I don't really mind the heat but the "vibrating" is kinda annoying but yeah, I'll talk to Dell in the morning.. :)

Hey anyone know if removing the battery when not in use or leaving it plugged in all the time if it makes any difference on the life of the battery?

Just curious because i would like to keep my battery as long as possible without replacing it and anyway to keep it to laster longer the better :).

I notice that when I close the lid, the area by the chrome XPS on lid is warm. Not hot, but indeed warm. What is that?

Had my m1530 for about a week now, Love it so far but there are some minor issues I am having with it. For some reason when Im listening to my mp3 (using Media Player) I get this cracking sound coming from the speakers. I dont know if this is a driver issue or hardware issue. I have the latest sigmatel driver. its pretty annoying. The other issue I am having is that the hard drive is making a clicking sound. The drive I have is seagate 200gb The clicking sound also happens when the computer is idle. I am running Vista SP1. Anyone else? thanks

    Hi dazz87,

Regarding the crackling sound are you using the 5400rpm or 7200rpm HDD.

    Thanks

Hey guys, I just recently got my XPSM1530 and I just had a quick question, Im noticing that when Im playing video games even if the framerate is say between 50-60FPS, there is somewhat of a continuous stuttering going on and I'm not so sure if that's normal or what's causing it. I have the 156.69 Video Card drivers that came with Windows Update and might they be outdated? If so, how do I get the latest ones? Thanks in advance guys. And if you need my specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 @ 2.40Ghz
    3.00GB of RAM
    256 8600MGT

    hey guys question.

for those who returned their unit for another did you just go through sales and make another unit and get it shipped out. or did you go through the returns and get it sent?

The lady i spoke with said if i go through returns i can only get the replacement unit and if there is anything wrong its kinda tough sh**. but if i go through sales and anything is wrong i can replace that unit as well. however they will charge me for that new unit (plus $60 which is the price difference i would pay if i go through sales) then once i return the unit i currently have they will refund me.

I guess they cant match the deal i have they can only use current deals. so i guess my question is did you guys go through sales or did u go through returns and if returns is it true you go through returns that your stuck with that replacement unit if anything is wrong?

sounds like video drivers, or perhaps your performance settings arent set correct. check the date of your drivers vs the dell site for drivers. sometimes the drivers on win update are way outdated.

My 3dmark06 basic (unregistered) score was 4114 on a 1400X900 screen (if that makes a differece).

Thats really low compared to what everyone else was getting. I have the drivers downloaded from dell. My specs are

Vista 32bit on aero w/all visual settings
    4GB ram
    2.6GHz T7800 Core 2 Duo
    5400RPM Hard Drive

    Can anyone help me please?

The only beef I've discovered with this laptop is that it doesn't sit flat UNLESS the batter is attached. I like to prolong battery life by detaching it when I'm plugged in at home, and the damn thing wobbles. WTF Dell?!?!?

Yep, NVIDIA from Laptopvideo2go was the one I used and it improved my 3DMark score from 3905 to 4373.

I haven't ran the tests since I installed SP1. I wonder if that will improve or make the score worst?

i might be crazy but when i got the laptop the trackpad seemed to work really well. then i formatted (havent used the trackpad since format) and now im using it and it doesnt seem to work as well. did i miss a certain driver for it?

also before there was a systray icon that when i used the trackpad i could see it in the systray now its not there so im wondering if im just using some generic vista driver for it or something. i dont want the systray icon but the responsiveness was nice :)

edit: yep updated the drivers from the dell site much better :).

Just a heads up to all those considering buying a M1530 in the Asia Pacific region:

All laptops are shipping with a Samsung monitor regardless of which monitor type is selected. I wouldn't recommend buying this model until the shortage of LG displays is resolved or they discontinue the models of Samsung that display the grain and backlight issues.

Shame, because this notebook is fantastic otherwise!

Here is quick review of my M1530 I just got.

    Things I like:

    - Fit and finish is very good. Much better than M1330 I returned, that was a mess just slapped together.
    - Keyboard, Touchpad, even Vista works nicely. (Flame suit on!!!)
    - Its fast 2.2 ghz and 3 gigs of ram.
    - Battery life is solid around 2.5 to 3 hours with 6 cell battery.
    - Rock solid, no extra heat, noise or issues regardless of what I throw at it.

