seems to be the wsxga+ (1680x1050) screen that has the problems, its the screen I haave and its definately grainy when looking at naything white![]()
-
I'm picky as I do a lot of photo editing and photoshop and the 900 has been more than good enough. Very happy with it.
Yep, what you got to lose. If there is a problem, they come to your door the next day to fix it... can't beat that. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
You cannot read into all these complaints too much. People love to gripe on the internet, me included. And you have a 30 day return it window so if you don't like it, send it back. But I cannot find a notebook as thin, stylish and full featured as a 1530. Give it a try -
Well if it is only the 1050 screen will just get the 900, as it saves me money and also saves me stress, and like i said who is going to tell the diff between 900 and 1050, you would have to be an expert.
I love the machine, debating between red and blue, not sure what colour.
But hey I got until the 18th to decidem and maybe the 1050 screen problem will have worked its way through dell and they will not stock them anymore as promised via live chat. -
Well I ordered my XPS 1530 on Friday night - I went for a T7500 with 2GB RAM and 250GB 5400 HDD. Five minutes after I placed my order they were offering it with 3GB and 320GB for more or less the same price. I couldn't phone to cancel because it was the weekend, but I emailed customer support and by Sunday my order was cancelled and I placed a new one. Anyway, the thing was built on Monday, shipped on Tuesday and my wife has just texted me to say it has arrived.
Full spec:
T7500 2.2GHZ
3GB RAM
320GB 5400rpm HDD
Screen is 1280x800 - would have perhaps liked the next size up, but the only models offering it were over £250 more (you had to have blue-ray as well).
Midnight Blue Case - not sure yet whether I will like this colour. will have to wait and see. I would have liked the red, but you couldn't choose the higher capacity HDD with product red.
6 cell battery - I deliberated for a while over 6 or 9 cell, but chose 6 so it wouldn't stick out.
Anyway, its my first ever laptop and should hopefully be able to match my current desktop which has an E6400 core 2 duo processor. I'm hoping to run digital audio workstation software on it, so will try to post back in the future with my impressions of how good it is for this use.
Can't wait to get home and try it out... -
You'll love this notebook. -

-
I have learned alot from this thread. I am about to pull the trigger on one of these. Does anybody have an idea of when the Penryn chips will be in the 1530??
-
-
bought it on the 20th feb.
Spec as follow:
- Base Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB, 2MB cache)
- 2.0 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
- Screen: Samsung 1280x854
- 250GB SATA HDD
- 6 Cell-battery
everything else as default.
got it for AU$1499
Also today I just got my screen replaced to LG Phillipe 1440x900 resolutionfrom my previous Samsung 1280res. Took them 3 tried to finally get the PART # correct.
So I'm pretty happy with the new LG screen so far ^^ -
I havent got my M1530 yet been waiting for the stupid penryn to be available in it. Anyway ive noticed they recently added the option to get the M1530 without the finger print scanner.
I am not sure if its other dell models or just other manufactures in general but i know some of those finger scanners double as a scroll wheel inside windows as well. Does this hold true with the M1530?
And secondly if you plug an external monitor into the m1530 is it possible to use a dual monitor setup between the lcd on the M5130 and the external monitor? Looking to use the ext monitor strickly for winamp and everything else on the laptops monitor. -
-
-
It is pssible to have a dual monitor setup, not an issue. Can do it via the HDMI to hi def tv or can do it using regular monitor port. -
what about the finger scanner working as a scroll wheel as well?

In addition to the 15% EPP question, I want to ask the m1530 owners what's the quality of the 2MP webcam on this laptop. I tried the one on the MacBook Pro and it looks really clear and very responsive. Anyone got any sample pictures taken with the m1530 webcam?

lol Pretty much. It's for school and leisure. I'm going to school for Game Design and Programming so I thought this would suit quite nicely.
-
-
Very cool configuration!
. Good luck with the new addition
-
Thanks guys, I'm very excited and I'm glad I stumbled upon this site, it helped secure my decision for the Dell and for the 1530 so thank you all very much.
-
This laptop could do with its actual own forum as opposed to just a thread.
anyway, i just ordered mine
T7500 2.2Ghz C2D (4mb L2)
3GB RAM
250GB 5400rpm
8600GT 256Mb
tuxedo black 1680x1050 screen
Wireless N
9 Cell battery
4 years Next Day on-site warrenty
it will be replacing a desktop comp with an XP3200 CPU and 9800pro 128mb which scores 635 in 3dmark06, so cant wait for the improvement (in the 4000 region on m1530?)
one question - for those with the high res monitors, how are games when you down res to something like 1280x800? screen shots or photos would be appreciated. -
Yep me too >
I just bought a XPS M1530
T8300 2.4GHZ penryn
250 HDD
2 GB RAM
1440x900 screen - As did not want any messing with the 1050 troubles and just wanted to enjoy.
Midnight blue
8600 GT 256 MB
DVD-RW- Was going to go for Blu-ray but 1 you will never get through a blu-ray movie, not even on a 9cell. Will go for stand-alone in the near future when sony gets there head out of there ass and decides which 1.0 2.0 version and maybe there will be a 3.0, will it ever stop (bring back HD)
9 CELL BATTERY.
All for £769.00= 1500.00ish US
Cant wait. -
are you in the uk, or canada?
-
If you are talking to me? im in the UK, But from canada.
-
Shipped 3/08 pretty damm quick
In canada EPP is 15%, as for the mystery coupon i put my email address in the dell.ca newsetter they send me offers every week about any discounts on dell products.
heres the link, this only works in canada

I truely hope I dont have any of the screen problems people seem to be getting with 1680x1050 screens. I do alot of CG and CAD work so need the real estate and precision a high res monitor offers.
I have an acer already with 1280x800 and its so restrictive for things like 3DS max and Photoshop, all the toolbars are enormous.
Mine is from dell outlet so hopefully the system was already built for someone who cancelled their order mid way through (as I have had to do 3 times now!) and is hopefully brand spankin new, and delivered by friday 14 march if all goes well
The 4 years warrenty gives some piece of mind, as i tend to cycle my main computer every 4 years, so that will cover the parts for at least its lifespan -
-
Kinda like a Rolex, it tells the same time as a Timex, but it says "Look at ME"! is the only selling point of Blu-ray. -
Jack 53 loved the pics and review, nice job.
I cant wait, Im like homer at the brewery factory. -
-
can u use the finger scanner as a scroll wheel inside windows?
-
It is meant for fingerprint scanning and only that. -
-
hey guys, if theres anyone here with the 1530 in the UK, did you get the extras like headphones, sleeve, cloth and cd wallet thing?
i set up a thread here for your replies
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=227896 -
I got all that stuff you mentioned and more. Never had a notebook come with so much nice free stuff before. But then again, I paid enough for it too.
I can't understand why more folks don't at least say what country they are from in their AVATAR? It don't take much effort to do it and it's nice to know where people are from, especially with things like your thread. -
-
-
-
Has anyone installed Vista SP1 on their M1530 yet? Any issues with it? I've installed it already on my desktop, but I'm a little more cautious when it comes to my new laptop PC.

Got my XPS 1530 today, currently removing bloat to get it running sleek.
REALLY BAD: Bezel/Plastic surround at top of screen doesnt appear to fit, and is bulging like mad. I can see all the innards of the webcam, and mic array!
