I hope that, too - frightened to hell with all the information about dead MBs, bad screens, NV cards problems etc etc (yes, I do know that the forum is not a good tool to evaluate reliability of a product since usualy people come here when they have problems, and more seldomly when they are OK).

I just found out that my less than a week old M1530 has either a missing or dead motherboard battery, or the motherboard is shot.

Ok. Decided to go down and get 2Gb instead of 3Gb (-$50) and Tuxedo Black (-$25) instead of Midnight Blue (although I love that blue color!). Will make final decision over the weekend.

Out of curiosity how hot does everyone 8600M GTs get? Mine hit 70C just idle and that seems high to me. My T8300 idles around 42C.

For some reason I'm never tired of posting this link.... Much better deal than what you have... You pay 1299
for a better system with 3 years warranty plus accidental damage. You can pay $80 more to get the 4th year, and still receive $70 gift card.
    Credit goes to paper_wastage

please note the 25% coupon you have doesn't work with this deal. Or else it would be the best deal ever...

    Hi peeps,

Well I think I can post in this topic although I am not sure my order went through :(

Bought a 1530 on the UK Dell Outlet yesterday afternoon after much hassle only to not receive an email confirmation as of this morning.

So far not really impressed with the whole Dell experience to be honest - however I know the 1530 is a nice laptop - I want a Dell 1st however if they keep screwing me around and my order didnt go through I may have to go elsewhere.

All I want is an email and a laptop :( lol

    Jim.

I believe many people took advantage of this deal without any problem. I used my corporate discount to get an even better deal, but it doesn't ask you for any proof or coupon code in order to make the purchase.

I'm about to order mine I think. Should I get 2 GB, 3 GB, or 4 GB or RAM? I'm just going to use this laptop for word processing, web browsing and playing games like Team Fortress 2 and Half Life 2. Also, which processor should I get?

You may save some money and get 2 Gb, and then upgrade to 4 Gb (which you can buy at Newegg).

    hi all.
i've been waiting a couple months for a new laptop, saving up monies and researching like crazy. i think i've settled on a m1530 but i have a couple of questions.

    1. how does dell deal with apo warranty issues? do they send it to you, or would i have to have it sent to my home and then sent to me? and also is return shipping paid for?
    2. with the new platform on the way, dell has been near silent. i take this to mean that there might not be anything in the works as far as xps for a while. is montevina worth waiting for as far as the battery savings and performance?
    3. when i order is the money taken out that day or do they take the money out when the system is built?

thanks for any reply, and i look forward to owning a 1530 soon because that 25% off is looking too good to pass up

Hey jinndtonic, how did you pay $1,230 for that laptop? Did it have a warranty or anything?

To kind of answer your question, my friend has an M1530 and he got a case and a remote with it...

I think it depends on where you live. In the US and Canada, or as I like to call them --Northeren United States-- every post I read stated they got the manual case, cloth, remote, ear buds and laptop case.

However, those across the pond received only two of the five. I think cloth and laptop case.

    1. I don't really get your question, and don't know what apo warranty is. however, with the XPS you get XPS premium support, which means tecgnicians come on site (to your home or wherever) so no return shipping needed. I have contacted support twice and the service is very good (that is here in New Zealand).
    2. No clue
    3. Taken out right away. As far as I know this is one of the longest standing issues with Dell, because they sit on the money earning interest of it, whilst you have not received anything yet. On the other hand, whenever you buy on the internet, I guess you pay upfront. Otherwise the risk for the seller would be high. Only way around this is to buy in an actual shop or buy as a company, on credit.

On temperature: my T9300 3Gb 8600M 1440x900 reaches 80 degrees easily whilst gaming (COD4, SWG). Seems a bit hotter that most, so I plan to use Rivatuner.

So, I ordered my XPS m1530 as part of the XPS deal days thing or something on June 22. I have been waiting these past few weeks for today, July 14, when my order would finally be shipped. However, I received an email today that brought some bad news my way. Dell said that "we are experiencing an unexpected delay and have adjusted the estimated ship date" to July 21st. What gives? I've somewhat had it with Dell seeing as how much crap I went through with my e1505...but this was just too good of a deal to pass up. I know it's just an extra week, but has anyone else had this problem?

