Thanks for the offer zsero.
But i think the pixel would me nuts.

If you order within the EU, you should have a 7 day no-questions-asked return window. You might have to cover return shipping, but if you're unsatisfied with a panel (dead pixels etc.) you ordered within the EU, you should be able to return it for a refund without problems...

Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this screen?
B156HW01 V.5 replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $79.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
The V.5 version is actually cheaper than the popular V.4 version.
Also, this cable should work, right? It's labeled as V73D3 which is the correct video cable, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Hi,
I have got the following problem with my new screen: I had ordered the AUO B156HW01-V7(actually the shop sent a LG LP156WF1 (TL) (E2) to me(?) Then I bought the fhd ribbon cable and replaced the old screen and the hd ribbon cable with the new one. While booting, the laptop displays the windwos 7 start animation correctly until the login window should be shown. the screen looks like being on (not complete dark) but it doesn´t display the login dialog, etc...I think it´s a driver problem, because:
1. I can hear the start sound and can login into windows "sightless"
2. I can boot the laptop in safe mode and everything is displayed
I have also reinstalled the newest nvidia drivers with no success
thx in advance for every answer!!!
(sorry for my bad english)
-
Try pressing Fn+F1 when the screen is dark?
-
edit: Ordered both. I'm psyched to finally replace that horrible 720p screen! -
Thank you, but it did not work. Anyone else? The screen should be ok, because it works with windows safe mode
-
Did your systems automatically change the resolution from 1366x768 to 1920x1080 or how did you do this?
-
Sorry for spaming, but i think i got it now: maybe my new screen has a firmware, which is not compatible to dell laptops. Can anyone proof that? I also have no prgramming tool. Which screen should i take instead of that i got? I have chatted with my screenshop and i find out, that they weren´t be able to send me a the v7 or v4 of the au optronics b156hw01. Thank you for helping in advance!

Everything you need to to know is written above ;D

I have recieved and installed my new v.4 screen and cable.
All went really well until i turned the laptop on....
I got a white screen and eight bios beeps.Quick look in the manual
and it read "display failure".
**** i thought to myself. So checked all the connections and found the
cable going into the back wasn't pushed in correctly.
Re-booted and guess what?
A 1080p sexy screen.
Get up!!!!Loving it....
It also changed to 1080p automatically. -
Do I have to buy a new screen?
-
If it really doesn't work I'd send it back and ask for a refund. Then you can buy a AUO from one of the places in the wiki in my sig. -
You could try to put back your old screen on the new cable, so at least you know whether the cable is good or not.
-
My Laptop is connected with the the old screen through the new cable and it seems to work fine; I asked my shop, if they got any of the panels listed on the first post of this thread in stock.(The shop gives a "no-dead-pixel-warranty",-> i really like it
) . Does anyone now a reliable "source "(shipping exact model), which offers the auo b156hw01 v.7 ?I´m from Germany so a European shop would be the best.
-
I didn't see anyone answer previous people asking this question, but how would I go about installing a full HD screen if I have the 1366x768 multi-touch panel? I don't care if I can touch the new screen or not, I just want to know if having a touchscreen makes installing a new screen more difficult or impossible.
-
I'm expecting your screen to be setup about the same way as TX2500:

Which means you can probably salvage the touch layer (digitizer) and overlay it on top of the new LCD. -
Hello, I bought one AUO V4 15.6" lcd to laptopscreen. I received it today and after installation all seemed flawless until I discovered one dead pixel (dark color all the time).

I'm having a big problem now. I installed the screen and the cable and the display was beautiful! However, today I was watching Netflix on it and I realized that the calibrated settings for the old monitor were still active, so I went to Graphics Profiles, and clicked "Return to Default."
Immediately, I started seeing color banding in my video. I tried punching the old settings back in, but the banding is still there. I've tried tweaking, restarting, and even uninstalling drives, but the pictures I used to calibrate look just awful. It was working yesterday! Any ideas? -
*edit* Alright, finally solved it. After disassembling for the 4th time, I checked every connection, and it turns out that the tape that holds the cable behind the screen wasn't very sticky, and it wasn't keeping the cable connected. Some new tape fixed that, and now it's working great -
Hello,
Sorry for my english.
I read this post.
I buy a FULL HD screen for my L501x.
I have a trouble with it.

