Update on my situation as well: I was told by Dell last Friday (June 4th) that I'd be contacted within a week. It's now the 13th and I'm still yet to hear from them. If I wasn't so busy the next few days I'd call them and tell them this is absolutely ridiculous. I'll give them until Friday this week (since I have other more important crap to deal with between now and then) before I try to contact them again.
In addition, I emailed them on Wednesday of last week offering screenshots of my fairly hot temperatures yet again, and received no response. I have an active case with them and had communicated with them via both means prior. This is an utter JOKE considering the price premium I paid for this machine.

Just an update... Yesterday, I called Dell to check on the status of my new replacement laptop as it hasn't had an estimated shipping date, and was still in production for over a week (I was mainly concerned about no "Estimated Delivery Date", so I had no idea when I was getting my laptop). Well, I logged on today, and my order has shipped, and my laptop is expected to get here on 6/15/10, even with overnight shipping
But yay! I will definitely take pictures. -
Polarix, did you find out what the spec of your replacement is?
Adam -
Yes.

Intel 6250 Wireless-N w/WiMAX (2x2) Mini Card -
Well I finally broke down and rang Dell again today since I had some free time. I was told that the replacement request was still under way. And, surprise surprise, they have no record of my e-mail I sent to the support rep last week. They told me to send it again, which I did whilst I was on the phone to him and he was going to follow it up. This is an absolute joke. This has happened to me twice now, where I've called or e-mailed them and none of it is documented against my service tag. This is soooo frustrated. I should get a call within a week on system replacement, he says. The main reason I called today was because I woke up to an e-mail this morning (an automated one) asking me to fill in a customer experience survey (which usually only happens once they close your case). Sooo annoying. Let's hope when they do come to the table with a new Latitude, the business support doesn't suck as much as the XPS support does.
-
wow congrats. great specs. new gpu too
-
Your system looks good & impending arrival is soon!
XD.
Gah.
No words.
Sorry your going thru this BS Zaraphrax. Don't let up with them, keep on em & keep "every little thing documented".
I would hop on chat or call in a few days..just to see how things are flowing based on what has happened above.

Previous System: XPS M1530 (Outlet):
Replacement System: Alienware M15x (Outlet):
-
very nice. congrats
-
Lucky! I want an M15x.
-
Kudos!!
(Again)
Speaking of....any feedback, today or, tonight?
Cin... -
None whatsoever. The executive email carpet bomb has resulted in a dead end. I will try it once again tomorrow. Next time I hit a dead end, I'm sending each executive 10 copies every day till I get a resolution.
-
Is there any way of actually checking the specs that have been ordered (just for reassurance purposes)?
I've been given the order and customer number but I've just got 'Work In Progress' message when I input that info -
Dell tech came to replace the motherboard and heatsink/fan, but only ended up replacing the Heatsink/fan, because the last replacement used too much thermal paste.
Anyway, after doing a bit of stress testing to see how the temperatures coped, how do you guys think it is. Read the temps on the right, as the temps on the left are from about 10 mins after stress testing.

