With every new piece of information, seems like nothing puts it ahead. They have solved the red problem on the Envy, right?
-
I'm afraid not, the radiance panel it's exactly the same as the one used on last generation envy.
-
Looking at the envy thread it seems to have been solved to some extent at least. Either way it's not a problem for anyone but people who need super accurate color reproduction (photo editors)
-
We have many information, unless on the Screen technology, so we don't know if it's a PLS, IPS or TN.
-
I don't need super accurate color reproduction, but i don't want see orange instead of red like i see in a Envy review, if this is the price for IPS maybe TN is better.

Looking for the owners' lounge thread to open up soon, if we have a product like this one soon to release.
Those are the ones.
Direct2Dell focuses mainly on US product launches. They don't normally post anything when a product launches in other regions first.
When a region gets a particular system to sell often depends much on how they sold through the old stock first. If Aus sells out of the previous gen Product X before the US does, Aus will request they get the next gen earlier in order to avoid a "gap out" (situation where you have a hole in your product line). The recent Alienware refresh was an example of our dealing with multiple regional gap outs before Intel lifted IVB embargo. We couldn't say we were selling IVB, so we said we were offering them with SB, all the while on the back end the SB SKUs were automatically showing IVB parts at the factory. Then when embargo lifted, we were suddenly shipping them with IVB the same day.
Email sent.

edit: double
-
It's supposedly been recallibrated now to show reds correctly.
-
I repeat, the real big issue is that that ips display miss one important color ( violet or purple, don't remember). In ENVY forum here some users posted a test where you see a kind of circle filled with all color and in envy case blue color OVERLAP the area that should be occupied by purple/violet.
-
So I guess that's it for today? Really sucks that we have best buy specs and still no press about the xps...
-
This means that calibration is not solution?
-
I got a little question. The Inspiron 17r special editition came on the indian dell website today(Don't know about others). It's for about 1200 US $
Inspiron 17R Special Edition Laptop Details | Dell India
It has the 2GB variant of the 650M, an option to upgrade to the core i7 ivy bridge processor and the option for FHD and the mSATA hard drive.
My question is, with the rates that have been suggested and the hardware that people have guessed/confirmed, what is the reason one wouldn't buy the inspiron 17r SE over the XPS 15? apart from the hideous design of the inspiron as compared to the XPS(in the photos at least).
Help me out, which one should I go for out of the two? -
sorry double post, pls mod delete if you wish.
-
Sorry, in a hurry, could be that someone else posted this already, but no time to read back now...
Tweakers.net recieved more info on the new dells:
Specificaties en foto's Dell XPS 14 en 15 komen naar buiten | Core | Tweakers.net Nieuws -
Yep, this was (is) not a calibration matter....even if HP tried to spread the message that it's a calibration matter and some weeks ago put in its download area a proprietary (?) calibration tool. Obviously customers lolled at HP for this.

Yeah, not sure if it was already noticed or commented on, but interesting, different look for the 14 than what we saw. I think this is what Bill was hinting at when people complained about a silver finish and wanting more black in the scheme.
-
Previously, in this thread someone have suggest Samsung Chronos Series 7 like XPS 15 alternative, but from notebookcheck.com review it run very hot and throttling too.
Test Samsung Serie 7 Chronos 700Z7C Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests (only German language)
This is an example of what i don't want from an XPS15. -
That's too bad. So besides viewing angles, is there any image quality advantage that IPS brings over TN displays? If not, maybe the dell display will be as good as HP's radiance one (not accounting for color issues)
-
YEAH Lovely!
.... as long as it IS carbon fiber, and not plastic ! -
think bill hinted at this the other day.. must be an option. prefer the aluminium though..

And is that an ExpressCard/34 slot next to the SD slot that wasn't in previous images? But no such thing in the 15? Hmmm... -
Hmm, the ports on the left side look okay, but the lid looks weird in that photo.
The "Chinese leaked" photos include this:
-
I was to ask just the same thing, what the new slot?
Maybe is battery indicator like XPS13?
-
Here's another view:
The minimalistic design is beautiful. Can't wait to have my hands on that XPS 15. -
I think it is the 14, because of the 2 usb on the left. Btw, I think it's an awful design, it would be MUCH better all black. That silver part ruins all the look. I think it should be all silver or all black, not half and half
Speaking about display, I can't understand this IPS fever: how do you use your notebook? Standing next to the table , upside down, looking at the opposite side?? Personally, I sit in front of the laptop and regulate the display inclination in order to have it perpendicular to my sight line, so an IPS it's not more useful than a TN at all...

L521X Owner's Lounge?

Not every time... In Italy if I recall correctly (saw some weeks ago), the Inspiron 15 SE starts at 799 w/ FullHD.
-
I have zero interest in these new XPS laptops, but the Inspirion 17R SE is definitely interesting.

Unless it's built-in, I'm guessing that extra slot in the 14 is described in the translation as:
"Additionally, the XPS 14 also available with optional WWAN module for 3G access." -
The second slot on the side of XPS14 is for the sim card which also means that you cannot remove the battery.
-
I think he knows because alfling is from Italy too
-
LOL

I reather like the inspirion 15r SE, it is very nice.
-
Nope, appointed it was the SIM slot... but then I've a question...
Where did they put the battery charge indicator?!? Lookin' at the chinese site photos, it seems that Dell has removed it! Damn, it was useful!
-
They seem to have left out all of the LEDs: on/off, battery, wifi, hdd :s
I hope they at least left the webcam led! -
The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
I asked Downlinx and he stated that the new XPS's don't have any LED indicators on them of any kind, save for that light in the front rim, likely to indicate sleep mode/power on when the lid is shut. -
Ok, but they were extemely useful! Now just to know if your laptop has enough juice for your needs you've to turn it on!
I imagine in the morning, you wake up and you've to go... a click of a button, 1 led only, then in the meantime you dress yourself up and have breakfast you laptop can be charged. -
Seems that images leaked until now (except last XPS14) were of prototypes, so there is still possible that Dell add battery charge indicator in same place, maybe bottom...
-
I am a 15" loyalist so I'm glad to finally start seeing some good 15" ultrabook options. I'm also considering the new Vizio notebooks which are possibly the sexiest I've ever seen, although they don't have a backlit keyboard or optical drive. I wish the XPS 15 base model was a bit cheaper though. I don't know if I can justify spending $1250 for this when the thinner, lighter Vizio CN15-A0 is only $900.
It will be a tough decision, that's for sure. -
I hope so, but the better place IMHO is where apple put theirs... on the front...
-
The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
Possibly, and hopefully, but these are images of the bottom that came with the image of the new top on the 14. I'm not seeing anything different:
XPS 14
XPS 15
-
Looks like the battery meter is in the top left corner...
5 bars and the button could be right underneath it to the right of the screw. -
Maybe is in front, or maybe there isn't
-
Are you doing just a supposition? Or you know it for sure?
From images i can see it... -
I'm just saying from the look of it. It's a bit weird to have extra "circle/screw" to the top left and above it looks like meters to me. Who knows?
-
Oh my god...that design, those specs (quad-core i7, 640M with 2GB GDDR5)...this is my dream notebook. I must admit that I'm so impressed that I can ejaculate now without touching...
-
Those are not real images but computer generated, there is no finger slot to remove the metal plate.
-
ok take it down hoss EWW too much info keep it clean ... -_-
-
Seems legit

take it easy lol
