Hello everybody. I´ve read the first 20 pages and the last 7 pagesin this thread....I cannot read all 119 of them, so sorry if there is an answer already to the questions I have- maybe you can post the answers again or direct me to them.
I have bought my XPS from the Dell Spain website, as I live in Madrid, and on the back it says Made in Ireland....so I have that version. I definetely have grainy screen, no question about it - I have WXGA 1280x800.
But I cannot find the manufacturer from the Device Manager-Monitors-Properties- Details- Id Hardware because it just displays "MONITOR\Default_Monitor".
...also in the "Device Instance Path" it sais DISPLAY\MONITOR\DEFAULT_MONITOR\5&207E0375&0&UID280 ....now the last part "5&207E0375&0&UID280"
I don´t know if it means anything but it is identical to a user that had a Samsung display. It seems that Dell made some changes to make it impossible for us to idetify the manufacturer.
I also tried Everest Ultimate and Sisoftware Sandra but these programs cannot display any kind of information about the manufactures, ID´s...no details what so ever.
I have contacted Dell Tech Support Spain and asked to talk to an operator in English, but he wasn´t available so he will call me today. The problem is that I have the laptop for 55 days now, and I have the 1 year Base Warranty
SO-my questions:
1- is there any other way to find out my display manufacturer??? maybe a web adress where I can run my Service tag?
2- Can I get the screen replaced after 55 days, having only 1year Base Warranty ?- and , with this type of warranty, if they agree with the screen change, will they sent
a technician to my house with a replacement OR will I have to ship the laptop back to Ireland on my own expense?
3 - Is there a LG replacement option for 1280x800 screens in Europe, or for the XPS´s that were made in Ireland? And if so, for the 1280x800 resolution wise, is LG better than Samsung?
PS- I also got problems with the HDD that makes loud, metallic clicks from time to time and that caused once a crash-that is I got the Blue screen of death,
and also some heat issues (I don´t know what the normal temperatures are, I could not get any info on that , but the CPU reached 75 degrees Celcius under load.....although I don¨t
know how reliable the software I used is) ....if anyone got these issues too , please reply. Thanks!

I got Mine on Monday and it's got the SEC3350. Now bearing in mind that I'm comparing it to a Dell from 2 years ago with a 800 vertical Res screen, I quite like the screen. I think I'll keep it
No dubt some of you will think I'm accepting second best here, or not all SEC3350's are reated equal.
-
I have no idea how customer care will handly it as I've not had to go through this process myself (and hope not to), but from what I've read here on these forums, some users have had a very easy time ordering that specific part number, while others have not had an easy time. Guess its just luck of getting a good CS Rep.
<edit> You cannot order a specific panel when you place an order for a laptop. You can only order a specific part number as part of a warranty replacement, not as the original order. </edit> -
Okay, so I'm thinking about buying one of these m1530s and I saw this thread.
Is there any LCD option that guarantees that I don't get this supposively crappy Samsung version? I see they offer 1280x800, 1440x900, and 1680x1050. -
For all those comments that do not want to read the 120 pages of this thread to get an answer:
1. It will only take you about 20 minutes to read the entire thread.
2. I spent the 20 minutes and got a beautiful screen. So you decide if 20 minutes is worth it to you but don't ask the same questions that were already answered on page 21, 32, 47, and 63. -
No guarantees but the odds are better you would have issues with the 1680x1050...but now we are seeing peeps who are getting good Sammies...so who knows ...
-
OK...so I just off the phone with the tech rep from Spain, the only one in the country that speaks english it seems, and I got NO LUCK.
At first he was willing to help me, very nice, I told him I have a problem with the screen and also I have a usb that is kind of hard to use because I have to push harder to get the devices in
, and he was like "OK, I will change your screen and mainboard" but I told him I don´t mind that much the usb stuff so I want to keep the mainboard, but after I told him I also have heat
and HDD problems he was "Definetely change the mainboard, also screen and hdd".
