See, this is the kind of crap I hate about Apple. Who are they speaking to? Where are these numbers coming from? It's generic propaganda that is borderline false-advertising.

No time to post just now, but I just read the Apple press release. We're not too worried. I'll have a couple of differences to address, but I feel like we will come out just fine. No comment beyond that at this time.
Teaser page update- maybe next week if at all. No details on content. -
Noticed how the progression is regular, almost linear, going from RIM to android, and suddenly a bump to iOS?
I mean, everyone know these are faked numbers, or at least, played around with to get this result, but they could at least make it look a little more random! -

Thanks for the update, Bill

Do you guys complain about other surveys too? Just because it's "Apple" you accuse them of false results? I don't see how it's any different with any other company with their surveys.
Come on people. Please grow up. I am going to love the new Dell XPS but everyone else can enjoy their cake too... -

Makes me thing back about an add I've seen on TV yesterday, where 98% of the women liked the product... but an asterix at the bottom of the screen, written in really small characters, said that the survey was made with women who had seen benefits of using their product! Of course they liked it if they've seen benefits
I only wanted to point out that they didn't even take the time to "randomnize" a little these numbers! Not that it would have change anything, but it's almost admitting to faking them!
Edit: That, plus the fact they probably did not even say where these numbers came from! At least, they didn't put a reference on the graph -
Not quite sure with what more the teaser page can tell us, we have several pictures and a general knowledge of the components that will be in it. When's the release!!

That's like auto insurance with every company claiming the best service based on surveys. You save so much compared to X and X. Jeez... -

I don't know, first few results. Not sure where Apple data came from, no source or anything, but those fanboys eat that up and the use that as an argument for Apple. -
Thank you. It's just fanboys being fanboys with their tunnel vision.

No comment on the last 20 pages?

Where do you see me defending Apple? I just simply asked you a question about company surveys.
You're stupid. Grow up. Mature a bit. Jeez. -
Lets face it, there is almost nothing wrong with the new MBP except price. -
-
Why is 16:10 better all of a sudden? Since Apple does it? That's freaky, nonstandard and I'd never get that period. You know if Dell did that people would never buy it either.

We all know Dell's CURRENT and history of overheating and throttling...
Especially throttling... -
If you say so. I'm still much more willing to go 1080p std res on a nice, widely shaped laptop.

I wouldn't need a ridiculously high resolution on the new XPS that ramps up the price, but if they used an IPS screen or at least had that as an option, I'd be sold..
-
-
Honestly, I think the new xps is on par in design with the mbp. I wouldn't get caught dead with the old model, but this one is something I wouldn't be afraid to put up against one of those things. You can't say that for a whole lot of laptops though.
If the specs are about the same then the retina is just gimmicky, the ppi in a 15" 1080p screen is the very last of the concerns with screen quality. And I'm not about to cut out performance so I can smash my face on the screen and not see the pixels... Maybe on a phone that's useful since you look at it closely, but on a computer, I sit at the very least a foot away. No big deal. -
-
Sounds like they just increased the speed and took out the noise. The same concept of desktop fans such as Noctua's. Sounds like a win/win to me.
It's still too much though. $2200 could buy me a XPS and build a nice desktop. -
i would also like to see them side by side
i imagine the dell would be slightly bigger in every way, thickness, depth and width, but not that much. -
-
Really, it depends on how far away you see the screen, that's it. I'd say 2 feet is about standard when I'm looking at my laptop, maybe more, sometimes less.
By these calculations:
Resolution - Digicam - Andrew Gregory's Web Pages
3438 / 24" = 143ppi is about the limit for visual resolution, depending on eyesight
The ppi of a 15" monitor @ 1920x1080 is about 143. -
But the #1 plus for me, it's the fact that two 8.5X11 pages fit very well on a 16:10 screen side by side... If I'm working in MS Word for example, I can see two pages as a whole, with enough details (when if Full HD) while I'm typing.
I just wish they had not disappeared from mainstream models! -

The problem with the Retina Display is that all programs that want to take advantage of it have to be specifically written to do so. Apple reached out to Photoshop and AutoCad, which, admittedly are the top two programs that would ever need a higher resolution. But the rest? Mail, Calendar, etc. which Apple themselves stated had to be re-written... There's no advantage there, and 99% of anyone buying a new laptop, especially a MBP, would have no use for it. It's simply not worth the price.
I'm more interested in color gamut, nits, and outdoor visibility. Retina is an Apple buzzword for marketing purposes. It serves little purpose in everyday use. -
now this is going to be a problem for apple

China Syndrome anyone? -
considering that the alienware has a 150w adapter for the same specs, this is going to be fun

I am very interrested to see how the new MBP cooling system will work. Right now I am "just" a little bit stunned about the specs of this machine. Could be a hard battle for Dell but "luckily" the MBP is very expensive. Btw. there will also be a new MBP featuring a 1.440 × 900 display + i7 + 650m.
