I have searched incessantly for firmware for the drive, but have not been able to find anything.
I really doubt this has anything to do with the burn quality; I have had this problem with every X64 version so far.

I have had great success with win7 x64 build 7100 with exception to the fact that I cannot get bluetooth to work on my M1530. I have the DELL 355. Has anyone gotten the bluetooth to work?
Thanks -

Hi,
I Installed windows 7 rc last night. Everything seems to be going well. I got a 5.9 on HDD score without any tweaking, I have a seagate.
I installed the bios update from dell (A12). Video drivers from nvidia (185.85 i think) Chipset software from intel, i installed the intel matrix manager after install not during. All other drivers i got from the dell website for vista 64. the only problems i have run into is that the window 7 preview version of the fingerprint software wont recognise the scanner, even though thedrivers are showing up as installed in device manager. Also my video card is getting a lower score (5.0 instead of 5.9 in vista) anyone have any ideas?
Anyways try the latest bios update, it may help. Also i think you can turn on virtualisation for the xp mode in the bios.
thanks -
I got it working on my M1530 this way. -

Does anyone have audio drivers that work well? I'm using the version dell provides for Vista, and I can only use the internal microphone. The external one is always labeled as "currently unavailable" in my recording devices list.
-
Installed today, wifi doesn't work at all, computer running very slow, over 10 minutes to shut down system. Bluetooth also isn't working.
t8100, windows 7 64 bit, dell wireless n 4 gigs ram. -
Did u install the drivers properly?? If nothing else works try a reinstall of the OS. Might be a faulty installation. -
It works a lot better if you completely reinstall Win7 over an upgrade, the first time I didn't wipe the HDD and it left a lot of junk behind, had to reformat the drive and do a fresh install.
So far, working flawlessly. Just needs the bluetooth patch (mentioned a few posts above) to get the bluetooth drivers to work, but that's an issue for all OSes, not just Win7.
For drivers, just enter your service tag, that's the quickest way to do it. Then go to nvidia for your video drivers (or laptopvideo2go).
*feels* faster, but that's just because there's less junk. -
I installed everything without a hitch (matrix storage manager, etc), but when I tried installing the latest chipset drivers from Intel I got an error message from Windows saying it might not have installed properly. I tried both the executable and ZIP version...but when I check the device manager it looks like it was a no-go.
Has anyone tried to install the Intel 965 chipsset drivers manually? How does one do this? What device do you select in the device manager to update the driver manually?
Otherwise, every driver installed perfectly : ) -
Also on an XPS M1530 with that same TEAC drive.
I finally found out that the iso that I downloaded wasn't complete.
Checking its checksum with HashTab showed that I had to download the iso from Microsoft again.
After this I could easily install Windows 7 x64 RC1 from USB harddisk.

hey has anyone experienced random freeze ups, like it takes a long time to open a file, been using 7100 for 3 weeks then it began doing this, if I play a video, it plays fine then suddenly freezes for like a minute then normal again.

Can someone make Windows 7 x84 / 32-bit Installation Guide for M1530 ? It would be very helpfull. My main question is focused on drivers. I hate drivers Why cannot operating system creators add support so everything will work naturaly by co-operating with companies that make hardware. I want automatic and best updates which install and download for free + automaticaly.
-
The problem is that (a) drivers are constantly updated but an OS installation DVD is static. It'll never have the latest and greatest drivers, and (b) the OS will obviously not know about hardware released after the OS. That's why Vista and/or Windows 7 might install drivers for your sound card (or whatever) where Windows XP won't.
But the bottom line is that Mcrosoft and the hardware vendors DO work in tandem to make sure that the OS (at release) contains drivers for as many devices as possible. But it's a snapshot in time. -
anyone know if dell will have official support for windows 7 on 1530?
-
-
I can only assume that the final release will be just as complete. -
Thanks man, I'm sick of Vista
-
Is it just me or dell's drivers all lead you to download this driver download application that doesn't work?
-
Can someone recommend a Bluetooth driver for Win7 x64 (XPS 1530 obviously)?
-
Can I ask without reviewing the whole thread...
Has anyone experienced troubles, in that, the webcam software will install but the webcam will not be recognized?
If so...how did you fix it???
I have a 1340 but the answer will prob be the same... -

I have a 1530 and just installed Win 7x64 on it. Everything has gone great apart from my Video driver. It would only display up to 800 x 600 so I went to the Dell site and input my service tag number.
I downloaded a Vista 64 driver and installed that but it still only displays 1680 x 1050. My display is a 1980 x1200.
If I go to the Nvidia control panel, 1680 x1050 is the max it will allow me to go to.
Any ideas on how to get this to display the native resolution.
Device Manager shows my monitor as a generic PNP display.
My Video Card is a 8600M GT and this is shown correctly in Device Manager -

Hi, need some help.
I'm running windows 7 RTM (x64) on my xps m1530.
Seemed to be working fine till this morning,
but for some reason all my 32 bit applications have stopped working.
Now all I get is:
"C:\Program Files(x86)\abc...exe
The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present"
Then it just exits.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks. -
Is it possible to install Windows 7 x64 on my XPS M1530 that has Vista Home Premium x86? I know it'll probably require a wipe if its possible, I just want to be sure I can do it before getting Windows 7 from MSDN.
-
If you're going to wipe the old OS (whic is a must IMO), then it doesn't matter what was on there. I had the same OS on my m1530 before I installed 7 last month. Sahaskatta's post above points out the devices that didn't install automagically for me.

