No, sorry, it's impossible to get a 1920x1200 LED screen... in fact I don't think they use LED backlit for that resolution at all. 1440x900 is the only resolution that comes with optional LED backlit.

Never mind I just checked the Dell site mine doesn't have the LED backlit but I will trade that in because my screen is Full HD 1920x1200 not the Lower HD screen. I so can't wait for it to get here. My friend tried to convince me to buy the ASUS M50sa-x1 because it had the T9300 but it has the ATI Radeon 3650 which the 8600mgt outperforms it big time not to mention CPU benchmarks on his laptop only show a 3-10% increase in CPU performance with double the L2 cache. Not enough to sway me from XPS! Plus who doesn't want to say. Dude I'm gettin a Dell!

Ya I know what you mean. Mine built cost $1998 dollars with tax. The fourth of July sale through Dell took $599 off of it. How could I pass it up.

Looks good, I paid $1499 for mine which was an incredible deal considering we don't get those awesome coupons in Canada.

Ya the only thing I plan to do way later after my Frosh year in college probably is Add a 250GB 7200 RPM HDD and a blu ray disk drive. Maybe just maybe upgrade the processor to a T9500 cuz its a better deal and definitely 64 bit windows

Yea the 7200rpm hdd should be quite a bit faster than the 5400rpm one. I didn't know of any resellers that were selling slot loading blu-ray disc drives. I suggest to go with the t9300 instead of the t9500 though, the speed difference is basically not noticable but it's 100's of $'s cheaper.

Okay, so I just took advantage of the fourth of July special and ordered my xps 1530.

the only thing I am having second thoughts about now is the full HD screen versus the LED screen...(i like the idea of more screen real estate, but a lot of people seem to think 1920x1200 is too small). also, does anyone know what brand these screens are LG vs. Samsung and if that matters?

i upgraded to the faster HD and then convinced the rep to upgrade me from the 250 gig to the 320 gig as well. what do you think?

i'm pretty excited about this machine and interested to hear how others who just placed orders like theirs.

Some people think that the 1920x1200 is to big. It really depends on the person I guess. I love my LED screen, but wish it was an LED 1680x1050.

The manufacturer for the LED screen is Cei Mei. I am not sure who makes the 1920x1200.

Samsung makes my 1920x1200. Some Samsung panels are the best on the market (like the panels featured in their highend LCD TV lineup), but other Samsungs seem to be hit or miss.

The 1920x1200 LCD on mine is pretty good and text is very readable for the most part, although on some sites I'll increase the size of the text (Ctlr+). The nice thing about 1920x1200 is the desktop space you have, it gives you a whole lot of room to work with. You can basically open up four windows at once and have them all on the screen.

That's a very good price. If you upgrade your audio to the SoundBlaster software, you'll be able to use the suite of settings to get slightly better sound, but your speakers will be the same. Bottom line: the speakers in the XPS aren't the greatest...Personally, I'll use external speakers or headphones the whole time but that's just me.

Pulled the trigger on a M1530 Monday night. After reading everyone's raving reviews here, and a July 4th sale, really don't have an excuse to pass this up!! I took advantage of a recent HP deal and got a dv6700t for close to $1000, but it only cost me $170 more to upgrade to a much more powerful laptop... I never thought I would buy a Dell but here I am!! So excited.

    HP dv6700t configuration:
    - HP Pavilion dv6700t Entertainment CTO NB
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40GHz)
    - 15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    - 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS - For Core 2 Duo Processors
    - HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Microphone + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam
    - Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth(TM)
    - FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive from 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive!!
    - LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - One 6 Cell and One 12 Cell Lithium Ion Batteries
    - Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    - HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    Cost: $917.99
Tax (8.9% in WA... geez): $81.70
    Total: $999.69

    Now the XPS M1530:

    Tuxedo Black
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
    High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900) & 2.0 M
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Size: 250GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
    Finger Print Reader XPS M1530
    McAfee SecurityCenter 15-months
    No Microsoft Office
    Adobe Photoshop + Premiere Elements
3Yr In-Home Service, Parts Labor, 24x7 Phone Support
Add Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection to 3Yr Warr.
Included 3 GB DataSafe Online Backup for 1Yr
    No ISP requested
    Also Includes
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)

    Cost: $1324
    DPA 4% off: -$52.96
    EPP 16% off: -203.37 =D
    Subtotal: $1067.67
    Shipping: Free!
    Tax: $95.02
    Total: $1162.69

I was tempted to add the 4th year warranty, but I may call Dell tomorrow and see if I can still add it. But like I said, this is a killer deal!! Just the LED screen or the 8600GT alone is well worth it!! Not to mention the accidental coverage. I had it on my IBM T40 and it was invaluable.

Has anyone had experience with the accidental coverage? Is it a hassle to file a claim? I doubt they cover the battery, do they?

Holy crap, that IS a killer deal. Congrats! As far as I know, you can extend your warranty as long as your current warranty is still running... so I think you have 3 years to add the 4th year warranty.

Well, I called Dell in the afternoon to try and get them to drop some software but was unable to do so after multiple tries with different representatives. So I decided called them up on the higher education hotline to order a new M1530 just to see what it would cost me to get the same specs vs ordering online last night. Turns out that I could save a little over $100 if I ordered with this nice lady on the phone so I canceled my online order and then called her back to make sure I got the good deal. Funny though as she said to upgrade the 250gb 5400rpm hdd to 250gb 7200rpm was only 50 bux more, only to later tell me that she made a mistake and said it was 200 more instead. Right. No thanks.

