    Here ya go...
I did my best it's hard to take a picture of a monitor...
If you look closely at the up close pictures you can actually see the individual pixels with NO blur or Graininess.

From the top pic, it looks like it's got a uniform picture from left to right and top to bottom. Individual letters look nicely detailed. Huzzah on the sweet screen!!

I hope my CPT is somewhere close. :D

OK, I'm getting frustrated, I have tried to get Dell to replace my Samsung screen twice now and both times it has resulted in them telling me that I can only exchange it for the same screen. Are they just referring to the type (wsxga+) or the actual manufacturer (Samsung vs. LG)? I posted in another thread (can't remember which one exactly) about being content with the Samsung, but the brightness and viewing angles are really getting to me, and I don't want to settle for second best.

    1. If customer service tells me they can only exchange it for the same hardware, does that mean I just have to give her the LG part numbers?

    2. What other suggestions do you have to try and get around these problems?

    Thanks in advance.

From what I can gather, you can try to pound it into their skull.. err.. ask nicely if they could kindly please hook you up with an LG. Even if they agree and confirm that they ordered that part, there are a couple different parts that are considered equivalent to each other, any of which they will use to fill your order if the exact part number you ordered isn't available at the time. (aka. the LG, Samsung, Chunghwa and AUO.. probabaly more..) Supposedly they will be phasing out the Samsungs.

Well if you have tried all the other things...

If the first person wont listen to you your puts you off ask to speak with a supervisor ( customer resolutions) because your not going to be satisfied till it gets resolved.

I would tell them you do graphic design or CAD tell them you paid the extra $$$ for the top of the line XPS system with the best monitor option available at an additional cost as well. Tell them the screen is very grainy and is has a very poor image quality on light colored screens white, light gray, light blue, etc... Tell them it is worse the a cheap HP at walmart. I told them that I had been researching the issue online because it was driving me nuts and found that the samsung screen has a very high customer unsatisfactory rating and and that the LG screen has a very high customer service rating.
I let them know that I hard found out that there were too manufactures of the 1680x1050 screens and that I wanted to get the LG as the replacement because it was a superior and that I paid for a top of the line laptop. I told them if they would like to suggests a better computer or LCD option that I was unaware of I would be happy to purchase it. I also told them I wasn't asking for a better option or an upgrade I was asking for a LCD that didn't have problems, graininess, etc...

BTW it took me 3 weeks 8 calls and three samsung monitors sent to me before they sent me the correct LG. I told them from the start if they sent a samsung I would send it back ASAP without having it installed because it would be a waist of my time as well as the techs to put it in. I told them it would just cost them more money to keep sending samsung so they might as well send the LG...

    I hope that helps...

So anyone who has experience with the two.. probably throwing a shot in the dark here, but.. 1280x800 WXGA CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes?) vs. LG (god)

Any comparison here? I suppose it is a matter of preference and each individual LCD, regardless of manufacturer, could be better/worse than others..

I did let them know that I use CAD, which is true, but they kept telling me that I couldn't exchange it for a different model, but I think they were confused by my explanation. I think they thought I wanted a different type of screen (like a different resolution), so I'm going to try and figure it out tomorrow. I already have a return number for the computer just in case, so either they fix it or it's goin back.

I don't understand why they make such a fuss over a resolution change? I have the WXGA+, if I was tempted by a WXSGA+ and I'm still under my 30 days of full satisfaction, why would they not let you change? I could get frustrated and return the whole laptop, and on top of that they would make an extra 50 bucks with my upgrade.

Hey all, I just received my 1530 with the dreaded Samsung 1680x1050 screen. Rather than calling, I used the XPS Chat Tech Support and got the support guy to agree to send out an LG screen in 5 minutes max. The guy immediately knew the problem, knew it was all over forums, and himself admitted that the LG screen looked far better. Now we'll see if the actual tech guy comes with the LG screen and not another Samsung.

But for anyone that's having problems with XPS Phone Support, try the Chat service. Maybe it'll work better.

