Can it be snapped back in or something?
-
-
i have tried that to no avail, and i worry if i try any harder, i'll just snap then entire thing
-
I got my M1530 2 days ago and have been playing around with it non stop. I love this laptop. I dont have any major problems with it so far and Vista has been fairly good to me. Its blazing fast and Ive been playing Gears of War and Bioshock on it with almost high to max settings with no issues at all.
The only issue i had was trying to establish a connection with my Intel Wireless 4935 card to the internet through my Linksys WRT54GL router. I could only get a "Access: Local Only" connection but cannot go on the internet. I then updated the driver from Intels website (not the one at Dell), and so far no problems. *knock on wood* -
Alright guys finally ordered my 1530 should be here a few days after the 19th. My question is..
first let me start by saying im very computer savy i have built every system i have personally ever owned. This is my first laptop and first manufacture bought computer.
My question is does dell ship a windows vista cd and a drivers cd? or is it just a repair cd that installs the image again?.
I hate bloatware or anything undeeded. I would look to take the extra partition off and all i really need is vista disc and a drivers disc for whatever drivers vista is unable to get during the install. I wouldnt mind an image disc that was vista with the dell drivers on it but other then that i dont need any bloatware.
Or do the 1530's really just come with vista, and adobe acrobat reader? if thats all i will find on the hdd that is bloatware then i can surivive with that. although a repair partition which im sure is on there i wouldnt mind losing.
and lastly if it doesnt come with a vista disc can i just use say a disc i find online then just install it and enter the serial for my laptop and it will activate? -
You will be getting the Vista & Drivers CD. And you can reformat like I did with great results. It activated fine with no problems. You'll be happy! -
Ive never had to delete a partition with a vista cd before so im not even sure if the install lets you. If not i might have to dig up a ubuntu or xp cd to see if they can.
-
See my review to see exactly what I got in the Dell shipment.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one of those, but I can't seem to find the answers on some basic questions :
1) Dell wants $250 extra for a 200GB 7200 RPM HDD, can I just order the cheapest drive and replace it easily ?
2) Would I get any benefit in replacing the RAM with 800 Mhz RAM ? If I would do that, I could replace my gf's laptop memory and bring it to 2 GB with the Dell's one
3) How "overclockable" is the 8600 GT in this PC ? -
dj toodles:
I too hate bloat and have built all of my own systems, all with smart minded partitions, dedicated ones for virtual memory etc, to stop heavy fragmenting.
You'll be glad to know that nothing has changed in this regard, and you get a setup cd for vista with the dell, that is 'just vista'.. no drivers, no bloat, nothing.
Im currently doing the re-install of everything now. See this thread on removing bloat
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838
........ e-motion
1) buy the cheapest drive, replace with another, its very easy, even youtube clips of it
2) No you wouldnt, it would just clock itself down to 667mhz.. but if its the same price, no reason not too.
3) apparently VERY!, like almost double mem speeds thanks to gddr3. They do good, ive seen some oc's on here get in the 5000's for 06.. see this thread

I also just ordered a M1530 (red), with a t9300, 4gb, 8600gt. Ordered 3/11 ESD 3/18.
Unfortunately, I bought the laptop before I did much research and I went with the 1680x1050 screen. As I see in this forum, most recent orders are for the 1440x900 screen hoping for the LG panel. Has anyone gotten a 1050 recently, and how is/what is the screen you recieved? -
timewalk before i ordered the rep said they discountined the samsung panels awhile ago. my guess is after they stopping ordering them they had stock to get rid of. If you get 1 with grainy panel just complain they will get it right eventually
. i got the higher res panel as well and if its grainy i have no problems having dell replace it until its right.
BUt according to the rep i spoke with dell doesnt put those samsung panels in anymore. and it seemed around mid jan when people first reported that. so i would imagine the stock of the bad lcd panels has to be gone by now. -
djtoodles, or anyone that's used the m1530 before, would you mind posting a quick comment about the quality of the 2MP webcam that comes with the m1530 when you get it? How would you compare it to the ones found on macbook pros?
Thanks. -
I have no clue man. I really would have rathered no mic and webcam and saved the money. But maybe someone can take a shot with theirs and post a pic for you to see. If nobody does it by the time mine comes (hopefully late next week) i can do it for you.
-
I'm totally with you on this one man. I would rather have no mic and cam as well, but since it comes with it then might as well hope for a good one right?
-
yeah ..that and the fingerprint reader..it's ok but I would have liked to be able to choose if I wanted it or not...
-
From what I've read, the camera is pretty good with still shots, but sucks for video (framerate issues).
-
when you use the webcam with messenger it works great, i think the frame rate issue is only when you use the dell software. i love the fingerprint reader it makes logging in and web browsing easier, you can assign each fingerprint to open programs or log into things. the one thing that really annoys me is the ethernet jack on the side, i wish it was on the back, out of the way. i guess i will just continue using wireless even when i am at home.
-
-
Since this seems to be the place to get answers...anyone here know anything about 1530 with backlit LED screen...I keep reading in forums that it's coming, but when? I want to order but that's something I'd really like.
-
. i think they added the option about 2 weeks ago.
-
But it seemed the talk about the LED backlit stopped once they released the new lcd panels and it was nowhere to be seen. Maybe when they do the montevina refresh they will add it though. -
On a side note to fix that issue is there a way to get the bluetooth to work with a receiever anyway? because i know about a month in im going to get sick of that damn cord -
-
Also you could opt for that ExpressCard audio card - I noticed it has a 1/8" headphone jack.
-
Do they have a link that shows the different ExpressCards choices? -
I just noticed the $75 "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi® Xtreme Audio Sound Card" in the audio choices:
But I'd expect you could look around on Newegg.com for a TV tuner expresscard. -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...=0&Description=TV+tuner+expresscard&x=13&y=35 -
There you go.
This is really off-topic, but does anyone know how these L-shaped "expresscards" fit into the m1530's expresscard slot? Does everything except the narrow end stick out of the side? Because that would be a real pain. -
. anyway to make that into lamens terms at all or links? lol.
-
i have the xpress tv tuner card although i think i will hardly ever use it.
-
-
having second thoughts about the XPS 1530 that will arrive tomorrow
been reading a lot about 1530.
1) how can you recognize what screen you got?
2) any word on the crappy alps touchpad issue?
3) how bad are sigmatel drivers? been hearing about different sound issues
4) any thread about 64bit drivers?
5) anyone tried upgrading the CPU? -

