nevermind, i finally find the right drivers and got them installed.
(I'm having some trouble with my wireless driver on XP. Right now I am dual-booting Vista and XP. Everything works fine on Vista, and on XP everything works ok except the wireless and bluetooth. In my device manager I have two devices with (!): "BCM2045" and "Network Controller". I have the Dell 1490 802.11a/g wireless card and the 355 bluetooth module. I have tried a bunch of different drivers but can't get it to work. Help?)

I know there was some question many posts back about the HDMI out under XP. The TiVo missed Survivor last night so I went on the CBS website and plugged the M1530 into the plasma via the HDMI port, worked great!

What audio driver is everyone using for the XP install on the M1530 these days? The last one I had worked, but when I started using iTunes this week, I noticed the sound SUCKED!
I just got SigmaTel's 5.10.0.5515, dated 5/10/07. For the M1330:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235761
Seems to work much better for me, what are you guys using? -
Would someone be willing to writeup a definitive guide to a xp install on m1530? We have lots of information in these 31 pages - it would be great ot make a sticky in the forum!!
-
A link to it is included in the Top 10 Questions about the M1530 in my Sig. -

Well, I just finished reading this entire thread, and all I can say is that practically every possible problem you might encounter is mentioned here (most are successfully resolved). I will be getting my XPS M1530 next month, and I plan on having a Vista64(to use the 4GB of ram)/XP Pro32bits(for compatibility and maby performance...have to see how it compares to vista 64)/Ubuntu64(still have to see about driver compatibility for that...will use 32 bit linux if 64 isn't possible) Tri-boot system....was thinking about putting Leopard on it as well, but that would be overkill.
Sad thing is that Dell only "officially" provides drivers for the only OS i will not be using, heh (except XP64...but noone uses that anyway)
Also I really wanted to thank these people for all the help provided:
sinstoic for starting the topic and posting regularly updated links to the Vista32 drivers.
kanadianiceman for his XP32 install links and all the tips
ubnyan for the diver compilation that made so many peoples life so much easier
arcanepaladin for another set of XP32 links, these with reportedly better performance then the previous driver postings
SoonerDave for the great sound-fixing tip, that resolved the issues posted by several, several people
there must be more ppl I'm forgetting, but anyway..thanks a lot. -
Which games are you playing with your M1530s???
-
So has any one even bothered installing XP64-bit on their m1530's? I use it on my desktop and I am a firm believer in it.
-
Thanks to this treat, i am able to get my M1530 up and running on XP, .. wonder when will dell realize vista didn't kill XP yet ..zzz and provide us with support for XP
-
For God's sake keep these threads clear
! There's like 300 replies in this thread with thanks and complains, link fixings not updated to first post. I'm also going to buy this lappy and install XP32 over vista but it won't succeed if instructions are completely unreadable ! No use go blame me for kicking your butt to face the truth.

I've been reading NR for a while already, in fact I decided to get an XPS M1530 after hanging around and reading stuff here. It arrived 2 weeks ago. I began my search on how to install XP even before I ordered it. For the last two weeks I've been trying to do so... last night, finally I was able to do it. Here is the steps that held me back from doing it right.
1.- With the drivers provided here (mediafire link), burnt to a CD, go into the BIOS (F2 when booting) and disable the Cache Flash function (you might need unlock the security).
2.- Enable the ATA, as already mentioned.
After than just go head and:
3.- Boot from Win XP CD and do the installation. I actually used this guide to make it double booting (just in case it didn't work, at least I'd have Vista "as a temporary backup".
3.- Install the drivers one by one, start with the chipset one.
I had to look for a couple of drivers by myself:
- Wireless card (Intel) 4965AN .
- I encountered the same problem someone already mentioned here, not being able to bring the screen out of standby mode. So I downloaded this driver.
- For the bluetooth these two. Install them in that order. First this one. Then this one.
Now it all looks good to me.I'll be posting a vid in youtube to show it works. Thank you all!

