> Is that a laptop limitation ?
Yes, it is known to be very picky regarding USB PD.

What picky means
60w accepted or only 130w from Dell ?
No 100w supported in between..

130W only by Dell docks (above standard); mixed reports regarding the Dell 130W PD charger
60W mostly accepted, some not
45W mostly not except from Dell and 1 other

I have both dell dock and dell USB C 130w charger. I can check in the evening what bios shows for that.

I noticed the AX200 only has 2 antenna plugs, compared to my current DW1830 wifi card which has 3 antenna plugs. Does this mean the AX200 won't have good range with only 2 of the 3 antennas plugged in? Or will it have the same range as my current DW1830? Or better?
-
I did not noticed any disadvantage after I started using the AX200.
My wifi Router is a ASUS RT-AX88U and I‘m able to work around our house within a radius of approx. 30-40 meter. The same range as with the previous AC WiFi Card. -
I see you have an AX router so you can take full advantage of the AX200. I have a 1Gbps connection but I'm still using an ASUS RT-AC68U, though I will upgrade to an AX router soon. With my current DW1830 and AC68U router, the fastest actual speed I can get is 480Mbps. This is whether link speed is 866Mbps or 1.3Gbps, fastest actual speed is still only 480Mbps. I'm wondering if I change to an AX200 and use the existing AC router whether I will see any actual speeds faster than 480Mbps?
Also, am I right in thinking if I get the AX200 and use it on AC, link speed will be 866Mbps max with only 2 antennas/streams 2x 433Mbps? -
You can use the AX200 with an AC Router, but don’t expect better speed. The AC Router is the bottleneck in this combination.
-
Understood.
As for range, what is the main factor that contributes to WiFi range in a notebook? Is it the actual physical WiFi card itself? Or the number of antennas? Or the antenna design? Or a combination of all? -
Well, it’s a combination of everything
Best results can be achieved if your router position is well chosen. You can have the best equipment, but poor connectivity if your router is bad positioned in your house, office or apartment. There is plenty of easy to read documentation in the web about this topic.pressing likes this. -

