Just got my cable today and discovered that I was sent a DD0GM6LC230 instead of the DD0GM6LC140 that was specified in the text of the ad on ebay.

Anyway i've fitted it to see if it works with the LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) I received a few weeks ago.

Problem is when I boot the black of the screen is Lime Green and the screen looks interlaced.

Now I don't know which is the problem- is the cable at fault or is the screen defective?

That sounds like an HD cable driving an FHD display. Is it possible for you to post some pictures?

Just from the screen when it clearly shows the symptoms. I have connected the FHD screen to my standard HD cable and should be able to recognize it, as should many others who are reading this thread.

There are several pics of the FHD cable in this thread.

Your screen indeed looks like an FHD screen connected to an HD cable. The label on the cable indeed says "HD" where it should have showed "FHD".

Thanks for your help :) I'll take a look through this thread again and make sure next time I get the right cable.

If anyone knows of a reliable source for the FHD cable would be grateful for the heads up.

This has been quite an interesting read. It peaked my interest because I just purchased an AOC e1649Fwu, which is the portable USB powered monitor. I broke into it to see what type of panel was in it and it happens to be AU Optronics B156XW02 v.6. With that said do you guys think it possible to upgrade it to one the higher resolution counterparts that have been discussed here??

This portable monitor sounds interesting. Can you send a high resolution photograph of the monitor's LVDS cable?

Yeah, I'll do it when I get off work. Its a rather interesting unit from when I took it apart the first time. I think there is a power transformer that increases the power it recieves from the USB slot. I'll take a few pics of the interior of the unit.

Get the V.4 if you prefer matte, and the V.7 if you prefer glossy. The other ones are not as good. Also, look in my sig!

    +1 success story from me.

    I just finished upgrading my L502x screen from a 720 glossy to a AUO B156HW01 v4 panel.

Using the instructions from here and also from from the L502x Service Manual, it went swimmingly.

Just one point for 502x owners using the instructions in the first post- you'll need to remove the display assembly from the base in order to get the LCD cable off/ out- this is covered in the Dell Service manual, so all good.

Thanks for the great instructions in the OP :)

What is the most reliable place to buy the AUO B156HW01 v4 panel? I want just this exact model, not compatible ones. Is laptopscreens reliable? They also sell compatible lcds, but in the case of the AUO B156HW01 v4 they say it is the exact model in their description.

Just ask whomever you purchase from to take a pic of the panel label BEFORE you pay and they ship.

I recently upgraded my screen from HD to FHD following this guide the screen works fine I just have an issue in regards to the Intel HD graphics where the control panel doesn't appear to be working anymore and when I do get it up it doesn't appear to recognize the screen and allow me to change the resolution. The Nvidia card works fine and recognizes the screen but would love the Intel to work as well. Has this happened to anyone else. New screen is a LG LP156WF1.

Ok so here's a question. Assuming one changes the cable to the V73D3 will this run the original 720 screen on a L502x as wellas the new full HD one or would one need to swap back the old lead to use the lower res screen?

I would like to know if it's possible to swap the screen with a 1600x900 (WXGA++) screen. And if it's possible, do i need to swap the video cable as well?

You have to change the cable, yes. Also, you have to check if your BIOS supports HD+. I'm stuck with BIOS A05 because as of A06 Dell made some changes to vBios (I think) and it would not boot with my HD+ screen. From what I gather new BIOS versions check for some kind of display firmware and if it's not the right firmware it won't even POST. All you get is 8 beeps or something like that (Dell BIOS display error code).

Hi everyone, has anyone been able to compare the LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) and the AUO B156HW01 v4?

I've got the AUO B156HW01 v4 in my Thinkpad right now, and I'm not 100% satisfied - the colors are pretty decent, but it uses a LOT of power (about 7W on full brightness - that cuts my battery life by about 60%!) and the coating isn't really matte (AUO seems to like a kind of satin matte that's better for vibrant colors, but doesn't ward off dust and fingerprints as well as a typical Samsung-Matte coating).

What I'm looking for is high brightness at low power consumption (efficiency!), a *real* matte coating, decent viewing angles (the AUO display's viewing angles are just fine IMO, so I'm hoping for similarly good ones on the LG) and high contrast.

Is the LG what I'm looking for? Or would I be better off sticking with the AUO?

The only one you should put it in your T510, T520, W510, W520 is that, or the slim panel from Sony SE ( LG LP156WF4 SLB1). It's an amazing matte IPS panel but has problem with red colors (i've seen it in life, it'n not as bad as people say on the internet!) The connector is on a different place, so you might need some LVDS extender cable.

LG LP156WF1 is a good standard gamut screen, it comes with the non-IPS E6520 and M4600 workstations! I don't know what is the difference between the TL B1 and the TL F3 models.

So are you saying that the LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) is inferior to the AUO v4?

Are the LG panels really less reflective than the AUO panels, as I'm hoping? Have you been able to compare power consumption by any chance?

The AUO is generally regarded as better, but the matte coating might be better for you on the LG. The AUO has better viewing angles, but the LG is more power efficient. I've just found this:

Sorry, corrected the typo, HP just picks panels, doesn't manufacture any. Most brands use panels from more than one vendor.

Oh right, i thought you meant that HP was the manufacturer of the panel along with LG :)

I wonder how much of a difference in power consumption I'd see in real life if I put in an LG panel - the Chimei (not sure if that's the correct name) 1366x768 TFT that came in my T520 draws about 1W less than the AUO panel at low brightness, and a full 5W less at full brightness... wasn't expecting such a huge jump in power consumption :(

But it's not a fair comparison, as the AUO is a very bright panel. If you compare them at the same brightness, the difference is not so big!

I've started with a 1600x900 panel (I think from LG), and I've changed it to the 1080p AUO. The power usage became bigger, but the screen is brighter a lot too! I'm mostly using the AUO in <5 brightness, while I was using the other screen at around 9-10. But yes, the max power use is about +5 W higher with the AUO. The min is about +2 W higher.

Interesting, I'm only seeing about 1W increase on brightnesses from 1/15 to 10/15...

Maybe I'll just stick with the AUO then... I have a 9-cell and a slice, so it's not like I'm hurting for battery life :D. It was just so nice to see the T520 idling at ~5.3W with the Chimei panel at 5/15... the AUO draws about 6.5 at 5/15.

Then again, if I stumble across a cheap LG panel... I don't think I'd be able to resist pulling the trigger ;)

Thanks again for your thoughts :)

    Hi all.
This is my first post so bear with me.
I have just bought the l502x with the 720 screen and its rubbish.
I am looking for the AUO B156HW01 V4 screen in the U.K.

Can anyone help me or advise of a good overseas retailer.
I have just bought the FHD cable of ebay.

    Many thanks in advance.

Recommended seller with dead-pixel free screens, very good price, overseas: laptopscreen.com

    UK seller (very expensive!)
http://kuzotronic.com/ (seems to be down at the moment)

or use the one linked by bemymonkey

If I were to order now, I'd buy from laptopscreen.com and pay the VAT + duty fee.

I bought it from an Australian seller, but it has a bad pixel and it's annoying. The shipping was fast with TNT, about one week, but I had to pay the VAT + duty + there is this annoying bad pixel, so I really recommend against it.

The good thing about laptopscreens is that there is one guy from that company on this forum (LSB) and you can ask questions from him, ask to test the screen for dead pixels, etc. On the other hand the german seller might be a good option, if you can ask him to test for dead pixels. Or alternately, if you'd like I can sell you my screen for half price with one dead pixel.
