Alright, more news on the laptopscreen.com front.
They've agreed to let me return the screen and sent me a shipping label for it. However, they admitted that they do not actually stock the AUO screen.
As far as the LG screens go, I've done a little more digging. They make a LP173WF1 and a LP173WD1. One is the 900p panel shipped in the l701x and the other is a 1080p version with otherwise the same specs.

If you guys want a nice sharp/bright screen that is almost as good as the AUO B173HW01 v4 in regards to the viewing angles, but has a much better/smoother 2ms (up to 120Hz!) refresh rate, take a look at the LP173WF2. This is the same glossy display panel used in the L702x 3D systems and is 100% compatible with the L701x.
If you have the $$$ and also want to play with 3D operation, you can even get the LCD service kit from Dell that will include the display, Nvidia IR emitter module, and LVDS 50-pin FHD cable that feeds the display, emitter, and camera. You can also obtain the L702x 3D LCD bezel separately.
Here are the part #'s
LCD only = C30PY (LP173WF2 [TP][A1])
LCD service kit = 0G2P6
3D emitter/LCD bezel = W43Y4
When my new L702x Non-3D system shows up next week, I may swap out the LCD with this kit since I am not sure I will be happy with the matte finish of the stock FHD display. We shall see.

Here is a pic of the goods as ordered by my company:

what do you exactly mean by "almost as good as the AUO B173HW01"?
I am searching for the AUO panel for a few days now but didn't find a seller who sells it for a reasonable price.
But I could buy the LP173WF2 panel from various sellers (~170$).
Kind regards from Germany,

Hello, does anybody know what panel is in Asus G73SW - 3D ( matte screen 120Hz) and is it possible to use this panel on XPS l702?
-
As to if it is compatible, I guess we will only know if we find out what screen it is exactly. -
I finally got my hands on the AUO v4 FHD screen and got it swapped.
Wow it is so awesome!
Thanks again to the forum starter, contributors and Lee Barlow.
I couldn't have done it without you guys.
Thanks!

>Providing it's Grade A+ that is, no dead pixels please.
I've had my l702x 900p for a couple of weeks now and I'm not a fan of the glossy display and just can't get used to 900p after using a Dell 2405FPW 24" 1080p+ for over 5 years, I need the 1080p!
I've already sent over an email to kuzotronic. -
Though I grown accustomed to the HD+display through having both the L701x and now the L702x, I would love to have the best of both worlds with a a rig with the max of 16GB RAM, Optimus and WIDI, and the best display available for this model. Who knows? that unicorn may exist.

Did I respond to your enquiry?
I apologise if not....I have been on vacation for a few days and my emails are back-logged !!!!

I'm in the UK looking to buy a 1080 screen to upgrde my L701x
According to device manager I have an SEC544b whichd I believe is a Samsung LTN173KT01-H01 LCD panel.
Can anybody recommend a panel and also a supplier with stock, there seem to be a few on ebay but they dont appear to answer questions about suitability, its also hard to tell if they are offshore.
TIA -

Oh, gosh.. I have to thank Lee Barlow again.
What a huge difference it is... to have AUO FHD screen vs the stock 1600x900 LG screen.
The colors are so real!
Even when I am reading this forum, the colors on this forum look so good and the desktop theme images look awesome!
RedlanceEQ, your awesome signature logo looks 10 times better with this screen -

I used to work as an IT technician for a small computer fix/repair firm. I have changed 100's of laptop screens and removing the bezel has always been a massive issue due to broken teeth. I have read through this thread and most people suggest using the finger method. I agree this is probably the best way to start removing a bezel however I have found 1 thing really effective with most screens once you have the first part loose initially. Generally the teeth like to be pushed into the screen as mentioned previously and this will avoid breakage. The best tool to do this is an old credit card ! ! ! The credit card needs to be placed on the gap you have created on the outside edge of the bezel (not the part that touches the screen that you have been bending backwards to get the initial lift). Running the credit card around the edge and pushing down slightly on it when you hit an obvious tooth, while pulling the bezel part next to the screen will allow it to come away without breakage. It does take practice to get this right but I guarantee that using the credit card method will make removal easier and you will not do as much damage as you could just using the finger method.
Best of luck -
Looking for screen too

Isn't there any supplier which sells the V.5 panel anymore? I can't find anyone
I already got two panels from an Uk-bases supplier called "Notebookbitz" in Ebay, but the first panel had two nasty green pixels, so I sent it back. Two weeks later I've received the replacement panel: Again a green dead pixel!
The service is very inpolite, avoid this supplier! -