Then I told him I have the RAM memory from 2 different manufactures : Kingston and Hyundai (I dont know if anyone else had this problem, never head about it though) and he
admitted that that is not normal and I should ask about it the tech support guy that they will send to my home the next few days (THIS guy on the phone thought I have the 3 year
warranty that comes with home service but I have only the 1 year warranty...so I got lucky here )
AND NOW: the bad part- I told him I was unable to identify the screen manufacturer , but that I want an LG as a replacement.
He said that that he only sees a code , not a manufacturer name when he places the order and that he cannot tell me from that code the manufacturer(1 LIE) but when I gave
him the code P/N RP636, saying that I think I have this one he said that this is SAMSUNG screen = so he can tell the manufacturer by the code = he was lieing.
Then I told him I want LG with P/N NU763 (LG for 1280x) and he was like " I am not supposed to do that but I will make an exeption this time....after wich I was on hold while he placed
the order"
After 10 minutes he comes back saying that the order is placed but he cannot tell me if they are sending LG OR SAMSUNG because IT IS CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION that the
customer is not supposed to know...also the P/N in CONFIDENTIAL and that I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO TELL THE MANUFACTURER IN ANY WAY; NOT FROM DEVICE
MANAGER OR OTHETWISE AS THAT IS CONFIDENTIAL = BIG B**LSH1T
Then I told him that other users on the planet can tell the manufacturer and the can get an LG , but he was feeding me lines like "You have to think big. If all customers that call here can
order the parts they want by manufacturer it will be chaos"....=>SO from what he says I am not supposed to know anything : the manufacturer of the HDD, DVD, PROCESSOR...anything
(I recorded this conversation for future purposes ...cause I think I have a long battle ahead of me).
But he said that he placed an order for a replacement kit (so 99,99% probability is SAMSUNG), not only screen....so IS ANYONE OUTHERE THAT GOT AN LG WITH A
REPLACEMENT KIT?
I told him I dont want to change the screen and have the same problem but he was like "OH, dont worry...we will change the screen again and again and again and again...until you are
happy" - AT this point I think he was making fun of me
BOTTOM LINE: The latest fashion from Dell, which started from Spain but soon will take the Globe, is to say that the manufacturer of the components in CONFIDENTIAL
INFORMATION. That is some butterfly effect for you. -
I'm sorry but someone mentioned a way to find out what screen you were getting when they shipped your pc out but I forgot what topic it was in, does anyone know of that? I ordered my m1530 on 3/16 and it should be shipped hopefully on the estimated date of 3/24 or hopefully sooner. Thanks.
-
Request an invoice from Dell. In there you'll find your service tag. After that, go in your Dell.com account at My systems and peripherals and input the service tag. It will show you the complete list of components.
-
Thank you very much. + Rep for you.
-
Lao, I am from Romania as well, but I bought the laptop from Spain, and next week I am coming to bucharest for a couple of months. Is there a Dell Service in romania or should I resolve my problem while still in madrid?
Also , in the list of components that shows on my Dell account there is no information on the part number for the screen. Any idea how to find out? (device manager wont display anything, and the tech support guy said it is confidential information. dc vrei s vb p mess am adresa langelo7)
Thank you. -
looking at my screen on the right upper corner area , its darker then the rest
of the screen
is there a term describing this? -
mine shipped today according to the dell site. I will keep my fingers crossed, however im not expecting much. -
well i just saw my service tag and it says that i have a samsung screen
-
Thought you guys would enjoy the BS from dell concerning my grainy Samsung.
Agent (Sateesh_148042): "As I can see from the records, the model number of your system is XPS M1530, the operating system is Win Vista and which has a valid warranty up to 10th March, 2009. Am I correct?"
Jeff Foster: "Sounds correct."
Jeff Foster: "I have done some research on this and it seems to e directly related to the Samsung LCD display, part nmber SEC3350. Apparently, there is an LG display that people prefer."
Agent (Sateesh_148042): "Jeff, I would like to inform you that there is no LCD manufacturer has set some basic quality for the LCDs. It is a manufacturing defect or the LCD has gone bad that is the way in which they are manufacturing the LCDs."
