Not all Samsung LCD screens are as terrible as the ones they're putting in these laptops. Dell probably uses them because they've got to be the cheapest ones Samsung sells.

If you look at the home theater market, Samsung LCD HDTVs are always right at or near the top. Their TVs can look better than some Sony LCDs that cost $1000 more.

Yes, the samsung screens in the M1530 suck, and yes, their CEO has been doing some crappy things, but I doubt that he actually had anything to do directly with the screen in your Dell.

Yes, the replacement arrived today! Its an AUO 2077 and it looks AMAZING. Its sooo much brighter and clearer then that crappy samsung! it was deffinitly worth my 5 hours on the phone for it. Also, I cant imagine the LG being any better, this thing is VERY nice

Would anyone like some photos to compare?

Well I just rang Dell to find out how far off the XK309 was.

Because the f*ckers can't understand nor speak English, it is noted on my service record that they are sending out ANOTHER RW985 and if its no good again, then XK309 will be sent out. I'm also informed it could take 4-6 weeks to get it because there is no stock, and thats if I'm not happy with the next RW985. They don't give up do they!!

OF COURSE I'm not going to be happy with the f*cking RW985!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I got an AU Optronics 1440 x 900 this week for a UK-ordered unit and it's grainy, has horizontal lines when text appears on white, and brightness and viewing angles aren't too impressive. It's going back.

well I'm returning my 1530... can't get a screen replacement. It's funny how the guy I spoke to for returns offered me 75, then 100, then $150 to keep my laptop. When I said I wanted to return it again he was like is there anything I can do to make you want to keep it and I said give me the display that I want... and he's like oh I can't help you, let me process the return. Then I was on hold for 10 minutes.

So I know some people have said if you order through a sales rep you can specify the parts you want. If I did that and asked for a LG would I get it? Are they reliable? or do they just tell you you're going to get an LG and then send out some other part? Any info would be helpful, thanks.

For clarification's sake, I just ordered a M1530 with the 1440x900 LCD screen, is this problem exclusive to just the 1680x1050 version? Or am I at risk as well? From what I've read, it seems like the problems occur mostly in the 1680 version...

If it's any help, i'm based in the U.S.

one of the guys on dell xps chat told me they no longer had samsung screens made... but then another guy coudlnt' confirm it... it's the only thing stopping me from getting this laptop... that and the hope of a larger LED screen.
Does the issue also greatly affect the current 1440 LED?

yeah I was thinking that too, but its about $300 for a refurb LG display so in the end I'm still paying extra for something I should have gotten in the first place.

I talked to a sales rep today and he said I can't specify parts when I order... which is totally opposite of what I was told. The sale rep was like why didn't you ask for the part when you had the screen replaced. I said I did... and that tech support said the only way I could get the specific part was if I returned the laptop and ordered through a sales rep. Guess that was a lie too.

This thread is still up? hahaha! good for Dell. Everyone it's simple as this...I am one of those who got the XK309 LG philips screen back in Febuary. Keep pushing till you get your replacement. I got mine through e-mail and a few routine chats that other wise said blah! blah! blah!

Ok i just got my new m1530 exchange order today. I was told by the rep that i would not be recieving the LG screen, that they are only shipping out the Samsung displays. I *****ed and *****ed and I finally got someone to agree to sending a tech out after the laptop arrives to do a screen replacement, i even have a case number to do this. Well to my supprise i booted up my laptop expecting to see a ****ty screen and i was greeted with beautiful clearity! I knew right away that this wasn't a SamSuck display. I went and looked at my monitor properties and it was surely the "LPL010F" LG display.

I will tell you right now that this display is like night and day compaired to the samsung SEC3350 display. If you have a ****ty Samsung and get discuraged by the Dell support telling you NO NO NO keep trying!! It is sooooo worth it.

I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE LG HAS COME!!

Also as i have send in prvious posts, speek with XPS support about this issue, don't bother calling the general customer care, they wont help you. The Rep that did end up give me the case number was a XPS chat support rep, i only got discuraged from calling.

The screen resoultion i have is 1680 x 1050. I don't know how the other Resolutions look with the Samsung but i can tell you it was hell with mine. Because everything is smaller with my resoultion it was extreemly hard to handle the grainy screen. The LG is beautiful and not at all hard on the eyes. It is brighter and so perfictly clear, not grainy at all!!

    :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hi all. I was one of those that jumped on the bandwagon when the XPS line was having their $1099 sale in April here in the US. Of course my system came stock with the WSXGA+ (1600 x 1050), no naturally, I jumped at it.

Perhaps this is why the systems were all all sale with this particular LCD setting. I feel like that is some shady marketing on the part of the Dell. Anyhow, I hope to go through the same hoops and hurdles to get a LG screen should mine turn out to be grainy.

No guarantee that the LG will not have issues either, just for kicks I purchased a Dell 1525 Inspiron a few weeks ago to see how the budget dells fare,I was pleased to see that it indeed had a LG 1440x900 resolution LCD Panel, but as soon as it arrived and I booted it up,it was evident that it too suffered from the same grainy look that all the Samsung Panel owners were upset about.I've also purchased 3 Lenovo T61 laptops in 2 months, all 3 had grainy LCD Panels as well.
What worked for me after talking to various customer service reps and technical support = WASTE OF TIME,I then asked for return dept. They will do just about anything to keep you from sending a PC back for a refund. I did not want a LCD replacement because you shouldn't have to tear apart a brand new Laptop to make it right. So they are building me a new one,I told them I did not want the same Vendors Panel AUO,and they were cool enough to configure the LED 1440x900 panel instead, that was impressive if thats actually what is in the new Laptop when it arrives.