Hello everyone,
Everything seems to be working well pretty far after installing the RTM, but I am having issues with audio. There is a "crackling" noise every once and while when audio plays back in everything. I have installed the Vista 64 Sigmatel sound drivers already. Not sure what the issue is.
This is very frustrating as the machine works very well otherwise. I have installed the newest Intel Matrix Manager from Intel's site and the chipset drivers from Dell. Don't know why this is happening. I listen to a lot of music, so this is going to get very annoying.
Edit - By the way, I have the Intel Wireless N wireless card and not the Dell one. I have seen others have issues with the Dell one. -
After installing QuickSet, TouchPad drivers and installing the Windows 7 fingerprint suite, it seems that the crackling noise has gone away... or at least been reduced a lot.
As I was typing this I THINK I heard it crackle again, hope not. I'm thinking maybe since there are some devices in the computer that didn't have proper drivers, they were messing up the audio playback? Who knows.
Edit - Yes I am still getting the audio crackles/skips, but it is a lot less than it was before. I guess I have to find the magic driver that hasn't been installed yet? I'm wondering if anyone else has been having this issue with their audio. If anyone has any insight that would be great, thanks!
I don't think I need to install any other drivers, as everything else seems to be working. I guess I have to wait for Dell to put out Win 7 Sigmatel drivers. -
Is no one else having this problem? My skipping/crackling audio is still a problem. I don't know what is causing it, other than maybe drivers.
2.4ghz T8300
4GB ram
Nvidia 8600M GT
Intel Wireless N (not the dell card that some people had issue with this in the past) -
I just installed windows 7 everything went great i think. I have my laptop hooked up my tv to watch videos everything worked fine on vista it also worked for a little on windows 7 until when trying to change my resolution the laptop crashed and i got a blue screen i think. once restarting my laptop wont detect my tv and it seems the Fn + CRT/LCD(F8) isnt working it doesnt do anything used to say no external display attached if there wasnt anything plugged in but now it doesnt do a thing. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?
Thanks
Edit: Seems i can get it display on the the stuff on my tv if i hit FN and F8 while its booting up but when i try to change resolution its all grayed out and stuck at 800x600. -

Unfortunately no difference, still getting the skips. I'm pretty much fed up with this. I don't know why it would automatically start happening in Win7 and not in Vista. I guess I just have to wait for Dell to put out Win7 drivers for this machine (if they ever do).
Edit - I'm thinking that my install of Win 7 may be messed up, since it seems like a lot of people don't have the issue. -
Sorry for the triple post, but I think I narrowed down my problem to being the video card driver. I've tried a bunch of new drivers up to the most recent one, and I still haven't eliminated the skipping audio problem. It seems to have gotten a lot better, but I think this one is on NVidia.
Also... hope my card isn't dying. -
. However the popping mostly happens when using Firefox for some reason...and for streaming media. But I do get it in WMP playing local mp3's as well.
Is there a solution out there? -
I don't think there is yet... I have tried everything. I tried 7 32bit in hopes that drivers for this machine would work better under that, but still had the problem. I am back using Vista for now unfortunately and the problem of audio skipping/crackling is mostly gone (happens as much as it did in the past... only when the machine is really stressed).

Try video drivers from here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to advise..that I now have Win 7 Ultimate (64) on my Lappy..and so far things are working out just great!
I haven't had any problems..I had to install the Video driver separately..that's about it!
My only quirk is the *user* quirk in getting used to the normal changes from Vista to Win 7.
The other small complaint is I would love to *unpin* WLM from the taskbar so it can *freeflow* like it did before.
And, my WLM contact's don't feel *tethered* to it.
I really like way Win 7 is working on my 1530...has a better *flow*..can't really explain it...

Still don't get it ...Strange. Never had such a problem with Vista x64...
-
OK i think i found the Problem. The crackling only appears when i connect my external LCD by HDMI. Without the external Display, everything works fine. So maybe it's a video driver issue.
Can someone confirm that or maybe someone also have the M1530 with a Screen connected by HDMI without that Problem. If it is like that, i need the video driver version ...
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language ... :/ -
Ok, i think i fixed it. I had to Mute (not disable) the HDMI Sound Device. It looks like there are no more skipps... This is really strange. Maybe the Default HD Driver is not fully compatible with the NVIDIA Video driver....

Good thread!
I've been dual-booting Vista64/7 Ultimate64 for about a month or so on one of my desktops. Now I think I'm ready to put 7 as a full install on my lappy.
I've read every single post on all 15 pages which will help a lot. -
Yay! Got everything installed. Took two attempts @ installing W7 because there was a glitch with the Media Direct install the first time.
Then there was a mystery "Base System Device" driver warning in the Device Manager but I believe some Ricoh driver download via Dell's site fixed it.
Whatever I could not find as far as W7 drivers go I simply installed the official Dell Vista64 drivers and all seems well. Also installed the latest WHQL video driver from nVidia's site.
Overall it was painless procedure. -
You can let the contact fly seperately by choosing the old settings in the properties for the start menu. -
I really like it! 2 + weeks now..FTW so far!