Agent (Sateesh_148042): "It is just a perception that the LG display appears better than Samsung."
Jeff Foster: "No, I have found numerous instances where customers had similar problems with their Samsung displays. These were replacedby LG displays and they were happy."
Agent (Sateesh_148042): "Okay."
Agent (Sateesh_148042): "Jeff, I really understand your concern and it is defiantly frustrating to have some issues with a new computer. I am more than glad to inform you that my supervisor would like to have a word with you."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Hi Jeff, this is Adithya, I am a supervisor."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "I am told that you observe a grainy nature on the display, is that correct?"
Jeff Foster: "There is a secondary issue that I need help with as well - although, not a technical problem. As I understand it, Dell has a 21day satisfaction guarantee? The day that my machine shipped, Dell started offering the T9500 processor. I had originally want"
ed this but it was not available. Is it possible that I will get a good LCD if I return the laptop for one with the T9500 processor?
Jeff Foster: "Oh, hi - Yes, it is grainy and the brightness is uneven."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, before we proceed firstly there is no industrial quality guideline for LCD Grainy nature and these guidelines have to come from the original manufacturer such as LG or Samsung."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "From our side, we screen the displays to make sure that there is no performance issue that can hamper viewability."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "The nature of these displays is not just Dell specific, but also observed across products from all other notebook manufacturers."
Jeff Foster: "I understand. If there weren't dozens upon dozens of people with the same problem, I would mention the LG screen."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, I can offer replacing the LCD display, however please keep in mind that we use a rotational stock of components and parts in our warehouses and even if I use the part numbers that are meant for the LG model, I cannot assure you that you will receive"
a LFG display.
Jeff Foster: "I havetwo other notbooks on my desk right now, 3 and 5 years old, both of which are more consistent and less grainy. I am an ITprofessional for a living, so I see my share of LCDsWhle I agree, they vary from manufacturer to manufaturer - I'm surpris"
ed that Dell continues to ship a model that so many people have complained about.
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "This happens because the LG display will be substituted with a Samsung automatically if we do not have stock of the LG displays in the warehouses."
Jeff Foster: "Ok, how about this then. Did you see my other message about wanting the T9500 processor?"
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, looking at the two requests, my suggestion would be that you speak with customer care and return the system, since I see that you are not completely satisfied with the system. Also, when you return and reorder, you can select newly added configurati"
ons that are available for the system at the present time.
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "From our side, I am just being honest with you in explaining the nature of the issue that you report about the LCD. As explained, I can offer a replacement LCD, but I cannot promise that it will be a LG."
Jeff Foster: "I see. At that point, perhaps I will either get a better Samsung screen or an LG. Is there any way to put special notes on an order to specify an LG? Im afraid that ifI get another pooe LCD, I will return it for good - I cant be down for the time it wo"
uld take to send another laptop back.
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "It is your choice. If you wish that I proceed with creating an order to replace the LCD we will proceed with it. If you wish to speak to customer care and have the return processed, you may do so."
Jeff Foster: "I understand and I appreciate the honesty. All I can ask for reallyHonestly then, I'll tell you that I picked Dell because I knew that if I had a problem, there would be less hassle.
"
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, there is no way we can assure you of a LG Display."
Jeff Foster: "Yes, lets process a return then. If that one looks as bad as this one, maybe then I will see about getting the screen replaced."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "As explained, from our side we are running a screening process to reduce this variant display as much as we can. However, being the way the LCD itself is manufactured, there is little we can do to rectify it from our side. Efforts are in progress to work"
with the manufacturers to ensure that we find a solution to this as fast as we can.
Jeff Foster: "You should see the picture that I took of this display. It's really bad."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, I would request that you speak with customer care about the return. Because, from our side we process returns only if the system has a complete technical failure and this case, it is not exactly a design or system failure, but rather an issue that i"
s beyond Dell's control for the LCD grainy nature.
