You can also pull up a copy of the invoice and look at the bottom. Your service tag shows at the bottom of the invoice.
-
Not working for me? I'm at my system & peripherals page:
http://support.dell.com/support/systemsinfo/mysystemslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~ck=pn
and get this in the box...
No service tags have been added to the My Systems & Peripherals List for this account. Please enter a service tag above to activate your list. -
I'm looking at my invoice right now and don't see a service tag anywhere on that either?
Well... the XPS should be here anytime between now and the next 3 hours.
Okay, I found it... it was in the middle of invoice because I had more than one thing on order! -
I never could find that either. So I just called customer support and they gave it to me. Then I added it as a system and was able to see the specific part by going to the warranty section and looking at original system specs. I think the difference in my case may have been due to the fact that I ordered under student based EPP.
What will be worse for you, waiting not knowing what screen you got, or finding out immediately that you got the Samsung and thinking that in 3 hours you're getting a notebook with a screen you won't like?
Or should I just say, do you want to know the s*x of the baby before it's delivered? Yes, the word 's*x' is censored on this site. How inhibited. -
SO? What does it say?
-
At least you can return the screen...you certainly can't call the hospital and return the baby!
-
Here is what I have:
KR515 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2 -
KR515? Interesting. At least it's an LG so that's good! Oh ... I just looked closer, you got the WXGA+... OK, I was looking for XK309 as I thought you got the WSXGA+. I've heard good things about those too so you should be in good shape.
I just had the screen replaced on my D820... also WSXGA+. They sent me an LG for that too and the funny thing is the original screen was matte, this one is glossy. Anyway, it's nicer than the original, but not as bright or nearly as nice as the LG on my M1530. But, better than it was so I'm happy.
Let us know how that KR515 looks, Jack! -
Aw man, tough luck, they just gave you an LG. I got to play all kinds of games like "Dell Tag" and "Capture the Tech Support with the Flag" in order to get mine. You'll just have to sit at home messing around with your laptop when you get it.
-
Yeah, but the KR515 (LG) is not unusual for the 1440x900. You'll see as many of those as we see Samsungs on the WSXGA+. Kind of ruined the suspense when I saw it was not the WSXGA+! WIth those you have a great chance of geting a nice screen, with the WSXGA+ your chances are not too good.
-
FedEX just dropped the Dell Box off... C'ya!!!
I'll post with comments and pixs later.... -
Sonicwind
I just posted to clear up what I said, we have other folks that go through external forums. I really have my hands full keeping up with the boards I have on the Dell Comunity Forums.
I can't comment on how the Samsung screen looks compared to the LG because I haven't seen the two side by side and other then a thread in the Lenovo / IBM section of this forum I haven't seen anyone actually do a good side by side comparison of the two venders. -
I dunno how I did it but somehow I got someone to request an LG replacement screen for me! I'll post the entire conversation once I'm done.
-
Hello everyone,
Thanks for your help and information.
I had my XPS M1530 since Jan 2 and I had the problem with the samsung screen since the begining. I thought it was only me until i found your forum.
i called XPS tech support and i got my screen changed 4 days ago with another Samsung that had the same problem. so i called tech support again 2 days ago and asked for the LG screen. they were very nice and helpful and i just got my new LG screen installed today.
the difference is unreal. the difference between heaven and hell. much sharper and brighter, white appears white..
Thanks everyone here and thank you Dell.
-
Good for you. Yes, the difference is quite dramatic. Sounds like you had yours done Monday or Tuesday. Mine was changed out on Wednesday. Until you actually SEE the difference, you really cannot show it in text or even pictures.. you have to be in front of the real deal and then you say, "WOW!". Glad it worked out for you!
-
02/08/2008 02:37:47PM Agent (XPS_Bennett_152570): "Hopefully in the future there will be more clarity and more concrete resolution regarding the disparity between the two LCD panels."
02/08/2008 02:38:09PM ME: "i could not agree more"
02/08/2008 02:38:23PM Agent (XPS_Bennett_152570): "I have you service call set up. I've added a note requesting the LG panel, unfortunately that's the best I can offer for now."
Is this what everyone else has had done for them? I am praying it goes through as an LG screen. -
Score!
-
I'm not sure if it has worked this way. What I have seen more is the tech actually places the order for the LG screen, rather than placing an order for the non-brand specific kit and adding a note.