Just been catching up with things on the forum. It seems there is a B173HW01 V5 Matte screen available, wow, would like to upgrade from the V4 to this.
Tried to send Kuzotronic a message via the contact form on their site, but it's not working. -
I have the PDF specification for the V5 if you want it....just drop me an email ([email protected]). We don't see this screen however. -
Did you get the V5 in and not let me know?
Where's my email response/update? -
I haven't emailed you because we don't sell this screen.
I just happen to have a PDF of the manufacturers specification.
Don't worry....I will let you know if we get any. -
I have tried to send a message using the 'contact us' tab, composed message but clicking the send button does nothing. -

I entered captcha definitely, i'm a webmaster and well used to such contact forms with captchas. Form did not report an error or confirm it submitted data. Pressing submit just seemed to refresh the page. Was using FireFox 3.6.17 at the time.
-
I wonder whether it has something to do with this release of Firefox? Although I'm using 4.0.1 at work and it appears to work okay?
The form script is actually hosted by a 3rd party so it may be to do with their site being down?
Bizarre. Interestingly, the Kuzotronic site is actually hosted by BigCommerce.com and there have been some bugs reported when trying to drop items into the basket by some customers which I could never understand why. -
IE9 here, same thing

Hello guys,
Today I received my B173HW01 V5 (Price $140 +$45 shipping) matte full hd screen from ebay seller named " screenintaipei" for my Dell XPS17 L701X. The seller sent pictures of packaged and ready to dispatch screen, it arrived after 3 days to EU/Lithuania. The seller declared lower price on the customs sheet, so I did not have to pay any import dutiesIt was very well packed, so no damage could be done during transit. It arrived very safely and promptly. Recommended seller.
The screen is awesome, especially the matte part. It does not catch any reflections. Installed it without any problems using this guide. Highly recommended screen for this price.
Just one question about the color profile. I used the v4 version's color profile. To me the colors look fine, but are the really, that is the question. Hopefully one will come up with the right color profile.
Check out the pics below.

Real nice! Glad to hear you found a source for that screen! How much did you pay for it?
I went on e-bay to that seller to see but he had none to sale unfortunately: laptop panels items - Get great deals on NEW B173RW01 V3 17.3'' LCD LAPTOP SCREEN EXACT items on eBay Stores!
EDIT: Looking at your pictures, you did shut down the computer before unplugging the screen and swapping it, right? -
It cost me $140 + $45 shipping. And it was worth it!
Of course I did a full shut down. Just the state of machine when taking photos was the same -
just a heads up, screenintaipei (ebay) has a couple V4 and V5 available right now!
edit: V4s are gonnne.... -
what is the different between V4 or V5 and so on? Holidays are around the corner and I am trying to resist not to spend money now... but your pictures...

V5 = matte -
Hi Guys
1) I just received L702x 1080p AG screen which I dislike because of uneven "gritty/sandy", "sparkly" anti-glare coating that is visible especially in bright solid areas (like spreadsheet). Are these screens better, in particular, are solid colors solid or they have this "dusty look" as well?
2) Will the AUO and Hannastar panels fit L702x as well?
I might keep the laptop if I can change the screen...thanks for the info! -
1) I presume you meant your stock screen is by LG? Yes, the AUO and Hannster screens are a much improvement over the LG panel. The issues you mention are inherent in the LG panels.
2) The AUO screen definitely works on the L702x....I am not sure about the Hannstar but it should work just fine as the L701x and L702x are almost architecturally identical (excluding SATA3, GPU and Sandybridge upgrades)...but you know what I mean. -
I am tempted by a V5 matte screen, but I would have to do without multi touch otherwise that would just add a glossy film back over the screen.
When I upgraded from LG 1600x900 to AUO B173HW01 V4 on my Dell 1749 I reported on this forum the brightness adjust keys no longer worked. The only way seemingly to adjust screen brightness was via ATI Graphics Card settings.
Last week I finally got around to changing the LCD cable from normal to 'Full HD' Cable which I had bought seperately. Well I can report this made no difference, after updating bios, quickset you name it I tried it. Brightness keys still will not adjust brightness.
However, I did find a cool free utility on google 'Desktop Lighter' to adjust screen brightness using it's own hotkeys cntrl + < or > -
Hey everyone, my first post here.
I have been following this thread for a long time and finally upgraded my Dell 1749 panel from the poor 1600x900 + touchscreen to an AUO V4.
The screen is absolutely sweet, though mine has 2 stuck white pixels..oh well, its better than dead ones.
Jaze22, I installed my new panel but I did not put the touch screen layer on, so now my screen has a 3mm gap where the bezel is. No big deal for me, however I had some questions for ya.
When u install the touch layer over the V4, do u lose any visual quality or contrast? Also my touch layer was semi faulty where sometimes it would go clicking on the screen by itself...assuming from the noise or the field it picks up. Anyways, just thinking whether its worth putting it back on.
Oh and also, i also do not get to control my brightness anymore via the laptop, again no big deal for me, as im applying ATI colours anyways, so im just dropping the brightness down to around 25-30%, this way I get deeper blacks and the contrast seems a little better.
Cheers
