If you are looking for a gaming machine, I think you are on the wrong thread. Dell do offer the Alienware range dedicated to gaming.

Same here. Couldn't pull the trigger on the Zenbook because there's no SSD option on the VD model. That's a beautiful machine though

Again seems you just chose to only address the first part of my post and totally ignored the second part where i realised the card reveiwed was the desktop version and that the mobile version has enough oomph to play even the most recent games at decent quality. I never in my post said i was looking for a gaming laptop so please next time try and read the whole post before posting a response.. sheesh

got to talk to a dell executive yesterday. he says they launch the XPS on 26th. Though he weirdly said there's no xps 15 coming. Don't know why that is! He did say the xps 14 was launching!

Someone in the Asus forum opened up the VD and it looks like you can fit a 7mm SATA drive in there, in place of the HDD. So, just buy an SSD and put it in :)

Yeah it's not. It was leaked on best buy last night and I screen shorted it. Says 4gb of RAM and upgradable to 8gb. Also listed at $1,048.98 which is under what was expected!

Anyone have any more info on release date

Wow, thanks downlinx! You said before that colors are even better than the Sager and also viewing angles are stunning!

That means L521x has a screen with high color gamut(?)! :)

Also, most probably L521x has a PLS or a high quality TN panel(better than L502x) with that kind of viewing angles!

You wouldn't want higher gamut than what 502x's screen provided, at that point you move into wide gamut screens and need every app to have a profile to support those otherwise colors start getting screwy.

I m saying that gamut value of L521x is comparable to L502x, according to the Downlinx's comment.

Despite some users being pissed about the XPS 15 not having a GT650: Is the GT640 good enough to play Diablo 3 with a high frame rate on medium settings on a 1366 x 768 resolution?

If so, I'l go for it...

Release date is currently UNKNOWN and rumors put it on these dates:
June 21, 22, 26, 28, 29. Basically we have no clue besides the fact that it's imminent and will happen in the next 8 days for sure.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

that link has gaming benchmarks. The fps for the various games should be tad higher considering that the 640m in the xps will be ddr5 and the cpu will be full powered not ultrabook ulv

    ------------------

for D3, the ddr3 at 1080p high AF and full AA u get around 34 fps a few above the bareminimum of 30. So u would be looking at around 40-50 fps ultra/maxed out d3 on laptop

Back to notebook review after a while.

Went through this thread form top to bottom.
    These are my opinions

Trackpad Gesture Support is supported on most of the laptop with Synaptics touch pad . Just install the latest driver from synaptic support page [x86/x64]

I use it on my old Studio 1435 Win7 64 for past 2 Years

I don't want a Laptop in which every thing is soldered to one Mother board

    1 Hard to Upgrade
    2.
    If Ram fails-------Replace MOBO
    If GPU fails-------Replace MOBO
    If CPU fails-------Replace MOBO
    Any cards fails-----Replace MOBO

What about the the data inside the flash[SSD] it goes with the MOBO.[Its hard to retrive]
Only Solution carry a Portable HDD and Mirror it all the time or uplaod.
Simple solution don't even buy it.

    3. If its not under warranty ,better throw the laptop.

SSD-HHD Hybrid is something that provide storage and performance at low cost. I really want this features.

Would HHD be Idle most of the time?????????????????????
    If yes great.

In India 1080p Screens are not their selling points. For a 15" screen
new XPS 15,old Studio 1555 all maximum screen option was 1366*786. Even for other Brands like HP Lenovo Tosobha

Only 15z has and the 17" model has FHD screens.

So I'm interested in New Dell XPS 521X.

I'm not a Dell Fanboy. Dell's quality in India is too low these day.
Dell Assembly Center Sriperumbudur Tamil Nadu...is one of the worst.
Most of the Inspirons are Dead after a week of arrival

But I'm Still going for dell because it is one of the least laptops that have charging disable feature.

Most of the time I use my Studio 1435 with the power supply with charging disabled. I use the laptop for 10 hours a day. This results in reducing the charge cycles per year for the lithium-ion battery.Three year old studio 1435 still give 1.5-2 hours of backup!!!

    True story
    Win 98SE >Ok good

Have heard a fake news that Win98 had failed on the Msoft preview

It depends on the battery driver IC laptop uses. It is independent of battery enclosure

My friends XPS 14z has this feature. I always recommend this feature to every one to save their battery.

It will only work if you have Dell QuickSet Installed
Studio, Inspiron, XPS, Vostro, Latitude.....Has this.
    It doesn't work on Linux :( .

On Studio 1435 you have to press Fn+F3[Battery logo] or Right click on th power> Click Battery Meter

Click Battery Life tab>You will find disable Charging Check Box.

Other brand don't have this feature because they want to sell their battery packs too..Lenovo Thinkpad Line has it

I said because if you've not an enclosed one you can just unplug the battery to preserve it, but with an enclosed battery that's the only way. I've looked in my brother's XPS15 and I found it, great thing!
Please, tell me if I'm right or if I misunderstood: if I deactivate battery charge and let the battery plugged, the battery won't be neither charged nor discharged, it will use power from the cable, but if the electric power falls (i.e. for line problems) the laptop will keep running?

Assumedly, whatever version of the 630M in the Vostro 3460 Dell uses will be used in the XPS15, in case anybody is wondering.

I also contacted Dell and they told me they have no info yet and they usually get the info a week before product launch so, "in theory" it would mean that it won't come out until at least next friday.

I can second that! My 6 years old Inspiron 9400, with a synaptics touchpad got quite an improvement with the latest drivers... Not only did I gain gestures, but I also gained "multi-touch"...

I never knew it could be done through software... I always though multi-touch required different hardware to be able to detect more than one finger at the same time! So it was quite a surprise to me!

Other thing I always loved about synatics, is their "palm detection", which helps a lot when your typing, and don't want your mouse to fly away because your palm rested on the touchpad! Works pretty well!

It's not fake... Just look-it-up on youtube... It's one of the most famous Bill Gates video out there...

It happened during an early preview of Windows 98 (first edition I presume). it was during a conference, and Bill Gates was on stage too... They wanted to demonstrate the new "plug and play" technology, by plugging in a USB scanner, and seing it install drivers automatically...

But when they plugged it in, the computer went BSOD instead, which made the crowd laugh!

But Bill Gates caught it up really well by saying "That must be why wer're not shipping windows 98 yet".... :D

Quite an achievement for companies that rely heavily on shipping... Dell should adopt this too :D