With a AX Router this won’t happen. As far as of my experiences so far. I had so much trouble with AC routers in the past. And I‘ve had many.
-
When you installed the AX200, I'm assuming you only connected the black and white antenna and left the grey antenna unplugged? Did you switch the black and white antenna so they matched up on the new card?
-
This is the way.
-
sumsum, did you had to tape PIN 54&55 on the card to enable Bluetooth?
According to some forums, users of an intel ax200 had to do so. I am just interested how it is with our Dell 9950. -
I‘m not aware to do something like that. BT worked out of the Box.Chang_loo likes this.
-
After testing a lot of different AC routers, it seems the AX200 max speed on AC is around 680Mbps. The original DW1830 3x3 card can achieve nearly 800Mbps on AC due to the extra antenna. My advice is if you don't have an AX router then stick to the 3x3 AC card.
I have however noticed the DW1830 gets very hot to touch compared the the AX200 which only gets warm to touch. Does anyone know if this is normal or not? -
The Dell 1830 was, in my case, a real troublemaker: When WiFi was active together with Bluetooth, my Bluetooth mouse lost connection. At the end of the discussion with the Dell guy in the forum, the story ended when they send me an Intel card.
@sumsum, good to hear that it works out of the box with our Dell 9550. -
"ASMedia USB eXtensible Host Controller Driver" driver was recently posted.
Is this for the dock? Or will it supplant current Microsoft 10.0.18362.900 driver?
I ask because the 9550 USB ports were always a bit wonky with some USB 3 devices. -
So it seems like my trackpad on my xps 9550 is raised up a bit on the left side... is this the battery swelling? I will post a picture soon.
But if you look at the left side of it, its slightly raised... previously it was not like this. I just notice this because i rarely if ever use the keyboard as i have the xps connected to 2 external monitors and a wired keyboard. -
Also how can i check my battery on my xps 9550? I still haven't gotten it replaced yet due to being out of the country and last time when i turned on my computer and 2 monitors connected to it and had forgot to connect the charger to it... the laptop literally turned off with 5 minutes so I know i should get a new battery.
-
I think you answered your own question. I got a battery off ebay to replace the swollen one in my 9550. If you are handy with electronics, it's an easy job. Just follow the PDF manual and go slow. If you're not, get help from someone who is..Vasudev likes this.
-
Do you have the link to the battery you bought off ebay? Is it 56wh or 84wh or 97wh? I was going to get it off either one specific seller on ebay but he doesn't sell the battery anymore so i was thinking about going with laptopbatteryexpress.
The thing is I won't be back to the US for another month at least so I cannot order the battery until then.
Is it safe using my laptop as it is though? I read someone mentioned it could be a safety hazard but then someone said dell said it absolutely isn't... and this is normal with their batteries. Would i be fine using the laptop as i do normally until then? I won't be able to get a new battery for at least a month until I go back to the US. The thing is im not sure when this battery swelling even happened as i rarely if ever touch my touchpad and it might been like this for weeks and I didn't notice. Also it isn't raised that badly... like compared to some pictures i see online with this battery swelling issue. Has anyone continued using their laptop with the battery swelling for months later and if so, was it still fine or could it cause damage? -
No, sorry, it's been a while so I don't know which vendor it was. I think all of those batteries probably come from the same place in China, but YMMV. You may be able to find a replacement in the country you're in.
I had the larger battery and replaced it with the smaller one so that I could add a 2.5" secondary drive.
Mine was very swollen. The keyboard was buckling too. I figured it was a safety issue. I think it's hydrogen gas.
Good luck! -
Hi thanks for that information. I'm surprised you wanted the smaller battery and add a 2.5' secondary drive... usually i would think most ppl want to do it the other way around... this is what i want to do since i have the smaller battery.
Were you using it by itself or connected to monitor? For me, i use it connected to 2 monitors and wired keyboard so i rarely even touch the laptop keyboard etc.
Anyone else had this issue? Could you use it for a while like this though? Well they have replacement battery from checking online where im located but issue is... its very expensive its like over 3x the amount here minimum because it would be shipping from the US to here, cant get it locally... but not only that... they dont have the 97wh one which i want. Again the thing is i want to get a new ssd as well because my 250gb 2.5' ssd is running out of space. I have a m.2 ssd as well there but its only 32gb ...it came with 2 ssds when i got it. And i also want to upgrade my ram from 8gb to 16gb so i figure i do all this when i get back to the US. But my concern is i saw the touchpad bulging outand I'm not sure how long it has been like this because i never paid attention to it.
Also how can i check my battery life? I know there is a way to do this with cmd etc... but i forgot how.
Okay i did a battery report test... it shows as of a few days ago
The full charge for active is 23 minutes and around 2h 45m at design capacity.
Current estimate of battery life based on all observed drains since os install
24:19 2h54h
That means my battery is basically worn out almost right? I had this battery for 2.5 years.
Design capacity 55997 mwh
Full charge capacity 7809 mwh.Last edited by a moderator: Aug 26, 2020 -
I also want to ask something else. If I go to a repair shop and have them remove my swollen battery for my xps 15 9550 but I do not have a replacement battery for it at the moment... could I still use my laptop though if I have it plugged into an outlet?
-
It should not be the problem.
-
Okay thanks. One other thing. Do you say its pretty easy to remove the 2.5 inch ssd and m.2 ssd and then put in the new 1tb or 500gb m.2 nvme ssd since im planning on getting the bigger battery 97wh or 84wh? I read you need to remove the 2.5 inch ssd bay... is that easy to do?
Would really like if someone who had the 56wh battery with the 2.5 inch ssd describe the process when they got the bigger battery 84wh or 97wh.. and got a bigger m.2 ssd and then removed both the
2.5 inch ssd and the m.2 ssd originally with it. Like is it easy removing the ssd bay as people call it? -
Hi there. The 97wh battery from laptopbatteryexpress is model 6GTPY. I spoke to them and they said that is not compatible with my xps 15 9550. So they are incorrect here?
You say the model of your 97wh battery is GPM03. So I would have to look for this exact model in the US if i want to get the 97wh battery? I need to order a new battery very soon and I really want the 97wh one as oppose to the 84wh one. I had thought by paying 10 dollars more on laptopbatteryexpress, I could get the 97wh one as oppose to 84wh one but they say its not compatible with the xps 15 9550. Do you or anyone else know if they are making a mistake with this?
Does the model 6GTPY 97wh work in a dell xps 15 9550? People said the 84wh 4GVGH does work with it and there is no issues with it. But anyone know about the 97wh 6GTPY? -
It seems that the model 6GTPY is for XPS 15 9560 -
Yes it does. I'm currently using one in my 9550.

Hi so you are saying that even though the model it showed on your 97wh battery is GPM03... then the one im looking at 6GTPY would still work? Is there a reason why its different model number then? -
Is it the same 97wh 6GTPY model?
-
Yes

Drew1, not to sound harsh, but you have been asking the same questions repeatedly for over a year now, here and various other sites. What will it take until you are satisfied with the answers we have given you? A quick Google search returned this thread from three years ago, which also seems to contain the information you are looking for. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/xps-9550-battery-upgrade.806559/
The XPS 9550 is five years old at this point. It will be unlikely to find a brand new original battery; or if you do, it will be around five years old already. I would suggest checking the return policy from the sites/sellers you mentioned and go with the one you’re most comfortable dealing with. If the battery works, great! If it doesn’t, return it.

