That is just it... you can only compare by using a review for a 1330 & a 1530 as very few own both... and I see that you have done that.

I was backtracking to find this and my suggestion would be since you already have a great gaming 1730... it wouldn't make sense to get a m1530. The m1330 would be perfect for what you want it for. I've seen these at Best Buy and they are one sweet notebook. The 1530 makes sense if you want the best of the 1330 & 1730, but since you have the great gaming 1730... 1330 is the way to go. Man what a pair that would be!

Thanks for the advice, and yes I had already read your review ;)

I think you're right, Im gonna look at some M1330 deals.....
Does the 1330 stil lhave all the same ports and the card reader etc, just like the 1530? Or is anything missing because of its smaller size?

I think it does... It has been a few days since I've seen one at BEST BUY, so I'm NOT positive.

    Go order a m1330 already! :D

Maybe the warranty and stuff is different. Yet by itself without talking to the sales rep is would be like 3.3k. So overall I am satisfied with the deal I got from the salesperson.

How can you tell if my model will have the LG screen?

FINALLY! the tech came out and replaced my screen with the LG sooo pretty :) got the xk309. Love the laptop so far!!

few questions i have. how does the finger print reader work inside vista? they give a few options when i first set it up. I dont want it for security purposes. I only want it to open a few programs, show desktop, winamp, photoshop, etc etc with my fingers. Is there a way to do that without using it for security reasons?

do i want enrollment to the biometric device or to the hard drive for that?

    Grats djtoodles!

I enrolled to the device but that was a guess :)

I would also like to know what the difference is.

I do love how easy it is to just swipe to log into windows.

If you don't care about security, then either TPM chip or HDD is fine. I prefer TPM chip.

Ok, so I played with my newly arrived m1530 for about 4 hours so far. First thing I did is change the HDD to a 200Gb 7200RPM Seagate Momentus. Then I changed the RAM to 4GB and partitioned the HDD with Mediadirect (got rid of the recovery partition) and installed Vista Ultimate SP1 that I had slipstreamed with the important drivers (such as Intel Matrix and such), after that, installed the remaining drivers from my burned drivers disc, such as Nvidia Forecware 174.60 (great release so far, but I haven't tried games yet) and wireless USB.

A few design flaws on this unit in my opinion, such as having the slot for CD drive right above a USB port, or the power and hdd activity LEDs on the front edge (how stupid is that?!).

However, I'm happy to report that the Widcom bluetooth stack used is definitely good for what I need (A2DP, stereo profile) and that no pain in the butt tinkering is required with the BT stack to have it connect to stereo BT headsets or gateways.

    So far so good...

Forget Nvidia's site or original manufacturers' sites for graphic drivers. In the 1st case, they won't be accepted by the laptop because it needs an updated .inf, in the 2nd case, they're always months late.

    www.laptopvideo2go.com is your answer.

djtoodles, after you update your finger print driver and you're on the windows update page. I had to click the Check for updates link on the left side of the page about 4 or 5 times before sp1 showed up.

i really hate the damn finger print and webcam icons in the sys tray i cant find anywhere in either program to get them disabled. and i still cant figure out the best way to setup the fingerprint reader to only work for opening programs and not for any security reasons.

Get rid of that by tpying " msconfig" in the start/search box, then click on " startup" and find the program, uncheck the box.

I haven't used the fingerprint reader either. Installed the drivers and disabled it right away.

I used the webcam for about 3 minutes, recorded a 3 minute video and it was recording at 10gb/minute. None of the settings I changed worked, seemed really odd to me.

turn the resolution down and there is a setting as well about compression. should cut them down significantly. also you can save them as a wmv instead of a avi to help cut the size down.

Thanks for the tip. I changed to WMV and a 2 min 800 x 600 video came out to 9.6MB. Much better I guess but I still thought it should be less.

Does anyones system get loud with fan noise. I've noticed that my fans will kick on for about 2 minutes then shutdown again. Not doing anything labor intensive. I installed speedfan but it doesn't seem to work with the penryn processors? I installed 4.33 which supports Vista 64bit which I am running.

anyone hooked one of those bluetooth gateways to have sound from speakers of one device play to your 1530?

I was looking to buy the motorola DC800 and hook it up to my receiver and use it with the 1530 but some pages ago in this thread someone was saying that the dell drivers might not work. Curious if anyone has done this successfully for the 1530.

I installed a cpu monitoring program. It seems that the temp runs around 50c. The fan will kick on and drop it to around 40c. What should the temp run, I have the T8300? Has anyone gotten speedfan 4.33 to run on 64bit Vista?

Got my 1530 a few days ago. No issues with it whatsoever besides the slight hump in the keyboard, which doesn't bother me at all. The LG screen (DW306) is beautiful and the trackpad has not acted weird at all. There is a slight hiss with the built in audio jacks, but my x-fi expresscard takes care of that. Overall I am very pleased so far with the laptop!
