the power button for about 30 seconds and then try to restart the computer.
If that doesn't work then guess what, you need to disconnect the battery inside the unit and then try powering it back up.
Finally and for your very much needed information, Always back up your important files & data as these are electronics with micro internal parts & hardware that can go at anytime.Last edited: Sep 19, 2018 -
Hi there. I waited for a while and then unplugged any usb that is connected to it such as a usb port hub and my wireless mouse hub. Then i powered it on again and now it finally loads.
Do you know why this happens? I had this laptop for a bit under 2 years. I started having this problem a bit 1 year into it but it was rare. Such as i would see the dell logo and it stays there... but then i just power it off and power it on again. But everytime i power it off and power it on, it worked. But i say about last year or so, i started seeing this problem happen more frequently but it was like once or twice a month etc. But i was not that concerned because it would power on each time after i power it off.
Okay what you suggested, if this happens again, i press the f12 and run the diagnostic. So when i get that, what should i see on the screen and what do i do afterward it? Do you want me to take a picture of it with my phone or just tell you what shows on the screen. You say if it passes everything, what would the screen show if it does, and what would it show if it doesn't.
Also do you know why i'm got this dell logo and not starting? I googled it and from what i read, its a hardware issue?
The thing is last time when i went to the computer shop to replace to have the guy replace my battery, he had an issue where after he installed the battery, the computer did not even turn on and had this message. I think the message was the hard drive was not recognized i believe but not sure 100 percent. He then took my ssd hard drive and put it on his desktop and it did recognize it. He then put my ssd hard drive back into my dell xps 15 9550 and it still didn't recognize. He checked to see if hard drive and battery was in place and it was. But then later on for some reason, finally the laptop worked instead of having this screen which showed lot of words. I recalled screen was black but there were lot of words in white characters etc. I believe it said it didn't recognize the hard drive... does anyone know what error this would be?
So should i be more concerned now because of this? Previously when this happened, it freaked me out but not much because everytime this happened, a power off and power on turned it back on. Back i believe i had powered off and powered it on about 7 times here before it finally turned on. Should i go to a repair shop and have them take a look to see if anything is wrong inside? -
When i say hardware issue, i read that it could be faulty hard drive is what i read. But i also read it could be because battery or ram is not put on correctly
-
Drew1,
I have said this before to you and I will say it again, and in a very sincere way, yet do you take or better yet, need to take tranquilizers, as you seem like a really great & caring individual yet you just FREAK out way too much at least when it comes to your computer?
Relax it's not the end of your world as long as you have yourself properly backed up with everything you need you have to expect these delicate electronics to fail at one time or another.
Now if you can just keep your posts to the maximum of 3 questions people can try and answer them yet when you make one post with endless questions where honestly does one start other then the very long beginning, which I honestly don't believe everyone has that kind of free time, which I hope you can understand and appreciate.
OK, so from what you're describing it appears that the computer got hung up trying to recognize your USB hub so just make sure you have your USB ports updated to the latest drivers.
If so, try re-installing the hub then shut down the computer and turn it back on and see if it does it again yet Not and I repeat Not until you backup all your necessary files & data.
No you don't have to immediately run back to your trusty technician for this as you first need to determine if it's an internal or external issue and I'm going with the generic latter.
I also believe your previous issue with the battery installation & unrecognizable hard-drive was graciously answered by some great members in that it was probably just a loose connection that was corrected upon reinsertion back into your unit. -
Drew1,
Your F12 option screen will look something like this: (See Below)
Also do you know why i'm got this dell logo and not starting? I googled it and from what i read, its a hardware issue?
Like I said, it's probably your generic USB Hub, which you can easily troubleshoot yourself, and that is "hardware" yet external hardware.
-
HI there. What do you mean my generic usb hub? So you want me to turn it off and then turn back on with usb connected to it unplugged? Then when computer turns on, plug both them back in? I have a 4 port usb hub connected to one port and a wireless mouse usb connected to the other. I do not think this is the reason... i just thought about it when i turned it on a 7th time and it did power on.
How do i reinstall my usb hub? I have 2 of them. -
By generic I mean, not genuine, as I'm only assuming your USB hub is not a Dell and instead by another manufacturer?
No I don't want you to turn off your USB hub I want you to completely remove it from the units USB port and then try restarting the computer and see if it hangs up at the Dell logo. If it does not then do it a few good times more and if all is well then reconnect your USB hub and then try restarting the computer and see what happens. If again all is well try restarting the computer a few more good times and see.
Do the exact same thing with the USB wireless mouse if you don't run into any issue with the USB hub procedure, yet remember what I said previously, Not before you backup all your necessary & needed information as you always want to be prepared for anything that may fail.
You shouldn't have to restart your computer 7+ times before it boots up correctly as something isn't right so follow what I said above.
You reinstall your USB hub by simply plugging it back into the USB port and Windows should recognize it. -
We use short, USB-C to USB 3.0 adpaters. If we leave the adapter plugged in when we shut down, the machine won't shut down at all. If we take it out before hand, it will.
We'll try booting up with it in to see what happens.
Follow up:
With the adapter plugged in on boot up, the machine freezes momentarily at the Dell logo rather than proceeding directly to booting.
Eventually it does boot.Last edited: Sep 20, 2018 -
Are these thunderbolt docks? If so I found the latest thunderbolt drivers + bios fixed an issue where the laptop would not clean shutdown while my eGPU was plugged in.

Drew1 aka paulyjustin and whomever,
It definitely is pretty much a free world and you can go, join or interact anywhere you see fit, yet I think that it’s only fair that after you posted your issues & questions all over the internet e.g. windowsphoneinfo.com, tenforum.com and etc. and under whomever that everyone that takes their precious time to try and resolve your dilemmas should be entitled to not only redeeming whatever’s yet more importantly at least an acknowledgement back, when your issues are ultimately resolved, and not just left in complete limbo as you unbelievably do.
In case you’re unaware, others may be running into the same issues and obstacles as you and if you did & do find a resolution to them you should graciously let the others know as well, which I think is only right & fair.

By chance and just a wild guess, does that adapter of yours show up in F2 selection under boot sequence?