Although Loc13 got a much better deal than me with the same specs I was happy to save more! :D All I did was upgrade my sound to Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy for $25 more. The representative said Midnight Blue would take longer to ship(Aug 4th) unless I just stayed with Tuxedo Black(around July 24th), but I didn't care because I really really wanted the blue color. I've heard that people receive their stuff well before Dell's given estimate anyway so I hope I am lucky as well.

    Subtotal: $1,241.08
    Shipping and Handling: $0.00
    Environmental Disposal Fee: $8.00
    Sales Tax: $83.05
    Total: $1,332.13

I need to get some sleep now its 2AM here in California.

I'm going to be joining the "club" of m1530 owners in a few weeks. I ordered my m1530 two days ago. There's a 16 days delay for the 9-cell battery and then there's Dell's "conservative" ship date :p. The Order Status currently says "Estimated Ship Date: on or before 22/08/2008", but I know it's going to ship before that (I previously ordered Dell laptop for both my dad and my girlfriend).

    Dell XPS m1530 (Tuxedo Black)
    • Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHz
    • 4GB DDR2 SDRAM
    • 320GB 7200RPM
    • 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    • 1440x900 15.4 inch LCD & 2MP Camera
    • Sound Blaster Audigy HD
    • Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
    • 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    • Windows Vista Home Premium
    • MS Office Home & Student
    • 3 Year Return to Depot Service and Technical Support

I can't wait for it to ship. What's going to make the wait harder is that the mouse and carrying bag already shipped and will be here by Friday* .

*EDIT: Nevermind, the mouse (Logitech V220) and carrying bag (new Belkin Energy line) are going to be delivered this morning, hahaha...

Hello people, New member here with a few questions :)

    1. The SSD instead of HDD. I was wondering if anyone have purchased one and have experience they want to share. I will use my laptop basicly for gaming and browsing and some poker online. Is this disk good in gaming? Or is it bad? Also, how many years will this disk last compared to regular HDD? Very tempting to buy one because of fast booting and other applications (so i have read).

    2. Noise! I want myself a laptop that is very smooth and quiet when browsing the internet. Not one with a fan that goes on and off all the time, or one that is on full almost every second. So, how would you rate the M1530? From a scale 1-9, where 9 is the best. Is it a quiet laptop? I have heard that the HDD makes some noise, will the SSD benefit me better?

    3. And at last, customising your own computer. When ordering, is it possible to demand or atleast ask and get hardware from the companies you want? Like, the screen..LG is the best. Can you demand only a screen from LG or is it random, pure luck? Ive asked customer support about the SSD because there are huge variations on how the different drives perform and they said it was a few different types the used. I know Samsung is very good, and i think its unfair that they give people different SSDs that perform different than the other when you pay just as much money as all the other customer for the drive. Maybe they only use good SSDs?

Anyhow, i REALLY appreciate all the time you take to answer me these questions. Thank you very much :)
Im SO close to purchasing me the M1530

2,) if you are extremely concerned about noise, I would not recommend the m1530. The fan is on a lot of the time, and the HDD is ridiculous. It clicks and scratches every time it accesses something. SSD would be better noise-wise, but the fan would still be there.

I gave Dell a call this morning, they said the only way to add the 4th year warranty and accidental coverage for $80 more is to cancel the existing order and place a new order... I'm like wtf? It's only been less than 2 days!!

Is it possible to get instantly approved for DPA Credit limit of more then $2,000?

Where does the 4% get taken off for the DPA?

    Thanks for all your help!

Well I think it depends on how good your credit score is. I was instantly approved for credit limit more than $2000. The 4% is taken off from your subtotal before tax.

Depends on your credit. DPA was my first credit card when I turned 18. They gave me $1500 then. Watch out for the interest rates...they can be pretty high.

Well, I just got my XPS M1530 after the next business day shipping took 8 days and guess what? It worked for about 36 hours and now each time I boot I get a message that says, "Disk read error. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot". It's a Toshiba 5400RPM 320GB drive.

Does this mean I have a bad disk? Could it be a heat issue that will be fixed by letting it cool down? Really annoying. So far, the M1530 has been nothing but headaches....

May be disk. You can get tech assistance online at their website (usually faster) or call this XPS phone# 1(800) 232-8544. Good Luck!

I got mine on 7/2/08 and everything on it seems fine. The only problem I have ran into is how hot the thing gets. It idles around 60 degree C, and if I do anything it jumps up to 70 degrees C. I haven't checked the temp after playing any games yet. In fact I am a little scared to.

Thank you. I called the number and after some testing it was determined that I have a bad drive. Since DHL is so awful here (it took 8 days to receive my overnight package) they are sending a tech out with a new drive to install it. Hopefully that will be faster. I would have rather installed it myself. It's sad they only use DHL. ALL other carriers can deliver overnight where I live but those clowns.

Hopefully I'll actually get to start using my notebook soon. Thanks again for the help.

I already ordered the Linksys WRT54GL. I read about flashing it and getting Tomato or DDwrt or something like that for better performance.
