Since the Latitudes are announced I'm hoping the XPS's are coming soon. I am currently leaning Latitude though![]()

Me too! I was very happy with the expansion capabilities of the Inspiron 9400 that I still use, but now I see that if you want a laptop with expresscard and more expansion capabilities, you really have to go on the professionna line these days!
We'll see how it goes! -
which lattitudes?
-
This is the press release for the latitudes, see pictures in the gallery on the right: Dell Enables Businesses To Do More Than Ever Before With State-Of-The-Art Manageability and Data Security In Updated Computing Line | Dell
Let's try not to digress too much... but my decision will probably come down to XPS vs. Latitude E6530/E6430. -
Its on the home page of notebookreview. Or if you meant which ones am I considering, the e6430, 6330, or 6230 are the ones I'm thinking about. They haven't announced exact options yet, but here are the short highlights:
E-dock capable
2 USB 3.0
1 eSata+power port
express card
Smart Card
There was mention of 14 inch screens in 13 inch chassis etc, discrete graphics, and more. -
what im more interested is size and gfx
what gfx is supposed to go in these?

-
For me this means no successor for XPS17
-
Is there a link to this ? Or a press release ?

Come on I want to see the XPS 15 now!

Increase confidence that there will not be an heir to the XPS17.

The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
Why bother? Apple is rumored to be knocking off their 17" MBP when they unveil the new ones next week. Although a few on these boards would love one, 17"-ers make up a small fraction of the marketshare. Not worth it for Dell to have 2-3 versions of the same device. -
I never seen an Ispiron with same specs of an XPS, but never say never.
I think this is not sense for Dell to go out with a XPS17 with a GPU more powerful than GT650 GDDR5, if it was then GPU should uses MXM connection, so different motherboard and different chassis just like an Alienware M17X. -
W8 Release Preview is now online

Bill, have Dell done anything to combat the heat with this new generation? I am eager to get hold of one of these laptops. Also what about speakers, will it still keep a subwoofer and JBL?
-
he hinted no subwoofer on jbl, there shouldnt be any thermal issue aka throttling issues, and he said the speakers are good... for not having a subwoofer
-
The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
At under an inch in thickness, the L521x wouldn't have room for a subwoofer. And as nice as the current XPS 15 sounds, unless you had it propped up, the bass was just getting muffled by a desk, a lap, a bedspread, whatever. The speaker grills on the L521x look huge, perhaps a little too much wasted space? -
or bigger speakers

Hi, does anyone know how the LoJack service works on Dell laptops? I may buy it with the XPS just for be saffer, you'll never know when you may need it...
-
LoJack tracks the ip address if some one plugs in your computer after they steal it. Not really worth it let them use your laptop and use your insurance to buy a new one.
-
I am really sad that there won't be a subwoofer on the XPS models. I really liked that feature on the L702X models. I am curious if the speakers are still going to be JBL. I really don't like the fact that Dell is changing so much on the XPS casing. I think the L702X frame was just perfect for what I needed.
-
I believe eSATA is going the way of the dodo bird for the most part. USB 3.0 is close to the same speeds, and a much more commonly adopted standard.
I really shouldn't answer this, so I really won't. Here are the lines for you to read between:
With recent trends to bring your own device into the enterprise (aka, BYO, consumerization of IT), more and more companies are beginning to adopt the use of traditionally business class only components and features. Many IT pros in recent focus groups and surveys have named technologies like HDD encryption and fingerprint readers as desirable components for BYO systems.
Yeah. I was talking the non-z there. Thanks for looking it up. To answer that original question (remember I also said I was a former owner of a Solobaric L7 powered by a 3K Watt amp), just about any system that doesn't include a sub will not sound as good as one that does. However, we have nothing to be ashamed of with the speakers on any of the XPS line, shipping or supposedly soon to ship.
Not so much the monetary cost as the cost/benefit argument. In reality, not that many people have a need for eSATA out of the total pool of users of most system models. I guess a portable work station class system would have different numbers of eSATA users than a consumer class multimedia machine.
A pre-order page, eh? Hmmm. Let me kick that can down the road and see what happens. Yes, I know exactly how long we are going to torture you.
I hope you find it worth the wait and angst of longing.
Ha! And no! Definitely not using the 15z chassis on the new systems. Great evolutionary step the 15z and 14z were, but we're moving on. We are facing some stiff competition from other PC vendors, and as nice as the current z chassis is, it will not be competitive for long.
Did I say that? I don't recall, but sounds right, except on the clickpad- no comment.
Here is what I managed to find on our site. The content is dated, but the links to activate and get support from LoJack still work.