Even though I've had mine replaced, I can't stop watching the progress of this. For some reason I find it fascinating. All the stories that the Dell techs come up with and all the different opinions of the customers and the theories we all come up with in these forums. I'm pretty sure this is really all part of an experiment on humans that the aliens are behind. -
NO, as said before, I had the agent manually input the XK309, and comment the record specifically that it was not to be changed, substituted, etc. etc. The XK309 is what appeared on the service order, and it was what shipped... not a "request" as the agent made for you above. It was what was entered and ordered. I know you have been going on with this for quite some time. I hope you finally get lucky. Keep checking your service order status and see what part # appears. Anything other than XK309 and it's a long-shot you'll get the LG.
-
Man, you got that right. Hmmm... wasn't Michael Dell one of those aliens we saw in MEN IN BLACK?
-
Oh wow, this just gets better and better. So I called the customer care line to return my machine, and the rep I talked to said that instead she'd send me out an LG (she said LG) panel, then I get put on hold, and she comes back telling me she'd send me a LG AND a Samsung, and I could choose from among the two. According to the tech she talked to, the Samsung is the superior panel, but she said she would send me both and let me decide which works best. It's amazing what a difference a different rep. can make.
-
That is essentially what my rep told me, she said that she ordered the xk309 but she was "skeptical" about them actually shipping it to me. Two days later the Install guy called me to set up an appointment and I asked him "does it have the part number on the box?" and he shuffled around for a bit, and said "yes, xk309", I told him great and he was at my door in an hour.
-
[Sarcasm]Well that's just impossible, chia, because DELL_jimmy P just yesterday said, "Anyone telling you they can specify a manufacturer is just placating you." http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor...?board.id=Tech_Talk_XPS_Laptop&thread.id=4754
So there's no way that you could be being sent not just one, but even to screens of specific manufacturer origin. [/Sarcasm] -
Watched all these threads wearily, but I ordered my 1530 on Sunday, and it arrived today. I got the LG screen and no probs so far!
Good luck to all of you going through the customer service route. -
wow...if my replacement doesn't work out, im gonna have to look for a good tech, cause i really like this laptop.
these stories are amazing, of the two techs i talked too, one was completely clueless (atleast he acted like it), and the other guy was a total prick. the second guy was like "yeah yeah i know all about samsung vs lg LCD thing, theres no LG lcd, only samsungs...." so he completely lied. amazing! -
Alright, I decided to go ahead and re-read my chat session that ended up landing me an LG screen, and I totally forgot all the different lines I was told prior to the rep actually placing the order. So for all of you who have been told they can't do it, they are just biding their time until you keep coming back and annoying them for the new screen. JUST KEEP POUNDING AWAY, you will eventually get one. Here is my chat session, my name has been changed and personal info removed. I have highlight certain key parts, notice the different lines used to try and get me to "go away":
I really hope this helps, my LG is unbelievable. It makes my computer truly feel like a premium product. -
I got mine replaced today...swapped the AUO for......an AUO......
I will try again.
BTW...someone in here is in Lincoln, NE and had theirs replaced just yesterday in their 17" Who is it? Whoever you are, you apparently got lucky and got the LG screen, the tech told me.
I'd like a part number for an LG 17" 1440x900 Glossy. I have a lot of part numbers but not enough information to tell the manufacturer. -
Is there a chance my dispatch was "intercepted" by someone else for the LG panel and changed? The reason I ask is because I received my first email indicating a dispatch has been created, and then 4 hours later, I received another email for a dispatch, from a different technical support agent. Has anyone else experienced this?
EDIT: Well, just got off chat with Dell and apparently I now have TWO XK309's coming to me. I'm thinking if someone in my area needs a LG swap (must be WSXGA+) and has had no luck obtaining the XK309, PM me and maybe we can set something up. I am of course required to return the extra LCD, but I doubt they would care if it was a RW985 or a XK309
I am in the DFW Texas area, so again, PM me if interested.
*note* this ALL depends if I do actually receive the panels as XK309. I will keep anyone interested posted on this. -
I can't get over how much better the LG screen is than the Samsung. I know a lot of other people were saying it was so much better, but I thought they were exaggerating. It is SOOOOOO much better. I'd pay $200 more for this screen than the Samsung. Selling the Samsung and the LG as the same screen and at random fulfillment is just like if they only had one harddrive selection and some people got a 350GB 7200RPM drive and others got a 40GB 4200RPM drive randomly.
