Is it me or I just can't see anything![]()
Can you guys put up the picture from which you took that conclusion?
-
However, the battery should be at the bottom, under palm rest, not at the top. So why putting LEDS at the top?
EDIT: They actually ARE at the bottom (opposite to the screen attach)!
-
This is a really nice notebook, but compared to my sager, i will stick with sager but i do wish it had the dell display. truly amazing is all i can say.
-
This is a real image of XPS 13 (from XPS13 thread):
Maybe it's true, some images leaked have poor detail to look real, if the images of bottom are real this means there aren't rubber gaskets to block XPS over table like XPS13, so XPS 14/15 can flight out from table very often
It does not have sense that battery charge indicator was on bottom, in this position it can be pressed unintentionally and so discharges battery. -
The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
Are you still under the NDA? -
so is this coming out on the 21st?
-
Why in the world would it come out on the 21st??
-
How does it compare to the newer IPS displays? If it compares favorably I may be sold. Also are you allowed to tell us why you prefer the sager?
-
I think he wrote maybe 70 pages ago (can't remember for sure) that, even though it's not IPS, the display has a really wide range of angles of view. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to put words inside your mouth downlinx!
-
He says nothing about display technology, he only says that he likes XPS15 display than his Sager display.
-
I think he actually edited the post because of the NDA, I'm pretty sure about it...
-
The bottom is black plastic? Thought the whole thing was brushed aluminum including the bottom like a MBP. But I guess this is nicer and has better heat distribution
-
Wowowowow the xps 15 looks sleek! I want, but I ordered a 13 in vaio. Guess I will wait a few months until there are some good coupons out and pick up one of these beasts. xps 14 would have been absolutely killer and my imo best nb on the market if it had a full out processor those ultrabook processors are weak sauce.
-
I think it will be carbon-fiber composite, like XPS 13. So there should be resin
-
I would be happy enough if Dell carries the current AUO 1920x1080 TN panel in the L502X over to the new XPS 15. (That panel is used in certain Sager/Clevo models, incidentally.) I won't mind if the new panel is even "better"!
-
If you look a while back in the thread, we discovered the GPU configurations from earlier leaks. I was a little surprised by the non-inclusion of the 650M in the XPS, but the use of GDDR5 does at least pull it into the range of the DDR3 650M (and maybe a bit higher?).
The 630M on the 14 was probably the main disappointment. Not only because that was the model I was considering
(), but also because the chassis size seems almost clearly to have been able to accomodate the 640M. I wonder if maybe this was done just to differentiate products (14 vs 15) rather than necessitated by thermal or power considerations. Otherwise, why else put a part that appears in a smaller/lighter ultrabook (Asus UX32VD) and is significantly slower than the 640M in a competitors' similar-class product (Gigabyte U2442 w/ 640M)?

3 days ...
))

You mean 10 days
-
I'll revisit this topic someday if we ever release a product similar to that speculated about here.
-
If we were to count the number of times you said that, we might be expecting you to write 10 pages for us
lol
In the end, you may wish you never release such a "product" in the end
HAHAHA
-
"if we ever release a product similar to that speculated about here" ? L521x appears also in the official support page LOL
-
I'm here too when he posted, but unfortunately i didn't seen this post, maybe he have edited very fast
Unfortunately, this is one of few sure things, there will not be display of the L502X.
We know for sure only some screen specs like 350 nits e 500:1 contrast. -
yes i am
no i am not -
and if display was this...
AUO - TFT-LCD -
Grazie. Mi piace questo XPS 15.
-
Brightness numbers seem off, no?
-
I looked at the speculated prices.... I just wondering how much i should "Expect" this awesome notebook to be at the "best spec" possible.
Additionally, i do not urgently need the notebook. When do deals typically come out? July 4? I am from the USA. -
Hard to know for sure. The current L502X AUO FHD panel has 300 nit brightness.
-
Have you used the 15R SE Bill? How is the graphics switching? (AMD Enduro)
-
I don't feel like searching this thread, but I thought the panel that was accidentally put on dell's site had 350 nit brightness.
-
I haven't spent enough time with it to evaluate.
-
Yes, but is the only model from AU optronics with specs near to leaked specs XPS.
Samsung display have one with similar specs but is always 300 nits
Technology&Product > Product > Note/Tablet
Now I search for LG panel... -
This is LG panel near to XPS leaked specs (330nits and 500:1 contrast):