First, thanks for maintaining this page, it's really usefull.
I'm thinking about installing WinXP on my M1530.
Are all the drivers listed in the first page compatible with WinXP ? Which are, which are not ?
I think it would be a good idea to start the same thread with XP drivers, or to update the first page with the specific links. -
I just installed XP with SP2 on my M1530, and ive got everything working, except the USB inputs wont work, nor will the wireless...it detects my wireless network, i log on to the network, it says Aquiring signal, etc, then says shows the little yellow triangle with the "!" in the center of it, on the wireless icon in the task bar.
am i installing incorrect drivers? i really need to get the USB working first, i cant stand using the touchpad!!! lol
thanks for any help, this looks like a very helpful forum -
I'm sure I'll get flamed, but that is how I see it. -
Just the other day I received an infected file. Symantec said it was for 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP and 2003. Just for fun I disabled AV and launched the file. No infection, a full scan found the infected file but nothing else.
I know lots of people have issues with Vista. My system works well and is plenty fast. -
I installed those drivers and the ones I included earlier and I've got no problem with the USB ports at all. Everything seems to be working wonderfully and way faster than in Vista.
Good luck partner.
The_Forastero -
Are all these drivers up-to-date?
I'm planning a reinstall of Vista. Is this the correct order of installing everything?
- Vista
- Vista SP1
- Drivers
- Anti Virus
What about Windows Update? -
Hello,
After couple days, with help of this forum, I have loaded a dual boot XP pro SP2 and Vista Ultimate (not home utltimate) SP1 successfully.
I have the following remaining issues:
1) I installed the above OS's uing ATA. I am not able to switch the setup's to AHCI. I have folloed the two described methods from this forum with no success. The one in where you update the ATA drivers to SATA doesn't loaded at is says it already has the best setup. The other one has a incorrect setup file linking to incorrect file location.
2) The WI-FI drivers have problems:
with XP I can not connect to my N router (D-LINK DIR-625), and is asking for certificates when accessing N router -- WHY?? . It also asks for a device parameter???. ALso, I read about some restrictions using WEP with N. Very strange indeed. Dell tech support has no clues???
with Vista it will not use the N specification. I get max of 54Mbps (G only).
Dell has no clue on these issues.
After pushing DELL, they did provide me a list of XP driver list for the M1530. It didn't address the SATA Matrix drivers and switch.
Talking to DELL I hear constantly "DELL doesn't support dual boot, No support for XP, etc." WIth ASUS these issues never come up.
Everything else is working very nice.
If anyone can help me, let me know.
Also, I have 3GB setup -- worth to make it 4GB RAM setup???
Thank you for all your help.

Forastero, does disabling Cache Flash and enabling ATA result in slower HDD performance ?
vista sucks, that is fact. Nothing good, more than bad. Many games won't ever work. -
Talking about games, I'm not that much of a gamer, all I've installed and played so far is GTA St. Andreas, and the Orange Box's games. Overall I'm highly satisfied with the performance.

Hey I installed XP Pro, followed by SP2 but my USB ports aren't being recognized as 2.0 is there an additional driver to make it recognize that they are 2.0? Thanks
-
-
Yeah.... That is why MS is moving up the launch of 7.
-
Yeah because everyone knows that internet rumors and misquoted Bill Gates = truth
This thread is ridiculously offtopic - it should just be stickied and locked -
Hey, can anyone post this XP Drivers Pack again? The problem is mediafire doesn't work for me, and even if that start downloading it very slow.
-
I have installed XP and have three devices with no drivers.
SM Bus Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Can anyone tell me which drivers to use for these? Thanks -
May as well sell your XPS and stay with your older XP OS desktops/laptops that work with XP.
I have NO problems whatsoever running VISTA with my XPS notebook. NONE!
There... I said it... let the flaming begin! -
Well I've encountered countless number of issues and programs crashing so thats why im switching.... I tried vista and it failed.

jack53 - Feel free to leave this thread. I'm a new user on here looking for information and apart from your opinionated banter, this thread has been a great resource. People will have their own reasons for wanting to stay with XP, and it's not your place to force your opinions on them - in this case, opinions backed by poor arguments.
Thanks. -
There are more than one side to any issues or problems...
I've been around a long time... since 2006. I'm not going anywhere. -
With that aside, I have a question for the rest of you.
When installing the Intel Matrix Storage Controller driver (for the SATA mode to work in XP), there seems to be 3 distinct ways of doing it.
1. Slipstream the driver and create a new XP boot disk.
2. Put driver on floppy (+USB floppy drive) and press F6 to load before XP install. (Do you have to disable SATA mode in BIOS first to do this?)
3. Disable SATA mode in BIOS, install XP normally, then install driver, and re-enable SATA mode in BIOS.
Now clearly the third option is the simplest, but I read a few posts suggesting that you lose some SATA/ACPI functionality if you go for the easy option, and the best way is to install the driver before XP installation.
Is that true? If so, that leads me to my next question, is the F6 method just as good as the slipstream method? For me personally that's easier (I have a USB floppy drive).
Any thoughts much appreciated. -
I don't care how long you've been here, and neither does anyone else. We care about how helpful you have been, not how long you've been here.
Please, let's tone down the arguments before we have to start deleting posts. -

