Hi all .. Another newb to the forum , ive always been a PC man but went for a laptop this time as ive been using them at work , i must say the M1530 works awesome and looks awesome but i do have a couple of questions .....

As i bought this from a Ebay Dell seller im a bit unsure of a few bits , they have sent me 1 Vista DVD and 1 driver cd , now does this have a recovery partition(or a way to find out) ? as there is no recovery disc etc or do i just have to format etc etc .

Also , Ive been trying to see what monitor i have (after reading this thread) and i followed the steps and it comes up with MONITOR/AUO2077 ... Has anyone got any idea who the maker is ??

Keep up the good work , it might have took me 2 days to read through this thread but its gave me a good insight into the laptop ive just fell in love with lol

Do you have it plugged into a power source b/c if you are running iton the battery it underclocks the CPU and GPU to save battery life

    Hi!

Hi I'm a first time poster and I just wanted to say this thread is really helpfull (in making people jealous about those who already have a XPS m1530)jk :) .

I want to get a m1530 myself, no doubt that i will, but I have a few Q's first.

    1. Is the Mobile-Broadband slot and functionallity always there or just when you op for a MB-Plan?
    2. Is the Vista OS in 32-Bit or 64-Bit?
    3. How satisfied are you with the sound, should I go with X-Fi?
    4. How big is the difference between the 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz? Is it worth it? Right now I think not...
    5. Does anybody what kind of changes are coming up, like LED Backlighting, New Blu-Ray Drive, etc.
    6. I know the 7200rpm HDD is faster but doesn't it consume more power and shorten batterytime signifcantly, expiriences anybody?

    Thanks

PS: This just poped up as screen option: Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1920x1200) & 2.0 for + $100. I think I'm getting it.

this is probably a dumb question but is the battery hot swapable? can i remove it and put it in while the laptop is powereD? like can i have it plugged in and take the battery out to save the lifetime of the battery then when i wanna use the battery if the laptop is on just plug it in and remove the power cord?

also who makes a good bluetooth mouse? i have a logitech mx300 mouse and i love it but its usb i would like a bluetooth mouse but it seems the few ive seen dont have that classic mouse look.

To answer your first questions....Yes and yes. You can swap the battery out no problem.

As for your mouse question, I just picked up the Microsoft Bluetooth mouse 5000. It was regular $80 but it was on sale for $40, and I couldn't be happier with it. Even comes with a little travel pouch so you can take it with you on the go. It really improves interactivity with the 1530 as our touchpads tend to suck.
    Here's a pic..

    On ANOTHER NOTE!!!!!

    Some exciting news!!

As the administartor of my forum, I am able to see a list of all users - whether members or guests - and resolve their IP address, to see where they are from etc....

At this very point in time I currently seem to have 2 people from Dell looking at my forum - one is in the index, while the other is looking through my M1730 thread - either its 2 people, or its one person with 2 windows open etc....

    Heres the proof.......

Told ya I'd get some Dell reps looking through the comments on my site.
The next step is working on them to get them to register and respond to some users etc. That'll be the hard part since it means pulling them away from the official Dell forum a little......but, I have my ways ;)

I had a long convo with my account manager about my site, this means he managed to get them in to look at least ;)

thats a nice mouse, no extra bluetooth adaptor or anything needed right? just the one built into the m1530? also is it the size of a traditional mouse or is it smaller? ive seen some tiny mice before and i just am so used to a normal mouse.

hey SmoothOperator, let me know how your battery life is on that mouse, I've been playing around with one myself but not long enough to determine battery life. I bought a logitech nano and it's great and all but after using that microsoft bluetooth mouse i kinda wish i bought that. the only thing that keeps me happy with my current mouse is that the battery life is really good so far, but then again my microsoft desktop mouse also has great battery life too... i hate buyer's remorse

I was looking between that MS mouse today and the Logitech V270. however the logitech mouse seems pretty hard to find, and its like $50 bux. that MS mouse is $28bux on amazon.

the MS bluetooth is probably better, doesn't use up a usb port, works just as well as any other wireless mouse, has 1000 dpi vs. logitech nano's 800 dpi and i bet the battery life will be just as good or maybe even better. as much as i hate to give into mircosoft's billion dollar marketing and advertising they do make a great product minus the lemons here and there which scare people

If anyone finds out what brand is the new LED screen or how good it is, please share the info. I'm getting closer to my ordering time and I can't get into the Samsung vs LG 1440x900 TFT mess as I'm gonna take it overseas, so no return possible. Thanks in advance. Please help!

Do not get the 1680 until they fix the samsung problem. It honestly isn't good enough. The 1440 is a great screen.

About to order a new M1530 from dell.ca, wanted any pointers anyone has about my build.

    --T9500 2.6GHz processor
--1920x1200 full-hd monitor (I think this one is brand new... For the 1530 anyway. I just noticed it as a choice on Tuesday)
    --4Gigs RAM
?-320 GB HDD (I considered the 200 GB HDD with the higher rev speed, any opinions on this?)
    --Blu-Ray Drive
?-Intel Next-Gen Wireless (this thread has already helped me decide on that one, before I even registered)
?-Bluetooth activated - I'm also considering the Blutooth headset. I've heard it won't work with Ericsson K790. Advise?
    --9-cell battery
?-I went with the minimum hardware service, 3 years Return To Depot, does anyone suggest I upgrade to Complete Care or extend it?

I don't want to do any major hardware swap-outs in the first year at least, just stock use. So without any personal hardware mods, what are your suggestions?

Cost is a factor, I don;t want to spend $6000 on it.

Just got a M1530 and it's been great so far. Only problem was a keyboard bulge and control panel not being seated correctly. Turned out that it was not wires underneath the keyboard.
Here is my thread if anyone is interested in the cause or has a similar issue:

To be honest, I have no logical reason to go with that processor, I just want the extra power... but if there is an issue with it I don't want to spend the extra money.

Cooling might be an issue, the x9000 has a Thermal Design Power of 44W while a T9500 has 35W.

Anyone knows what the M1530 specs are on heat dissipation?

Using the regular screen with LED will REDUCE battery power. ;)
No real advantage as mine is extremely bright without it.

The 1530 is currently available with a 1680x1050 resolution screen. I just ordered one.

Another advantage of the LED displays is the backlight bleeding is virtually second to none.

afaik, I believe Dell only offers LED screens for the 1440 x 900 screens. All the others are CCFL LCD screens.

I am sure everybody knows this but you get more screen space with higher resolution. I am personally used to 1920 x 1200 17" screens so i cannot even get used to the 1440 x 900.

Obviously it is a trade off, LED? or screen space?

I have a quick question: I just ordered an M1530 with 3 gigs of memory. (1x2048 + 1x1024) Is it possible to change the 1024 memory plate with an other 2048 memory plate from a different brand ? (And yes I know, Vista won't recognise the 4gigs anyway, but whatever :) )

i would change it, your PC will be slightly slower now. you need close to identical memory to get dual channel benefit. selling PCs with 3gb ram, in the end customer gets slower machine.

well 1440x900 is the only LED they offer at the moment. But if you remember dell didnt offer about 1280x800 in the original M1530 then in january they released the 1440x900 and 1680x1050.

Now they just released the 1440x900 LED last week, i wouldnt be surprised to see a 1680x1050 and possibly a 1900x1200 in LED either.

I dont see why they would limit the LED to only 1440x900.

    Hi,

Ordered the T8300 with 3 Gb Ram last week. Is it really an issue to have uneven Ram? As I only went up to 3Gb as I thought Vista recognised 3. Bo**ocks!

I ordered 11 April and have a due date of 8 May. Could I still ugrade it?
