Updated: After turning off PowerMizer and sliding the driver behavior level for maximum performance, I retested and scored 4186 3DMarks under XP. MUCH better!

I ran 3dMark06 against the XP installation on my XPS1530, and the results are not good. Something is wrong.

    Config: XPS1350, T7500 2.2Ghz CPU, 256MB GeForce 8600, 1650x1050 resolution screen.

    XP score: 1055 3DMarks.

In a word, yuck. This is with the ForceWare 169.32 drivers and modded INF file. Something, as they say, is rotten in Denmark.

I will run the Vista version in a few moments.

Wow - that's goofy. I don't understand why - except that I wonder if the original resolution has an effect on scores... even though the scores are calculated by a set resolution. My device manager shows the driver to be 7.15.11.5669 - 156.69 forceware.

(ps - did you find a pcmark05 score?)

I've spent a couple of hours just trying to get the XP Sata driver. I want to install it in the beginning of the XP install with F6.

Can someone email me the driver? I'm so frustrated that I can't get it. All I get is the software that wants to install it.

Edit: Never mind...finally figured it out.

It's the same motherboard, so it should not be an issue. This has the basic SATA drivers in it. The AHCI driver that I mentioned in Step 2 is the primary driver after you install the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility.

The BIOS drivers can be found on the DELL website:
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=234663

Hello people, I'm new here and i'm looking for someone that may tell me how to solve a little problem with my m1530... Well i was trying some dvd with my brother the other day and for some reason dell's media direct couldnt read it even tho the dvd drive was region free (from factory). Well while i was distracted he changed the region to that of the dvd and now its stuck in region 1... i know i can change it 4 more times but hell... it was region free... and other players (not dell's) could actually play any region. I've been looking everywhere and i couldnt find a solution (the most famous dvd firmware sites dont have it) and i also tried dell's support but they were even less helpful. Is there a way to restore the firmware or has any of you been able to extract it? all i need is the default firmware that was region free. Please help, this little mistake has taken a big part of the m1530 magic... :( The drive is a TEAC dv-w28slc (its the default that comes with any m1530). Someone earlier mentioned the firmware version but i need some serious help. Thanks in advance.

In kanadian's list it seems to be a duplicate link for the webcam.
I have only three errors left in device manager "other devices" "Base system device" x3

I would make a "driver download" folder and save the drivers there. Then choose RUN after they have downloaded and they should install automatically.
I find it easier to rename them as well so that you know what they are if you ever need them again.

Im still looking for a Card Reader driver to work w/ my XP Pro 1530. Anybody?

MD must be installed prior to windows XP.
Insert the MD CD, follow screen instructions....
Insert Windows XP CD, restart and install.
Install at least the Audio/Video drivers.
Insert MD CD and install the software.
MD button should work fine now.

Good evening to all, I've been having problems updating my m1530's drivers lately. Here's what I did:
I uninstalled my nividia drivers and did a clean install of the forceware 163.75 for vista 32bit with the modded inf from laptopvideo2go. Somehow, when I go to device manager, it says I have the 156.69 even though i just updated the driver and restarted my laptop several times... WTH!! I've been trying to fix this for hours now, I'm in desperate need of help.

By the way, i have the 8600m GT DDR3.

nvm fixed my issue but now i have another one:
when I update from device manager and Browse manually for devices I get this error when I try upgrading to 169.28, 169.25 or even 169.09:

"windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device"

Stinstoic, in another thread you mentioned that the latest touchpad driver is the 10.1.8.0 version. The problem I had with this driver that made me not want to use it is the inability to make pressing both touchpad mouse buttons result in a middle click.

You have mixed up threads. The latest driver for M1530 (with Alps TouchPad) from Dell is 7.1.102.7, A00 and the latest driver for M1330 (with Synaptics TouchPad) from Synaptics is 10.1.8.0.

Dell has customized their driver & utility to include midde-click functionality when both touchpad buttons are pressed but that functionality is not available in the original Synaptics version. I have provided the Synaptics version for M1330 as it is more stable.

The less said about the Alps TouchPad and their pathetic features, no matter which driver, the better. Another reason to choose M1330 if you are deciding between M1330 and M1530.

Ive just installed XP on my M1530 and my system is running perfectly. Laptop is so much more faster than vista. I used the drivers from page 17 on this thread on arcanepaladin's post. The graphics, fingerprint, webcam, hdmi, audio, touchpad are all running perfectly.

I havent tested the bluetooth and Dell Media direct yet.

Here's a question- I'll be getting my M1530 next week, and I want to dual boot it with XP and Vista, and also have Media Direct functional. I intend to follow the step by step guide for a clean install of Vista and MD as found on this forum. During that process, if I partition the HD 3 ways between MD, Vista, and a 3rd partition, can I install XP as listed in the XP thread on that partition and after using the dual boot program expect XP, Vista, and MD to all function as designed?

I have never used the Alps touchpad driver. I had a version of Synaptics that had the middle-click functionality, but then installed the Synaptics 10.1.8.0 and this one does not have the functionality.

Edit : Oh, I see what you mean. I didn't know that you had a dedicated thread for each notebook. Sorry bout that.

It's not only for performance, but stability. Almost all video game publisher recommended the latest driver because of stability issues with older driver.

NOt that it helps much that M$ screws up video driver for Vista...

I think I also installed the chipset drivers first, video and audio but got no errors. You might want to try installing audio first then the chipset drivers.

Just wanted to let you all know that I downloaded the Alps Touchpad drivers for Windows Vista from the Dell website and, after using the Update Driver function in the Device Manager, they work better than the drivers I suggested in my thread.

The filename on the Dell website is R166314.exe

    HAVE FUN!

I have installed XP PRO SP2 from an CD I got with my Dell desktop a year or so ago. I downloaded and installed all the updates from windows and after that I tried to install several different drivers for the Nvidia graphics card but not one will work.

Would it be better to install all drivers before I do any windows updates?

Any help would be great. :)

The working dell ones are listed on page 17 of this thread.

I have a issue with the touchpad... I have tried both the Dell drivers as well as the latest straight from Synaptics. With both the normal functions work: navigation and buttons. What does not work is the ability to scroll via the touchpad or even get to the settings for it. If I load the dell drivers I can open the dell page and there are 4 setup sections. The only one that will open is the first one which is just the basic settings.

Does anyone else have this working and how? Thanks for any ideas,

Hello. I think first you should download all the drivers needed for XP and save them on a CD or USB drive, then instead of trying to solve your audio problem or any other problem I think you should start with a clean install of XP. I would start by installing the Chipset Drivers, Audio and then Video and so on.....
