Dell XPS L501x LCD Display Swap

I guess there's always some gray area when it comes to this sort thing. I won't be blatant, but if you search for AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V.7 on Ebay right now you'll see 2 of these up for auction by me.

I'll be totally transparent with you guy's, after ebay and paypal fees, I'm only looking to make a couple bucks on these. I know my price isn't a whole lot less than TWscreen, but at least you won't have to take a trip down to your bank or western union, and deal with wiring money to a foreign country.

 

Does anyone know if there are any vendors that have the matte finish screen in stock now?

You could make it more attractive if you sell the full kit. I meant... screen + ribbon cable. Obviously that cable won't be free, but at least people won't have to deal with two separate purchases.

 

Mmh it's always being said that the V.7 is glossy and that a matte screen would need to be V.4.

the screen shipped from twscreen last friday has arrived today, but i have to pay 44 euros ~ 58 US Dollars in concept of import taxes :S
I'll do the installation tonight so when it's done i will post the results.

 

Yeah that custom duties sucks... I've heard that registered mail (UPS, Fedex, DHL) always enforce those taxes here in Colombia. I prefered not to make my screen arrive directly to my country due to that reason... Currently it's on tour in a special mailbox in Miami... it arrived also today... Now I have to wait about an extra week but I'm not in a hurry because I have to wait for the ribbon cable anyway.

Ok, the installation it's done, B156HW01 V.7 from twscreen.com and all it's ok, very fast delivery and the screen is perfect, it's the original from AUO, no bad pixels and the viewing angles are much better than the 720p (B156WX02 V2) so the color is a bit oversatured i thing, i'm seeing if found a program to calibrate it. But I'm pleased with the new screen, but I need to reconfigure the icons size, fonts... all seems small now!

That oversaturation looks like a common behaviour on high-gamut screens. So share your experiences if you happen to succesfully calibrate it.

But I think it's the HD and not the FHD ribbon cable, you can call them to see if they have the FHD cable (you can see a pic with the P/N on the first page of the same thread)

 

I've been following this thread closesly for some time while trying to get a screen sorted. I was going to order the glossy v7 from twscreen but still had the problem of locating a cable as I live in the UK, and didn't fancy paying Dell £70! I ended up getting in touch with barlow00 after saying he might be able to help people out.

Anyway, to cut a long story short - he has set up a bundle including the exact B156HW01 V4 screen and FHD Cable which I've just pre-ordered.

If you are experiencing stuck pixels, they can be removed using the following program: JScreenFix - Fix stuck pixels

You can also try massaging the screen gently over the stuck pixel area.

I have an AUO22EC on my L501x, and I am looking forware to change it but I can not find the FullHD Ribbon Cable needed.
Today a call to Dell (Dell from Spain, in my case), and they told me that they sell cables no more.

I saw that someone on this forum was selling that cable but it is already sold out, so I don't know what to do in order to get the cable...

I found that ebay auction and thought, "man... this is awfully detailed, seems like someone did their research!" Figured the seller was a laptop enthusiast, not a business, and if anything... they're probably a member of NBR. Sure enough, I was right as I decided to check in on this thread again.

Anyway, if anyone can confirm if it will work with a HP 8540w? I figure it will because the V.5 is what HP uses and others have confirmed that other V.# have worked. But the fact that you Dell XPS owners requiring a specific cable worries me a bit. Does the V.7 have a proprietary plug/cable or something? Or is it simply to upgrade from 720p to FHD? I know with the HP 8540w, other members have been able to upgrade their 900p to FHD without additional parts. If no one knows, I'll give it a shot and buy one of your screens Coltrane69. If you'd like, I'll purchase it outside of ebay to help reduce some of your fees, just PM me your paypal address.

 

I HOPE it works... I have bought B156HW01 V4 I will have it on Monday and install on mine 8540p (also supported for FHD screens, according to service manual)... Everything I read in last period says that V4 and V7 are same screens (mate and glossy), also V0 and V1 same (mate and glossy)... I HOPE no reason not to work...

whoa... where'd you get your V.4? and how much???
That was actually my first choice, but after reading that it was discontinued and all supplies had run dry, I gave up and decided I'd just go with the V.7 and throw an anti-glare film on it.
I guess the question is... are Dell owners replacing the ribbon connector because the V.7 is B+RGLED or whatever? or is it because of the 1366x768 to 1920x1080 resolution?

 

The ribbon cable is needed to swap from 720p to FHD, but this is because Dell uses diferent cables to save a bit of money. If V4 runs in your HP model, V7 runs too, I'm sure.

Well I finally called Dell on Friday to find out where my cable was, and guess what... my order was canceled for some reason . It sure would've been nice to get an Email or phone call from them. So anyway with no apparent reason for the cancellation, the dell rep apologized and asked if I wanted to re-order, obviously the answer was yes and this time I ordered 3 of them. So hopefully I'll have a couple of extras for those of you that can't seem to get a hold of them. Also, as of right now I have 2 screens left for sale on Ebay... just search for AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V.7 LCD Screen 15.6" Full-HD Dell . NBR member terrible lie has expressed interest in one, so I may possibly have only one left.

 

I found their website, but no mention of any B156HW01 models?
How did you go about purchasing it? Did you have to wire money and all that? I'm guessing not since you only mention the $84 + shipping cost.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to wait until Monday to confirm that Ivanox actually receives a V.4, since that is the model I really wanted. Hopefully you still have one left by then... but if you sell one before Monday comes, I'll probably just buy your last one. If it's not too much trouble, can you reserve one for me??