When i connect the new screen, i have this problem:
Do you think it is a problem with the ribbon, i pass a order for a ribbon Full HD :

Or it is a problem with the screen, and i must cancel my order?
Thank you for your help. -
This definitely is a cable problem. I had the same when I tried my FHD screen on the standard cable. Just wait 'till your 0V73D3 has arrived, install it and your screen will look normal.

Thank you Squirrel61 for your reply.

Does Dell Australia still sell the ribbon cable?
Checked their spare parts and seems non existent.
Also had a chat with one of the techs and the screens weren't in spare parts either.
Is this ribbon dodgy or ok?
So from what I have gathered to replace the screen in l502x and get the upgraded screen that they were offering at the time you would need
B156HW01 v.7 Glossy (Exact one they offered)
B156HW01 v.4 Matte
Are these RGB LED?
So confusing! I just wish the shop I bought it from didn't go with the standard screen SEC5441
Has anyone checked lately if laptop can be sent to Dell to do it directly and have it done rather then mess around ordering from different places and how much?
Is there an Australian website I could get it from quicker from or am I pretty much left with choices of with Ebay and laptopscreen.com -
I replaced my broken screen with a LG.Found out i might have brought the wrong cable. Ordering a v73d3 now, hoping it works. Is any one getting a max 1024 x 768 with the non-hd cable?
-
Broke my 720p screen this morning and figure its time to upgrade; I found a LG LP156WF1(TL)(B1) screen and the V73D3 cable on amazon. I'm a little new to laptop/pc repair and wanted to double check with you guys before i place the order. From everything in this thread it looks like i should be good to go.
Thanks for the help.

Try and get B156HW01 v.4 screen the ribbon cable looks ok.
-
I just installed the B156HW01 v4 and the V73D3 cable but my screen still looks like the attached image, faded with some vertical lines, also the desktop extends beyond the screen. Are there any settings I need to change to get the display working correctly? The display looks fine when booting up, the Dell/ Windows loading screen are fine, its not until the log-in screen everything becomes faded.
Also, being the amateur I am, I broke one of the clips that helps hold the keyboard cable onto the motherboard. Now I have to press down fairly hard on the connection to get the keyboard to work. Did I totally shoot myself in the foot here?
This whole process has taken more energy than I originally anticipated and I am about to send the pc off to a professional or buy something new.
Can anyone offer some help? Thanks
-
The screen looks exactly like it does when the old HD cable is used. You can try to swap the cables and you'll most probably notice there's no difference in the display. In other words, it looks like your 73D3 cable is not a real 73D3.
With the keyboard connector you're fairly much screwed. It requires a skilled person with professional tools to replace it. Maybe you can create something that applies permanent pressure on the connector. It should be possible to insert a plastic strip in the opnening which is being held down by the surrounding plastic and maybe add some foam to press on the connector. -
As Squirrel61 mentions, it may be a bogus cable. There are a few overseas sellers that seem to be sending out standard 720p (single channel) LVDS cables labelled as the 1080p (dual channel) LVDS cables. Below is how a real Dell V73D3 looks like. I have also included a pic showing what data lines to look for when confirming if you have a 1080p compatible cable.
In regards to your keyboard ribbon cable header connector, you can still use it. Instead of putting the tape in the middle, place separate pieces on each side of the header connector where the clip normally is and that will secure the engaged connector while applying pressure to the ribbon contacts where needed.