looks good to me

Dell have offered to replace my M1530 with an Alienware M15x or a Studio XPS16. I've asked them if I can have a Latitude E6410, as I don't think I could deal with a 16:9 screen for work.
-
take the alienware! sell it if all else fails. thats a huge upgrade
-
benbeck08 does have a good idea, but that's taking the long route. Before doing that, see if they can just refund you whatever amount you payed for the M1530, then just buy the Latitude. They may not comply, and in that situation the Alienware is defiantly preferable for the build quality.
Definitely try for the refund first, since it looks like your M1530's original price would be significantly higher than the amount you would get if you were to sell the M15x. -
It is, but I'd prefer the Latitude. I don't play games, so I don't care about performance. The 16:10 vs 16:9 thing is kind of a deal breaker for me, so I want to see what they come back with first since I do actual work on my computer (I have very specific requirements due to some design software I use for work - I design SCADA and HMI for factories and it's very hard to layout screens which will eventually go on 16:10 screens using a 16:9 screen. I've tried it and it sucks).
The specs are very temping though.....Core i7 somethingorother with 6gb of RAM and a 5730 (I think? I don't have the PDF quote in front of me right now). -
tough spot to be in. would be hard to turn down such an upgrade imo. let us know what they offer you
-
Agreed. I'd take that Alienware so FAST!
-
Keep trying! Don't give up.
You could, try and keep on pushing for that Latitude..if that is what you really want. Or, go with the Alienware (and sell as suggested). But, keep in mind..how fast do you think you will be able to sell that Alienware? And, how quickly do you need to have use of a lappy, etc.
I think, if you stated your case on the Latitude vs. Alienware and what your uses have been of the 1530 comparable to the Latitude, that might have some pull for you?
Decide what you really want. Latitude, Alienware, or push for refund. : )
Cin... -
Yeah, the Alienware really wouldn't suit my needs as well. So that's what I'm pushing for. I e-mailed them back asking if I could have the Latitude for the reasons I specified here and have gotten no response (and it was nearly 3 days ago since I sent it....this is ridiculous).
The laptop is my main computer, and while the M1530 is holding up okay for the moment (only because it's cold weather), I can't be dicking around without a computer in the interim of selling the Alienware and buying a Latitude (nor can I come up with the dosh to buy the Latitude then sell the Alienware).
Should I ring Dell again today and see what's going on? It's ridiculous that it apparently takes 3 days to answer an e-mail. -
I would def give them a call. 3 days is wayyyy too long
-
I might get on chat and try that out.
EDIT: Apparently chat isn't available for my product in Australia. Blah. So I sent a rocket to unresolved issues
-
Glad you decided to go with Unresolved Issues. I hope you have some good better resolve with. You pointed out the dilemma with the Alienware, and wanting better solution with the Latitude, right?
Cin... -
That was in my original e-mail, yes.
-
Hey guys, I got my replacement approved and they send me the new config but it's a studio 15 not xps
Studio15:
- i7-840QM Quad 1.86 ghz
- WLED 1080p
- 6 gb memory
- 640 gb HD
- ATI HD5470 - 1gb <-- dont really like this, this is worse than 8600M GT right?
My old XPS1530:
- C2D - 2.2 ghz
- 8600M GT
- 3 gb memory
- 220 gb HD
Should I take it? I feel studio is a downgrade from XPS -
It is.... demand another XPS.
-
It's not a downgrade, but it's not much of an upgrade either. You'll be able to run all the stuff you did before and a bit more, while using less power and generating much less heat. Unfortunately the the M1530 is just a much nicer unit than the Studio. I originally was gonna go for a studio 15 with components similar to what they want to give you but I saw them in Best Buy the other day and the design and build quality absolutely pales in comparison to the XPS (M1530 or SXPS16).
-
I'll try and see then if i could get another xps. nothing to lose
-
Hope you hear back soon, then
Cin...
No. Go back and tell them you want to stay with the XPS 16xx. And for them to find suitable specs.
I cant remember if any of us 1530 owners in this thread were even offered a S15 as a replacement....
Cin... -
I've basically read the entire thread the other week and I'm pretty sure it's been all SXPS16's.
-
Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured that, or a Alienware....: ) OoOh, you did a lot of reading!
Cin... -
Just received the Order Confirmation through the post and it states the following:
Account Manager ARBECOMM
Account Manager Tel 0844 444 3792
Account Manager Fax + 353 1 204 4100
Account Manager Email [email protected]
Does this mean the replacement machine will be refurbished parts or is it just the formal process of the order to be placed the same way as the original order? -
Hmmm. I wonder if it is just part of the process or, if it is a replacement. You can wait until you receive your complete specs. Or, send an e-mail or give a phone call and confirm whether it's new or a replacement. Either, way you will need to find out. : )
Cin... -
I've just sent an email to Dell Outlet (the one listed on the confirmation letter) and I've just received a delivery unsuccessful message
-
Can you reply to the one that was sent to you (to see what happens)? Or, forward it? And, see what happens that way? I wonder if that was just a Auto Letter that you received?
Cin... -
It was a letter I received through the post
-
Ok, I meant reply back to the original e-mail...
.
You could try calling, but that's a toll call for you, isn't it?
Cin... -
I've just called Customer Service and they've confirmed that it's going to be a new laptop. So it must be standard procedure to provide the replacement by the original sales advisor
-
Excellent news for you I'd say!
Also, the way Dell sends out their correspondence can easily lead to confusion in the matter of a replacement vs. new, though for the customer.
Cin... -
I'm quite pleased about that and I've just checked my order status and it's finally moved to 'production', so hopefully it'll be on time.
-
woohoo, they finally gave me quotation on XPS 1645
- i7-740QM 1.73 ghz
- radeon HD 5730
- 6 gb memory
- 640 gb HD
- 1080p no RBGLED
- blu-ray drive
- 130w charger wt 9 cell <-- is this the big brick or flat battery?
the guy warned me that any more upgrade will be charged...
what do u guys think? accept? -
That's a great 1645, take it!
That nine cell battery does stick out. It sticks directly downward and allows for better airflow and typing angle. Call and see if they'll send you a six cell in addition to that one once you receive the laptop. -
When do they come out with the 740QMs in the US?
-
I doubt it and i couldn't find 6 cell opt either in dell's website when tried to customise. out of production perhaps?
-
They should have them somewhere. My 1640 was shipped with a nine cell, and they specifically said that they would send a six cell in addition to it later on if I asked them to. I never even asked for the battery since I got a refund instead.
-
def a good setup there. congrats
-
how much the back lifted with the 9 cells battery? i cant approximate with picts from the review.
Finally, my XPS 1530 being replaced due to GPU fails!!
