There was a $1199 deal on slickdeals.net about a month ago. Then I called in to Dell and got them to remove some software I would never use(lowjack/McAffee) for -$150. Then they were out of the original HD I ordered, so I went down to 5400rpm 250gb for -$50. Also went down to 2gb Ram for -$100, and bought 4gb Kingston Ram for $50.
I think I can sell the original Ram for about $20, and I already had the Vista Ultimate, so Im gonna try to sell the Vista Home that it came with.
Not a bad deal.
-
Wow that's an excellent deal I'm surprised they let you take things out and still get the same deal.
-
It took a couple of calls. The original CS rep told me it couldnt be done after 45 minutes of trying. After reading many posts from people who were successful, I tried again.
The second rep I got did it with no problems and very fast. I probably could have got it even lower, but didnt want to throw any flags to blow the deal.
Dells approach to CS is very odd to me. If you read around, you see how these CS reps will boldy repeat lie after lie, and the uninformed consumer will believe them and go on their way. Thank goodness for the internet. -
I just had my M1530 shipped today and I expect it on Monday. I have one question. I only got 2gb of ram on it because I was going to upgrade myself. I have looked and can get 4gb 800mhz ram fairly cheap. The FSB on the CPU is 800mhz. Is it better then to get the faster ram? Or should I just stick with 667mhz. I will be installing Windows Vista Ultimate. I am still not sure if I will install 32 or 64 version of it, any pros and cons on this?

I just got mine a couple of hours ago. It looks great. It's in perfect condition. Right now I'm installing Vista 64 bit
-
i got mine from the same deal, i tried to call a little later in the process to upgrade the battery but they told me it was too late, they wouldnt even give me free upgraded shipping either haha.
but yeah, mine shipped today and should be here monday, i'm highly looking forward to it
the 25% off coupon is what made the deal, i included the 4 year warranty and 4 year lojack bringing my total up to a little over 2 grand, then the coupon knocked off $500.
T8300, 4gb ram, 8600M GT, stock harddrive (i have a slew of externals ill use with it)
wxga+ LED, 6 cell battery, and the x-fi sound card
i thought it was a good deal -
I'm having a problem with Spider Solitaire. I must have saved a game. Now even though I've played the "saved" game, when I hope spider solitaire, I'm always asked if I want to play the saved game. I've tried to search for the file. I found something that I deleted. But I"m still getting the same message.
What are my options? Can I uninstall the game (since it's part of Vista)? If I do, will it automatically be re-installed? -
Look under options... uncheck "Automatically open previous game at startup"
Back on topic... DHL has my m1530... it's almost here! woot! -
I was thinking about getting a M1530 but after reading about "defective" Nvidia 8 series GPUs yesterday, I'm not sure now. Has anyone had any issues with overheating, display errors, gaming problems, etc.
Just for reference:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/02/nvidia-says-significant-quantities-of-laptop-gpus-are-defectiv/ -
I did some overclocking last night on mine. got it up to 700/900 and max gpu heat was 74. I have a 9 cell battery so that may help, but mine seems good. Im going to try to go a little further just to see what it will do.
-
That doesn't sound bad. Maybe it all depends on the cooling system and some notebooks don't do as well keeping the the greater amount of heat the card produces in check. I've been looking at ordering the M1530 and would definitely pull the trigger now if the 9600M GT was available on the 1530. I suspect that Dell is holding on to the 9 series cards for the 1530's replacement or perhaps the 9600M GT is incompatible with the 1530 in some way. We'll see if Dell makes any announcements this month about the XPS refresh/1530 replacement.

hey guys, so i tried to play NBA live 08 on my 1530 today. and for some reason its reallllly choppy. even on medium detail settings. im sure my 1530 can handle this... specs are in my sig. can anyone help me?

I just ordered mine today
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8300 2.4GHz
4 GB DDR2

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Plus many more(all the bells and whistles)
All together 2000 but the 4thsale made it 1400. I'm so excited -
-
hey guys i'm looking at these 1530's.
-after having a toshiba (which was good.)
-a dell inspiron E1505 (i hated that computer with a passion, and promised to never buy a dell again...however here i am.)
-a dv9000 which is amazing, however it's too big to bring to class in the fall.
how much has dell improved over the past year. inspiron blows. sorry if i offend any dell fanboys, but it just does. but how much better are the dell XPS 1530's compared to that inspiron E1505 i used to have?
and why has dell been so quiet about montevina? i really hope they put in a nvidia 9600m gt like HP plans to do... then the XPS will be just as tempting. -

I got my m1530 this week and I'm a bit disappointed. My LED screen has bleeding at the middle of the top and bottom. Also, the touchpad is pretty horrible, so I'm probably gonna return it to dell and wait for the new Thinkpads.
-
-
Still waiting to receive my 1530. It was shipped a week ago with next day shipping. Now they won't even show me a tracking number. DHL sure sucks and Dell has been no help at all.
-
Does anyone know what the compartment is in the left front corner of the xps? I tried opening it from the bottom, but I couldn't haha
-
-
hah I'm sorry for being annoying, but I think that may be the one that is all the way on the bottom. I am talking about the thing next to it that goes up the side. I can't explain it well lol
Here is a pic. Sorry if that really is the HDD and I'm just stupid.
-
Yes, that is where the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is located. To remove it, unscrew the four screws on the bottom, and then slide it out. that plastic piece you see there is connected to the HDD (not permanently though).
-
Thank you very much for the help
I thought it was a place where you could put one of those usb expander things haha

Hey, new to the forum. I've had my eye on a 1530 for a couple months now, but now I'm not sure I want one. If anyone has been on dell's site recently, you'll see that they removed the option for the 1920x1200 Full Hi Definition display, and now its only available on the studio 15. This is going to be a graduation gift, so the sky is the limit for the price. I was basically going to get a maxed out one with the 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, blu-ray drive and HD screen. But now I see no point in getting a blu-ray drive if the highest screen resolution I can get is 1440x900. Is dell supposed to be refreshing the 1530 soon, or are they just screwing over people interested in the xps line to promote the studio line?
-
You can still get a 1530 with the 1920x1200 screen (also includes the 4 gb of ram you wanted).
Try:

The special ends on the 8th though -
Hey, New XPS owner here.
Can someone please help me with a problem connecting to my Panasonic Digital Reciever. I don't have the Creative Xfi sound card for Laptops yet, but am going to get one. I wish to connect my laptop via optical to my Digital Reciever. I tried this using a single out from headphone to dual red a white Left/Right channel to CD output on my reciever and it worked great for a few minutes and then my reciever read "Power Overload" and shut off. I figured this was because it was an analog cord to a digital output. That setup worked very well with my older analog type reciever in my den with my Klipsch Speakers. But, whenever I connected to my Digital Reciever with 5.1/and subwoofer sound system.....it sounded crystal clear for a few minutes and then power overload..off! BTW that digital reciever works fine with 32 LCD with Optical out to reciever. Anyone know of a solution? I also understand that I will probably have to get the Sound Dock 5.1/7.1 kit to add on to the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Laptop - sound card. Would greatly appreciate any help here! Wish the XPS 1530 HDMI worked for just connecting to my reciever! Am I missing something, and it actually does? -
Also, the touchpad is pretty horrible,
I've tried searching for comments about this, but couldn't find them. So....
I'm a mouse person. But a broken mouse sent me to the touchpad. When I was using it, some right click I did brought up an excel sheet. Then all the IE tabs froze. I was able to open a new IE. But I have no idea what happened. There are times when I left click on the pad and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks -
