Thank you both for the clear explanation, I really appreciated. I was exactly asking for some way to prevent unwanted charge to save some (they would be a lot for my use) charge-discharge cycles, and I understood we can trust on software. Can you suggest me some of these softwares if you can?

New IVY XPS 14 XPS 15 specs leaked. (PHOTOS)

The leaked spec sheet for the XPS 14 claims that it is powered by a 3rd-generation Core i7 “Ivy Bridge” processor backed by 8GB RAM. There’s also an NVIDIA GT 630M 1GB GPU pumping the pixels to the 1600 x 900 LCD display.

Storage is provided by a hybrid 500GB hard drive and 32GB SSD unit. Battery life is listed at 11+ hours.

The XPS 15 has a beefier alleged spec sheet. It too is powered by a 3rd-generation Intel Core i7 “Ivy Bridge” processor and 8GB RAM. However, this time the larger 1920 x 1080 full-HD screen is fed by the more powerful NVIDIA GT 640M 2GB.

Storage is also provided by a hybrid 1TB hard drive and 256GB SSD unit. The XPS 15 is also kitted out with a slot-loading optical drive and the battery life is rated at 8+ hours.

Both the XPS 14 and XPS 15 have backlit keyboards and a full compliment of ports, including HDMI, DisplayPort and USB 3.0. The design of these systems is similar to that of the XPS 13 in that they make use of Corning Gorilla Glass, machined aluminum and carbon fiber to create a shell that is lightweight, yet strong and hard-wearing.

If the specification of the final devices lives up to the leaked specification, then these ultrabooks will be ideally suited to enterprise users looking for thin-and-light systems that are powerful enough to get the job done. At the same time, they will also sport a battery that is capable of lasting through a full day of work.

T he XPS 13 starts at $999, so I would expect the XPS 14 and XPS 15 to come in at around $1,299 and $1,499 respectively.

Really? The starting price if the XPS15 is around $1200-$1400? That would be insane, and not good.

Price might not be definitive, and on XPS15 it's 1,2 TB HD + SSD !!
What a beast !!!

Not to mention IVy bridge, it will make them 40% faster ;-)



Screen rocks, viewing angle seems wonderful !
Seems more robust than the previous models...

All are with the high end XPS13 keyboards, well those rocks i m happy i have been waiting for those.

Asked THOUSANDS of times, but they just cannot say anything. End of story. Dell is a company and has a policy, and everyone who works for Dell must respect it. It's sad, but we have to wait

 

They'll be released sometime around the 27th - 30th of June. Bills hinted we're only a week and a half away.. The price is going to be the big one!

I think 1,299 would be a better price for the XPS. Probably 1,199 for the most basic configuration or for university students.

This has been in my cart since preorder. Changed to delivery in 1 to 3 months yesterday.

When the XPS 15 comes out, will it be eligible for the $200 university credit? That's the major selling point of the XPS for me right now.

If it's $1499.00 for that configuration count me in big time. A 1TB HDD and 256GB msata, that's a steal!

 

Be sad if they start it at 1499$ with that configuration, when there would be a clear easy way to drop the prices and hit a lot more of the market.

FHD screen improved to 858:1 contrast, matte, etc. Only negative things I saw were the temps (little high on the computer, no idea about CPU temps didn't look) and the connectivity options.

 

I'd put my money on the week after that. Closer to June 26.

 

I agree I would be too. But would expect it to start for less, that would be a new standard starting a config with 2 drives and no option for 1 (unless maybe the upgrade is 512 ssd solo). Either way I am in.

Is there any chance that XPS 15 or XPS 14 will come with DOS instead of Win 7...
And it will handy as Win 8 is bound to come out in a while...

 

I'm 99% certain these will come with Win 7 home premium by default. Upgradeable only to more expensive windows options.

that's nice but i want a 15.6" system it has everything i want number pad good graphics and processor options .. but the 15" has a bad screen and sound of they add a 1080p screen with the same 800+:1 contrast and the JBL speakers with sound alive also fix that structural flaw over the optical drive it would be perfect for me .. Samsung got work to do

 

XPS 14 is 4.7lbs, how could they call it ultrabook? when all others have less than 3.7lbs (14")
XPS 15 is 5.8 lbs

It's not actually 2 hard drives it the large terabyte HDD for storage and than an msata SSD which is much smaller than a regular SSD. I assume it will start cheaper as the base configuration would not be a 1TB HDD and 256GB msata SSD. I assume it would be more along the lines of a 500GB HDD with a 50GB msata.

 

They say it would be $1499 for the XPS15, $1299 for the XPS14.

I probably will buy the 15" on november/december hoping that Dell Costa Rica releases some coupons for the holidays, also I'm waiting for read all the reviews before buying it, this would be my very first laptop so I wanna be 100% secure about the Dell.

Also if the release price is around $1000 I have to add like $130 of shipping and 13% of country taxes. =(

About the SSD I hope that it could be more options, I've read few information about SSD's but it looks like they're waaay better than a current mechanic HDD.

About the SO, it's 100% it will bring Windows but I read that it will have an Ubuntu option for developers but I'm not sure, if Bill or someone of you guys can talk something about it ,it would be great.

 

Considering the 15R SE with similar specs but worse design and quality is starting at $1299.... I dont see the XPS15 with slightly better specs and a much nicer design / quality to be any less.

EDIT: This is for the Australian Dell site... not sure how much they put on top of our prices.

 

You are confusing voltage with wattage... 19V is pretty much standard for external adapters, but the interior components run max at 5V, so the voltage is converted in every peripheral...

Your thoughts were correct if you've referred to the wattage, so the wall adapter is capable of delivering 90W or so, and 30ish is used to power the system, then up to 60W is available to the battery for recharge... If in a peak power usage the board need 100W or more, the full 90 from the wall plug are used *and* the battery will be discharged...

 

was just an example man i haven't done physics since form 3 so sorry if i mixed it up at least some one gets what im saying ... lol but essentially yea even if the battery is full the system will still draw a small amount of power from battery as a means of keeping it 100% so it actually fluctuates between 100 and 99% and kinda makes the system ready for a power switch from ac to battery as well im just saying i can be wrong about this

ssd configs might start @ 64bg or 128gb for the os ....i hope an the rest is storage

1080p is standard but i feel there will be a regular matt 1080p WLED with gg over it and 1080p RBG LED wit gg for a higher price

So, in other words: enclosed batteries degrade faster, no matter what you do. Isn't it? Also temperature will be higher inside the laptop

 

dude all batteries degrade it depends on alot of factors i my current gateway has no battery cuz it took a bad surge after that the battery lasted ah year an 1/2 u can say if u got voltage issues it may affect it moisture may affect it
if i can afford it im ordering mine on a dell business account so im gonna see if i can get 5yrs warranty if not ill keep extending it if my battery kills out dell an watch them change it for me in the comfort of my house.

remember batteries now have their own mother broad per say to regulate stuff like charging and when to stop as well as battery health .... ive seen them in HP systems when they show some video so dont worry your good

 

Well, the XPS 13 is $999 on the US site or £949 on the UK site. The XPS 15R SE is £749 on the UK site, so I would suspect it will be around $800 on the US site. That leaves a good bit of leeway for the XPS 14 and 15 to be around $1000. Generally, with most sites, it's a 1:1 USD to Euro conversion or very close to it.

Even if i share your hope, I highly doubt there will be two 1080p options: if there were a 1080p RGB LED maybe only 1 customer out of 1000 would buy the WLED...

This last thing makes me relax a bit you should know that I had a really bad experience with my current HP (after 1 year my battery lasted 0.0000001 secs maybe instant shut down without AC ), so I am a bit anxious about it

 

Hmm fair enough, so everyone but the US pays a lot more for the same product!

£749 converted to US$ is around $1170ish US... so if its only $800 in the US damn we are getting ripped of here in Australia where its $1299....

 

The base 15R SE is 899 (881 member price) with a core i5, and goes up to 1238 (priced down to 1077) maxed out on the Dell Advantage site in the US. (i7 with 8 gb ram, 1 tb hdd, 32 gb ssd, 1 year in home service, BD-ROM, etc)

Hopefully that helps you see how much Australia price compares.

 

Its available now for Dell Advantage members. its 881 for the base up to 1070 for XPS 15 like specs.

 

I'm guessing this has a lot to do with import taxes in other countries more than you getting ripped off :-/

I was talking about the High specced XPS like 15R SE... so $800 US for that would be quite cheap or a rip of here.

Here the best spec is $1099 until the 21st, normally $1299...

So again I dont think you'll get a XPS15 with the same specs as the 15R SE high spec machine for less than $1299 normal, $1099 special... should be more since its a higher grade machine.