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "You can speak with them by calling 1-800-624-9897 between 09:00Am and 05:00Pm Central Time on all days of the week."
Jeff Foster: "Can you helpme process a return based on the fact that dell offered the T9500 the same dya mine was shipping? Or is that still a phone call?"
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "That I am afraid needs to be done from customer care's end. The reason being that it is an order related query and we have access for replacements only for parts present on the original order."
Jeff Foster: "I see."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "If we could proceed with the processing, I would have done so by now. They on the other hand do not process such requests for technical issues, because we handle purely the technical side of the system."
Jeff Foster: "Ok, I'll give them a call. Thanks for your help. I'd like to suggest to Dell that they not use this screen any longer, or have Samsung fix the issues. Too many people have had problems with these for it to just be a difference in opinion. Thanks again"
for your help.
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Jeff, thank you for joining us at Dell Chat. You feedback is appreciated and will be used in helping us improve our quality and service level."
Agent (Sup_Adithya_105627): "Thank you for your time and patience today. Is there anything else we can assist you with?"
Jeff Foster: "Thats it" -
Once you have your service tag logon to your Dell account and go to My Systems & Peripherals like previously mentionned. -
Hey guys so i contacted dell (laptop shipped today) got my service tag # and this is what it says for the lcd
DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2
not sure but at the end it says LGP, V2 is that the LG? and if so did i get the good screen? i know everyone else was saying the Xk309. -

Then again, ignorance is bliss. -
LOL...I have had many opinions on my screen from peeps who have their own to compare to so I made an informed decision.... given all the paranoia..keep in mind it is only the complaints that you hear which is small compared to the wack of pcs dell churn out..if some are LG lemmings just getting their laptops ripped apart just for the sake of an LG screen...knock yourselves out...as soon as peeps hear they are getting that screen they don't even look at it and already decide to send it back...that makes no sense ..just my soapbox rant...but whatever floats every one's boat I guess...
-
Removing the nasty Samsung screen and replacing it with the LG was the best $225 I've spent in a long time considering I use my laptop 8-10 hrs a day doing photo and video editing. The LG is so white and clear compared to the purplish sparkle/window screen effect of the Samsung...
-
I also have a Alienware Aurora M770 17" which looks brilliant next to the M1530 Samsung panel. Even my work ThinkPad T60 looks better.
With the amount of complaints regarding the Samsung panel I suspect it's more than just paranoia. The 2 RW985 Samsung panels i've seen so far were grainy and viewing angles did not even come near what the M1530 manual says they are.
So again if you're happy with yours good for you, don't call the rest of us lemmings for wanting what we should have received in the first place. -
Did you sell your Samsung panel? -
?
-
-
I'm saying get a good screen but people returning 3 rigs before they even see them makes no sense...the look and quality is #1 not the brand..and I hear ya as i dropped mucho bucks and was concerned but it can get people into seeing issues that may not be there ..just well I got a samsung so I must return it..thats all...but that is basically it....every manufacturer has had issues.. all I'm saying is at least give the thing a chance and I know it is only a few that are doing this ...oh well cheers!

It's been mentioned that there's a rumor that DELL is discontinuing use of the Samsung LCDs.
Has anyone ordered an m1530 in early to mid-March and still received a (crappy) Samsung screen? -
Into production on 03/03, shipped on 03/06 with a Samsung panel.
This thread has many many posts with mention of Dell discontinuing Samsung panels. Yet to be proven. -
Dell finally convinced me that I don't matter -
dell told that to me mine went into production 3/11 mine shipped today with a LG panel. also you have to take into consideration there is different dell facilities where im sure they ship from and build them. maybe the one you ordered from had a overstock of the samsung panels while another had all lg panels.
-
Yeah, I ain't touching one of these with a 10 foot pole until this issue is resolved. I don't have the stamina like some of you to deal with tech support, repair guys, and shipping stuff back and forth.
