Hi All,
Since my 6 month old Studio 1747 has the AU Optronics 1920x1080 screen directly from Dell, I can say I am spoiled and will never go back to anything less on our future 17+" laptops. Now that I have taken delivery of a nice L701x, I am starting to like this beast as well; although the screen is nothing like the AUO on my Studio 1747. SoooOOOoo.... I decided to do what has been discussed in this thread, but contacted our company Dell rep and asked for a quote on the AUO B173WH01 v.4 (Part# X919N)... Well, first he said the only screen available was the 1600x900 (Part# MC13K) @ $154.95 + shipping w/ 90 day warranty and assured me it was "FHD" and 1920x1080. I was forced to educate him on the weird Dell descriptions that can be deceptive and asked him to double check his specs/claims since I knew the typical MC13K is not "FHD" or "B+RG" or "1920x1080". He said he would send it out anyway on Dell's dime and I could confirm one way or another. OK, it will be here this week and will most likely go back to Dell the same day. By the way, Dell can supply the true X919N, but be prepared for an outrageous $450 + s/h price tag (and that can be a refurbished display panel with only a 90 day warranty!).
At any rate, I contacted Jue like many others have done and I now have a box of display panels heading here to sunny San Diego, CA, which should arrive this Thursday. Since my company has a business account at the same bank as Studio Tech. overseas, I did not have to deal with Western Union so it was a quick and smooth transaction.
Now, I will have "FHD" all around and my L701x will become an even better desktop replacement with this enhancement - that Dell should have offered in the first place. Thanks to the original poster for the time he took to document the process and please add me to the true HD L701x ranks.
Regards,
Scott
PS: I may have an extra B173WH01 v.4 panel for someone within the USA if they are looking. Just PM me and we can talk there. -
@Scott_RC-TEK: I can't PM you since you have less than 5 posts...but I am interested in an extra panel (if it is the right one and FHD). How much are you looking for?

Just a friendly suggestion...

@Scott: please check your email
@RoosterRed: that is a darn good idea...this is a good deal for the seller and the buyers as well. The seller can gather up orders (with payments of course) and then start ordering. This is some good business lol -
@jamal33 or Mitchel,
I must have missed a step and I know I saw it somewhere, I have the new screen installed and it works BUT not in normal mode, just goes black after starting windows (I did not change the drivers couldn't find the spot and thought it might still work) It still fully works in safe mode, just wondering if you have any input
Lol please don't tell me to reload os or put old screen back in lol -
Went to safe mode removed the dell driver and now i am in normal mode and will do the modifed drivers
all good so far will post back once i am all done lol
-
Done! WOW this thing is awesome, thank you everyone for putting all this info together couldn't have done it without you guys.
Mitchel special thanks for being the guinea pig and putting all the pics together, Jamal for giving the the info that finally got me in contact with studio tech and RoosterRed for the great post on Dell Graphics Drivers
Thanks! Saves me from tilting the screen so much to make sure I am not missing anything the the PSD design. Have a great night! -
~cheers -
Don't forget RedlanceEQ for collecting all the good stuff together, he's done a bang up job!
If you can, posts some pics and show off your new baby!

Sorry to ask this here -- is there a similar thread for the XPS 15? Have a brother who is interested in getting XPS 15 and swapping in better screen.

Just a note for people ordering the AOU B173HW01 V.4 form Studio Technology, I ordered two of the B173HW01 V.4 screens from them, when they arrived I checked out both screens and one of them has 3 dead pixels. I emailed Jue with Studio Technology and the reply is below;
Sorry for my late reply!
Since I was out of office these days and wouldn’t be able to get access to my emails, please don’t mind!
Regarding the screen with dead pixel, please allow me to say sorry for our packing person since he picked up one of the wrong screens from other’s packaged. I did remind him to send you the screens with zero dead pixels but he had no intention to pack with the wrong one. Sorry again for our mistake. And according to the AUO IIS (the one I sent you), 3 dead pixels are allowed for the A grade, so please don’t be bothered by the screen is not good. I promised to give you the best discount for the next order.
Last but not the least, thank you very much again for your purchasing.
I have emailed Jue back to try and have them send me another screen to replace but have not heard back from them as of yet. -
Day after having the screen, is it just more is anyone else finding everything really small lmao

Sometimes it is possible to fix dead or stuck pixels, expecially on new panels. It might not always work, but while you're waiting (Chinese New Year) you might wnat to give it a shot.
Too bad you got a bad panel though, I hope this gets resolved one way or the other!