Hey so just to confirm. The model of your 97wh battery is the same as mine or its different? Are you located in the US as well or somewhere else and what site did you buy the 97wh battery and how long ago? Sorry im getting confused because one person mentioned they use a 97wh and are located in new zealand but you are in the US?
-
Hey there. Thanks for that link... i never seen that thread before when viewing about the 97wh battery when googling. Well... i been meaning to get a new battery for a long time and keep putting things off... that is a bad habit of mine. And now i have to get one b/c my battery is basically worn out... before it wasn't worn out.
I looked at the thread and one person seem to mention it works. Someone else said it doesn't work though when they tried it but said it could be a fake battery.
Well i wanted to know if it is that part 6GTPY... works or not... such as those who used a 97wh and it worked or not work... is the exact model 6GTPY...
Well i am buying the battery from either of two places... laptopbatteryexpress or parts people which is official dell. I wanted to go with laptopbatteryexpress bc they sell the 97wh one... but their cs rep tell me it isnt compatible with the 9550.
Parts people only sell the smaller batttery which i dont want... and the regular size battery but not the big one 97wh... which is what i want. They told me they never sold the 97wh one for the xps 9550. -
Hey all. Can anyone here confirm my xps 15 9550 will have no issue connecting it to a 4k tv/monitor? I am considering getting a 43' tv that is 4k and using it as a computer monitor. Is my video card/graphics card strong enough for this? Its Intel HD Graphics 530 and also something with nvidia.
I also believe I need to buy the usb-c to hdmi 2.0 adapter as well like this right if i want it to run smoothly and not lag using it with a 4k tv?

I use it currently with one of my 24' 1920 x 1200 monitors... the other monitor i use hdmi to hdmi. -
You don't want to use hdmi 2.0 with 4k as the refresh rate is limited to 30hz.
I use https://store.google.com/ie/product/usb_type_c_to_displayport_cable which drives my monitor at 60Hz. But the TV / Monitor you are looking at may not support Display Port. -

No, you don't have displayport connector !
buy this one or similar :

If you have a 4k monitor with a display port then I would not recommend that one as the 9550 will only dive it at 30Hz - this is the one I use: https://store.google.com/ie/product/usb_type_c_to_displayport_cable which drives at 60Hz 4k -
did you read the product description ? it is HDMI 4K/60Hz
but if his 4k monitor has only displayport my adaptater is worthless and yours is good -
Isn't the one you linked pretty much exactly like this cable I already have?
https://www.amazon.com.mx/gp/product/B06Y6448WB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -
yes it is the same kind : thunderbolt usb type-c to hdmi, allow 4K@60Hz (native 9550's hdmi port is "only" 4k@30Hz)
-
Well I already have this though. But isn't the issue it won't work because my dell xps 15 9550 laptop has only hdmi 1.4... but a 4k tv or monitor needs hdmi 2.0?
Thus i need a cable wire with hdmi 2.0? -
I'm not sur of what your asking. Native 9550's HDMI port is independent of an adaptater usb type-c to hdmi....
I use a normal HDMI cable (not specific HDMI 2.0) and it's working -
I meant if i get a 4k tv right now... like the TCL 43 inch tv i posted... is there any issue connecting to it with that cable i already have and use it like big monitor? Because someone mentioned there would be issue because my laptop only supports 30hz... and that tv is 60hz or 120hz so there would be a ton of mouse lagging.. because my hdmi port is only usb 1.4 and not HDMI 2.0)?
I plan to connect my laptop to only this big TV though... i mean i might try to connect the big tv and one of the other monitors i currently have but i doubt it.
But isn't the hz thing an issue because i dont have HDMI 2.0)? -
Also related to this... i mentioned I got a new 84wh battery. Now i mentioned i use it plugged in almost always and connected to external monitors.
I use to always leave my laptop plugged in... even when battery is full since I use it like a desktop. Previously what I did a long time ago I was use it while on battery till it was like 20-30% battery, then fully charge it to 100% and then rinse and repeat. But i was told that wears your battery out faster right?
So if im using my laptop as a desktop which I always done, how do i not wear out my battery? I remember someone said you could make your laptop battery onl charge up to max 80 or 90%... that way even when full charged... it doesn't go to 100% and keep charging and then wear out the battery faster. Is this true? If so, how do I do this?
Because I checked my battery report and it seems like the previous batteries I had... after a year or so... I worn out like 2/3 of the battery or so. But definitely after 1/2 a year... i wear at least 1/3rd of the battery capacity. The first battery replacement I did... I did it after 1.5 years. The last battery I just replaced... it was almost 2.5 years but it was worn out at least 8 months ago minimum.
I mean I know if i use the laptop with no internal battery, then my battery will last longer... but obviously that isn't what a laptop is meant for.
But since I use my laptop as a desktop, best way to not wear out the battery so fast? Like I know a battery typically last between 1-2 years with 1.5 years seem to be average. But I don't want my battery worn out in say just a year.