The only real reason I'm considering DELL is because of the interest-free financing promo. The reality is there are some comparably-equipped, cheaper ASUS models out there that are starting to look extremely attractive compared to this mess. -
-
My laptop arrived yesterday, it's an Inspiron 1525 but since it uses the same screen as the M1530 I think it's best to just post it here.
I decided to first check it and see if I liked it, before I would check from which manufacterer it came. So I did and I found the colors to be very nice, white showed as white and the viewing angles are great. The only thing that bothers me is that, when backlight at full, black isn't, well, deep black. You can actually see the backlight.. do you get what I'm trying to say? It isn't much, is it normal?
I checked the Hardware ID and it shows; LPL0301, that's LG, right? -
My T7800 based M1530 was shipped on 3/10 and had a very very crap samsung. I returned it and re-ordered a T9500 - ship date of today, so we will see.
Jeff -
Alright, so i looked at my service tag today and I also got the:
DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2
So is this a good screen? I read someone else got the DW306 in this forum but that it might be a newer one (??), not much other information. -
thats the newer LG panel its suppose to be good. so you're good
-
Guys I need help here. Did anyone successfully took a comparison picture between a good LCD and a grainy LCD?
Mine is Samsung WXGA and that thing is grainy. If I use my lappy under bright illumination fluorescence lights (aka in office), that crappy Samsung LCD really looks ugly.
My CSR said she can replace the LCD with LG if can I send her a comparison picture. It really difficult to take a good picture to show and prove the sparkle effect. My photography skill also not very good either. -
Mine is not shipping until the 27th
-
-
I ordered 2 m1530; the first was last month and the second is shipping as I write this... The first has the Samsung screen WSXGA+, while the second has the LG WSXGA+ screen. I will caution you that the Samsung is okay for my wife as she has not complained. I do see the grain on white and it is distracting for me, especially after reading this thread (I've learned to stop reading this thread, it only makes it worse! yet here I am again). I will definitely compare the two, side-by-side...
-
I have the KR515 LG and it is great!!
-
OK, so my replace order has been cancelled and postponed 2 times already. I think that Dell Spain has the worst attitude towards clients in the world. ( I mean who heard that the manufacturer of your computers components is confdential information). STAY away from spain- buy in portugal or france. good luck to us all, long live lg.
-
well i got my xps today had the LG DW306 screen however it was super dark and they had me run a test and its a bad lcd screen. The rep could only find part # y274c in the system. He said he looked for the one i had "dw306" and it did not exist.
So he added in the notes to replace with either dw306 or XK309. Hopefully i get one of the two i will be super bummin if i get the samsung. I will of coarse not settle for anything but the best screen.
Sucks i never even got to see the thing boot up in its glory. Now i have to wait til next week sometime for the tech to replace it.
well i talked to them again and in my notes they mention to two model numbers but they said they dont come up when they use the screen to order THAT part. So hopefully the tech brings me the LG im guessing since my first boot didnt go so well i dont see the replacement goin my way either. -
Have called Dell Australia about 4 times, each time I get brushed off by the techs who are well aware of the issue (in fact they mention "grain" or "we can't give you a lg-philips" before I even say anything)
They still refuse, saying it is within specs, will have to wait till Tuesday due to holidays and take it up with customer care -
Unlogic,
Here are some photos, I hope they help. The other monitor is my desktops (HP).
Good luck!Attached Files:

My 1530 shipped today.
DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2
How does this compare to the Samsung SEC3350? -
Nothing really compares to the Samsung SEC3350. It sets a new standard in LCD panels. Any other panels pales in comparison to its' lack of viewing angles and grainy appearance--even the AUO panels fail in comparison.
Yours will hopefully be a great panel--unless you get the rare lemon, then you get to do the Dell replacement "dance". Any manufacturer ships a poor quality part on occasion. Samsung has just seemed to perfect the process.
The amazing thing is that Samsung is considered a standard for excellent quality in LCD screens. Evidently, Dell is getting their poorest quality models. -

My 1530 just got shipped today. I gave birth to an LG display ..... DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2
IT'S AN LG!!!!
How do I fix my m1530 Grainy Screen?