Hello all. First post here but long time reader.
I would just like to confirm that this screen will work 100% be for i pull the trigger.
I have read all of this thread and have seen some one mention this panel,
AU Optronics B173HW01 V.0
I'm not going to be doing any high end video or photo editing on this new lap top. Maybe just some media watching and some gaming.
A US supplier has the panel above in stock and ready to ship.
Thanks again for all this great info

Mentioned here - works, but a "less good" option -
After rereading everything in this thread again, i went ahead and ordered a AU Optronics B173HW01 V.0 from https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/.
Will let every one know how it goes.
Again, Thanks to all the wounder full info in this thread

Let us know how it goes as the V.0 could be an (cheaper) alternative for those who do not need the standards of the V.4. -
Thank you for the information Jamal33 when I have time I will have to put the orther screen in and give it a try.
-
Did soup4you2 ever comment on the quality of the V.0 panel ?.
I am debating on ordering that screen as well vs the whole western union thing along with the fact that if i had issues i would have to ship it back or live with it .. Stuck pixels for me are something i could never live with for even a second ..
I wish there were some US vendors with the V4 but oh well might have to settle for second best..
Brightness and the rest of the specs are very similar to the V4 aside from the color gamut and i am not doing any photo editing etc so that wont bother me ..
If i could find a used Hannstar screen that would even be fine since i have owned a couple already and aside from not being the brightest they were pretty nice overall especially the contrast(inky blacks).. -
Well i will know for sure in about a week and 1/2. waiting on dell still for the XPS 17.
Have a SSD on the way as well as 8 more gigs of ram for it.
I'm from Detroit. so i will let you all know.

Thanks Zintac .. I am out in Auburn Hills ..

Hello all. Can anyone tell me the manufacturer of my laptop screen? It is listed in device manager/monitor as a CMO1718????
Thanks -
CMO is ChiMei

There is a member I think called anodize who switched from AU Optronics B173HW01 V.4 to the AU Optronics B173HW01 V.0 screen. He thought the V.0 screen was better as the colours to him looked more natural.
I was tempted to buy a V.4 & V.0 and decide myself, but in the end just ordered the V.4. -

jamal33 said: ↑try this for a stuck pixel:
1. Turn your LCD monitor on
2. Set your desktop background color to black
3. Locate a rounded slightly pointed object (a PDA stylus or small marker cap works well)
4. Using the rounded slightly pointed object, gently tap the stuck pixel ( use a cloth in between so you won't scratch the screen.
5. Gradually increase the pressure used on each tap until the pixel corrects itself
or you might need to use a finger nail through a cloth for more accuracy. give it some lovin and massage the stuck pixel area ;-)Click to expand... -
Dam Guys! After reading this thread for an hour plus. i gotta say, you guys really got me all worked up for the 1080p screen. The best part is, I have not even ordered the L701x yet. 3 more days to go wohoo...

My box of AUO B173WH01 v.4 displays arrived today and one immediately went into my personal L701X. MMMmmmmmMMMmmmm.... just like my Studio 1747 - WONDERFUL FHD!
I am testing the screen now in Adobe CS5 and so far it looks excellent with no dead pixels.

I'm considering purchasing an XPS 17 (UK version) which has a: 17.3" HD+ WLED True-Life (1600x900) with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera, which I want to obviously swap out for a 1080 screen.
My question is, if the original screen is WLED, does is have/need an inverter? (This is probably a stupid question but I thought WLED didn't need and inverter?)
The reason I ask is the: AU OPTRONICS B173HW01 V.4 17.3 DEL which I'm considering requires one and it seems to be a popular choice.
Otherwise maybe I should stick with: DELL XPS 17 L701 17.3 LAPTOP SCREEN (LP173WF1) as the 1080 WLED option, which means I don't need to buy and inverter. -

Hi,
I have been in touch with that company in your link and I can tell you that the AUO B173WH01 V4 screen does NOT have an inverter.
Also, If you contact them, I guarantee they will tell you that they have none of this screen in stock and that they can mail you a compatible screen instead. -

Alchemist53, if you are really after this screen, drop me an email on [email protected].
I might be able to help you out!!! -
I've been away from the LCD game for a while now, but I had both b173hw01 V0(72%) and V4(90%) and much preferred the V0. So if you're sensitive to over-saturated color, and want more neutral color, then look for the V0.
