It's about the diameter of one cell, plus the plastic and then the rubber. Lifted about one and a half centimeters.

TAKE IT! That's one of the better replacement quotations I've seen in a while. Lucky you. Hopefully you get it promptly and without any hiccups on Dell's part. The 9 cell is bulky, but I feel like it's worth it for this system (Read: Its pros outweigh its cons). :p

    Oh that great news :)

I have pics some where I will attach, soon :D I have no problems with the 9 cell batt, I think it is nice. I like the elevation...I deal with it the same as I did with the 9 cell on my 1530. Its a replacement no need to fuss on a battery. : )

And, on the 6 cell. If you had a 6 & 9 cell originally at purchase with your 1530, they are supposed to spec that with your replacement.

I did not receive a 6 cell with my replacement 16xx, just the 9 cell. They had me wait until I physically received my lappy & then get on chat or phone (I did chat), give them my new Service Tag number & then they sent me my new 6 cell battery, along with my Travel Remote that was also missing from my order.

It was overnighted. And I simply sent back the 6 cell from my 1530, along with the Travel Remote, also. : )

When are they releasing the i7-740QM? I don't see it on the dell website. How did he get it in his replacement?

    in production now :D

I didn't have 9 cell on my 1530 just 6 cell so i would consider that as an upgrade.

Is the XPS16 factory default has the remote with it?
    it's on Australia's website tho... http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-xps-16?c=au&l=en&s=dhs&cs=audhs1

I think he took the configuration from one of the package...

Well, Dell finalllllly got back to me from the other day. I was told that the my request had been enacted upon, they just forgot to send me an e-mail me back telling me so. Great work, Dell.

After I asked about the Latitude due to the other options not being suitable, he came back and told me I could have an Alienware M17x because it has a 16:10 screen. I then asked them why I'd want to go from a 15.4" machine which is light as feather to a 17" behemoth which weighs a ton, puts out a metric ton of heat and has inferior battery life, especially when I'm studying and carrying it out at uni and when I'm taking it out for work. On top of all of that, I'd have to buy a whole new bag and it'd just be a nightmare to work with. He conceded my point and has gone to seek approval for the Latitude. :)

Yeah, it was a really tough choice whether or not take it. The Latitude will be better for me in the long run, though. I don't play games and it'd just be tooooooo biiiiiiiig for what I need. 14-15.4" is where it's at. :)

Yes, if you didn't have a 9cell to begin with..and only the 6 cell w/your 1530, then getting the 9 cell would be. : )

I don't think the remote is standard w/the 16xx. Unless, someone else can chime in on this.

Oh, I'm glad you have gotten to that point, at least :) :) Fingers crossed for you! I hope you hear back today with good news!

Wasn't sure. Thx. Glad I was able to get them to match it per specs on my 1530 nonetheless, then.

Alright so after another executive email carpet bomb, I receive an email and phone call from the same exact guy. It seems they are adamant on talking to me over the phone. Big time dilemma. I guess it's finally time to talk to them on the phone. I did get a phone number and extension so I'm pretty sure the call would go straight to him. Hmm

If you are going to do it over the phone and are worried about not having promises come through and having lack of proof, just have him email you the concrete points you guys agreed on after the convo??

Well that's not my main concern for talking on the phone. It's just that I'm not a very good talker and debating through a keyboard is MUCH better for me than doing it on the phone. However, that is a good idea. I wonder what they would do if a mute were to contact them. I mean it's ridiculous. I email and they keep insisting on talking to me over the phone. Ugh.

    Hey,
If you don't like having convo's on the phone where you have to debate etc. Why not type up a list of your "wants" from Dell, and have on there what they are willing to "do for you right now". You know have a *action list* in front of you. Things you can cross off as they are acknowledged by Dell, that they are going to be taken care of & what you need them to do, etc. :)

Have your specs in front of you...basically have everything in order from the beginning to current as to what has happened, and what you want them to do now..simply replace your lappy. And, at the end of the convo, have them email you confirmation with Case Number, etc. as to what they are going to do for you. :)

Be firm, polite..and accept nothing less then what you will be happy with, remember you are their customer. They are not yours. :)

ah i finally got my system back from the depot. Messed around with it for a bit and i noticed that the idle temperature is high than usual, it's around 6o. that's pretty weird. but the peak temperature seems to be lower, after a 20 minute gaming session, it reached 79. is that normal? are those ideal temperatures?

    thanks!