The guy simply asked where he could download drivers and you went on about his "problems" were because he was using XP and how he needs to switch to Vista.
And the XPS being built for Vista so it cant run XP, or any other OS for that matter, is flat out wrong. -
He wanted help with his XP installation and you told him to get vista instead, thats no help at all. Its like telling someone who wants advice with buying a gaming notebook to get a desktop because its cheaper and so...
@topic
had the same probs with installing XP on a toshiba satellite and in the end I slipstreamed the matrix driver by creating a new XP installation disc with NLite! Sounds difficult but is very easy and was the simplest solutions since I had no floppy anywhere!
(btw thanks to alot of other problems with numerous drivers I ended up installing vista...)
-
Thanks guys I figured out the problem and I have WINDOWS XP running without ANY problems while VISTA gave me many. Anyway...
UDI
Although option 3 seems the simplest, it is not the least problematic. I ran into a few issues doing it this way and ended up slipstreaming it which proved to be very simple.
If you have a floppy drive then that is even simpler and is definately you're number one option.
Let me know if you need any more help figuring it out. -
Hi friends can you help me to installation my notebook m1530 with windows XP, I already install everything except network controler and BCM2045, I don't know what is that and how can I download that? thank's
-
As stated in my previous post (page 33), still like to have a working method on installing on existing dual boot XP and VISTA SATA drivers wilh all capabilities ( moving from ATA to AHCI).
I tried two methods described in this forum, and I could not make it work.
Thank you, -
Wouterkcs
Do you have an XP install disc? If so, download nlite and the necessary drivers (available on pg 17. or pg 1. i beleive) and make a copy of xp with the drivers on it using nlite. This method should work. PM if you've tried this and cant get it.
Nanang
BCM is bluetooth
The drivers that worked for me for bluetooth and network were from here:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor...hread.id=253132&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
see if those will work.
Good luck -
I'm in the middle of compiling my own 1530 XP driver pack, which is a combination of ubnyan's, arcanepaladin's, and the_forestero's as well as a couple of my own because some of the drivers had slightly newer versions available (eg. LAN) since then. There's also basically a couple that one person had and the other didn't (+ vice versa) and I've got about 3 days (hopefully!) till my 1530 shows up so I've got some time to kill.
I'll post back on how it goes, and if I get a 100% problem free combination working I'll zip and upload the lot for future users.
No doubt I'll have a little messing around to do like everyone else here, but I've got a decent arsenal of drivers now - and the fact that a couple people here have it working flawlessly is a big incentive!
Edit - just a quick question, when you either slipstream the AHCI driver, or use the floppy+F6 method, you leave AHCI and Flash Cache mode switched ON in the BIOS hey (is that default)? I'm pretty sure but just want to triple check that one. -
yeah you leave it on and yeah it is default but you can always do a quick check in your bios
-
spizzak,
I have used nlite, still that is for a new install.
I need to upgrade from an excisting XP and VISA setup.
Or, I am missing something here..
Thank you for replying...

what setup do you have now and what do you want -
spizzak,
I have a dual boot XP and Vista already setup with ATA drivers. In this forum they documented two methods on how to convert the ATA drivers to SATA. I tired both and neither worked. Anyone can provide me with a working method.
I have en email I got from DELL for XP drivers for the M1530. That is what I used to load XP.
Other remaining issue is how to use the AGN wireless drivers with N router.
Thanks -
ive put Windows XP on my m1530 and all is well but, no matter which graphics driver i use (for the Nvidia 8600m GT) my images all look choppy. ive tried, 169.01, 169.09, 169.21 forceware, 175.16 geforceware, R158222, R167849, and R173730 right from Dell.
which graphics driver is everyone else using that seems to work the best?
gaming looks and works great but basic images look like junk.