    Here are the specs:

    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
15.4 inch Full Hi Definition Wide Screen WUXGA TrueLife LCDwith Camera
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium Edition, English
    Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion P Primary Battery
Dell Wirless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)

Received my XPS M1530 today. Ordered on July 7th, shipped on July 12th, received July 14th... I couldn't be happier with DHL!!! It's like next-day shipping...

Compared to the dv6700t I'm returning tomorrow, I love the XPS way more. The LED screen is truly amazing, and very bright. I've yet to check for dead pixel, but so far so good. Have not loaded up any game yet, but I'm planning to install TF2 very soon to see how this performs. For $1163, I have no complaints!! Another plus is that there really isn't that many bloatware preinstalled, so no clean install is necessary for me.

Well, Dell screwed up yet again. They were supposed to send a tech out to install my hard drive, not because I couldn't do it, but because DHL is so incompetent when it comes to delivering in my area. First, it took over a month to receive my new notebook. Next, it took DHL 8 days to ship it to me (with one day shipping). Then my hard drive died two days after I got it. That was last Wednesday. I was supposed to receive a new hard drive by Thursday and have it installed by a tech. Well the hard drive arrive on my doorstep on Monday. No biggie. I installed it myself in a couple of seconds and then after the one hour install was back up and running again. Still it really makes you wonder about Dell and if they can get anything right. So far, my experience with my XPS notebook has been nothing but problems.

It's now been about 7 weeks since I originally ordered and I finally have a working notebook (with a refurb drive). I'm just hoping nothing else goes wrong...

    I ordered a 1530 too the 3 July. :

    CORE 2 DUO T9300 2.50GHz,800,6M
Display 15.4" WXGA+ Widescreen (1440x900) TFT with Truelife
Promo: 4 for 3 Year Consumer XPS Premium Hardware Support
CCFL backcover blue & 2.0mp camera
    Memory Dual Channel 4.0GB (2x2048) 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM 1 S
    Hard Drive 320GB SATA (5400rpm) 1 S
8xDVD+/-RW Slim Slot-Load Drive, including SW
    Battery XPS Primary 9-cell 85WHr Li-Ion 1 S
Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT

I ordered it with a 6-cell battery but 15 minutes later i saw that the 9 cells was at the same price, so i immediately sent a mail to the vendor to ask for the 9-cells. He answered me OK :). 3 days later my order was ready and waiting for the transporter. Unfortunately, as i asked for a 9-cells which are not in stock, i'm waiting for 10 days for this battery...
Anyway, i got 350€ rebate with differents promotions or coupons (for a total of 1400€, not so bad :) ). So still waiting... :)

When I went to order mine, I got the price listed in Hong Kong Dollars for some strange reason. Time was running out on the deal (I had minutes left, seriously), so I had to quickly make another configuration. By the time I did that and got it ordered, I went back and found out that I neglected to select the free upgrade to the 9-cell battery. I spent the next day trying to get through customer service just to be told that they were not allowed to change anything and that I would have to create a new configuration. Well, that wasn't possible because it ended the night before. Tell me, why would you have a place where you can request to "Change Order" if they won't actually do it for you?

I just went ahead with it the way it was because I figured that even if I had to end up buying a replacement battery later on, it would be less than the cost of building my similar-spec'd lapotp at regular price. However, I still haven't received my laptop yet, so I can cancel it and order again if people can tell me how they got these incredible deals? Just a thought.

Just try calling back in again. It really seems like luck of the draw on getting your order changed.

I don't know that I want to do that now because it's been so long that the Dell people wouldn't know what deal I was supposed to have had. Plus, I don't want it to be delayed too much more because I need to have it for at least a short period of time so that I can adjust it to the way I like it before I go off to school. I have spoken with 3 people and received an email from a person who all said that it wasn't possible for me to change my order, so I pretty much gave up.

It's scheduled to arrive on July 23rd; I go to school on August 9th. There's not much to configure or change, I know, but I have a way of screwing things over pretty quickly and need time to fix them.

Mine seems to finally be working now too after the hard drive replacement. I'm currently downloading patches/updates at Dell's site for everything thing.

hey, my 1530 is set to arrive early next week.

what are people's thoughts on what to do to a new machine to get it in top working order? i've heard a little bit about 32 bit vs. 64 bit vista. is it worth reinstalling? should i immediately go to the dell site to see if there are any updated patches/drivers or might switching drivers cause me some unnecessary headaches?

have these questions already been answered somewhere else in the forum?\

    thanks.