When I sent my 1st XPS M1530 back I tried to get a screen upgrade "for my trouble" but was advised that "technical replacements" have to be the same config. I managed to get some minor extra freebies thrown in but that was it.

I was assured the replacement would have the same parts but, as you may have gathered from reading my posts, they sent a different make and model of WXGA panel. The definition of "the same part" means the same type and size of part, not the exact same Dell part no. It's OK now that I had the creen replaced with the LG but I went through Tech Support this time rather than take a chance on returning laptop no 2 and getting a dud screen again.

I have noticed the new screen seems to have a ripple in the coating as well but you have to be looking at it from a pretty weird angle to see it. Has anyone else noticed that?

I know they do this, I just don't get their logic behind it, it's like they refuse to make more money. I know I know, they will have to sell your original screen as refurbished etc, but refusing an upgrade seems completely retarded to me.

edit: I'm pretty scared too, I need to send back this incredible 1440x900 screen because I do have around 10 dead pixels (really dead, massaging/flashing bright colors at it won't do anything). Those dead pixels are right into the upper left part of the screen, where internet tabs are so you just can't miss them... and I paid 1.8k for this, so I don't want dead pixels. But this overall stressful situation about having a good or bad screen is beyond comprehension for a company that builds its model on reputation and customization. It should not be a stressful situation for your customer. I understand there are things you can't do for your customers but refusing a simple thing as *replacing* a screen with the SAME model and quality seems to me like the complete minimum to satisfy your customer that already has to go trough the process of returning a laptop because it had a problem. Upgrading (not for free, with the customer agreeing to pay more) should be even easier... I hate to do that because I work in customer service too, but if my screen is not an lg, like I specified during my call, I'll ask to speak to a supervisor and get what I want to be satisfied as a customer that had a problem with my laptop... if not, it's full refund period... Can't believe they would prefer that over giving me an LG screen like I originally had.

Anybody knows th details on this Y274C Part number. This is regarding the LG VS samsung screen replacement. I've been reading this post and this seems to be a problem. After three tries on both chat and direct call. The chat rep assured me an xk309 but when I checked it he gave me a Y274C, lier. I called them and it did show up in their system and opt for replacement unit. I said no cause there are licensed software here installed already. I just need the LG screen. He called the manager and said blah! blah!and cant replace it. I'm pissed off at this. Any results on the Y274c instead?

I'm a graphic designer and this is just not working out well, I also have a dead pixel and a ball point white-dot-like stain(could be dead pixels [4 pixelsclustered] as well but both are still acceptable as long as you don't look from the side. The grainy screen is my problem.

That sucks man we should have this as a candidate for voluntary recall/replacement. I tried moving some high resolution pictures on the screen and If I wast just any regular guy I would not notice that the grain was not the picture but the screen itself

Thought I'd post this on this thread too...

Well, my M1530 arrived today, with Samsung screen...although I was unsure at first (screen was not the terrible gray, dim, grainy thing I was expecting), I still called and I got a good support rep on the line and although at first he was hesitant, I challenged him to get me a specific part and after telling him I wanted the XK309 he pulled it right up and confirmed it. He even detailed the record with notes to not replace it with another part # and that I would only accept the XK309. I just confirmed the overnight shipment of the LG...it did not get changed to another Samsung and it will be replaced tomorrow.

Now, the bizarre part of all this is now that I've had time to use and compare it, this Samsung screen is not bad at all! It's brighter than my new HP business notebook which really has a nice, bright 1440x900 screen. At my office the M1530 was brighter than my desktop LCD and blew away my D820 which also has a Samsung WSXGA+. I also put it next to a Sony Vaio SZ and the M1530 is far brighter, and has better whites than the Sony. Viewing angles are not as good as the Sony but looking at it straight on, the M1530 wins. I know it's always better to see so here are some photos... the 'm1530Sony.jpg' has the Vaio on the right. The 'M1530HP.jpg' shows the HP nc6400 on the right. Sorry, I don't have another M1530 with the LG. I am as picky as anyone and cannot believe that this particular Samsung screen is like the ones many are complaining about or shown in other posted photos. I guess there really are some decent Samsung LCD's out there. Guess I'll have to look at the LG carefully tomorrow before they take this one away!

