most crappy XPS update ever. and the 6core cpu mostly wont be able to undervolt as good as the 4core. running hot and loud. 2018 is no good year to buy pc nor laptop upgrades. 2019 has to come fast.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I however believe the 6 core/1050 ti is a worthwhile upgrade.

lol. I will reserve judgement here.

On a positive note, compared to the old XPS 9560, the new XPS 2-in-1 seems to have an uprated voltage regulation section and improved cooling (e.g. bigger radiators, more aggressivie heat pipes, better mating with 4 relatively evenly spaced screws). The 9570 could realize a good bump in real world performance if Dell incorporates some of these improvements. Inside images and real world tests will come in due time...

That said, Intel's Skylake architecture and Dell's XPS styling both are a bit long in the tooth.

I am okay with this upgrade, and the reports of the thermals of the XPS 15 2 in 1 are more positive, with the main issues arising from voltage limitations which occur due to the shared voltage of the CPU and the GPU, but that effects the CPU aspect more. I was expecting a bigger visual redesign but on the positive side, upgrades to the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI ports are good, and the SD card reader is retained. Competing products like the Gigabyte Aero 15/15X and the MSI GS65 offer cutting edge features like FHD 144HZ displays, but their shortcomings include shorter battery life, inferior build quality, and for the Gigabyte, a cramped keyboard layout. I look forward to the FHD XPS 15 9570 with the big battery, which should be considerably cheaper than the competing products, with Dell offering discounts soon after launch and Ebates to further bring the price down. The story is different if gaming is of higher priority for you, however.

And by the way, did anyone confirm with certainty as to whether the GTX 1050 TI is Max-Q or not? Media reports don't mention this distinction.

Dell's thermal limitations make the 1050 ti mq the only real possibility... Plus Frank Azor said it would be a Max-Q gpu...

    hahaha.

The XPS 9550 was an unmitigated disaster at release; that was largely sorted out after a year with improved BIOS, drivers, etc. The 9560 launch was much smoother. Incremental improvements were made in the early months with improved BIOS, drivers, etc.

I think both the 9550 & 9560 are relatively sorted for experienced users at this point. But for power users, both "need" clean install of Windows, repaste of CPU/GPU, undervolting. And for casual gaming/video work, the 7700HQ throttles very quickly so there are extreme thermal mods several people did.

As the 9570 is not a new box but minor refresh of the 9550, & 9560 (same CPU architecture, similar GPU, same case, same keyboard, similar screens... ), Dell's engineers have a reduced set of areas they can screw up.

A few reddit users have the new XPS 2-in-1 9575 and are claiming very high temps and thermal throttling; aggressive undervolts helped a lot.

So, as the 9570 is just a minor refresh of the 9550 & 9560, I hope the core engineering and drivers are fairly well sorted. I don't expect Dell to release a perfectly sorted machine day 0 but SPECULATE it will be pretty good. Given the tiny form factor, won't be surprised to see people here repasting, undervolting, etc...

Regardless, I'll let you beta test and report back. . .

New Dell XPS 15 still not up on either the Dell Canadian site or the US site. However, US MSRP prices of some configurations are available... https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/8cs2ve/dell_xps_15_9570_official_prices/. Good news is that the prices are indeed the same as the 9560. No i9 model pricing available yet. Of course, for users here, it is best to wait for some discounts to combine with coupons, as this gives you some time to check early feedback of thermals, while getting a better deal. It will probably take Dell a lot of time to ship out the first units, anyways.

Yeah, there are always deals, coupons and discounts. DON'T FORGET EBATES. 10% cash back on purchases. thats almost 300 bucks for my xps 15 2 in 1 when the config I want becomes available.

Lol Dell just can't be organized
Says laptop will be available on a certain date and nobody at the company is sure when the laptop will be available‍♂️
Anyway, I'll not be 'tester' this time around ... I'll wait to see if they've made any progress with this model or if users will still be complaining about the same issues from previous models

I really hope they learned from their past mistakes and improved cooling by adding a full-cover coldplate for the VRMs that links them to the heatsink-fan array. If not, I'm afraid they may end up with a disaster.

Interesting, looks like you have to buy an i7 now to get the dedicated video card. Looks like Dell did away with the i3/integrated and replaced it with an i5/integrated.

Good starting price on the new Dell XPS 15 FHD 16/512, which is not available on the Dell Canada store as a default, but can be upconfigured from the FHD 8/256 model. Also nice that the larger battery is available in more configurations than before. It is strange that the new XPS 15 is using the same Killer Wireless 1535 as the prior model while the Inspiron G5 and G7 series is using newer WiFi cards with Bluetooth 5.0. Now to wait for reviews and bigger discounts. The i9 model is very likely to be a thermal and value disaster.

I put in an order over the phone for one with an i7, 1050ti, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and 4k. Tried to get them to honor the 12% coupon on the website, was told there was no deals going on currently, but "after talking to his manager" he got me a "special price of $2008."

Probably going to complain about it to customer service and see what they can knock off further by threatening to cancel my order :D

Why not just get a i7 9560 then? Much cheaper now, and performance is going to be fairly similar.

Here in the Netherlands, the 9560 models are about 300 euro cheaper than before. I regularly hear people say that Costco, I believe, had some pretty good deals in the USA.

I scan the US outlet from time to time. Current prices seem about average compared to say the past 12 months. So no screaming deals despite release of 9570.

I recall similar pricing trends when 9560 was released.

Dell does have legitimate outlet sales just a few times a year but they take a lot of effort to identify. You need to be careful as sometimes Dell boosts prices say 20% just before issuing 15% coupons, lol.

Also, a few years ago, Dell Outlet provided premium shipping & 1-year on-site "premium" repair. More recent terms are slow shipping and 1-year warranty (via mail). So that inflation makes the Outlet a bit less compelling.

In my location the pricing of the 9560 has remained fairly consistent. Given the age of that model, I feel it is a worse deal now than it was a year ago, from an opportunity cost perspective. I am sure the 9570 will seem some good deals soon, if you can wait.

Of course storage prices have skyrocketed over the past few years. Dell, and other laptop makers, likely locks in supplier pricing on commodity products but terms are not super-long-term so pricing gets reset over time.

So Dell has to incorporate storage inflation into their prices. And pass the inflation to us. . .

Yeah, the cooling is not better than in the previous models. So do not waste money for the 6Core I7 model, buy only with Core I5 and do undervolting much as possible.

I cant help to wonder if Dell themselves believe their own hype. The Alienwares that had REAL problems with cooling where supposed to have an entire new cooling system this year to remedy this according to Dellienware...real test so far has shown almost no difference at all IRL.

Well that's a disappointing preview. And I don't have any hopes Dell will improve anything. I had 9550 and now 9560 and i experienced some similar issues across the two. Once the announcement showed the exact same body and dimensions, I had my suspicions.