I was trying to decide between the 1920x1200 CCFL and the 1440x900 LED and, given the 3 week delay I would face with the 1920x1200, I went for the 1440x900. I'm not dealing with the 1680x1050 anymore.

So, time to see if it will actually be a good screen.

I got my new XPS 1530 today...well better put my friend, who is buying it for me got it (in US, since it was cheaper to buy...I live in Europe). And according to the service tag, I have XX726 AU OPTRONICS screen in 1440x900 rez. I havent seen the ntbk yet and he cant tell a difference from 1GB RAM and 1GB HDD.... so I didnt even bother asking him how it looks and if it is "grainy". I might be a little bit paranoic, but is there anything known about this batch? is it the grainy one? thanks a lot....besides that Im psyched to get my hands on the XPS in two weeks!!!(thats when hes flying home...) :)

I also got my XPS M1530 yesterday.Folks who got the AU screen, has anyone noticed any bleeding on the AU screen (part # XX726)? And what is the overall consensus on this particular part #? Thanks any help would be appreciated. I called this into Dell Support and they are sending me what I think is an LG screen that everyone is raving about (part # XP059). Should I stick with the AU screen or have the tech replace with XP059? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Rhodan for the quick response. I just checked my status on the service call and it does indeed say that they are overnighting the XP059 to the field tech.

XP059 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, LGP 1

TY011 ASSEMBLY..., COVER..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., BLACK..., MAGNESIUM-ALLOY..., M1530 1

^^^^ thats is what the status says on the service call I am wondering if the LG requires a whole different assembly part. By the way they did intially send me a C930C (Samsung) and I cancelled the supprt call and open up a new one and insisted that they send the XP059. I hope it turns out to be what people say it is.

Just hope the depot does not change your order to something else overnight... When the Tech calls you tomorrow to book an appointment get him/her to confirm the part number.

Yes I am keeping my fingers crossed....It does say parts shipped w/ a tracking number. Would happen to know which carrier they use to ship parts. They have a Airway Bill number listed on the website. So I am hoping to get the call today or tomorrow. Also I think I ahve half of Dell Support monitoring the status on this call so they will hear from me if the part does "happen to get changed". Thanx again.

Well after reading so many complaints about this dreaded samsung display (1680x1050), I have decided to do a proactive thing and called in and demanded that they put a note on my order (soon to arrive 4/30) specifically requested a LG Display or otherwise I'll return it when I receive. Cross my fingers and hope it will go through.

The helpdesk person (Zeeshan, 1-800-695-8133 x5771122) who handled my call, did say they have this problem rectified. He even said, "100% guaranteed that I'll get a good screen." I know he's probably keeping me amused. Anyway, I'll post my result when I received it.

BTW, would some of the recent M1530 owners post what they have received? Even when they are satisfy, not just problems. I want to see if Dell has fixed the problem for a benefit of a doubt.

Model and Display ID if possible.

    Thanks.

p.s. He upgraded my shipping to Overnight next business day for free of charge.

Sorry to rain on your parade...

Regardless of what 'Zeeshan' told you the manufacturing plant worker will pick whatever is on the shelf when your system gets kitted. You've just entered the LG lottery.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response, phew! ....sign of relieve! Just saw it was shipped and checked on my service tag, the result is...

DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2

I'm assuming it is a LG. I guess I might be the lucky one or my request was actually gone through.

If your service tag part matches what's in your system then you're the lucky owner of a M1530 with a LG LCD. :)

On occasion Dell has shipped M1530 with the LCD not matching the Part in the service tag. Mine is like that, service tag shows RW985 which is Samsung but it came with the WD306.

    Enjoy!

I am after second screen replacement on my xps m1530 and got another grainy samsung (1680 x 1050). Tech Support will send another replacement screen and I m sure for 99% it will be samy. Furthermore I have big hot problem - core temp is still 55 celsius degrees 10 min after turn on my lap and doing anything or using firefox. I wonder if there is any chance to return my xps to dell and get my money back - i'm using it for 3 months. They (tech supp) can't solve problem with my comp so in my oppinion they should give my money back.
    What do U think?
(I'm not native speaker so my english ins't very good)

Some people here say, that you can try to ask the tech support on the Dell chat. I have tried doing that and I was told that they enter the system aprx. 2-5days after it is being shipped from Nashville. In that time you already have the laptop at home anyway. In my point of view, if it is being shipped, just wait couple more days, turn the laptop on, go to the device manager and there youll see what screen is in your laptop. thats the best way....even the service tag can have misleading info in it.....

Depends on who your talk to, but I called in and asked for details of my build and he actually spoke to the build dept to get the service tag. However, my situation was when I called to inquire about type of LCD screen I'm receiving and when he couldn't provide me with the answer, then I asked for the service tag and he gave it to me. The rep also told me that you can't check on the detail until it is "shipped". That's how I got it.
