Don't forget to use the tip and tweaks guide if you plan on keeping vista. It makes a big difference.

I would recommend following Les' guide, it's the sticky at the top of the dell forum. It will remove all the bloatware and then you can maximize your overall available space.

I just hate dealing with customer service in general. If they messed up something that really mattered then I would have pushed the issue more, but really its not worth my time to hagel with someone who just repeats the samething over and over again for $10 worth of plasitc and leather.

Thanks for all the help on the issue though guys.

The XPS "should" come with headphones(creative noise canceling), dvd remote that fits in your laptop and a leather binder for your system cds. Mine only came with the headphones :(

You should check your invoice. They actually mailed me one via snailmail. It should be listed. Then get on dell support chat, which is installed onto the laptop and tell them that it didn't come with the leather case and remote. I think that if you get anyone who knows what is and what isn't supposed to come with the laptop, especially if you can have them read it off your invoice they would send you what you are missing.

If you booted from and formatted with the XP CD, then you've mucked up the Media Direct partition and it'll no longer boot to that. What you need to do is partition the drive using the Media Direct CD first, and then install XP. There's a long thread (which I'm too lazy to look for) that has a step by step of this process. (It's usuallly on the first 4 or 5 pages of this forum if you just want to browse for it.)

Yeah, you'll need to start over to fix it, but you CAN get Media Direct back if you want.

In the USA, there was a "summer savings" deal that brought a lot down (free upgrade to 4GB ram, free upgrade to 8600GT, free upgrade to 9-cell battery, free upgrade to 320gb HDD).

Does WD make all the 320gb HDDs that Dell sells in the 1530?

I know the 7200rpm 250gb can be either Seagate Momentus or some sort of Samsung.

Well, here's my build. Got it with 12 month interest free financing for $1,942.39, I'm pretty happy. Just placed the order last night with a projected delivery of July 21st. Anyhow, there are only a couple of things I don't like about this notebook, the AC power cable goes in the side, I would rather it go in the back. And the exhaust goes out the back, I wished it would have gone out the side. Plus, when I started looking for a new laptop to replace my Toshiba, I was originally looking for a 14", but these are hard to find with decent specs and they do not make LED 14", as far as I can tell. Anyway, I liked the specs of the M1530 and believe I'll be happy after I get used to the power cable positioning.

ferris, you'll get used to the power cable. I had the same concern, but after month I have not only gotten used to it, I actually prefer the side positioned power cable now.

Mannnn, my new m1530 came with a pretty deep (not long, just deep) scratch on the microsatin finish of the midnight blue cover (yeah, i'm that anal). Anyone know any ways to cover it up and/or get rid of it?

Ehh, it's like half an inch long, and barely noticeable on the dark surface, so it's not worth sending back for, I'm just a stickler about those kinds of little flaws, so I thought I'd see if anyone on here has dealt with small scratches like these before.

I got mine today, and everything was fine when I booted the first time and set up windows vista. but then I shut down and booted again a little later and the monitor wont turn on. It works with an external monitor but the laptops own LCD wont turn on. I was on the phone with tech support for like an hour and they ran diagnostics etc with remote access but with no luck. They are sending someone to replace the monitor on Monday. :S

^ Yeah, i'm pretty sure. I ordered it with the 3 yr at home warranty with 24/7 tech support, that includes them being able to come to my house right? So I can have the lid replaced anytime at NO cost for the next 3 years?

I don't know if the lid is covered for three years, but I know that if Dell sent you a NEW notebook and it came scratched, they have to fix it, (new lid) either by coming out to your place or if you don't have the next day home service, you ship it back. You need to do that ASAP... else they think you scratched it.

NOTE: Not all warranties are next day home unless specified. Check your paperwork.

The warranty generally doesnt cover cosmetic defects after the 30-day return period, so if you want it replaced, you better do it soon or youll be out of luck

I can't find the program to launch the webcam. The webcam will pop up when using messenger but I can't find anything in the program files of where just the stock webcam application is so I can take pictures with the webcam. Can anyone help me out? After reformatting I'm pretty sure I downloaded the webcam driver(wouldn't video over messenger not work if I didn't).

The drivers are one thing, you'll also need to install the webcam application (if you want it). That came on a separate disc supplied with my laptop and after reinstalling vista, I had to reinstall that program manually as well.

    Good luck!

The program comes on a blue disk that says Dell Webcam Manager.

How much hard disk space did you guys have whenever you got your computer? I have a 250 gb hard drive, and 220 gb is available becuase of the recovery partition and Media Direct, but then it says that 70 gb of the 220 is full when ive only put in 20 gbs of information. This seems a bit high to me. Any thoughts?
