Yeah I know, I guess on all other forums, facebook, twitter, whatever, there are so many arguments started over macvspc so i suppose it was just expected that he was trying to. And it does seem a little suspicious to see someone post on a Dell XPS forum page just to compliment a mac and say what the dell doesn't have. Soo...
-
I completely agree.
Jessica Alba is hotter than Drew Berrymore. That's also my opinion. If you were to poll, I'm guessing maybe 90+% would agree with me. It's an analogous situation. -
anyway... pm'd

The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
No. Jessica Alba being hotter than Drew Barrymore is not an opinion... that's fact.
Let's be clear. That's not even up for debate. Of course with Alba you're climbing the Derek Jeter herpes tree, but that's a topic for another thread...

LOL guys, MBP starts at 2200$, how can you say that XPS will be priced close to the bottom spec MBP?
-
No the bottom specd MPB not Retina.
-
maybe he was referring to the non-retina mbp? I don't know, I was talking about the latest gen.
-
Because the bottom spec MBP starts at $1,199.99..Only the retina display MBP is priced above $2,200
-
DUDE. I didn't know she got the herps from him! Not cool! (all-time fantasy ruined)
. Haha.
-
That's the 13" one: MacBook Pro Computers - Buy MacBook Pro with 13-inch, 15-inch, or Retina display - Apple Store (U.S.)
The 15" starts at $1 800!
EDIT: So I guess with the flyer that Auron recieved, Bill's comments and the YouTube video on Dell's channel that mentions it right in the title and description.... I guess it is coming out tomorrow? -
Did you guys know it has Nvidia GT 630M and is upgradeable to 640M with Optimus?
-
For cleaning the sticker residue - try to do what they do to clean gum up from carpet, etc - it's an aerosol that freezes it and then you can just gently scrape it off.
-
Yes, we do
Can you scan it and post it here now? Please?
-
Y no one post no more
-
13" starts at 1199$, but we're speaking about 15", which starts at 1800$...with a chassis already proven to overheat, 5400 rpm HDD, glossy display, no SSD at all...any difference with XPS 15?
-
All the leaks come from Eastern Europe (Poland, Romania and Hungary) People of the West are afraid to copy a leaflet. Shame on you!
-
Haha, yea. Come on Auron!!!
-
Scan > Upload > Post.

Disclaimer: This is not me speaking on behalf of Dell. If you try this, and don't like the results, Dell is not responsible for cosmetic damage.
I've heard WD40 removes sticker residue without damaging the soft touch finish. I'll grab a unit and wipe some WD40 on it and see if it damages anything. Don't try this unless you've done it before and can confirm it works. I'll let you know my observations, which would still be covered by my disclaimer, even if I say "it works." -
Hmmm.... That'd be awesome if you could try it!! The stickers wouldn't bother me more than a wrecked finish would. :S
(Asking again, just because
: Any releases tomorrow?)
-
So if the laptop is released tomorrow, when will it actually show up in retail stores? I'd like to try the laptop for myself before I actually commit to buying it.
-
Dudes, I'm exited as you but maybe he's busy now...I'm sure he will post it ASAP, otherwise why telling us about that e-mail?
It should be available immediately -
Safest way to remove sticker residue is to use strong packaging tape. Stick it on the affected area and remove. Every time some residue will be removed with packaging tape. Repeat until you remove everything.

In case anybody is curious, Anandtech reports that the MBPw/RD actually has better temps than the previous generation, and they're actually pretty impressive. I'm surprised nobody has referenced it yet.
AnandTech - The next-gen MacBook Pro with Retina Display Review
A couple graphs/quotes:
-
I suspect the new non-retina MBP will not have major issues with heat. Same chassis with a 22nm CPU and 28nm GPU should help compared to last gen. Its not likely to be a huge change. However, it should be a bit better since real world reports are that despite both parts having approximately the same TDP as last gen, they actually run a bit cooler.

Half Life 2...
why not Quake III while we're at it. Oh look at the aM4z!nG job Apple has done with the cooling system ! It never gets past 50°C playing Sim City 2 !

just found this!!!
New! XPS 15 laptop details â Entertainment laptop | Dell Australia
full details. just about to buy full specced model -
no bluray option??
-
it's one of the very few intensive games for osx... it's as good as any when testing throttling and temps, since it's not fps-capped. I don't know what loop thay are using, but I'm confident that hl2 can still hit the cpu for good with a decent number of colliding objects
EDIT: just checked, and it seems hl2 does not take advantage of multicore rendering.... so no, it's not that great -
also found the 14 http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-14-l421x/fs
-
Hmm.. looks strange.
What seperates the 1699 version from the 1999? Same screen hdd graphics RAM etc. -
different processor
-
How do you tell if you are getting the TPM version?
-
Strange. I thought the top model would be around 1600-1700. Hopefully because it is in a different country.
-
Hmm AU dollars to US are the same? I just did a quick google and it showed 1600 = 1600?
Here's the specs page:

Enjoy crisp, bold video playback on a 15.6" Full HD (1080p) display with 350-nit brightness, up to 75% brighter than standard displays. -
Dell's price in Australia is always more it seems
-
australian prices are 30% more than US even though exchnge rate the same
-
Yea, wow! If they are that expensive I think I will have to pass
EDIT
Hmm... So that means the US price for the $1,499 version should be around $1,050? -
there was a discussion a while ago... it seems the aussies are charged a lot more than americans without a discernible reason. The government it's actually investigating.
-
Same processor, difference is 4GB RAM.
Aussie prices are a joke, and there is a lack of customization that will be there in the US version, such as the 256/512GB msata's we saw in the spec sheets. -
Base i7 with 640m is TPM
-
The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
I realize this is still the early-going, but I love how it's all-or-nothing. It's either 1TB @ 5400RPM with 32 mSATA SSD or 512GB SSD for $1,000 more. Where's the 256GB SSD only option?
-
Haha..
MacBook Pro Retina with 650M and 256 GB SSD = 2499 AUD
Dell XPS 15 with 512 GB SSD = 2699
More expensive than the most expensive mac? -
dafuq is this sh*t??? No 7200 rpm HDD option, no blu-ray, (GB Ram only at 2000$!!
Are they high or just crazy???
-
The hungarian page advertised the "great bluray player" in it so im not sure if that was true or not. i hope it has one.
-
How can you tell?
-
There isn't even a mSATA bigger than 32GB!!! And no customization at all?!?!?
-
I hope so too! A multimedia laptop without blu-ray support would be just a bad joke!
-
It says 3rd generation Intel® Core i5-3210M processor (3M cache, up to 3.1 GHz - TPM)
-
http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-14-l421x/fs
Has the 14" models up too. Starting price $1,299 AUS
I sure hope these are all significantly higher priced than the US models will be priced at. And why are they on other dell sites but not the US?
Also, anyone notice how theres only 2 options for HDD and SSD? hmm