SEC3350. I actually had to turn down the brightness a little. This thing is even brighter than my XPS M1710. Bizarre. Viewing angles however are not very good.

I've been saying it from the beginning (well, since I received mine on 12/31) that my Samsung-SEC3350 is a beautiful screen. The minute I fired it up I thought "I must have got a LG"! I was shocked when I checked the next day and it was the infamous SEC3350. I'll try to take a pic of it tomorrow next to my Sony LCD. What's the best way to get a good pic of a screen? Any special settings to use on my camera?

Just turn off the flash. Keep the room dark. The camera should auto focus easily on the bright screens. Don't take the photo too close either.

(this got moved from the sticky on the Dell Grainy Screen Info and Guide)

Maybe I'm lucky as I ordered a 1440x900 screen and my Dell rep ask for a LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: XP059

    LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: XP059 Size: 15.4" 1440x900

    XP059 is the right p/n isn't it?

I just waited on hold to try to get my screen replaced for 1/2 hour. When I finally got a technician, he stated he could not order the specific screen. When I told him that other users were getting Dell technicians to do it he said that anything in this forum was not valid. He also refused to send me a screen replacement directly and said he wasn't allowed to. Again I asked him why I was getting different treatment, and he said "I am going to end this call" and then immediately hung up on me. I don't know where you guys are getting decent support technicians but I am having bad luck. I have purchased around 10 Dell notebooks over the years, and even if this was my first and only one I do not think I deserve treatment like that.

Well, I have good news. I used thetimidmango's method of Dell Chat service in an attempt to get an LG screen after at least 4 attempts calling them up and talking to several different departments with no success. I was in the "chat room" for maybe 30 minutes, gave the lady my story, linked her to this thread, and politely asked her if she could check on part #xk309. She did, and let me know that she put in the change order for the LG screen! She was honest though, and told me she was skeptical on whether I would actually get that screen, but I was called today and the technician should be here this afternoon with my new LG screen!

I'm one of the few that had a decent Samsung screen, but was thrown off by how bad the viewing angles are, I'm going to see how good the LG is and see if it is truly better. I will try and take some "apples to apples" type pictures using the same settings on my camera to try and help with the decision process for others in my boat. Wish me luck!

We need to start posting this stuff in the Dell forums as well. The tech I talked to last night said he would only give credit to information posted there. There is very little posted there with regard to this specifically for the M1530. Specifically, we need to engage the Dell moderators/contributors and try to get some validation on their part to use in our discussions with the tech support, and we also need records of people successfully getting LG screens and being happy with them.

I'm actually very glad I came across this discussion. I ordered a new M1530 and wound up with the infamous Samsung screen. I immediately noticed that the screen was not nearly as nice as I expected. The best way I can describe it, is it's almost like looking through (if it existed) a very fine grit, clear sandpaper. In all honesty, my 4 year old, bottom-line Toshiba notebook has a nicer screen than my XPS.

I bought the computer because of the heavy discount offered in January, as well as the 0% financing special. Yes, I am very disappointed in the screen, but I just don't feel like going through the hassle of getting the screen replaced. I just don't feel comfortable letting a repair-guy take a brand new computer apart, let alone begging a tech support rep for an LG screen, only to have them mail out another Samsung.

Other than the screen, it's a great system. I just wont be buying another Dell because of it.

I agree Sonic I'm going to use this thread as proof as well. I believe you've had a hard time getting the screen. I'm getting one installed tomorrow for a part number Y274c. I'm at it right now to ask the dell tech what kind of part or screen this is. If ever I get a good screen installed other than LG as long as it's not grainy, bad angles or dead pixels I'll post it back here to acomodate everyone else for a successful install part(Y274c). I've been researching on the part but no luck. We'll see tomorrow.

Y274C is a generic part # for Dell. it just means that the warehouse can send any screen that fits the specifications of that part. I know this because that is what was explained to me and what came and they brought Samsung. If they tell you they are bringing Y274C then you could end up with LG or Samsung. You need to specifically request the LG part #.

