Bill, you are the reason I have held back. I just cleared the balance of the little plastic card in my back pocket to leave room for the next XPS.

    Sounds awesome :)

Quick question(your mention of "quitting time" reminded me): what are your working hours? I assume Monday to Friday... Maybe 8am-4pm?

Completely feel the same--except I'm not old enough for a credit card :-s (But don't let that fool you... I don't sponge off my parents :p)

Haha I will be using part of my college fund for this as well and should probably have it marked as XPS 15. :p

    @Bill,
    1- Dell IS losing sales!
2- If Dell is not losing sales, then you are the single reason.

My parents have a post-secondary education fund set up for me but I have my own money set aside in savings and willing to spend some of it because I'm going into computers... so I'll consider this a "business expense"!! :p

Back on topic... What do you think about the chance of having a carbon fiber bottom on it? Seeing as it was very well received in numerous online reviews for the XPS 13. ( Gizmodo, Verge, Engadget, etc...)

    That's what he said....

Dell Bill is actually doing a fantastic job. I would have definitely jumped on something like a Samsung Series 7 or Lenovo ideapad if I hadn't found this thread. And it took me 100 pages before I made an account, there could be plenty of other people following this that we don't know about, holding out because of the little tidbits that you've given. So kudos to you ^.^

I hope there is some info soon, sales are going quick now as everyone waited for IB. I have faith in you bill! Apple will be joining in the next few days as well. Why did dell have to wait? :(

The main thing for me is a reasonable price. I'm from the UK and am hoping for a £700 launch, please don't screw us up on the conversion like other companies do :) Any idea if the launch price will be good for us in the UK?

I am one of those people following the thread, but didn't make an account until now. I've been following intently for quite a while, holding out on the information provided by Dell Bill. Give this man a raise!

If it weren't for him, I would've gone with a Series 7 or Envy 15 already. Looking to drop at least $1,500 for a new college laptop, and Bill has practically given the sale to Dell.

    Now...maybe some more leaks? :)

(Please please please, all I want is a 1080P screen and a GT650m and you've got me sold)

If i go to the dell.co.uk site i can see the current XPS 15z at £729, and the Inspiron R at £449.
A price of over £1000 for new XPS id say is extreme. (base price i mean)

    Ok first of all Bill

    1/ you're awesome
    2/ I mean you're really awesome
3/ btw did I tell you you're... oh yea I did.

Second of all I'm definitely hooked, assuming there's a good possibility I can order one before early july I'll at least wait till these bad boys are fully disclosed to make a choice. The samsung NP007C can wait... or it might well become an XPS 15.

Keep up the good work !

Okay dude chill out, I was just posting what I hoped it would cost. I still have faith that dell will keep the price down below £1000 for the base model. I may even go for the xps 14 is it is £100 cheaper.

    Hi everybody,
I'm just another lurker who decided to go public after reading through 100 pages of xps rumors :)
I'm very interested in the new xps 15, as I was in the older 15z. My only concern atm is not for power or design but for price. I live in Italy, and altough the national dell doesn't screw customers like sony does, european prices are always affected by taxes and conversion rounding.
the new inspiron 15 is selling (in the top configuration) at 850 €, wich is a fair price for the hardware, and I'm prepared to shell 250€ more for the premium quality of the xps line and a 1080p display... I'm even prepared to settle for less power to contain the price.

I wanted to have your opinion on a simple matter: i don't play with my laptop (I have my desktop for that) and I was wondering if the integrated HD4000 was enough for everyday use and 1080 film playback (I'm almost sure it is)
Everything I do with the computer in terms of productivity is influenced much more by cpu processing power than anything else (ssd excluded).
Do you think Dell will offer the possibility to drop the discrete graphic card? for my needs I'll gladly accept the tradoff in power for greater battery life and temperature

Thank you for your help, and of course:
    Thank you, Bill :)

Also registered just for the new XPS15 :)

I've started my own company (freelancing) sinds the first of april and I'm looking for a quality durable notebook for developing (vmware/.net) and also maybe a game or two. (SC2/Diablo3/War3)

I'm not a fan of apple products, I'm looking for a fullhd screen with a reasonable gpu, nice cpu and loads of ram (preferrable 8+ upgradable to 16).

    Looking forward to the release

If the screen is good on the 15 i will definitely get one

Huge post! The product of being so busy with all these upcoming product launches. Sorry for the length, my mod friends.

