Hi guys. I've been reading through this thread with great interest, there's lots of good advice here.

My Dell XPS 15 l501x recently suffered a fall, and I have no coverage on it. Now I have a white stripe up the left side of my screen and the bezel/top cover has been bent a little out of shape.

Dell has offered to replace my WLED B+RG 15.6” Full HD screen and bezel (which was also damaged) for over £450, which is basically half the price of the laptop when I bought it brand new. Needless to say this is way too much for me.

I have tracked down a screen on kuzotronic, and I assume that I already have the full HD cable as my screen is full hd. My question is if anyone knows where I can buy a replacement top cover/front bezel for the screen? I've found one on ebay from the US, but as I'm living in denmark I would like to know if anyone knows of an alternative a little closer? I would really appreciate it!

    Thanks :)

can someone with one of these cables tell me more about the motherboard-end of the cable? i want to see if it might work with a lenovo e520. the lvds cable on the e520, at the motherboard end, is almost flat, doesn't have a connector exactly, and ifts under a connector on the motherboard that you lever up, insert cable end, then lever down.

    e520 lvds cable 1.jpg

    e520 lvds cable 3.jpg

apologies for the crappy photo quality. is that the same as this dell cable end?

Everyone who posted in this thread, thank you very much for all the interesting and helpfull info. Since a few days, I'm the proud owner of an L502x. I bought it with the standard screen, expecting to be able to swap it for a full-HD screen later for half the price. But to my astonishment, Dell might well be the first company to ship their laptops with an LCD cable which supports only half of the screens! Like some Dell technician was quoted in the first pages of this thread, I've always been able to swap screens without swapping cables.

On my previous laptop, a very cheap Toshiba, I swapped the crappy 1440x900 for a 1920x1200 screen with much better colors and everything was working from the moment I booted the laptop with the new screen. I've done comparable swaps on other laptops and never experienced any peculiarities. But Dell has managed to learn me something new about marketing.

Since in Europe it's almost impossible to get the V73D3 cables, at least not for decent prices, I'd like to know if there's any reader of this thread who is willing to buy a few of these from Dell USA and make a few bucks on the deal, besides my deep gratitude of course. I only need one, but some members of another forum that I'm member of, might be interested too. So what I'm basically asking is let's say 3 of the V73D3 cables, shipped to your home first, then shipped to Europe, paid in advance preferrably with Paypal (but if you don't have Paypal, let me know your preferences and I'll see what I can manage).

Thanks for the suggestion! I already found a few of these cables on eBay but the price is pretty steep compared to what Dell USA charges for them. For me, it comes down on almost €55 shipping included, which means that I can as well order it from Dell Netherlands (they seem to have them in stock atm).

Btw. got a quote from TWscreen for a genuine AUO. It lists for almost $200 including shipping and bank costs(???), excluding my bank transfer costs and customs, which will probably add another $50. That means that a working screen+cable calculates over €200, probably up to €230!

We could get you a V4 delivered to NL for around 185 Euros with no customs charges etc.

You would still need a cable however

NOTE: This is not a sales offer....just a thought! :)

Scott_RC-TEK any chance you can still get one of those cables and ship to Europe ( Belgium ) ?

    I got a L502x with a 720 screen so I'm guessing I need one..

I'd like to make sure I get my cable before I order my screen :)

I can pay with paypall or some other way you prefer.

Or does anybody know of a way besides eBay to get a cable in Europe ?

edit: not sure if this topc is still being watched so I also pm'd you :)

So let me try and clarify this.

We can use any of the three screens listed:
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) - by NoSlow5oh
    AUO B156HW01 v4 - by chanman
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B3) - by jnguye13

and then all we need is the ribbon cable from Dell?
    Item No: V73D3
    Description: Assembly,Cable,Low Voltage Differential Signaling,Full High Definition,Light Emitting Diode,NIMOY

    And it works fine?
    I have a L501x. Max resolution is 1366x768
I used my brothers laptop with a resolution of: 1920 x 1080 and I must say, i kinda liked it. Kinda wishing mine was bigger now. Would the new screen change that?

Yes, that is correct. These screens use the standard 40-pin LVDS interface on the back of the LCD so they are good to go.

With 1080p on the 15.6" screen, you will get a larger visual area to work with, but the size of individual items will be smaller because of the higher resolution. If you brother's system is a 15.6" as well, you know what I am talking about.

Also, it looks like I will finally receive a few of the cables from Dell I have been waiting on since October. I will have (2) left after the commited ones are sent off.

If anyone is looking, I also have a new AUO B156HW01 v.4 screen that I will sell with or without a cable. It is 100% A+ tested with no dead or stuck pixels. PM me if interested.

I noticed a comment in the thread about laptopscreen.com sending out different screens than they are advertising..

Anybody got a fresh review on them? My normal supplier doesn't have the screen in stock so I'm looking around a bit.
Also is a compatible one that much worse?

Sorry for my late reply. For some reason, the thread updates didn't come through and I forgot to check regularly...

Thanks for your offer. But I prefer a V7. I managed to get one for $148 shipped, with a chance that customs snatch it and add another €25-30.