I have started a thread in the Dell forum about this and summarizing my experience. It would be good if others could participate in this thread or create other threads there to get attention. One thing that could quickly happen, is that the techs could be memoed proper instructions for getting us LG screens. I'm sure this is preferable to what many of us are doing which is returning our notebooks and becoming less likely to purchase from Dell again.

I can't believe the difference, this and the Samsung are worlds apart, and I didn't even have that bad of a Samsung to begin with! The final process was super easy: Dell Chat Sunday at 10 p.m., screen installed Tuesday at 2 p.m.

I couldn't get the apples to apples pictures that I would have liked, but asides from that here are the things that I have noticed about both of my screens:

Brightness - Actually about the same, BUT the LG is FAR greater in a bright room, where the Samsung just plain sucked.

Viewing Angles - The main reason I started this process, and I must say this is probably the biggest improvement going to the LG. On the Samsung, if I moved my head an inch, the entire screen drastically changed, forcing my eyes to be exactly parallel with the screen at all times. The LG is so good that I have to get up to really see a big difference. This will save my neck and eyes a lot of strain in the next few years, as I am looking at this screen many hours a day.

Sharpness (grainyness) - In other threads I mentioned that the "grainyness" on my screen wasn't all that bad. Wrong. The second I turned my computer on with the LG I was blown away with how sharp this screen is. Everything is so crisp, and colors look flat and pure and not "3D." Sharpness is really a big deal with such a high resolution screen due to smaller words and images, so this definitely a huge improvement and again helps with the strain on my eyes.

To sum this quick review up I will say that if you are wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to the LG, let me tell you as a person who could have "lived with" his Samsung that I am stunned at the difference between these screens. Period. I only thought to do this based on the helpful people on this forum, and really that was a blessing. The process took a long time, many calls, and probably some luck for me to finally get the LG, so I may be the exception and not the rule.

If you blatantly notice the quality issues of your Samsung screen, get it replaced.

If you think you notice the issues, and are not happy, get it replaced.

If you are like me and are/were a little peeved about not getting the best product for the money you spent, get it replaced.

If you don't notice anything, and don't want to go through the trouble, then don't get it replaced.

Otherwise I can confirm that the LG is a stunning LCD, and is well worth the effort that I went through to get on my laptop. I hope this will be of some help to people, good luck and be persistent!

Thats right~ I am one who posted over there on Dell's forum. At the time there were only one other posts on the screens and the dell reps who scan those said that was the first they heard of the problem... the liar's! :(
My post is rapidly getting responses whereas others only gettng a couple.
Anyway here is the link to my post and the other one:

I've been posting with Jack53 and Sonic on Dell forums. Dell people we've encountered so far are saying the same thing on calls, chat and on the threads. Check Jacks53 and Sonic links.

My tech just arrived to replace my screen... WITH ANOTHER BLOODY SAMSUNG. Despite my attempts to deal with Dell in a professional manner and despite their ABSOLUTE assurance that they were sending me the XK309 part, yes they sent me the same thing and it was just as awful as the first one. Seriously, this is getting pretty old. I love this system and I really don't want to return it for something they could quite easily rectify, but this is turning into a serious pain in the posterior.

Well, I'll see what I can do. Congrats to the latest group of people who got what we all deserve.

In M1530, only 1280x800 screens are great. There is nothing you can do for the rest.

What did your support request show under the Parts section? You should still be able to pull up the ticket and it will show an exact part #. I'm getting mine replaced tomorrow and the part that was sent was the XK309, which is the LG.

Wrong! Not many 1440x900 screens are having problems. Back up what you claim with links or proof. ;)

Not to fret, you'll probably get what it says. Despite my efforts, the last service call was billed with the generic part number. And despite my ignored e-mails and my phone calls to confused people who claimed "oh yes, they definitely sent XK309 - we can see it in our database!", another SEC screen arrived with the tech today.

At any rate, here comes round two. Wish me luck. At least this time my service call says the correct part number.