I played the screen swap with an earlier model, it was either a 9200 or a 9300 and while the LG was better, it was only slightly better in terms of the grainy/sparkly effect. Interesting, I was doing a search on the 9200 specs and ran across a review with this line of text in it "We should note that the antiglare coating on the Inspiron 9200's WUXGA screen creates a somewhat sparkly effect that's most noticeable against white backgrounds." This is back at the end of 2004. I think it's actually a non-glare screen. I think the gloss TrueLife screens were not released until the 9300. -
Quick question for anyone who might know: whenever I check the service call status, it always comes up as "no information found" for my order, even days after the tech has been out or whatever. Question is, how long does it generally take for Dell's website to reflect that kind of information? Last time I only knew my LCD part number by directly asking the tech on the phone. I never once saw the information for the service call under the check service call status.
It seems like some people are actually able to see this information before the tech or item arrives to their house. Any ideas or clues as to how long Dell's website can take to refresh? Calling a tech every time I want to know about my service call is becoming annoying. -
I got my new M1530 today. Purchased it on Sunday the 2nd. Turned it on, logged into Vista, and immediately saw the grainyness. I can't stand it. It looks like someone poured a thin film of oil all over the screen, and then blew dust all over it.
I was hoping I'd get lucky and all the Samsung displays would have gone out of circulation as Dell switched to the LG's, prior to my machine getting built.
Looks like I get to spend some quality time on the phone with Dell customer service now. -
Does anyone know what brand this is?
15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., TLF -
I've been able to see mine within minutes of getting off the phone or out of chat with Support, every time. Either the dispatch was not entered correctly, like wrong customer/system or something. Or you are not entering in the search information correctly. Are you searching by your service tag number?
-
Unfortunately, it's basically just an "WSXGA+ LCD Replacement Kit". When it actually ships, the part # should change to something more definitive. Does it show as shipped and still says that?
-
The order is not coming up at all on my screen even though I received an email saying the dispatch has shipped. I am talking with a tech guy right now and he claims
10:44:04 PM Agent XPS_Zachary_157313
No, I would need to break down the part number for the LCD kit, but unfortunately the tool that allows me to do that appears to be down for maintenance. It should be the Samsung screen that shipped with your system originally though.
I don't understand why the dispatch is not showing up at all on my screen. Maybe it was because the order is under Small and Medium Business since I used the triple A discount.
Nevermind, he just informed me..... it's a Samsung... -
Might as well just cancel it.
-
I'm just gonna have the tech guy confirm for me it's a Samsung and tell him not come. There's really no point. I thought I actually had one this time. O well
-
whats the take on the samsung XR860 screens?
got nothing on it in google. -
Is that what yours shipped with? I have never heard of that part number? Any other details on it in your order.
-
You might be better off just sending the whole machine back and getting a new one. You might stand a decent chance seeing the LG on a new one vs. all the replacement parts. At this point, with everything we've heard here who knows anymore! ?
-
I don't think that's a screen part number. Might be part of the screen frame or something. I'd go back and look through the parts list again. Do a text search for SAMSUNG or LGP for the actual LCD panel part.
-
Where do you live? I believe that is a part # for screens shipped to the Asian market.
-
Yeah that's true, the 500 dollar sale isn't suppose to end until the end of February anyway. So i'll probably wait at least a little while before ordering another one. Plus this notebook has some screws tightened too loose so it doesn't lay completely flat either. And I just don't have a good feeling about this one anyway. Everything seems like its been used before, especially the case.

I have a hard time giving anyone advice about what to do about this. I don't want to advise anyone to return their notebook, because I feel like that's just my opinion. I went through so much crap trying to get an LG, I don't think anyone should have to go through that either. That night I waited on hold for 30 minutes to talk to that rude, antagonistic "support" person only to have him hang up on me really made me feel bad. I won't be doing this again. If Dell continues with this issue, on my next notebook I'll order once, and if the screen is bad I'll call up to return it, and if at that time the service rep will quickly and with no effort guarantee me a good screen I'll try that once.
-
Guess you'll have to wait and see on that one, although I'd have been a heck of a lot happier to see ANY form of LG rather than Samsung!
-
Wow, mine is solid as a rock. I would not accept anything like that. Send it back. Always trust your gut.
-
yea i can always return it, and keep the macbook.
its screen is probably the best ive ever seen.
anyone else, heard of Sammy XR860 -
That's interesting, I didn't know other Samsungs existed other than the RW985. Maybe it's a different Samsung.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

maybe its a screen made by samslung in a "collaborative effort" with LG?
here's to hoping its not a turd when it gets here!
RW maybe made months ago, XR maybe recently.
but its an outlet machine, makes me wonder why it was returned
How do I fix my m1530 Grainy Screen?