If the plan doesn't change, if one existed- and I'm working on that- as of now, launch and announce will be the same day for the product that may or may not exist, and that I can neither officially confirm nor deny. ;)

It will launch in all regions a few days ahead of the product we are not specifically talking about on this thread because it does not exist at this point in time. EMEA, APJ and China already have R/SE. It's good to see a couple have decided to go with the R/SE instead of waiting for the XPS. XPS is not for everyone, and going with R/SE is a very astute choice for some, depending on individual situations.

Port flaps have been an Inspiron-only thing in the past. Watch patterns and make another guess. :)

That is one butt ugly implementation of a flap on Ethernet. Don't rush to judge until you see how it may or may not look coming from a different manufacturer not necessarily named Dell.

Man, that's truly hilarious. Had your heart been in the right place or had you added some emoticons, it would have been insta-rep from me. But I think you are being a bit surly, no? :)

Your deal is alive and well, my friend.

+rep for excellent and timely use of "That's what she said," though TWSS would have sufficed. ;)

Beat me to it. I admire Apple hardware, but customer sentiment around skin temps on MBP is public record.

Very good question for launch day. Please re-post at that time. I will chase on this.
Prescience is definitely your strong suit. Pricing will be reasonable in relation to value on any unreleased or un-acknowledged product I'm not directly attributing this comment to directly. (redundancy was intentional in case my style is new to anyone.) ;)
I have the option to work from home anytime, but I'm terribly easy to distract when I'm at home alone with all my toys while my toddlers are at day care. So, I'm apt to be working just about anytime but family time (5:30 PM- 10 PM, CST). My wife works from home most days, so I am the minivan jockey that takes the kids to and from day care. I am usually at my desk M-F 9 AM- 5:30 PM CST, and I usually skip lunch.
Wait until you're old enough to have been old enough to have a CC, max it out and pay it off a few times, and finally learn that buying on credit is just counter productive to building a nest egg big enough to pay for kids' college and your own nursing home expenses when you're too old to know what reality is, as I'm fast approaching.

Noooooo! Control yourself! It's mega important. :)

Reasonable price for anything in the UK? Come on, man (mate). Not to go all political, but your corporate tax environment makes doing business at comparative costs impossible while turning a profit. This applies to just about any consumer good imported to the UK. Gas? like 4x what we pay in the US. Real estate? Similar. And the list goes on. I love the UK and its citizens especially. Been there twice. Will go back again, but the taxes are a killer.
If there is indeed this new XPS you speak of coming to APJ, it would launch on the same day in all regions.
Can't speak to the availability of iGPU-only configs just yet, but there are numbers around on the HD4000. In short, it does surprisingly well for an iGPU. Big improvement over HD3000.

Applicability to my current rep level aside, this is a topic of interest for me in my profession. My last manager at Dell forgot more about reputation management than any 10 "social media gurus" anyone could name. What makes it interesting, to me at least, is how the study of it touches on sociology and psychology.

So this new XPS 15 will get lighter and slimmer?

I really like lighter weight. But not at all the thinner.
For me weight is the only factor that keep me away from using larger laptop.
I think a little thicker body (just to have more air flow without packing any more stuff) doesn't add any significant weight ? Or maybe i'm wrong.
Does anyone else think the same?

By the way will the new XPS 15 compete directly to the VAIO S 15 ? (15", same lightness? )

I know it's too late to discuss about design for the upcoming XPS
    maybe for the next version?

I have absolutely no use of ODD drive and i don't want to have it anymore while many still feel happy to be able to use CD/DVD/blu-ray.

But instead of designing 2 difference body with and without ODD maybe you can just add an option in customize menu to take the ODD drive off and install some kind of plastic or whatever meterial to make that slot the additional air vent. Then this machine with additional air flow can accept a better graphic card or just run cooler and quieter?

    Just an idea.

I found another Ultrabook combining new Ivy U CPU and strong GPU (640m) apart from the Acer Timeline U M5, the Gigabyte U2442V.

Is there any hope that I we could see any similar machine from Dell?

well bill i applaud you, u have still got me following this thread even though I already ordered the envy 15, now just release it within the next 25 days and ill more than likely return it and get the xps, if it indeed has a good screen, thin, and powerful :D :D. (otherwise ill stick with the envy... only thing I dont like about it is its kind heavy and the color problems with the screen)

Same here, I already ordered an ENVY 15 but already know it's going back. I think I'll play around with it still, but that XPS looks mighty fine.