LG have IPS panel with same form factor, but have terrible response time:
http://www.lgdisplay.com/lgdhp/app/productPopup/noteView6.dev?seq=205
If ENVY uses it is very bad...
Info from LG site:

Okay. I would definitely be interested to read about it. It would be nice to know the reasoning behind the decision, at least. Perhaps some of the frustration is simply from the fact that, otherwise, it looks just about perfect. However, 4.7 lbs is really above where I wanted to go in terms of weight. I would have done it for the GPU, and I kind of wanted to given the nice design. However, since a 630M kind of limits the gaming potential, it seems like I may as well just drop it completely and consider an 'ultrabook' with a display resolution above 1366x768 (e.g. X1 Carbon or something like that).
As always, thank you for the response, Bill
-
Thanks for all the research, just noticed the Best Buy site lists the 15's screen at 300 cd/m2... looks like its the AU panel you found.
-
I bought this display for a replacement as a I cracked my B+RGLED Screen on my L502X
http://www.lgdisplay.com/lgdhp/app/productPopup/noteView5.dev?seq=204
The panel has light colors and looks very grainy cause of the matte coating. The colors aren't that sharp and appear to be a bit washed. The brightness is great though, no problems with that at all. I wish I would have ordered another B+RGLED screen. The one complaint about the AUO B+RGLED screen is the color tended to distort occasionally. If LG made a B+RGLED screen that would be great, I'll have to look on their site to see if they do. -
For all its worth, the leaked Best Buy offers posted earlier show this:
And we know that there is only one screen option. -
Yet Dell inadvertantly leaked that the screen was 350nits. BB could have done a mistake, it clearly wouldn't be the first time!
-
Sooooooooo saying as the xps 17 is most likely non existent, do you guys think the xps 15 or the Sager NP9170 17" would be a better pick? Based on what i've been seeing, for about the same price, the sager blows the xps out of the water but its not as sleek. Xps or sager? or anything else?
-
Maybe the "geek squad optimization" takes away some brightness. I would NEVER buy a laptop from best buy.

New Inspiron 17R Special Edition Laptop details | Dell
Inspiron 17 SE is where I'd go if you were looking for a 17. -
Could i ask a stupid question here and what, other than build quality, does the xps have over the Inspiron 17 SE?
-
It looks nice but there's literally 0 hardware customization options that I can see. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any options to change the memory or storage or anything else besides which software I want.
-
Build quality, style, and often in my experience, dell provides better after purchase service to their higher end product lines (for example, I had an alienware monitor go at 7 pm on a wednesday. I had a brand new monitor on my front step at 10 am thursday.)
-
God I really hope the bottom side is not like this on the XPS models. How the heck are the users suppose to change the RAM and hard drives? If this is the final outlook of the Dell XPS models on the underside, this will be a travesty. I am leaning more and more towards picking up one of the L702X models before they switch over to the new XPS models. I want the ability to upgrade the RAM and the hard drives.
-
So the inspiron line gets the 650m, but the xps line gets topped out at with a 640m... I really hope all leaks are wrong and Bill announces the xps 15 will ship with an option for the 650m.
-
This is the final design (it says XPS right on the metal tag). Dell posts tear-down guides of all of their products and once you unscrew the bottom they are easy to work with. Someone posted a video of the XPS 13 being tore down.
-
Can't say about this year's XPS and Inspiron SE models yet, but usually it has been that XPS machines are of "higher quality" than Inspiron, in terms of design, materials, construction and support.
I own various Inspiron, Studio, XPS, Latitude and Precision models of different generations. This year's "Special Edition" models blur the lines a bit at the mid-low end. -
Fair enough that's a big plus. It's just the 17 SE has a better graphics card from the speculated one for the XPS 15 and the same i7 quad core processor all for probably due to ty taxes here in the UK for probably £500 more :/ My hearts set on the XPS but the money is an issue and cost - benefit etc thou shall see in due course
thanks for the reply tho mate.
-
Theres probably hidden screws and the entire bottom panel removes. The Studio XPS 16 was like that, but the screws were visible. If thats the case, Id much rather have that than the current xps. That thing was pain in the rear to get access to the mother board, while removing one panel reveals all harware on my xps 16.
