In theory, yes, but I no longer have an L701x to test and confirm. If possible, please check to confirm if your LVDS cable is the 31mm long 50-pin. I will look around here as well and see if I still have a L701x stock cable to check.

    Thanks Scott,

I don't want to waste your time, I don't need the monitor now, it's because I would like to know if I can install it or not, to buy it in the future.

    screen replacement DONE...

thanks muchly to scott for the screen itself... found it a bit difficult to take the bezel off, but a flathead screwdriver sorted that... additionally I just untaped the entire webcam along with the screen and didn't bother pulling the connector out

results are pretty amazing so far, didn't realise the amount of light bleed from the previous 900p screen until I compared it to the 1080p

anyway, if anyone's considering it... go for it, biggest improvement to the laptop I've made

DAMN!! ww.nbkit.com sended me a AUO B173HW01 V.0 instead of the V.5...
If it was a V4 could be good too, is there a great difference between V.4 and V.0?

screenintaipei's AUO B173HW01 V4 on eBay is a 1920x1050 version, I'm looking for the 1080 one. I did find one but for $65 more, and import duties, taxes, and charges were not included.

Do you guys think the 1050 is really noticeable compared to the 1080? I'm guessing its not, but I'm really picky when it comes to things like this.

Should I just get this 1920x1050 model? (Or can anyone point me to a similar priced 1920x1080 V4?) NEW B173HW01 V4 AUO 17.3" LCD LAPTOP SCREEN LED EXACT | eBay

That is a typo in their eBay listing. The product is in fact the 1080x1920 AUO v.4. so if you do not mind paying their high shipping fee, that is the display panel you want.

I installed the AUO B173HW01 v.4 1080p Screen on my l702x... does work, so as long as it's a genuine screen it'll be fine... be wary though, a lot of people sell "compatible" screens, which means it may not actually be that screen that you receive but a similar one.

    Hi all,
A friend has asked me to repair her Dell Studio 1749. She dropped it and cracked the screen.
I disassembled it and found that the original screen is an AU Optronics model B173HW01 V.4 -- the premium screen many of you XPS owners have upgraded to.
I've found these screens for around $130-140, but my friend doesn't have much money and would rather not spend that much. She doesn't care about the HD resolution or high quality of the screen (all she does on the PC is email and Facebook).
Assuming that the B173HW01 V.4 is a direct replacement for the original screen in your XPS laptops -- the original XPS screen should be a direct replacement for this Studio 1749 right?
Is anyone interested in selling me his/her 'old' screen?

    -Jeff

    ohai!

can see your logic... though I'm not 100% sure it'd work :-S

still have my 900p screen lying around since I swapped it for the B173HW01 V.4, if you're interested in it give me a PM - would be cheaper if you're UK based... and if you are then will always refund if you send the screen back minus shipping fees if it doesn't work?

    let me know

Thanks for the reply Jon and I very much appreciate your offer to assist. However, I think the shipping would be too expensive. I'm located in the State of Ohio, USA. The estimated shipping rate from here to London, UK would be about $40 USD.
    Thanks again though.

Okay, with my birthday looming on the horizon, I'm looking to get myself a B173HW01 V.5 screen to replace my stock one on my L701x. Only reseller I've found so far is screenintaipei on e-bay.

Anyone know of any other ones?

Hello, just saw that notebookcheck site reviewed Deviltech Fragbook Notebook, which has Chi Mei N173HGE-L11 mate screen: the same as on xps l702 non3d. The evaluation is very good. Here is the link: Review Deviltech Fragbook Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
The only downside of this screen, which i experienced is that colors are a little bit unnatural and can't be rectified even after professional calibration with x-rite eye-one.

I am thinking seriously to get one too if is not too expensive.

I asked barlow00 from kuzotronic, but they don't sell it anymore. :(

Already got an answer, that was fast. :)

They made a mistake on my name, but apart from that, looks like it would cost me 155 USD, including shipping. Not too bad imho, around 116 Euros.

chainz - I still have my original screen I could sell you. I was saving it as a backup incase something happens to my new screen but I am very happy with my B173HW01 V.4 replacement. PM me if you're still interested.

I live in Washington, D.C so it would be cheaper/faster shipping

Any idea where i can purchase a replacement screen for my XPS L701X? I see that the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.4 or V.5 is the most popular however I cant seem to find one from one of the suggested retailers. Also is the V4 or V5 better?

    Thanks

sorry, I ended up getting my screen from Scott RC Tek on these forums so don't really know where else may sell a geuine one... apart from the list of resellers on page 1 of this thread which I guess you've already seen

the v4 is glossy, the v5 is matte/anti glare... apart from that I don't really know if there's any difference tbh.

I have updated the list on the first page with a link to where to buy the V4 and V5 screens from AUO.

Also, I am amazed you did not find the V4 screen on the Kuzotronic.com website. They had some when I checked and are very reliable.

Installed the new AU Optronics B173HW01 V.4 and everything was easy to install however I have an issue I am not sure how to resolve. The laptop boots up at full screen, then when my desktop appears its split into three screens. Any idea how to fix this?

Guys - I am having a hell of a time now. The screen swap was easy however it seems to have somehow. I was getting the numerous split screen when first installed now it wont boot to my desktop. It will go through the Dell screen, then Windows 7 screen, resuming windows, then the screen stays grey. Any idea?

In addition - I am able to connect and view the screen via HDMI to my TV but nothing on the laptop screen. Not sure what to do at this point?

Please confirm your video cable part #, the GPU installed, and the driver you are using. Also, what does the BIOS say when you boot into that? Have you tried booting into Windows SAFE mode (bypassing the video drivers)?

It reads like you can view standard VGA content, but when the video driver and/or hardware needs to jump into full resolution; it doesn't play nice. This can be a driver, LVDS cable, or LCD panel issue.

Lastly, what is the exact firmware version listed on the B173HW01 V.4? That would be the numbers to the right of the "B173HW01 V.4" on the sticker. Does it have a Dell D/PN X919N anywhere on the sticker?

Please confirm the Dell part number, which is shorter. The non-3D LVDS cable I have tested is:
    DP/N P4J7R
    FACTORY P/N DDGM7CLC010

See below for the additional channel wires almost all FHD LVDS cable use to support 1080p.

    That should be OK.

Confirm if you have an Optimus enable/disable option there.

If the screen looks OK in the BIOS and SAFE MODE, it is not the LCD panel.

See below for good panel stickers. It looks like you have a good panel.

I would remove ALL current nVidia drivers and THEN first install the Intel HD3000 driver....followed by the latest nVidia drivers. If the issue is still present, time to source a new LVDS cable.

    Scott-

first: cause you've found this topic you are able to do the replacement on your own! Its really good describes in the first post. btw the webcam tape needn't be removed.

second: its worth it! I am still totally happy to have the matte AUO B173HW01 V5. Its so much better in viewing angles, resolution and colours. And the most important thing for me is the really good anti glare finish. You can get it for about 150$!
