I guess it's out of my hands then. Anyway I was never expecting it to go all the way to a laptop replacement to begin with, so I will (try) not to complain. The one thing I'd really be happy if they gave me it would be the ATI Mobility 4670. That'd be a very nice upgrade from the 8600m gt. I hope you get that too Brewmastr. I'm praying for that one, lol. Thank you, I'll keep you guys posted on anything I hear.

I just got an order number for my replacement lappy! Did anyone else get Intel i7 processors with their replacements? I'm surprised they added it to my configuration, but I have no clue which GPU they'll install. When I called, the service agent just said that they plan to add an Nvidia card with 512MB ram... As far as I know, isn't the ATI 4670 the only card available for XPS 1645's with i7 processors?

I just wanted to report in. I had a chat session with Dell. My Adobe Elements wouldn't install on 64 bit. I never got a sleeve or a remote (which I had on my 1530) and I needed dummy cards for my express card slot and media reader.

I was turned down for all but the dummy cards. I didn't get all crazed about any of it because I didn't expect much.

I'm still loving the speed of my 1640 as well as Win 7.

Can't wait to hear the rest of your reactions.

Cin, you've got to be next!! Any sign that it's shipped?

From what I've read about throttling, and what I know about the heat i7 45nms put out, I would actually prefer 1647>1640>1645. In any case, I'd take a throttled, but functional 1645 over the M1530 to get away from the gpu issue.

I have confirmation that my M1530 is on it's way back to me, not sure how long it will take but at this point, I think my guess of Monday or Tuesday looks about right.

Now for something totally unrelated; chainsaws are fun.

indeed chainsaws are great, try chopping a tree without one, and with one, i think we can all agree the chainsaw is not only easier but alot more fun!

The only thing better is pulling a huge tree down with a car.

Have you guys seen the thread talking about exhaust vents on the sxps 16? Its talking about how some have an extra row of vents (5 instead of 4). How many vents does anyone who has received theirs have? That may be one more thing I'll request with the 4670.

You can get a Windows 7 64-Bit Disc and it'll install and activate fine with your existing product key

Weird, I explained that my M1330 came with a remote, but my XPS 16 didn't and I thought my system was suppose to be "equal or better". They sent me a remote. I didn't ask about a sleeve since my M1330 didn't come with one.

I don't know how they decide exchanges, I got a HUGE upgrade and my wait wasn't that long

    My original system
    XPS M1330 (Yeah, a 13" laptop)
    Core2Dou 2Ghz
    4GB RAM
    500GB HD
    nVidia 8400m GS

I got the system in my sig as an exchange. I was suppose to get a XPS 1340, but they cancelled that and sent me a 1640 instead..

I wish I would've gotten a bluray, but an upgrade from a 128mb defective POS to 1GB ATi 4670 made the deal

Why the clean install? Mine didn't come with any bloatware except Works and Paint.

How do you transfer/save files? I've been using Carbonite for the past two years and it's saved my life a couple of dead hard drive times.

    I always do a clean install. I like to :) It's just me...maybe.

Oh, well most of my stuff is on my External...when I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate I put most my stuff on External HD, and kept it there, so I shouldn't really have that hard of a time! :)
I just tend to get distracted when doing thing! LoL (so it takes longer).

M1530 didn't get back yet. Once I have it back I am going to play on it for so long, I miss gaming. I wish I we didn't have to go through all this for a predetermined ending, but Dell does have to make money somehow.

I can't wait for pictures of the two new 1640's!

    She is amazingly gorgeous.

    Wowsa.

More details to come. Typing on her now. The keyboard is sweet! I have never had a backlit keyboard!

Have some "tweaking" to do as such, to make her "mine".

I didn't get the "travel remote". I have to contact Dell about that later..as they need to ship me my 6 cell.