I got a cable from eBay. Atm. there are cheap offers. That is, cheap compared to Dell Europe, not America. You can view them here. It looks much like it's a Chinese clone from the original cable, like the ones you had made some time ago. The label looks like this. I don't mind, as long as it's working.

Okay i got everything to work. Something went wrong in the LCD swap though. I tested the laptop after screen installation before i put it back together and it worked like a charm. After installation i had an orange battery light above the keyboard which slowly faded away and the computer would only boot for 3 seconds then shut off. i ripped it apart again installed the old lcd but to no avail. I called dell and while i was on the phone with them the computer booted properly. i reinstalled the new 1080P AOU v4 lcd and it works perfectly now. Only one problem.......The orange battery indicator light is still there and it will not charge. when I plug in the laptop nothing changes except that the battery status of 26% never changes and time remaining on battery says 1213 hrs 54min. yes it says 1,213 hours remaining. Did i do something wrong in the LCD swap? I followed directions from this sight. ?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Okay so this morning my audio stopped playing right in the middle of a video and i was unable to get it to work. WIndows explorer also failed. My computer will no longer turn on with the battery installed. I reinstalled my old screen, called dell and the tech took over control of my computer but he was unable to fix anything. He said the motherboard is bad as well as the battery and a part that links the charger to the battery. A tech is being sent on nest week to replace all of this. My question is....Is there any way installing this new 1080P screen did this? I wouldn't imagine it could since it is the identical screen these laptops ship with.

Unless you short circuited something or touched the motherboard and transferred some static electricity while replacing the screen I doubt it was due to the screen replacement.

Which screen it is wouldn't matter.. with the wrong screen you should just get bad picture or no picture at all.

I all, found this topic via google because I was searching the same thing for my new Vostro 3550.
Anyone tried on this notebook?? 1366x768 is too low for me and want improve the resolution with a new display... searching on line seems that the l501x use the same display for the "standard" version of 1366x768 display.
So I think is possibile to install the model compatible with the l501x on the 3550 although on Dell site this HD Display is not available even as an option at the purchase.

It is surely possible to swap the display for a FHD version. But if the cable is not fully wired, you're screwed. When the FHD display isn't available as an option for this model, there probably isn't an FHD cable available.

You're right and it's the same thing that worries me. I should see if the original NO-FHD cable is the same provided with the L501x and Vostro 3550. In this case I could buy the cable.
There is a place where is possible to see the p/n for Dell products, like the HP Part Surfer?

Could be interest if fits in the Vostro 3550. At this moment I can't send PM, I'm a new user... by the way I live in Rome, Italy.
Making a rapid search via Google I've found that the original cable for the vostro 3550 is the P/N TPXMC, ( TPXMC | Dell Vostro 3550 LCD Ribbon Cable Working Pull.
Looking at the image seems that the connection for the LCD are correcly the same, what is different is the motherboard side. But if the connector is the same (and I think it is), can be simple to adapt the form of the cable inside the chassis...

    what do you think?

Sorry for the double post, but I was thinking: have you ever thought that the need to change the cable is connected to the difference in the display backlight?
The standard display of 1366x768 has a W-LED backlighting, while the three models that have been installed and certified from forum user's (LG LP156WF1 (TL) (B1) - AUO B156HW01 v4 - LG LP156WF1 (TL) (B3)) are B + RG LEDs.
Perhaps taking a display with W-LED backlight doesn't need to change the cable?

The difference are supported resolution. The original cable can only support HD panel but not FHD.

You got the cheap Chinese copy, which indeed doesn't fit. Return it to the seller and ask for a refund. Btw. the plug perfectly fits an HP motherboard, which is of no use to you.

I bought the same cable some time ago and was lucky to be able to return it. Now I have a genuine Dell cable, which is quite different. All other plugs on the Chinese cable fit perfectly well btw.

The problem is the width of the connector. For a comparison, I've measured the original and the Chinese connector and taken pictures.

The original connector (dimensions are in mm):

    The Chinese connector:

Some more pics of the genuine cable I bought and which is working fine:

I would not trust them since there is NO refernce to the acutal panel part number being shipped.

Some more legit looking sources are below. Regardless, always check with them first to confirm they are sending the exact cable and/or panel being offered.

Can some one tell me the difference between B156HW01 v7 and B156HW01 v4? I have the L501X and the Dell cable for the upgrade, and am back in the search for a screen to upgrade my laptop. Thanks in advance.

Afaik, the V7 is glossy and the V4 is matte. Both have the highest color gamut, where the V4's color gamut is slightly lower than the V7's.

    help!
my original dell x501x screen cracked, the BG+L 1080p glossy.
I ordered LP156WF1(TL)(F3) 1080p matt screen and went on the installing.
after I put in the new screen and turn it on, it just blank screen with backlit.
    what should I do?

Easy, connect your old panel to your EEPROM programmer, copy the firmware.
Connect the new panel to the programmer overwrite firmware. Whitelist bypassed.

However if you do not have a programmer... well...
Where did you buy this from? Not us I hope?

P.S. We have B156HW01 V.4 genuine, authentic, A+++, 3yr warranty, but I can't tell who we are and how to order from us.