looks good but you probably could have saved yourself a couple hundred more and got the T9300. 100mhz for the price seems competly overpriced
also i havent heard great things about the dell wireless n card. -
-
For your receiver/amp to get the Bluetooth stereo signal in you will need a Bluetooth stereo gateway (RIM, the makers of the Blackberry has a pretty neat one out). You can just search for that in Google and you'll find some other models.
As for Vista and Bluetooth, the default Microsoft bluetooth implementation (or "stack") leaves a lot to be desired, and as far as I know, is missing a lot of profiles such as the stereo bluetooth profile. However, manufacturers can modify that original stack to add such profiles, so it remains to be seen what's shipping on the Dell until I get it but I'm hopeful since you can order a Bluetooth stereo headet from them. If not, then I will have to find the proper instructions online to install the Toshiba stack, since that's the one that works on my Sony laptop. -
If you can keep me updated on it and if you get it working that would be great
i seem to only find a motorola one. Also from doing a little search in google it appears dell is a toshiba stack for the bluetooth.
But once you get yer 1530 and if you get it all working if you can send me a message or something with what stack you used that would be great.

After researching different notebook computer brands, I ordered the XPS M1530 on March 12, 2008 from Dell's member purchase program, because I'm an Almuni from one of the universities that is listed. The XPS M1530 will be replacing my Dell XPS 410 desktop which I may put on ebay or craigslist. I hope that my XPS M1530 arrives by the end of this week, because I have time decide if the M1530 is the right notebook computer for me before my schedule date for my Orthognathic surgery on my mandible that will align with my maxilla. If the M1530 is not the right notebook for me, I don't want to loose the return period due to my surgery.
Here are most important specs on my XPS M1530 I got for under $1700 (includes $812.96 discount, free shipping, and 8.25% sales tax in Texas).
- Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
- Tuxedo Black Casing
- 3GB DDR2 667MHz Ram
- 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD
- 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
- 200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
- 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive
- Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
- Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card
- 56 WHr 6-cell Primary Battery
- Finger Print Reader
- Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)
- Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition
- Trend Micro PC-cillin InternetSecurity, English, 2-Years Subscription
- 3 Year Limited Warranty
I hope that I like my XPS M1530 and that my surgery goes fine. -
-
I got identical specs too! Mine should arrive on 25th March. But I'm guessing it will take a little longer than they have estimated because of the Easter public holidays.
-
ahhh... its nice to finally join the exclusive owners lounge of the 1530
one newbie question though... how do i know what battery i have? I hear lots of talk on the "9 cell battery" thanks, and hello to everyone
-
Do they normally get the units out before the time they have as estimated ship date?
-

*Lights pipe*
Wot ho, chaps!
Another M1530 owner here. Delivered this very morning, after ordering a week ago. Initial impressions are very favourable, although this Vista lark is going to take some getting used to, I fear. I've already binned much of the bloatware, but am considering a scratch rebuild to begin with, so I'm starting from a clean slate. Would there be that much to gain outside of mental well being? -
I too have that setup (T9300, 3GB RAM, 200GB 7200rpm, 9 cell battery) have to wait pretty long tho, sheduled for 22 April 2008 (5 weeks)
Paying 1135 EUR (1770 USD) -
lol lardboy... I went on a video chat with my cammy and a buddy with his inspiron 1720 and 4 hrs later we were fubar!!!LOL!!laughed so hard I thought I was gonna wake mamma up!!!!!
-
mine was estimated for the march 20th, but it should arrive today.
god damn i hate DHL -
I'm sad with all the stories of people getting theirs before the estimated ship date. I have placed my order three times. Originally ordered on Mar 4th and then two days latter Dell dropped the price by $100. They told me I had to cancel and reorder, okay no big deal. Two days latter the Penryn processors hit so rinse and spit. All along the estimated ship date never has changed which was the 17th. Today is the 17th and no shipment. I got assigned a rep because of the reorders and I called them to ask if it was shipping today. She said it was "stuck" in pre-production and it would ship in 2 - 3 business days.
Bummed!