Idle is a bit high, but the load temps seem okay. Generally 80 under load is getting towards the top range of acceptable. It should idle at around 50 or a bit less, so I dunno what's going on there.

Yea i figured. According to the paper that came back with the laptop, they replaced the heat sink and the fan, no mention of the 8600M GT or the motherboard. So i am not sure if it got replaced or not. We will see how the systems holds up.

Do you guys reckon it's worth paying a bit extra to get the i5 540M? As it is, the i5 520M is faster than my T9500, and I don't really need any more power.....

If it's not mentioned on the service ticket, then chances are they didn't. I wouldn't expect it to play nicely for long. What were the temps like prior to sending it in?

So Dell called me again this morning...at 7:45AM!!! Grrrr. A minute into our conversation, I guess the rep realized what time it was and that I was half asleep and asked if he should call back later.

Alrighty then, I won't bother. I compared the benchmarks between my T9500 and the 520M and the 520M is a fair bit quicker anyway, so that's fine. :D

Temps are back up after 3rd attempt to fix the overheating issue

I replied saying that the temps were up again, and the guy has escalated it and his manager wants to talk to me over the phone.

Any ideas what he wants to talk about? ;)

Maybe they are going to confirm that you are going to get a replacement lappy, finally? That is what happened for me. I had to speak with the guys Supervisor, just so he could confirm that all order & that a replacement was to be issued. (The call was transferred at that time to his Sup') :)

I am not a happy man...

They phoned me as they said and I stated my claim etc etc.

I agreed that it will be repaired for one last time (4th), and that this repair will take place today.

No one has arrived, and I've just been stuck at home all day waiting.

    Time for a complaint.

After getting phone calls at 7:45AM, and not getting calls at the agreed times, I emailed the guy and said I will only communicate through email since the phone thing is not working out. Now he wants to send me a box so I can send them my computer for tests and repairs. I feel like I'm stuck on an endless loop. I already told them that I can't be away from my computer for such a long time (7-10 business days) the last time they asked me to send them my computer. ARRGGGHHH!!!!!!

Today I got my mobo + heatsink replaced for the 3rd time (3rd time on this replacement M1530 comp, 3 times before that on my old M1530).

The max heat has again abbaited from +95C to 81-83C so Im happy for the moment. I was glad to see all the replacement-approvals for a different system here though :) Ive got +450 days on my warranty so It just might come to that in the future :p

not much you can do, it is much better than your old comp, save for the screen. Are u sure its a 720p screen? Pretty sure the minimum it comes with is a 900p. Either way, your old screen was 1920, so your new one should be a 1080p screen as well, i would argue for that but apart from that there isnt much you can do.

    Hi folks...

So my XPS M1530 will be two years old this coming 9/16. The MB, heat sink and fan have been replaced twice (although the last time they do not have on record!). Last Thursday night I called again as the laptop was acting very naughty. I was originally going to get a tech sent out to replace parts. However, I asked the nice man what is required to get a replacement computer? He said 3 times MB replacement, but they only have 1 for me in the system. He put me on hold for two minutes and came back on, told me he got a replacement approved! Same as or better, like most of you, I was informed it would be a 1640 (refurb). I'm not worried about the refurb at all as I still have warranty left (and will extend it), and NOTHING could be as bad as the 1530! What a great big disappointment and so expensive! So the tech told me it would have Windows 7 64bit (I hated Vista) but that it would take 4-6 WEEKS to be built and shipped! Geez, whatever!. That was last Thursday evening, so imagine my surprise when my receptionist at work called me an hour ago and said "You have a package from Dell out here"!!!!! I was actually reading this forum regarding people's experiences when she called me! I can't believe it! This thing is gorgeous! Guess I'll be up late tonight playing! Just wanted to share my experience with you all.

I'm trying! But it's like talking to a wall. Today he told me (after I told him for the 3rd time that I can't send my system in for 7-10 business days) that it was the only option because since I couldn't talk to them on the phone, they couldn't troubleshoot and run diagnostics. So I emailed him back and said any instructions you would give me over the phone can be typed and emailed too. Or you guys can reinstate Dell Chat and we could go from there.

I've emailed Michael Dell about 3 times now. The man who I am in contact with works in his office...I think.

Guess what? After months of arguing with a Dell "higher-up" after sending him a letter regarding my problem and SPECIFICALLY stating that I did not want replacement parts, he offers me...REPLACEMENT PARTS!!! Yay Dhell is SO AWESOME!!! ugh. I told him to go back and read my original email.
