    hello guys!

    please don't mind me asking before searching but i'm leaving to London and i have to decide on a certain configuration for a XPS M1530;
i have read few posts about this grainy screen issue and i would like to know how should i proceed?
they are offering 2 types of lcd's now the WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™ and the 15.4" Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife™
    which one should i choose?

    thank you in advance!

alos, what do this options mean?

2.0 mega pixel Camera & Tuxedo Black for CCFL Display
2.0 mega pixel Camera & Midnight Blue for CCFL Display
Bubblegum Pink XPS M1530 & 2.0MP camera for CCFL Display
where do these colors apply? only on the exterior or also on the 2 lateral stripes of the monitor?

I have the WUXGA on my Precision it is nice as you can stuff lots of windows on the screen, but things are too small for my eyes, I would personally prefer the WXGA+

    Hello everyone.
I would just like to know, it's been a while, have Dell fixed this problem? Or are they still shipping them with the Samsung screen. Because my cousin is ordering one in a month or two, but he heard about this, so I'd just like to clear it.
    Thanks.

I have the 1680 version, and on top of the grainyness -- everything is hard on the eyes due to how small everything is. Unless you SPECIFICALLY NEED the higher res for one reason or another, go with the 1440x900. I wish I did.

So what's the way to check if your screen is 'grainy' or not?

I read in the topic that you'll notice it from the beginning, but now I'm reading that some will be slightly grainy.

My experience is a looong story. I'm on the 4th 1530. After the 4th I said forget it and just kept it. To be fair, I got a steal of a deal, otherwise I would have returned it. My screen is awful though.

Go to gmail.com. If you don't notice it there, then I don't know where you will. Heck, I see it right now while typing in this forum text box. White backgrounds are the worst. My start bar at the bottom of the vista screen is very sharp, colorful, and clear. Movies and games look great, too. But just trying to navigate around gmail's website is painful.

For a 15.4" you should get the 1440 x 900, that's what I'm using and I love it. Going up to a 1680 x 1050 or higher on 15.4 is deadly. Your eyes aren't built to handle that type of strain. You might not notice it now if you have good vision but if you plan on keeping that laptop for a few years yours won't be getting better by using that high of a resolution. Your eyes should always be comfortable when on the screen especially if you spend a lot of hours in front of it. Eye health is very important, stick to 1440 x 900 or 1280 x 800. If you are the type of person who needs more room, get an external display. A few years down the line, it isn't worth sacrificing your vision for a higher resolution panel.

Not everyone has the same eyesight. I'm extremely happy with my 1650x1050 15.4 screen and I wear reading glasses. Others prefer a different resolution so to each his own. If a resolution is hard on you eyes then it's possible you already have a problem... :)

Just checked and I have AUO2077 screen?

I thought it would be OK but it does look pixelated and grainy up close and I'm now thinking of calling XPS support to see what they can do? Is this going to be a right royal pain in the bum to get exchanged for an LG panel???

Would it be worth the hassle?

OK 45 minutes on to tech support, said he could swap the screen but couldn't tell me what make or part number he would be sending out as that tool on his system was down, I told him to wait for that tool to come back up and call me if and when he can see an LG screen as a replacement!

He was trying to help but it was also going to be a lottery as to what screen I got, when I said I may get the same panel if he had no idea what was coming out he stumbled over his words for a bit and then said he would keep an eye out once the tool was up and call me back?

We shall see I think :)

UPDATE: Had a call back tonight and the guy said I will get a Samsung panel but could not give me a part number?

Not sure whether to cancel the engineer visit and call again another time and see what they say? Kept telling me the LG panel isn't installed anymore? I'm in the UK can any one say anything different?

Is there a UK XPS support I can call?

Well I had another call tonight and the tech guy wanted to know what type screen I had? I said I only had the invoice and he said yes you need to tell me what it says on there, I told him nothing?

He wanted to know if it was WXGA+ or another type, I remember seeing when I purchased but couldn't answer there or then?

Anyway they canceled the engineer for tomorrow and then said he'd be out Wednesday and he didn't know what make/type/part number screen he was bringing out?

Surely that means they could bring another screen that is worse??

I'm going to speak to UK customer service tomorrow and see what the hell is going on?!?!?

I just got my 1530 with a Samsung 1920 X 1200 and sure enough it is grainy and I not satisfied. I paid an additiona $150 for it and I am not happy.

I am seeing on this thread that people are getting replacements for lower resolution Samsungs but does Dell even have another manufacturer option at the 1920 X1200 resolutions? Has anyone had experiene trying to get this replaced?

Anyone seeing issues with the 1920 vs. 1200?

I just received my 1900x1200 a couple of days ago and I am now starting to notice the grainyness.

At first I thought the screen didn't get very bright but didn't think much of, but after noticing the grainy oil looking effect on the screen and finding this thread I am fairly certain I have the problem also.

I am thinking I may just return it and get the 1440x900, but I wonder if they will keep my same price but just credit me back the difference and swap the screen? Anybody have any experience with this type of thing?

    Thanks

    Matt

OK, I've got one replacement already. Previously I had a Samsung screen which, fortunately, broke down (it had a line of dead pixels). However, they replaced it with an AUO which is as crappy as the previous one. I called Dell in Spain and in Poland saying that the new screen is of a bad quality and both support centers told me that I have to make some photos of it. The thing is I don't know if the grainyness is visible on them. Surely you can see that the backlight is terrible, but I'm not sure if that's enough... What do you think? Maybe I should find someone who has a laptop with a good screen and make a comparison shot?

Seems like this thread is heating up again....The screens are what ever Dell has at the time so you will be hard pressed to dictate what brand you want. I tried that long ago and they claimed I was getting the brand I wanted but no luck. I got lucky I guess in getting a 1650x1080 samsung that is problem free. You are better off either returning or going through the process of buying your own screen and installing it. Cheers and happy holidays to all!!!!

I have a Studio 15 with a beautiful WXGA+ LED screen. My 1530 has the crappy Samsung SEC 3157 WXGA+. Do any of you know if i can swap the screens and whether they would be compatible. I'm worried about the ribbon cables that go in the back of the LCD not being compatible and me finding out after i open both of the laptops which i'm a little bit hesitant doing anyway. Also the studio 15 has 15 or 16 brightness levels compared to the 1530's 7 brightness levels. Would appreciate any input.

Is there a way to tell which screen you got from the dell outlet order info? Mine is listed as 15.4 inch WXGA+ LED Laptop Screen TR426. Is that good/bad? Thx