    Things I dont like:

    - "Touch" buttons suck. This is one of these things that look good on paper, sucks in real life idea. Try going track forward, volume up/down is painful, like trying to scan that 6 pack that won't scan at the grocery store in the self check out isle/
    - Power adapter is bigger than M1330, but M1530 has bigger power requirements. Oh well.
    - Floor noise/static on the headphones is not the best.

Overall, a very nice machine. If you are a super traveler go with M1330, hopefully they fixed things by now. For me the M1330 wouldn't sit flat on a table and CPU whine drove me nuts, I read enough to just give up and bigger screen is worth it.

I previously asked in a thread I started If it's possible to setup dual monitors, using the 2nd to watch a movie while working on the first. I've been able to do that but am having a distortion problem with the top left of the screen.

Has anyone else had this problem when using your tv as a 2nd monitor? It's very noticible. The top of the screen (waching shows from abc.com) is not straight. The top left is about an inch lower than the top right. Also theres a little scramble there. If I lower the box on my tv (although this cuts off some of the show) I dont have this problem. I dont' think this is a tv issue though since I have no such problems when usuing this tv for video games, movies, cable etc.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

You're lucky. Mine came with at least four loose and misaligned plastic parts, a non-functioning fingerprint scanner, and the craptastic Samsung screen. After getting run around for three days by their abysmal non-support hamsters, I called last night to return it and they offered an exchange which will take a couple of weeks to arrive. Lovely.

Seems like it would be a nice piece of kit if it worked and was put together properly. Dell has seriously rattled my faith in their quality and service with this debacle.

Hey, guys! New member here. I'm 18 and chose the XPS as my first laptop for college. I took advantage of the 600 dollar instant savings, so I got a laptop $2,549 for $1,950. I was really happy about that! I maxed out the insurance and protection options and all that, so I'm hoping if I get a grainy screen (I didn't upgrade the screen for no reason...) hopefully someone will come my my house to fix it and I won't have to ship it back. I'm terrified of getting a crappy screen.

These are the specs. I think it's a pretty good, but I don't know anything about computers. I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination, but I hope it will play Mass Effect well. I also hope the casing is a glossy white instead of a matte white. I've heard people say Alpine white is glossy, and I've heard them say it's matte. I asked a CSR if it was glossy since it said "Alpine White Casing with High Gloss Finish", but he said that it was matte and thee high gloss finish applies to the screen. I thought that it was weird since the screen spec. is listed separately as "15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife ".

Had my Blue M1530 for three weeks now and cannot say anything other than 'GREAT!!" :D

Updated all the drivers and just installed SP1.

Compared to my HP and TP this thing rocks!

I am putting this thru some additional paces to see what impact SP1 has on this. Items immediately noticable:

    Downs:
    IE7 load slower
    Explorer loads detail slower
Shutdown speed increased by 16 seconds

    Ups:
Graphics run better for NWN2, Fable and COD4
File copy (>1 gig - multiple small files - mp3's) is significantly quicker
Startup time improved by 5 seconds
    MSOffice 2007 loads quicker

Will add to this as I do more...

I had HP too and there is NO comparison between them!
    XPS = Sports Car
    HP = Family wagon

Don't use IE7. Use Firefox. Much faster!

question. How do you know if you have light leakage? Or do pretty much all screens have it? it seems like from about 6 ft away with the screen all black the bottom of the screen like all the way across seems to be a bit lighter then the rest. i dont notice it unless im that far away laying in my bed. I could just be paranoid but im curious if thats light leakage or if thats just normal.

    Hey all

New xps 1530 owner and forum user here

Got my xps two days ago and it's my first laptop. I've been pretty much a hardcore gamer for a long time so I always stuck with desktops, but I thought it was about time to jump on the laptop bandwagon.

I really like the xps, although I did get a samsung display. not having had a laptop before I thought the screen looked ok, but after a while my eyes hurt and I got a headache. I have the 1680 x 1050 display. I tried changing resolutions and it didn't help. I tried viewing various hd vids and images to try and gauge and I went to bestbuy yesterday to see how other displays compared. In the end I think it is the grainy samsung issue a lot of people had so I called and someone should be coming this week to replace the display... hopefully I get an lg... I'd like to keep the laptop since I do like it =P
