My Play/Pause, Stop and Forward/Back keys stopped working in Windows media player. Anyone have the same problem? Any idea how to re-enable them?

Hey guys..im in a bit of hurry.

Is there any way to download ISO file of drivers CD for dell XPS 1645 from net.

I lost my CD and system has gone really mad due to over heating.

CC did their best and last resort is to format and see if anything is possible.

So any link to ISO file will be really helpful..

    thanks.

Wow, this is an excellent list. I wish someone would maintain a similarly updated list for the XPS 15 L1502X.

    Hey folks,

I had been looking for a way to enable two-finger right-click on my sXPS 1645 touchpad, and I found the following article about a program that's compatible with synaptics touchpads that enables it.

    Bringing Apple’s two-finger right-click to Windows | TechBlog | a Chron.com blog

You can also use its version of two-finger scrolling which is way better than the synaptics version. Read the article for more details.

Let me know if you try it!

    Can't say that I have...

Are specific keys not working? In which games does this happen? Do they work initially... but then stop working? Are you sure they're bound/configured correctly?

So far this only happens in older games but yeah everything is configured correctly. As for what keys? the ~ and + keys 99% of the time. They work outside of the game but not in it.

Why would you use windows 8 on a non-touch device anyway?
There's no benefit from using it over 7, even the fast boot times are useless since sleep>shutdown

Well since I removed the dustfilters I have to do it about 3-4 a year or I'll have a nice pair of socks in my laptop.
But it kinda depends on what you do with it. Often I use it in bed and it'll suck up quite a bit of dust. Oh well

    Hi Guys,

I think from now on there will be no more drivers available for us.

ATI is backing out of supporting the HD4000 series graphics cards and honestly the latest windows 7 drivers kinda work ok but lately having a lot of issues with it.

    Any idea about this???

I would look into a SSD. (I don't have one currently... but that'll be my next upgrade.) They're certainly expensive, but it would make your laptop seem a lot faster with the significantly faster read and write times.

Check out this article (from May 23, 2012):
What’s the Best SSD? 5 Drives Tested

Speaking of which, has anybody upgraded to SSD? How is it treating you?

If you dont use your dvd drive anymore get yourself a caddy for inside the laptop or if you dont want that i can recommend a corsair force 2 works nicely or a seagate hybrid drive

Just out of curiosity what is everyone's cpu idle and load temps for 1645?

I just got a new HD (cause the last one failed on me and now I'm concerned about the temps they seem higher than norm)

Umm that release does not work for my 4670... release notes state for Radeon Mobility 5100 series and up.

Yeah, AMD dropped support for a lot of older (3+ years old) GPUs on this release.

My idle temps are usually in the mid-40s to low-50s after a repaste and removing the dust filters. Load temps are in the high 70s with Prime95, though in can get to the low 80s depending on ambient temps and whether I'm stressing the GPU as well. I don't see how a new HDD would significantly alter your CPU temps though.

    Yeah I can tell.

Hmm see that's the thing... just before the new HDD my temps were quite close to that... now its hovering around mid 50s to low 60s at idle and high 70/80 at load. (I had cleaned out all the dust as well) Do you think a re-paste is needed for my 1645 on both my CPU and GPU (both are showing sim temps)

My boss at work says it might have something to do with the Toshiba HDD firmware talking to the CPU much more than the older Seagate HDD.

Also I'm having issues with audio when I play games (under high cpu) it will cut out or corrupt and the game will hang for a sec. I'm thinking something went wrong with a Creative SB MB update... I've noticed lots of people having similar issues. Has anyone got a solution for this? (another funny thing is this is most noticeable during the tut vids in "Deus Ex: Human Revolution")

(I'm laughing cause this all started happening within a week of the original warranty expiring.)

When gaming you should use a cooler. This usually isn't a problem as normally you are stationary and plugged in at the time.

For CPU temp's I idle, light activity like surfing the net, at 35-40 C; when gaming it is around 55 C. I usually use a cooler when gaming and I undervolted my T9550.

Anyone running Diablo III on the 4670?, how does it run?

It couldn't hurt, and might drop your temps by as much as 5C, depending on how bad a job Dell did in pasting (they usually use WAY too much).

Possible, but it wouldn't be enough to change your temps by more than a degree or two. Most of the time I've heard of this raising CPU temps is when you switch to an SSD, as the SSD can get data to the CPU much quicker, increasing CPU load (though speeding things up significantly).

I'd suggest just uninstalling all that Creative crap. The hardware for laptops that came/didn't come with the SB stuff is identical. It is purely non-necessary software, and buggy software at that. The only practical use for it is to enable optional EAX in older (pre-Win Vista) games through emulation. If uninstalling it fixes your problem, just leave it at that. I can't believe Dell actually charges for that crap.

That's the way it usually works... I have about a month left on my (2yr) warranty, and am just waiting for this thing to start breaking. Oh well, the new XPS 15 doesn't look too bad (much better than the last generation at least, first XPS since the SXPS 16 with a GPU worth using).

I don't think there will be Dell drivers made for the SXPS16.

Even if there were I don't plan on getting Windows 8 (as an upgrade), there's no feature in it that I would need/want.

I think it highly unlikely that Dell will release new drivers for a laptop that is past support End of Life. Though I would think that for most things the vista/win 7 drivers should work for win8 as well. And for GPU you just use the AMD drivers.

Though I agree with gpig, I see very little reason to upgrade to Win8 on a non-tablet.