I already took way to many pictures! :p

    Thank you! :D

The sound is pretty sweet on this...I'm testing out the speakers as much as I can, since I listen to music so much! :D

One thing Win7 didn't detect was the accurate Time Zone..I mean it did, but it was an hour off. lulz.

I am doing a clean install later anyways, so all will be good. I manually changed it. I really like the keyboard. Getting used to the screen is a screen is going to be a bit of a change.

I think I'm going to order these Sony BT Wireless Speakers I found..they will be a nice add for this sweet lappy! :D

Thanks msboc! :D :D This thread has been such a "relief" and support whilst waiting for the 1640 to arrive... ;)

I believe she is new, not a refurb. There was no sticker "underneath".

And, I think it's RGBLED Screen. The size is 1920x1080, and under device manager this is what it says for the Screen:
    MONITOR\SEC5448

I don't know if anyone can help me confirm that or not! :)

I'm gonna try her out in the sleeve in a few.

    Cin,

I just looked under my monitor and it simply said generic monitor. There is no specific category for screen. Take a picture of your screen. Mine has about a 1/2-3/4 inch border around it.

I think you totally won THE PRIZE with all your specs and the fact it's new though I'm still in love.

In windows 7, i believe you right-click the desktop and select "screen resolution". The highest resolution (which should be the one you're on) should be your resolution.

Enjoy that bad-boy (or bad-girl) Cin'. Sounds like its a beauty...

SEC5448 is definitely the RGBLED. I keep my at the lowest brightness as to not burn my retina's, lol.

It's the Hardware ID. Right-click "Generic PnP Monitor" and go to Properties, last tab, keep scrolling 'til you see hardware ID. If it says MS_0001 or something like that, turn the computer off, battery out, battery in, turn on again. :)

Oh, and: YES! So happy for you guys. Whatever the nay-sayers say, this is prolly one of the best laptops on the planet. :D

Unfortunately not. It's probably the WLED, then, I would imagine?

From what I have heard, if the black bezel that is around the screen, if that black bezel doesn't exist between the screen and the metal hinge, it is the 16.0" RGBLED. Otherwise, if there is a black "gap" between the screen and the metal hinge on the sides, then it is a 15.6" WLED.

My M1530 would have been back today, but apparently I need to sign for it. I'll have my toaster back tomorrow. :p

Edit: Ikjadoon, the rgbled is really that much brighter? I know going from a ccfl to a wled is a huge brightness difference, but I have don't have a rgbled screen to compare to the wleds around. If you happen to also have a laptop with a wled I'd be interested to hear.

LOL...Get the bread ready!!! Nah jokes aside, apart from overheating, the xps m1530 will always be a monster in my eyes, a crippled one, but a monster none the less.

I really have to agree, it's a great machine other than the overheating and more importantly the faulty gpu's, which aren't Dell's fault. The overheating is though.

Even if I could live with the crazy high temperatures, I'm not going to take any chances. I'd be really mad if my gpu failed after my warranty expires. Even if it doesn't crash, downclocking makes stuff laggy.

All the negativity aside, I enjoyed gaming on this, and in my opinion it has the best non-backlit keyboard.

One funny thing is; I used this so much that I wore through the metal palm rest. It has these black spots where my sweat has corroded small holes into it over a long period of time.

I used a Studio XPS 13 today and I though it was pretty nice. The sxps 13's build quality is spectacular, and I've heard someone here say the screen wasn't good, but it's actually good. As a non-gaming machine, I would totally recommend it.

 Congratulations! Now immediately do everything you haven't been able to on a netbook, lol! I like how your mouse matches. My black logitech mouse matches my black M1530. That's the first time that has ever occurred to me.

I'm envious, have fun with it!

    Thanks guys..she is sweet... :)
Having a bit of a problem with the Bluetooth Connection though. Reinstalled the Driver last night, but for some reason, it keeps on failing to hold the bluetooth connectivity. And, under "Devices"...my lappy itself has some sort of issue. Have to take a further look at it tonight when I get home.
    Everything is fixable!