We have an alternative. Won't be an XPS. It will launch before the XPS does as well. My team mate is the messaging lead for the product, and she will have a blog post up about it on launch day. ETA is mid-ish June.
-
Bill, any info you can share about the multitouch option on the current xps 15 on the website? It seems pretty odd and the reps online didn't seem particularly helpful.
Also, if not any info about touch on the l521x, perhaps Dell's stance on future touch screen laptops? -
Now where's that preorder page...
-
Hi all! Is there a chance to know if the battery will be integrated (like in 15z) or extractable (like in the current xps 15)? PLEASE tell me it will be extractable
-
Bill - I can haz pre release model to beta test? Or cool job at Dell?
-
So I guess the releasedate will be no earlier than the beginning of july
Lets hope I'm wrong and the alternative launches on the 15th and xps on the 16th
-
Bill I have a problem, my current XPS warranty runs out 05/07/12. I don't know whether to renew or not. I really want to buy the new XPS, what would you advised to do as I will sell my current one after I purchase the new one.
-
soo no xps until late june at the earliest
----
jellozz beat me to it =\
guess like other companies might have an advantage in getting comps sooner -
ARGH!!!! I hate Intel and Nvidia for delaying the processor and graphics chips so late. It should have been released in Jan at CES and by now we would have seen the XPS refreshes already.
Im am so in need of a new laptop but I really want to see what Dell has in store for the Ivy Bridge and Kepler refresh. -
yeah same hopefully bill can get that preorder stuff in
-
Damn it, I really need a new laptop before early july... I'm leaning towards the new XPS 15 but if it's still that far I'll have to settle for an (overpriced) Samsung series 7
-
Can't talk screen specifics on the new XPS, but in general our stance on touch is we are aligning a lot of touch enabled devices with the Win8 launch for obvious reasons.
No, and depends on what you consider cool. I like my job, but I spent 4.5 very uncool years in consumer tech support saying, "No, ma'am. Right click, not left click. It's the button on your mouse pad to the right of the one you're clicking now. No, ma'am. I don't need you to read me every word on the screen. Just the part in the box that popped up in the middle will be fine."
I hate to advise on money matters in my role as a company representative. I can make a general statement that you might want to consider what impact on resale value a valid warranty has vs no warranty.

thats true but dont arrive so late that the party is over

We will dominate the after party? lol
-
ah i c haha. just make sure there is a good display, sound, ddr5 gfx and i think ull be good to go
-
@ Dell-Bill_B: Is there a chance to know if the battery will be integrated (like in 15z) or extractable (like in the current xps 15)? PLEASE tell me it will be extractable
-
Oh, I am just waiting for XPS 15 & I was thinking that it will be on or before 15th of June. XPS is the reason which is stopping me to buy Series 7 17" because I had L502x & I was very happy with that.
If it will not come by 15th, I will be forced to go with series 7 as my HP DV7 is making me angry
-
I can't make specific comment, but the trend in high end laptops seems to be enclosed batteries.
If the 15th is your drop dead date, you should get the Sammy. That's a short term fix, IMO. If you can stand to wait, at least you will have another system to compare, and you might even conclude you were glad you didn't jump on the Series 7. I will say their stuff looks impressive, though. I still like mine better. -
I really thought Dell was going to beat Apple to market with the consumer line with Ivy Bridge. It looks like the new MacBooks will be announced during WWDC June 11th.
-
Announced+shipping, or just announced? Apple likes to announce and wait most of the time, right? I only watch them from afar, so I'm clueless. We're launching and announcing on the same day.