So I miraculously was able to get the keyboard cable situation under control by inserting the black plastic piece after the cable was in place, then tape.
Here are a few images of my "73D3" it did come from China and took forever so I wouldn't be to surprised if its fake. In comparison to the old cable it does look like it has a few more lines but not all 40, I can see 3 bundles, the old one had 2.
-
Well this is turning into quite the 'learning' experience...
I have to admit my own error here; while trying to get the keyboard cable connected earlier, I had the pc running. I was trying to see when it was connected and I could log-in, I was able to get it working and thought that issue was resolved. But with all that fiddling while the pc was powered up I must have fried something. It wont boot at all now, I tried an electrostatic discharge and now just the orange keypad LED it lit, I can hear the HD spinning, and the cd tray will open.
What did I do!? This is turning into a "How NOT to fix your laptop" ordeal. If you guys could steer me in the right direction, i'm fairly experienced with pc's but by far no expert, i'm really close to ditching this project on the Geek Squad or local PC store.
Thanks again, I really appreciate how much help this forum has provided thus far. -
Do you hear any beeps when powered ON? If so, how many?
Did you hear a snap or see any smoke when the possible mistake was made?
Does anything happen if you press and hold the "D" key WHILE pressing the power button? This should start the diagnostics.
If you hear system activity, can you plug in an external monitor to test the video?
Have you tried removing the DC plug, the main battery, plus the CMOS battery (on the system board), and holding the power button down for 30-45 seconds to insure the system is put through a hard-reset?
If you are within the USA, you can always send the system to me and I will take a look at it. Just PM me for details.
Scott- -
Hey Scott,
No beeps.
No snap or smoke, the power button led kinda flickered then went out.
When I held D and powered the pc the back-light on the keyboard flashed on then off. Also as soon as I plug in the pc the hd starts and the ogange led turns on without me pressing the power button.
I got no video with an external monitor connected.
I tried the hard reset with all the batteries out and no luck.
I think i'm going to take it in to my local pc shop tomorrow. I am in the US and appreciate your offer, if the guys at my pc store seem like they don't have a clue, I will contact you. -
Hi guys,
Just done one of these, got the panel from Laptopscreens.com ordered and received a genuine AUO B156HW01 v7 cost $128.60 USD including postage to the UK.
Bought the cable on ebay for 27.95 GBP in. postage from here - PCFX Ltd. - DELL XPS L502X L501X V73D3 HD LCD Cable DD0GM6LC140 - WARRANTY | eBay.
Correct ribbon cable received.
Got to admit that the first time i booted after fitting the panel i got the white lines, i disconnected the cable as i suspected that the wrong cable had been supplied, on close inspection it did have the extra hd wires though. I reconnected everything and booted again and Bingo 1080p.
If anyone is worried about doing this it's pretty simple, just take yer time is all but perhaps it was easier for me as i already did the same swop with my XPS17 501x, just didn't have to change the cable is all.
Hope the links help someone... -
Upgraded screen from 720p to 1080p on my laptop, but every time it is meant to show a black screen, i.e at the very beginning of boot or in sleep mode it is bright white. Any ideas of possible fixes?
-
Hi zsero,
I'm looking to upgrade my DELL L502X 720p screen - I'm in Sydney Australia and would be interested to learn where you purchased your screen - you mention you purchased it from an Australian seller? Does the seller offer exchanges for bad pixels or would you suggest laptopscreen.com because of this issue?
Would you be able to recommend where to purchase the appropriate cable to support the 1080p screen as well?
Thanks
-
I'd never ever recommend that seller from Australia. Pretty much he was selling screens with bad pixels and said that the policy was "up-to-1-bad-pixel", so he didn't change it for anyone. I'd recommend laptopscreen.com, fast, cheap and they have a member here.
For the cable I have no idea, I'm a ThinkPad user. Maybe ebay? -
Following the advice in this thread I have just upgraded my L502x to a 1080p screen.
I did need the V73D3 cable which I bought new from eBay in the UK for £18 and I used a B156HW01 V.5 screen (Cost £51.70 delivered)
(I didn't want the higher current drain of a V.4 or V.7 screen)
So far - I like it!

Hey there.
I have to change a broken screen on a L501x. It's a AUO glossy 1366*768 display (part number: B156XW02 V.2 ; H/W:1A). I'm looking preferably for a matte display screen.
I wonder if it's possible to swap it for a 1600*900 matte display like the one available on laptopscreen.com (item ID: 432893, laptopscreen.com shows the exact part number only for the FHD screens) without problems, since L501x screens seem to show only 768 and 1080p resolutions.
The B156XW02 V.7 screen is a matte display, but with poorer contrast and color gamut than the V.2:
-contrast: 400:1 vs 500:1
-color gamut: 45% vs 60%
I've been proposed a LP156WH4 LG screen wich seems to be of poor quality. Am I advised not to buy it?
I've also been offered a LP156WD1-TLB1 LG screen, which seems quite better.
I'm unsure if I can go with a FHD screen ( B156HW01 V.4) because the main user of the laptop is myopic and doesn't feel really comfortable at high resolutions on a small screen.
Or should I go for a FHD screen and upscale the font and so on, since the FHD screens show better specs (viewing angles, brightness and color gamut)? It's quite more expensive than the LP156WD1, though.
Since the V.4 (matte) and V.7 (glossy) seem to show really better specs than the V.5...
I have to choose fairly quickly, so any help will be greatly welcome. -
