wow.. nice spec

Have a question.
Is there any way possible to upgrade to the Intel Wireless-N adapter on the computer. Cause I was going to call and change the order but they actually had already sent the laptop before they were supposed to and I wanted to upgrade. Should I maybe call tech or customer support about that to see if they will upgrade for free? I already have the intel b/g card installed! -
-
Dammit jsmaag, I just ordered exactly the same spec, but the one thing I couldn't get for whatever reason was the Alpine white high gloss casing. I know that sounds a little superficial, but if I'm forking out 2g for this, I'd like it to be exactly how I want it. It's weird, one day they had the option, and the next day they didn't. Hell I'd sacrifice some of the power for a white case....
-
I ordering a 1530 maxed out I can't make my mind up on the color. Has any one seen the White 1530 up close? Blue is my second choice in color. I'm deployed in Iraq for the Dept. of Defense so I hope the Dell makes the flight without issues. I have heard good things about this model along with negative issues hope I made the correct choice buying a Dell 1530.

For EXISTING USERS-
"have u people tried running games over stock config. i.e. wihout driver upgradation? And are those running well? What's the graphics card driver version u people got with dell?" -
My XPS is on ordered scheduled to be shipped on the 18th.
Seems like a long time? Maybe it is because my Business Dell Rep specifically requested a LG screen over a samsung screen?
What is the # for a LG and the Samsung?
How do I tell when I get it? System Info? -
What date did they give you to ship? I'm curious as I order mine, see sig, Jan 1st and they told me the ship date was the 18th. Seems kinda long to me? -
My computer is finally on a plane to the USA!
-
^^ congrats
Guys I am having two questions here -
1. Is there anything different in the DELL RECOMMENDED power plan on the M1530 that I should know ? Coz I did a full reinstall a few days back and I don't have that option now in the power plans menu...
2. I am having issues with sleep/hibernate . Neither of them works properly . Sometimes the system won't sleep/hibernate and I have to switch it off manuall by pressing and holding the power key...and on other occasions it wont resume from sleep/hibernate. I am using the latest laptoptogo drivers for vista... any ideas ? -
-
Well, my 1530 arrived today and I can say that it is PERFECT. The build quality is great, the screen is bright and clear, and everything is working as it should!

For those of you who have already received your M1530s, 2 questions- I ordered it with a Belkin sleeve, but does it also come with some sort of XPS case? Also, does it come with an express card slot remote control, or was that one of the extra options I had to order?

It would be nice if more people would put in their Avatar what country they're from too. -

Hey I created an account just so I could ask this.
I've just put through my order for my XPS 1530 yesterday, I got 3Gb and was going to make the upgrade to 4Gb myself and wanted to double check I'm buying the right thing...
http://www.elive.co.nz/apacer-2gb-sodimm-memory-p0840.php
You guys in the US are so lucky to be able to get your RAM so cheap!
Although I did notice that it's more expensive for you to upgrade your RAM through Dell than it is for us...
3Gb - 4Gb in NZD is $150 at www.dell.co.nz
3Gb - 4Gb in USD is $200 at www.dell.com with exchange rate you're paying quite a lot more if you pay through Dell.
Oh well, not that it matters or anything I just thought it was interesting. Kind of. -
Just remember that you need Windows 32-bit in order to take advantage of the 4GB of memory, otherwise it will just be leftover space. I'm sure Windows 7 will make use of it, though.
-
Ridley23, you mean you need Windows 64-bit in order to take advantage of the 4GB of memory.
-
LOL! A NEWBIE showing up a Notebook Evangelist!
-
So is the RAM here http://www.elive.co.nz/apacer-2gb-sodimm-memory-p0840.php the RAM I need or not?
I'm aware that not all 4Gb will be used by my system but I'm also aware that it will recognise some of it and that I'll have exactly what I need once I'm ready to go to 64bit later on in the year(s)
Thanks for your help.
Btw Windows 7??... What? -
I think Windows 7 refers to the newest Windows OS coming in 2009. I think that's when Microsoft wants to get it out to the public.
-
Ahhh OK. For some reason I've never heard about that.
No help for my main question then? -
The URL up above is a deadlink. I imagine you will be ok with 4gb of ram until you upgrade to 64bit OS but I'm not 100% sure. I think I read on the forums that one person had a problem with his computer not booting up or something, because he had 4gb of ram in his laptop. Again, I'm not 100% sure so keep asking.
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing

OK I Fixed the link. Since this is a new page I'll put it here too to make it easier.
http://www.elive.co.nz/apacer-2gb-sodimm-memory-p0840.php
Hopfully it works.
I've read in a few places that 32bit systems can use some of the 4Gb Ram, so if you have 4Gb it shows up as around 3.5gb or 3.2gb, 3.4gb etc depending on how lucky you get with it. And so there is a memory advantage with having 4Gb over 3Gb. How accurate is this? I read it someone in a forum explaining 64bit OS -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3007317&postcount=12
And you can get 2 GB cheaper my thinks. Never heard of that brand you linked?
http://www.shopbot.ca/default.asp?kw=pc25300+sodimm&position=search -
No that's the cheapest you can get that type of RAM in New Zealand if you don't have crazy discounts, steal it, get it for free, maybe buy it 2nd hand or order it from overseas.
But thanks. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
Just lazy I guess...
Yeah! It would be NICE if it was REQUIRED to at least put in what country they're from... it not like someone is gonna find them! -
Well I had to post because I just received my "refurbished" XPS M1530 (see signature for details) a week ago and have been running it ever since. Can't seem to find anything wrong with it.......no scratches or dents. All in all I am pretty pleased with my purchase thus far and I just wanted to thank all the members of the forum who posted as it's been very helpful for me to learn about the various laptops etc...not to mention the 15% off Dell Outlet coupon that I used for my system!
Only thing I didnt get was Bluetooth but I purchased the internal card form Dell (refurbished as well) for $11. Done some reading on this forum and I think it should be pretty easy to install. -
yeah this thing smokes my desktop ..very fast esp after flamenko format and tweaks..turns on like a light switch lol!!!
-
Is it just on my 1530 that the FAN speed up very quickly? , It can go from dead silence to kinda loud when just surfing the web, is this normal? (The temps of the CPU is 30-45 when surfing the web , so the temp should not be a problem) , But are ur fans also doing this? or are my lappy defect?
-
Mine comes on every now and then when surfing etc...but not long ..that is until ya fire up a game !!!!
-
My fan is on currently right now. I don't know why though since I only have one application open, which is Firefox. This is odd. The fan is not exceptionally loud, but I can definitely hear it.
-
Any reason to believe the the magnet in the sleeve could potentially damage the HDD or LCD? Every time I remove my 1530 from the bag, the flap with the magent tends to stick quite aggresively to the notebook.
Thanks -
I think Dell has done their research that the magnet is not powerful enough to penetrate through and affect the hard drive. With that said, I would still watch out.

Is it me or are they more people on here complaining about dell products, and yet people keep buying them.
I was going to buy a M1530 as I have owned a dell before, but this issue with the screen grainy, and electric shocks, and whining noise of the processor or something, I dont know if it is worth the stress if I get a dodgy screen.
Is it me or does the M1530 suck, there seems to be a lot of problems with this machine.
Dont get me wrong, my mate at work has had his xps 1710 and he loves it, but it seems dell is just skimping on products.
It looks the bomb though, nicest machine out there, but have not heard to many complaints about the FZ blu-ray series of sony.
Should I put mu hopes in dell, after 1000's of people on this forum do not have really one good thing to say about the M1530, or try the FZ38M and hope,, hope it is made as well as the dell, construction wise anyway.
Thanks for listning, and what do you think about the 1530 honestly? -
Honest opinion about 1530:
Loud when playing, a bit noisy when in high performance mode and playing some 720p movies, not noisy: when in balanced mode and surfing/chatting.
Screen is amazing (got an LG 1440 x 900), but is beeping when turning down brightness.. Kinda... annoying when the rest of the comp is quiet and the screen is beeping (sounds almost like CPU-whine but not as high).
The Hdd is sometimes loading when not doing anything, probably VISTA....
I like the design of the 1530 and it have a great build quality, but beeping from screen and loud fans when playing makes me call dell tomorrow.. I'll return it...
But I would probably return any laptop with 8600 as the fan probably goes loud every laptop with that graphics... So if it's not a problem (loud fan that is) GO FOR IT !! -
Now, I love mine and it works flawlessly. Read my personal review on it here:
http://corvettec3.com/dellXPSm1530review.htm -
I just got the XPS 1530 and I have a couple questions. First, has anyone noticed this computer heating up quite a bit? Mine doesn't seem to cool down while I am using it.
Second, this came with the DVD burned and the Roxio software. Can I burn a movie using Roxio's software, or do I have to purchase some other third party software? If I need additional software, any recommendations?
Thank you! -
Sorry is it just one screen that people are having problems with (1050)
Or is it all the option including the 800 and 900 option
Thanks, thats the only thing im worried about.
I see your point about dell being far more popular, so more complaint ,might come in, what have i got to lose, I can always ask for my money back right.
